I went on a sourdough quest in San Francisco a few months back and I think I found the absolute best sourdough in that city. And Colossus's version, the Country Levain, is right up there! Great crust and chew and flavor is awesome. We got a medium Country Levain and a medium Levain with Cumin and Olives....that cumin and olives....wow, so freaking good and unique. Loaves were about $10-$14 and service was great and super friendly. We didn't try anything else but the sweet treats and coffees looked good. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The Country Loaf is their basic bread, very moist, great for anything, even eating it plain. Here lies the first Pecan Sticky Bun that I can call exceptional since Joanne Chang's from Flour in Boston. Then there's a Vegan Pumpkin Chocolate Cookie and a classic chocolate chip, both amazing. Good bread, great bakes - you can tell they're made by a pastry chef because they're so polished and refined. Great bakes, please try!

While that location has long since closed, the "newer" location 3 blocks north still delivers. The pizza is flat out phenomenal, the croissants are sweet, soft and utterly delectable and the proprietors are just as sweet as I remember. If I had to nitpick - I'd note that the cups here are a tad undersized - so the large tea bags take up a substantial portion of the cup (which in turn, throws off the balance/composition of the tea, etc.). If you call to place an order after 8 PM (which I do from time to time), they'll very rarely answer the phone. This, of course, gets in the way of being able to pop in and out for a quick pre-ordered drink. The folks at Hojas should do a better job of staying on top of phone calls - that's Customer Service 101! A little fine-tuning would go a long way here - fixing the cup size issue + upping the consistency with phones would be a big plus. :) PRO TIP: Parking on 6th Street can be a little unforgiving - so try to be courteous with not hogging the spaces in front for too long (there aren't many!)
