My friends and I wanted to eat some home cooked Italian- instead of making it, we walked over to Comella's DELISH all the way- I had the chicken parm with Alfredo sauce...highly recommend it! The sauce is not overpowering at all and you really enjoyed all the embedded spices. I got the garlic bread- which was ok in a way...but went well with the dish. Def huge portions, so we did salads as well...which are nice! One complaint, please get BIGGER WATER CUPS/GLASSES as we were served in like miniature water cups which was annoying. My boyfriend lives close to West Roxbury so when we get hungry we tend to jump in the car and head this direction. There are numerous restaurants on both sides of the street. One place we keep going back to is Comella's! We first had the chicken parm and meatball subs.. both tasty and not greasy! Next time we tried a "mess", and again very appetizing. Then we discovered the cheese pizza deal (this is their normal every day price). $5 for a 16 inch cheese pizza, and again, not overly greasy like a lot of pizza shops! It's the perfect amount of cheese and sauce.. and delicious sauce not to forget! I usually am not a big crust fan but Comella's has got me, it's perfectly crunchy and not too doughy! read more

Comella's pizza, pasta, salad, and calzones are delicious. Three times out of four we get served by someone who is really nice. It's a great place to dine in with small noisy kids, if you just want to eat out. On weekend nights, order your pizza early or you might have to wait longer than you'd expect. Order here multiple times, usually very good but tonight around 7:30 I ordered a gluten free (allergy) pizza with Alfredo, chicken, spinach and another regular hawaiian pizza. I looked at the gluten free one..and always the spinach is cooked in it but it looked this time the cooks got lazy and threw it on top like they forgot and the other pizza should have been a regular but was also made gluten free. Called back and they said they would kindly re do the order. Come to pick it up a second time after repeating my order again, both made gluten free when I only asked for one to be..one ended up eating her order and other threw it away..again..you lost one customer. read more

Love Comellas! Their food is SO much better than pricier italian places...it's their sauce. It tastes so rich and fresh. I am working my way through each of the "messes"...all delish. Chicken parm is amazing and their salads are good too. I always order takeout when I have get togethers and people are always psyched for Comella's. If you get the chicken broccoli and ziti, make sure you request extra sauce. Can't wait to try the pizza! This place has really good cheap pizza. By that I mean you can get a $5 large cheese pizza that has a good amount of flavor, affordable, and not greasy. The other things on the menu like the buffalo chicken pizza and chicken broccoli are good but personally i think those are overpriced. The other thing I ordered one day was a chicken parm sandwich and it was average at best. Overall, the value for the $5 large cheese pizza is undeniable and you can easily go to Roche Bros next door and get things to add to it at home. read more

Large cheese pizzas used to be $5 but went up.. $6 is still a steal. Their pizzas aren't the best I've had but are solid and worth the price. I don't like that they charge you an addition $5 to add eggplant (not even a meat or expensive) to your pizza. It doubles the price. I called Friday 2/20 to order some subs & 2 pizzas at 5:00 & the girl told me "we can't have your pizzas ready until 6:15." Without any explanation! I just ordered an eggplant parm & chicken parm sub which were both soggy messes & NOT toasted. Why wouldn't they toast them? No oven room? I'll stick with their basic cheese pizza when I don't have to wait over an hour. In no hurry back though. read more

This place had great Italian food in the West Roxbury area! The pizza is reasonably priced and is super good too, They give large servings of everything such as fries and pasta. The chicken broccoli alfredo is extremely good. If you go I do not recommend to get the wings since they are very overpriced. Another side that you shouldn't get is the garlic bread, it has a funny taste. They have a wide variety of pasta dishes, and other dishes. This is my go to Italian restaurant in the area! read more

Just ordered pizza from Comella's in West Rox. I called ahead and was told the order would take 30 minutes. It was actually ready 15 minutes later than promised and included one pizza with burnt crust and one missing a topping. Its frustrating to learn that you waited while they allowed your pizza to get overcooked. The topping issue was quickly addressed (I'll give them that), but the lack of an apology for (or even an acknowledgement of) the waiting and the lack of a topping on one pizza and the burnt crust on another were disappointing. read more

