PARKING IS TERRIBLE here. Street parking is packed: in front and the surrounding streets. Luckily I had someone with me and I was able to jump out to grab a few things. Cute modern place with outdoor and indoor seating. I ordered online and it was an easy process to grab my food to go. I ordered the bacon lettuce tomato sandwich and added a fried egg. It was costly at $19.50, but it was delicious. The sandwich was stacked and the bread. YUM. Fluffy on the inside and toasted and crunchy on the edges. I got the hojicha latte which was ok. Usually, I really enjoy their iced vanilla lattes and their Midsommar Latte. However, the past five times I've ordered either of the two, it has been disappointing every time. The ratio is off and it's just not as good as it could be. I'm a fan of their Passion Fruit Matcha Tonic. It's not a drink I would normally order but I'm glad I did because it's delicious! I've ordered it at least twice and it's been consistently good. Their pizza is YUM. The Rosa was really good and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Smashed Fingerling Potatoes: these were just ok. So happy we got to try this place out for a matcha and croissant! Parking is easy-ish to find around the building depending on the time you go. We have had their brownie and that is fantastic, would absolutely go back for that. Matcha was a 4/10. It was pretty much just milk, but there was no grainy-ness so that was nice. Giving them - 4 Stars because it's not a great location to work from as they don't have readily available outlet plugs by the seating areas which I found to be weird in a cafe in such a prime location. I had to charge my laptop away from my table by the entrance near the line of people and merch bookcase. I'm a matcha snob and am very picky when it comes to matcha. I wish it was slightly more ceremonial tasting. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something is missing with the taste of the matcha. I'm not sure if it's the type of milk they use (I've tried several different milk options they have and no luck). I really wanted to love the matcha here because there isn't a solid place in San Pedro that serves great matcha. I'll go here in a pinch when I want to experience their ambiance and want a quick matcha fix, but not my first pick. Staff I wish their staff was a bit more personable for this type of niche local coffee/bakery shop. In a smaller town, this goes a long way. It just felt very impersonal as a local. But love the generally ambiance/view - who can beat being in front of the waterfront? Location 5 stars for location because as I mentioned they have great views and outdoor patio seating. Parking 3 stars, this is hit or miss. You may end up circling around a few times until you find a spot. Bring quarters or your card with you as everything around is metered parking. I believe their main location is in Long Beach, I'd be curious to try the matcha at that location to see if the quality is different. I'm bummed cause I came for the avocado toast, hoping for some egg/brunch like dish and was hopeful at 430 pm and that menu is offered up until 4pm! So I opted for a pizza, with a white sauce (ricotta option only) basil and garlic. It was ok, a bit thick for my taste... pepperoni was added on accident, I decided to just keep it bcs I was meeting a family so thought they may enjoy that. The Caesar salad was ok, something spicy in it, and I love cheese just not crazy about the choice of cheese for this salad. Whenever people ask me what's in San Pedro, I always say there's nothing exciting. Well, Colossus is one of the exceptions. We don't have very many great places to brag about here, but this place is one of them! The first one was on Alma and 24th st and they close pretty early. There's another location and Long Beach, but they close around 5 or 5. This place is open til 8! I've been to this location a few times and although it's small, it's bright and inviting. I can't remember all the things I've had but the recent ones was a the lavender honey latte. That was pretty good. I usually get a milk alternative like oat milk. The OG cookie is one of my favorites you should definitely try it. 5 stars The financier is pretty good too! 5 stars Also the vegan double chocolate cookie is like 5 stars. I love this cafe for the design and feel of the place. Its holds such an amazing ambience close to the harbor and the pastries are delicious. The owners are really friendly as well, and when they first opened they gave complimentary potatoes which no doubt the food is incredible nothing should be changed. My only "complaint" is that the matcha they use is really not the greatest quality :( and the coffee is quite bitter as well. My husband has had this place bookmarked for a couple of months, and we were excited to give it a try. We were in the area for an errand and stopped by before we headed home. Our experience was underwhelming with a hint of strangeness. We ordered one of each of the following items: a pecan sticky bun, a cinnamon sugar knot, a traditional croissant, a kouigan amann, and a pan con tomato, with two drip coffees. The cost was at least $48 without tip. We smelled the fresh garlic from the pan con tomato, yet it was still bland. The caramel on the sticky bun was tough. The sugar knot and croissant were just OK. The kouigan amann was the best of all the food items if I had to choose. Lastly, the coffee was OK. Theres both indoor and outdoor dining areas. It was a cold morning so we opted for inside. Now for the strange part. We reached the counter and started placing our order. The person was entering them into the POS system. In the middle of my husband ordering, the person taking our order starts conversing with the two baristas behind him, as if my husband wasn't in the middle of ordering. It was strange and rude. After placing our order, he grabs a box and asks us again which pastries we ordered. It could be an off day. I don't know, it wasn't a pleasant experience. We'll pass on this location, but might try the OG location on Alma St. and maybe have a better experience. read more

