We had to order online (currently), No big deal. Easy-to-use platform Customer service was friendly the guy who spoke to me had a courteous demeanor. It's such a tiny place actually, almost missed it bc it's on the faaaaarrr left corner of the building.. though we didn't get to go inside i could tell it looks cute n simple. I Would come back for ANOTHER tradish croissant and to try the coffee/tea. The trad croissant was perfectly flaky, crispy and butter. Stop settling for the grocery store kind! Treat yourself to one or more of Colossus's! -Didn't get to try much by 12/1pm they sold out of most bread n pastries. -Give it one good try. I'm sure you'd like at least one thing. I have always loved their baked stuff but do not like the fact that they are not following up on the refund after they agreed to give me a refund. I could not pick up my order at the scheduled time due to a plumbing emergency at home on Oct 31. They left me a message a little past noon saying they would close at 3 pm and they would hold my purchase tell 3 pm. I called them back at 2:40 to tell them I was on my way, but they said they're sorry they had already closed for the day and that they would issue a refund for my order ($58). I called a week later and the manager said she would process the refund the following day. I waited a couple weeks but could not confirm the refund so I called back on 11/21/21 and was told the manager would be notified and would respond. It's already 11/28 and I still haven't gotten any response. read more

This place is a tiny storefront next to a chorizo/mexican restaurant and neighborhood market/liquor store. There is no place to sit, just grab-n-go. With current restrictions, one person in the storefront at a time, because this place is so small! We shared a kouign amann, an almond croissant and a puff pastry with cardamom and sugar crystals. Kougin amann was buttery, sweet and crusty, kind of a like if a croissant was baked into a hockey puck, with some sugar. Not bad, not mind blowing. Almond croissant was better, lots of fluffy layers, not a ton of almond filing but very deep flavors in crust and dough. The cardamom/sugar "muffin" was interesting: unusual flavors, deeply baked. Service was friendly and fast, and all of these pastries were enjoyable, but I found nothing specifically crave-worthy. read more

Today was a day of pleasant finds. My boyfriend and I stopped at the Chori-Man, and while we waited for our order, we went into the Colossus bakery. It's a small place, but they have a nice selection of fresh bread and coffee. The young lady at the register explained what was available, and she gave us a lesson on how to keep our fresh loaves fresh for longer and how to freeze them. We picked out a few items and some coffee. It was all delicious. It's not often you run into such great service. Do stop by and patronize this business. It's a gem. read more

Love this little spot! It's tucked away in a neighborhood in San Pedro. The cafe is super small so it's definitely made for takeout. By the time we got there (12p) there was a line of people inside & baked goods were low. Since everything is baked fresh its first come first served, so once they're out of something they're out! I went initially for the kougin amann which I've had from my friend who referred this place to me, but they sold out! It is absolutely delectable. The flakey, buttery, sweet, layers. The candied/caramelized bits are my favorite. So we got the baklava pinwheel, olive+cumin loaf, hojicha, mocha, & matcha latte. All of which were yummy. Full bodied & flavor. Ate the loaf later that evening with olive oil/balsamic vinegar & a bottle of Chianti. Highly recommend! read more

The coffee is needless to say, delish, love their pastries too..definitely unique flavors that compliment the coffee v well. I also appreciate the safety measures that are in place. This is a great stop for pastries and coffee. The selection always includes some surprising and delightful flavors along with classic favorites (croissant, pain au chocolat, kouign amann) though I do wish they would do more savory pastries - would love to see what they come up with! We have been going to Colossus since we moved to San Pedro over 2 years ago. It's an extra perk they're just a short walk from my residence. With the service and quality of food declining we have been going less and less. I keep hoping they will go back to their chipper and happy employees and fantastic quality of food. Unfortunately, today was another feeling of "who cares if you come here" and my scone is burnt and should not have been sold. The past decline has also included a 1" by 3" piece of birthday cake for $7.00. It looked like it was giveaway celebration piece of cake it was so small. A few soggy and smashed egg sandwiches. A tiny omelette (looked like one egg was used) with a couple of pieces of lettuce for $15. I don't mind paying high prices for food if the quality and service is there. Being a past small business owner, I'm very disheartened leaving this review. :( read more

Colossus Bakery is SOOOOO good. My husband and I are addicted to their OG chocolate chip cookies. We literally get them every week at the Torrance Farmers market and are so bummed they're not there any more. We even drove down to their San Pedro location last weekend because we were going through withdrawals haha. I ran into an old co-worker of mine who told me to get the pumpkin bread and OMG it was the most moist pumpkin bread I've ever had. It tasted like it had frosting on it with no frosting. Got the rosemary maple latte, chocolate olive oil cake loaf. Both were great and my friends had raving reviews about the bread and brownie they purchased as well. Rosemary maple latte - standard latte with light sweetness of maple syrup and hint of Rosemary. Not overpowering/overbearing. Chocolate olive oil cafe loaf - RIP. One of the best chocolate cakes I've tried. The chocolate flavor is perfect, not too rich, just the right amount. The texture of the cake was soft and moist and dense. This item definitely blew me away. Highly recommend stopping by and giving this place a try. I guess if you live nearby and don't want to travel too far for a bakery this is what you're stuck with, but if you have an option there are so many other bakeries in the surrounding area that have better pastries and service. This bakery is amazing. Tiny, hole in the wall vibe and unpretentious; get ready for the real deal. Recent stay-at-home orders from COVID have us binge-watching "Great British Baking Show" and Colossus does laminated dough completely right. Talk about hitting the spot. Flaky, crisp ham and gruyere croissants and the citrus danish have become a recent favorite. The filling on the citrus danish is punchy, tangy and delicious. Colossus also has hands down, the best chocolate croissant I have ever had. Go early or else be ready to take whatever is left on the shelves. It's been another great way for us to experiment with the lesser known but equally delicious pastries. My only wish is that they were open 7 days a week but my waistband probably wouldn't survive it. I thought i was watching in the open workbench in the 1st to 11th of Paris near the River Seine or Petit France in Strasbourg and Pains Westermann just nearby. Or Jacques Torres or Norman Love pastry and Nancy Silvertons La Brea Bakery 10 years ago. This isnt your average anyplace. If youve had it in the places above, this is pretty world class. My wife just wanted a chocolate croissant or Pain au Chocolat, but she was taking her time coming inside. So i patienly let others go in front of me and watched the process, smelled the doughs proofing and being formed, looked at the simple presentation in the case. 10 breads, 10 pastries on display. Bingo. From simple to complex the 6 or so items i bought just were on the spot. After we ate or shared everything, there was one more mountain to climb, the Sour Dough Country round. Probably would beat most San Francisco Sour dough that exists today, including very popular smaller named places in parts of California. Days of old SF Sour dough were coming back to me. Laraburu, Bordenaves and more. Heavy and light at the same time. Crust perfect with a hit of 30 secs in a toaster oven with bread upright not to toast the inside. Wow.
