Not a lot of seating and prepare to wait a long time because everything is steamed to order. The XLBs have a lot of soup but not too much flavor to it. They are also tinier than other places. The dip wasn't vinegary enough for me - might be diluted. The pan fried shangjianbaos were super crispy but again on the small side. The spring rolls were great! Super juicy filling. They may have limited per day because it was 12:30pm on a Saturday and apparently we got the last order of spring rolls. The big wontons weren't really wontons. They were more like jiaoji dumplings. The soup was mediocre. However the soup for the mini wontons was much better with the seaweed in it.

Came in for lunch on a Saturday and there was a wait for around 20min. Most of the tables just eat and go. The staff are pretty nice and friendly. During the wait, we checked out the menu online so that we can order right when we sat down. They provide a pencil and ordering sheet For 2 people, we got the Tofu puff soup, pan fried buns and steamed soup dumplings They had a variety of fillings for the steamed soup dumplings, pan fried buns such as pork, shrimp with pork and crab with pork. The crab and pork pan fried buns (4 PCs) were tasty but the crab doesn't really add any flavor or texture other than some crab shells I found inside. The best part was the bun, crispy bottom! The pork soup dumplings were also not bad, but small. The tofu puff soup was good to tie us over but nothing special. It was a small menu that matched the small seating area. I don't recommend coming here with a large group. There's no music of any sort, so we can hear the staff working and talking to each other Not bad, will come back to try their pan fried dumplings

Been wanting to try Colour See See Shanghainese Cuisine for their xiao long baos. It's close to Sulmida Dessert Cafe. We dropped in on a quiet Friday evening (around 7:15pm). Only a couple of tables were occupied. Our waitress came by a few times to refill our tea cups. Menu is short and sweet with 25 items; XLB's, panfried dumplings, panfried buns (aka. sheng jian bao), appetizers/soups and desserts. You can also purchase frozen dumplings/XLB's for home. - Bean curd vermicelli soup ($6.25) - small portion and bland. - Rice sui-mai ($6.75 for 4) - never seen a sui mai stuffed with rice before. Nicely done. - Spring rolls ($7.95 for 4) - these weren't good. Hard pass. - Pork XLB ($7.95 for 6) - solid xiao long baos. Nice thin wrapper, soup was tasty, and good amount of filling. Best dish of the night. - Crab & pork XLB ($10.95 for 6) - couldn't taste too much crab filling but still enjoyable. Although, I'd stick with the other options. - Shrimp & pork panfried buns ($8.55 for 4) - good crispy bottom, juicy filling. Another winner. Cash only for bills $30.00 or less, otherwise they accept cards. Stick with the XLB's and sheng jian baos at CSS. 3.5 stars.

Colour See See 上海本色 has authentic Shanghai food in Greater Vancouver. This place is a family operation.  They have a limited menu, but they prepare everything freshly handmade.  With their open-concept kitchen, you can see for yourself. Our favourites are:Sheng Jian Bao (Pan-Fried Shrimp Bun, 生煎包)  - The wrapper has a lovely soft texture with a golden, crispy base.  The filling is very flavoursome and moist. Everything was so delicious. Shanghai Siu Mai (Siu Mai with Sticky Rice, 糯米燒賣) - Each steamed Siu Mai looks like a pomegranate and has a wide opening at the top.  The texture and flavour delight your taste buds.  Super delicious! We will come back for more.  Colour See See is located right across from Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.  If you are looking for a traditional Shanghai-style restaurant, you should BOOKMARK this place.   Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: ‍‍‍‍4/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Price: $30-$50 for three (dinner) Presentation: 1/5 Parking: Paid street parking Tips: * have English and Chinese on their regular menu but only have Chinese on their signature dishes listed on the wall and the ordering sheet. * don't take reservations.  The store can be busy, and the services can be prolonged at peak hours. * can order frozen dim-sum to take home. Would I Return: Yes ‍

This small Shanghainese dim sum restaurant was right on the opposite side of Metrotown on Kingsway in Burnaby. They take reservation. I called to reserve a table for two. When we got there at 6pm, the restaurant was less busy but it tarted to get more and more later. The servers and owner there were super friendly and introduced us what was good. Menus are in both English and Chinese but we had to mark our selection on an individual menu sheet in Chinese. We ordered XLB, pan fried dumplings and buns with pork and small wontons in soup. All of them were very good especially and XLB and pan fried buns with pork. They were super juicy and the bottom part of pan fried buns with pork was super crispy!! The best was that the chef fried the buns perfectly! The buns were not burnt and didn't become black! The restaurant also sells raw dumplings, XLB and others that customers can cook at home by themselves. There is paid street parking on Kingsway. I actually parked at Metrotown and shopped a bit and then walked to the restaurant, so I did not have to worry about finding and paying for street parking.