Stopped in for lunch and ordered the Chicken Caesar sandwich, which comes on their delicious bread, toasted well. The chicken was a lemon pepper recipe with Dijon mustard and olive oil and topped with iceberg lettuce. Not that it wasn't delicious, because it was, but it was just the small sandwich without any sides for $16 ($20 w/ tax and a $2 tip). That is about $6-7 dollars more than I would expect to pay for an item of this type without a drink or sides to accompany it. Even a handful of potato chips would have made it seem more valuable. I know this is probably a high-rent, preferred location, but this would definitely price me out eventually. Loved the ambiance. The fresh flowers on each table were a nice touch, soft indietronic music playing in the background. All that was great. Took a Sunday stroll down to Colossus's harbor location. It was a beautiful day and there was lots of people sitting outside and they're open area, enjoying their coffee and breakfast. Walked in and was immediately greeted. I asked for a recommendation from the barista and she gave me two options and I settled on the Midsomer latte. When I picked up my latte, the barista waited for me to try it because she felt that it maybe too sweet, but I tested it and it was perfect. Not too sweet at all. I appreciated her waiting to see if I liked my latte when she was unsure of it. That's really great customer service. Inside had a good group of people sitting there eating their breakfast talking. It's actually a very great location because it's on a corner so you have windows so you can see out to the harbor to the street that day was the day of the downtown Christmas parade, so there was a lot going on. I would have given this place five stars, but I was a little upset because I had waited for the restroom and when I finally went in, there was no toilet paper. Which happens. The thing that bothered me was that it was an employee who walked out of the restroom and didn't say "hey hold on, There's no toilet paper. Let me get some before you go in." Eh, it's good for a small breakfast so if you're a hearty eater, this would be too small. If you're a light eater, this is the place for you. Pricey, but ok Summary: if you come here expecting to be assaulted by the smell of baked goods, you won't get it here. Go to the other locations for that. Colossus is one of those bougie cafes that has pricey pastries, but honestly, they're worth it due to the quality and taste. Each bread in the display case is between $5-$8, and there are impressive-looking features, interesting combos, and healthy options. I had fun chomping on a decent amount of the baked goods; most were delicious. My favorites were the Strawberry Scone with Passionfruit Glaze, Cacao and Sea Salt Brownie, and the OG Cookie. The scone surprised me the most - it was dense yet not dry, with a fruity sweetness that wasn't overwhelming. The brownie was fudgy and perfectly salted. I would like to try some savory items next time, and hopefully a Strawberry Cookie with Matcha Glaze since the OG Cookie was very satisfying. The Dark Chocolate Cream Pie ($18 for the regular/small size) was good, but I wouldn't get it again. The dark chocolate cream filling had a rich, ganache-like flavor. The crust was crumbly, as expected, but mostly stayed intact. I didn't love that there was a reminiscent taste of cheesecake since it made the chocolate cream pie too tangy for me. Staff were chill and ready to help answer questions. Inside was clean, modern, and airy, with huge window walls that let you peer into the harbor. I have been to both the San Pedro and the Long Beach locations and both are consistent as far as food and service; with the San Pedro location having more of a dine-in atmosphere. Prices are on the higher end, but the quality is there, without a doubt; fresh and well executed. I recommend any of their egg dishes and the French loaves. Colossus means something huge in presence, power, size, or importance. This begs the question what is colossus about Colossus? And the answer to that, at least for me, is there bread promise fulfilled. Sure, bread can be sliced, standard, and useful. I mean try to play poker and try to eat meat--- having the meat in between bread helps you succeed in the task, as in one hand you can hold your cards, and in the other you can hold your meat in between bread. But this place carried the utility of bread into expressive domain because it showcased the wondrous ways that bread can be. Much like a person, bread can be dressed for a sweet occasion, be anointed with (olive) oil, be dunked in liquid, be bitten with gusto, be topped with fruit (like Carmen Miranda's hat) and in general be a reason why your morning is made complete, and today that happened to me. Although not pictured, I bought the honey lavender Latte. Its description is on the pictured coffee menu. I tried it, particularly because the menu describes their honey lavender syrup as homemade, which is appropriate for a bakery that makes their bread in house. I wonder how one mixes honey and lavender? For a moment, I imagined bees making honey in combs, and other bees bringing lavender petals from their outside garden, while others fly in an intense circle to mix the two principle ingredients in a simmer pot. I mean, I did not take a tour of their kitchen, the Wiilly Wonka-esque scene can be true, until I am proven wrong. What I do know for fact is that my honey lavender iced coffee was prepared by a person named Violet, which is an ironic twist that I welcome, like my morning buns being made by a man whose last name is muffin. The coffee was great, from first sip, it was a reminder as to why my favorite color is purple. It was refreshing, sweet, but not cloying. It is a perfect