Been a long, LONG time since I was actually in store. As a young high school toodlum, we visited at lunch almost daily. In those days, they were across from the tennis courts at Daniel's Field. Pizza slices were a quarter and absolutely delicious. While that location has long since closed, the "newer" location 3 blocks north still delivers. The pizza is flat out phenomenal, the croissants are sweet, soft and utterly delectable and the proprietors are just as sweet as I remember. Omg when I tell you the quality of these baked goods are out of this world. I can not believe I have never been here before. The best item here is the cheese pizza (will go back to try the pepperoni) got a brownie and chocolate chip cookie. The cookie! omfg I wish I did not gobble the whole thing in one sitting. What a Gem! I was looking for an authentic Italian Bakery for rolls and found Joe's on Yelp. I traveled to.San Pedro as it is a hrrat place for Italian food and Bakeries. OMG so glad I found this place! Rosa (one of the owners).greeted me as I walked in. Very friendly and helpful. She's the real deal from Italy,.and has been working there for 48 years! Her husband started the bakery a few years before that. Truly a Mom and Poo family owned and run business. I stopped in just before closing and happy to know they still had what I came for, 4 dozen rolls! They were freshly baked too! There were still a few goodies in their cage and I picked up some Italian Cookies (with lemon glaze). Outstanding and very large! Prices were very reasonable especially for the quality. Note - cash or check only! Bring cash! Check the hours out as they open early and close at 2pm. The store is tucked in a residential area with lots of street parking. There's a 15 min spot right out in front. Very small store front with one bakery case but looks like a larger bakery in the back. My 1st time stopping there after so many trips to Daniel's Field for football and soccer. A hidden treasure in San Pedro and worth a trip off the main streets! Various types of baked goods - my son said the lemon bars seemed to have real lemon zest and flavor. Brownies await and look great. I came for the pizza and am sure it will not disappoint. Went to JB on Saturday around 07:00. Got a slice of cheese pizza ($3.00) and some croissants ($1.25 each). I liked the pizza. Nice mild sauce. The cheese was gooey. The crust was more of a thin type with good texture. The croissant is not the French style. It's more like a tasty dinner roll with a croissant shape. The inside was nice and airy. There's also a slight sweet glaze on the top. It tasted really good after 15 seconds in the microwave. I also wanted to try their chocolate chip cookies. However, they just sold out and the next batch would not be ready until 09:00. The service was super friendly. JB is located in the middle of a residential street. Finally got a chance to stop by around 10am on a weekday after the rains cleared up on this current trip. Friendly owners, greeted warmly and had a nice conversation with her and a customer when i walked in. When I arrived most of the pastries were sold out but luckily there was more cheese pizzas in the back. Grabbed a couple slices of the cheese pizzas and 2 lemon bars.... At L-O-N-G, long last!!! As a die-hard Pedran at heart born at the Ft. MacArthur hospital and lived in two different apartments with my folks before moving into 1116 W. 13th St. (NW 13th & Leland, Nov 1959-Feb 1962), I was regularly treated to a cookie from this venerable Italian bakery's original location (next to Daniels Field) on Mom's regular walks with my younger sister and me to different places in the vicinity. With an institution that fabulous (the name was too far above my line of sight; otherwise i would've remembered since I was a self-taught reader from age 18 months), one can only imagine my disappontment when I'd "come home" from nearby Cypress as a teen/young adult and be unable to find it. It wasn't until late 2024 that someone on one of the several Pedro-focused Facebook groups brought up Joseph's and a couple of respondents said that they'd been going there since it was at its original spot (albeit unidentified). Reading that aroused my suspicion that Joseph's was the missing link from my Pedro-of-yore palate, so I finally stopped by two days ago (4 Dec 2025). To my delight, Joseph's wife (who HAS to be in her early-to-mid 90s yet easily passes for late '70s/early '80s, so spry and sharp she is), confirmed I wasn't losing my mind for 60+ years (I'm now 66) and oroceeded to hand me the besr, moistest dark chocolate brownie from scratch I've had next to my own! She rang it up on none other than an old-faahioned, golden-gilded register with black and white numbers!!! read more

Everything is fresh and is so delicious! Owners are amazing people too! I usually have a list, but sometimes treats are sold out. I have to try something new, and am never disappointed with the substitute, which ends up on the next list. However, if you have to choose one or two treats, try the sweet rolls with the cream, which are an indulgent dessert, and the lemon cookies are an all-time favorite at all family gatherings. Once again, the family that runs this institution are the best kind of bakers, who truly know their craft, and proudly display their genius everyday. Not sure where the 1 stars are coming from but theyre a total surprise. I have been eating Josephs pizza since I was a child, and let me tell you, you can't find better morning pizza (or pizza in general) that beats Josephs Pizza. It is a very unique place (mom and pop shop) that has been around for years and offer very delicious pastries and of course what theyre best known for -- pizza. Never have I been disappointed while picking up food here. Not to mention, the family who owns this mom and pop shop are nothing short of respectful, kinda and always greet you with a smile and good energy. Yes, they tend to run out of items by 9am at times, but that is understandable considering they make only a certain amount of pastries -- basically first come first served. A lot of times theyre pizza is sold but theyre always cooking new batches, so there may be a short 10-15min wait for a new batch. You simply tell them what you want and they put it to the side for you. The croissants (regular, sugar, or white icing covered) are delicious along with theyre cookies of all sorts. Ordered a couple of their pizzas for a work potluck and had two coworkers battling rock-paper-scissors for the last slice. I honestly should've just taken it bc I lowkey wanted the last slice. The pizza in my opinion is a combination of both NY and Detroit style pizza. It comes in a rectangle rather than a circle and the dough is not too fluffy. You only get two options: cheese or pepperoni which makes decision-making a lot easier. This bakery also offers other baked goods that I am looking forward to try the next time I come here. First of all, the people who work here are SO NICE. I think maybe they're the owners? Both the older lady and the man are always so kind and genuine. I love people who deeply care about their customers and the quality of the products they sell. Second of all, it is the most inexpensive bakery I've been to in the South Bay. You can get a PB cookie for $1 and most of the baked goods are less than $3 including their BOMB lemon bar which I tried for the first time today. Their brownies are the best bakery brownies I've had, super chewy and fudgy and remind me of the types of brownies I ate growing up. Thirdly, my husband, who is a pizza fanatic from New Jersey, loves their pizza. Even though I'm not that into pizza I also agree that their pizza slices are super comforting. I love this place. When I think about what I love about my home town of San Pedro, I think of small, mom and pop places like this and smile.
