Come Back Shack lives up to its name. After one visit, you will come back. They have a solid menu with burgers that you can get in various forms and an array of toppings plus Nathan's Hot Dogs. I had a burger with Mushrooms and it was delicious but be warned, the fries topped with chili and cheddar cheese will lay you out. You can fill out an order sheet or order at the counter. The sheet helps you see all your options without tying up the line. I ordered a single and sweet potato fries. A generous portion of each brought to you in a timely manner in a brown paper bag. Very tasty and enjoyable at a reasonable price. A friendly, young, outgoing staff that seems to have a good time. Such a treat for my kids (and me!). Great burgers - even a local burger option! Delicious fries, sweet potato chips, and milkshakes. The food is great but be warned that this spot is a little cramped for space. The staff sometimes seems a little overwhelmed and this week I was told they can only enter 5 menu items at a time into their order system. (I swear I'm only ordering for my own family!) A tip ... I recommend you write your entire order neatly on a sheet of paper and hand it over to the attendant for the quickest ordering experience. You do have the choice to fill out an individual form per person once you get there but, if you're ordering for a group, I don't recommend that approach. Burgers can all be ordered as a lettuce wrap so this is also a great option if you are looking for gluten-free dining around Boone. Enjoy! read more

My husband and I are in Boone visiting with some family. We stopped by here on a recommendation of a friend who went to App State. It was the best recommendation! Not sure what all the fuss is about. Had dinner here the first time, it was a busy Saturday night and the line was out the door. Ordered the local burger and fries...burger was fine but so thin, it was overdone. The bun was soggy. The fries were also soggy and tasted like the oil needed to be changed. The "come back sauce" is just ketchup and mayo mixed together. Happily the selection of local beers is great. Tried again tonight, after calling and getting a recorded message that they do not take call ahead orders we drove there, only to find no parking... so we went through the drive through. The entree chicken salad actually looked like it would have been tasty, but we had to eat it dry because no dressing was included in our order (after we ordered extra ranch because we'd heard the ranch was good). We were pretty sad campers choking down dry spinach in our hotel room but we were starving and there was no way we were driving all the way back to get dressing :( For the same price point in Boone hit up Cook Out or Five Guys for juicy burgers and crisp fries. read more

You have two choices on how to order: walk up to the counter or fill out a menu sheet. We chose to go straight to the counter because it was quicker then filling out the sheet.