complement to a sweet morning treat that hits differently. Black coffee cuts the sweetness of syrup with welcomed intention, like a traffic cop interrupting the flow of traffic for other cars to flow! But here the sweetness of the coffee is like having cop cars escort you to the hospital when you are about to have a baby: the private escort elevates the moment of urgency, not to an inconvenience, but to welcome support. I also ordered the soft scrambled egg toast. I was attracted to the dish because it had creme fraiche. I have seen enough Gordon Ramsey shows to know that properly cooked eggs are simple but require creme fraiche. During this visit, I also learned the correct spelling of "creime fraiche." Spelling the words in french elevates its importance because it sounds more fancy than spelling or saying fresh cream. The actual egg dish on top of bread was great! It was deceptively simple--- eggs on top of bread. But the bread was thick yet light. The chives elevated the dish with color and snap taste! I got the dish to go go, and once I saw the carts with breads and bacon frying, I decided to stop my dad and eat in-house. I was provided fork and knife to eat my bread, but I ate it with my hands with gusto. I also took home a sea salt cookie for a nephew and a baguette. I tasted the baguette and its edges were over crisped and my nephew's cookie was spoiled by giving it to a child, as he has not yet develop his taste buds for discerning consumption. But if you eat to enjoy and not care to decipher than the cookie is a great home run! To the help the reader I have included the pictures of the coffee menu, and the food menu to help make informed choices. I am also happy to see that this place has found a home and following in San Pedro because I have always felt that San Pedro was a place that did not house the best restaurants for foodies and their gourmand cousins. Worth a visit! The interior design of the place is well-thought of and modern. High ceilings and immaculately white inside. Though the place is on the small side, there is ample seating indoors and outdoors. They have a small section dedicated to craft foods and souvenirs. Which makes the place seem darn well crafted and hipster. I ordered the Calabrian chillies with honey and sausage pizza and Olives with orange. The pizza was artisanal and tasty. Although the middle of the pizza was a bit soggy with the toppings being cheese and honey heavy. I just dealt with it and thought the pizza was still delicioso. Some of the pizzas the other tables got had some burnt tops, but ours didn't have a burnt top, so we got lucky. One of the few kinks they have to work out of their system. I also got a fancy Italian orange soda that was crisp and refreshing. The place is an offshoot of the Colossus bakery on Alma St. with the same name Colossus. The one vegan option is always a banger but when it's sold out and there's no second vegan option it's such a bummer. Also please bring back the MLT. We would be able to go eat there so much more often if there was more than one thing I could eat. Maybe a vegan pizza option? My husband always wants to go there for breakfast/lunch but sometimes I want more than just a cookie or an avocado toast. I had their iced Midsommar latte which had homemade anise caramel topped with fennel and bee pollen. This is a unique blend and something I've never had. It was sweet with peppery notes. I actually like this drink and enjoy every taste. My wife had their iced vanilla latte which was regular tasting but still delicious. Have been a fan of their business on Alma and super happy that they opened up close by my place! They have pastries, pizza, sandwiches, bread, and some little speciality gifts. Pastries: overall very good but hit or miss sometimes. I've had very good pastries, whereas once I had a super burned sticky bun (the burnt side was placed upside down in the display case) and I wouldn't recommend the lemon poppy cookie. Pizza: tasty and quality ingredients. Only complaint is that toward the middle it gets super soggy. BLT: again good quality ingredients and tasty. It's just very large (slices of bread) and very greasy as I think they butter both sides of the bread. For me it irked my sensory issues lollll but it was good. Caesar salad: tasted fine but a bit warm and soggy. Would prob not get again. Coffee is always good here. It is on the expensive side aka 17 bucks for a sandwich... ~25/30 for a pizza. Was in the area due to our cruise stopping for the day. After touring the USS Iowa, we were hungry and had been tipped to this spot by one of the cruise port staff. I ordered the smoked salmon tartine, which was on lovely bread and had a nice overall flavor. A little messy to eat. My wife had a tomato sandwich with the bread toasted a little too aggressively so the crust was hard to bite off. But tasted good, she said. Also got four cookies to take on board with us. Once again, Tik Tok told me about this place. Ahhh-mazing! I am low key Obsessed. I can't stop thinking about the pumpkin latte. It's unbelievable. 10 out of 10! Not too sweet. It's absolutely Perfect! No notes. I went there in the hopes of getting the pumpkin cinnamon bun, but unfortunately, they were sold out. Not surprised. Everything there is delicious! I ordered the latte along with the "French Style Omelet". Did I die and go to egg heaven? Yes. Yes I did. The eggs were cooked to perfection. The sourdough toast was toasted and not too much butter. The salad was dressed with just the right amount of dressing. I am not a huge fan of breakfast, but I am now. Service was fantastic. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I purchased a pumpkin muffin and and pecan sticky bun to bring home to my pumpkin obsessed son. He devoured both immediately. I got the chocolate chip cookie for myself and it was scarfed down in the car on my way home. Very clean and nice place to chill indoors or outside.