Recently ordered 8 pizzas for my son and friends,picked up on schedule, not one of the pizzas was even Luke warm-they where dry and appeared to have been sitting there for a while. Went to speak to a manager the following day and was told they would have her call me on the following Monday as she was off, never received that call. Very Disappointed with the lack of attention to detail. I placed a order for 8 pizzas 3 days in advance 2 cheese the rest all different types of meats & sauces, the bill was almost 90dollars which I had to pay the day I placed the order. The day of my party, I sent my father to get the pizzas as I was dealing with 13 small children. The pizzas arrive & they are cold as ice & all plain cheese! Now what am I suppose to feed the adults at the party? Awesome, I call comella's & the girl tells me to wait on hold so I can speak to a manager. She comes back it still her online, guess the manager was to busy or didn't care to apologize. They tell me they gave us the wrong order & I can come pick up the right ones, um no. The party was in Norwood & by the time I returned my guest would be starved & I'm sure the pizzas would be blocks of ice. Girl at the counter your job is simple, answer the phones & hand people the correct order. They issued a refund on my card for the order, but it's not about the money! It's the principle, how do you blindly hand someone 8 boxes of pizza! It's not the clients responsibility to check it's yours! This review is based solely on take out cheese pizzas from Comella's. The cheese pizzas are fabulous and for only $5 for a large, you can't go wrong! The sauce tastes very fresh, they put on just the right amount of cheese and the crust is perfect. The pizzas are never greasy so you don't get that sick-to-your-stomach feeling after eating a few slices. If you're "eating like their family," then their mom/dad isn't a very good cook. Their mysterious "mess" dish is nothing more than a basic baked ziti with random other ingredients thrown in (like bits of other kinds of pasta). Not even close to as good as what I can do at home with store-bought sauce and pasta. My guess is that it's made from the leftovers of all their other dishes. Also had a sandwich there - white airy bun, really anemic lettuce, poor quality bacon. The avocado was actually good, but that was its only redeeming quality. Meh. This is a go-to place for the family when we need weeknight takeout. Pizza is a standout value at $5 for a large cheese. The pasta is good as well, kids really like the fusilli pasta with chicken or eggplant parmesan. I have been to Comellas a few times. I usually just get a pizza and its always consistent. I have had a couple of pasta dishes from there as well. I usually get the alfredo pasta which is pretty good not too much garlic. From reading some of the reviews it seems that the service can be hit or miss I have never had a problem and I have been there for both eat in and take out. read more

I wanted to like Comellas - prices are great and I know quite a few people who rave about it. However, I've had three mediocre-to-poor experiences here and will not be coming again. The first time, I requested a dish without cheese and it came with ricotta (it was delicious, but I'm allergic to dairy and couldn't eat it). The second time, the mushrooms in my pasta seemed to be out of a can. And the third time, I ordered a pizza with one topping on one half and two toppings on the other half - I was charged full price for three toppings and the toppings were few and far between. Nothing beats the single Mess order on a night when you don't want to cook. I've tried a number of different types of the Mess and never been disappointed. I honestly would've never walked in if my cousin didn't tell me about it. He's a frequent visitor of either the Chestnut Hill or West Newton one and told us about the $5 large Cheese and the Messes. Our first experience...we got the Paisan Mess, Large Cheese Pizza, and a half loaf of Garlic Bread. When I first walked in...the atmosphere reminded me of Bertuccis, but a lot more homey. I was not there for long, but the staff seemed nice. The Mess was delicious! Yes...it did "look like an accident" but it "tastes great!"(like the menu says). The pizza was good. Not great, but for $5. How can you beat that. We likeed the garlic bread too...however, I enjoy an initial crunch on the crusty part of my garlic breads with a soft interior. The flavor was fantastic, but the bread was a bit soggy by the time I got home. None the less it was a great first experience...I hope they are consistent because I will be a frequent visitor. read more

So much better than anything I've ever ordered in the North End. I love "the mess" because you don't even have to choose one dish - you can get a bunch all mixed together in delicious tomato sauce! The only downsides are 1) it's a counter-service place so it's not like elegant dining or anything and 2) it's hard for me to find anyone who ever wants to go there with me because they think it's unhealthy. But I think that amazingly delicious Italian food is worth a little extra sodium in your diet once in a while. ;) read more