We came here based on the great reviews. My bestie whom I call Dumpling Queen LOVED the xiaolongbao!!! She already had her favourite xiaolongbao before she came here but that all changed. I don't eat xiaolongbao a lot but I admit it was THE best I've ever had. We ordered the following & the ratings are based as 5 being the best: Steamed Soup Buns - +5 - flavourful meat & tender to the bite with tasty broth Shrimp Steamed Buns - 4/5 - so tasty that I forgot to take a picture Pan Fried Dumplings - 4/5 - ordered the wrong item but still tasty Rice Sui-mai - +5 - both our favourites - could of eaten a basket each - a must order item. You won't be disappointed. We had to wait for the food but it was worth it. There's even signage advising that 'if you are in a rush, we kindly suggest that you visit us another time'. Note: this place is more of a snack place as there isn't a huge selection of items on the menu. They're located across the street from Metrotown Mall. It's a small place that got busy. Service was prompt & friendly. The server gave us an idea of the different items to order as the photos don't justify what their dumplings taste like. Ambiance was okay. There's metered parking out front until 8 pm. Best to park at Metrotown for free and walk. We'll be back to try the other dishes. Definitely a rare diamond in the rough! Authentic food that's reasonably priced & tasty!!!

A great place to go to when you are craving for some authentic Shanghai dumplings. We arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was full, but we got a table pretty quickly without any reservations. Upon seating there is a menu where one side is Chinese and the other is English and there are slips of paper that you can fill in your order. We ordered the Set Meal (with mini wontons and pork pan fried buns), pumpkin mochi cakes, pork/shrimp filiing dumplings and pork/crab filling xiao long bao. If you enjoy more filings I would recommend going for the regular wonton order inserted or mini wontons in the set menu. The other dumplings were quite filled with dumplings and had nice flavours! The xiao long bao has a nice thin skin and the pan fried bun was so crispy in the outside and fluffy and meaty in the inside - those were my two favorite dishes! They also sell frozen dumplings if you like to bring some home to cook up yourself too.

O.M.G, this is one of the best "dim sum" place I have been for the longest time. This is definitely a hidden gem. Let's dig right in! Service: no service but the owners and chef are super friendly. This is not your ordinary restaurant where you get a waiter. The chef and the owner are waiters and they will try to chat with you. Food: 5/5 it reminds me of my childhood. Honestly legit. PLEASE be careful the food is HOT(the liquid will burn ur mouth/tongue)! Everything is made from scratch so it may take longer to have your order ready so please be patient. Crab & pork fillings (xiao long bao) 4/5: I didn't really taste the crab but overall was amazing. I usually go to Richmond (R&H Chinese food) for the xiao long bao but this place is way better. It is unlike other xiao long bao places where you feel greasy and thirty after you taste them. Shrimp & pork friend dumpling (Guo Tie) 5/5: amazing and you can really taste the shrimp texture. Sometimes other shops will have shrimp paste and ground pork grind together in dumplings and you don't know what you taste. This place makes it that you can taste the shrimp and pork and all the natural ingredients flavor. Amazing! Crayfish & pork fried bun (Sheng Jian bao): 5/5 never tried crayfish & pork fried bun but flavor was amazing. A little pricy but recommend to try it if you never experience it before. It has a little kick on every bite which was mind blowing. Pork fried bun 5/5: It is like donut but instead of sweet it is salty and savory. Each bite is crunchy and you just want more. Shrimp wonton soup 6/5: like wow. Looks simple but so delicious. It blends well will all the dishes together. You not only get to enjoy how they make your food , but you also know there are always new and exciting food adventures waiting for you in each dishes. We will definitely come back for more.

I ordered Set A which included pan-fried pork dumplings and curry beef vermicelli soup. We also shared steamed pork buns (XLB's). I was impressed with the dumplings, both steamed buns and pan-fried pork filling. Very flavourful, although they're smaller in size than other Shanghainese restaurants. Can't complain for the price though, it's around $5-7 for 4-6 pieces. The soup wasn't very flavourful, and I had to add chili oil to step it up. Next time I'll try the 10-piece mini wonton soup. The kitchen is open/glass so you can see them making dumplings by hand.

Hole in the wall cozy Shanghai dumplings and xiao long bao. Got to try this place, it's right across from Metropolis Metrotown. Reasonable price and filling flavour is on point. Not greasy or overly rich so great for kids. The size of the buns is smaller than other places but warmness of the atmosphere fills you in.

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

Take a small bite of the skin first and sip the soup inside before diving in. The soup is very hot, so I usually pour it onto a spoon and drink it from there. #13 is translated as "Steamed Mini Pork Buns" in English and Shanghai Xiaolongbao in Chinese on the menu, which is misleading. When I ordered it last time, it turned out to be the same buns as #14, just steamed instead of deep-fried. They're large and not mini at all like traditional XLB. Personally, I didn't enjoy them as much as the fried version and wouldn't order them again.
