Good food, fun place, great location.

Went there during the summer. Waited 5 minutes and watched multiple people notice us before being greeted. We had bad service and when the food finally came out, I couldn't believe my eyes. I ordered shepard's pie and it had TOMATO SAUCE all over it. I asked to see a menu and it did not say anywhere there was tomato sauce on there shepards pie. I don't know what they are thinking putting tomato sauce on mashed potatoes but it is an experiment that has failed miserably. I sent my food back for the first time in my life because it was so bad. I got chicken tenders instead and couldn't finish a single tender because they disgusting and the meat was brown. I also saw Tom the owner being drunk and racist at the bar which solidified the feeling of never wanting to return. read more

As a local, I've eaten here several times over the years. Food has been mediocre, standard Sysco fare. Atmosphere is worthwhile, housed in an old train station with outside dining and entertainment certain times of the year. They also do a nice job decorating for the holidays. read more

The outdoor seating is nice, The service is slow. The food is mediocre at best. There was a barking dog at the next table, I will never go back. read more

Pricey, god awful service.. the beer selection and being right next to the train tracks are the only thing this place has going for it.

The food here is very inconsistent. Some dishes are very good and some are below average. The Onion Soup was excellent. The onion flavor was wonderful, there was plenty of melted cheese and it did not taste too salty. The Steak Frites was very good. A nice tender juicy cut of beef that was filled with flavor. However the Chicken Marsala was below average. The chicken and mushroom were served over rigatoni. The Marsala Sauce was not good. The Mushrooms were horrible. They were actually very chewy. I was told they use wild mushrooms for this dish. Nice concept but the finished product was not good. I thought the chicken was also a bit overcooked. The atmosphere here is very nice. I was concerned about the service when I first entered because it took quite a while for us to be seated. Those concerns were not warranted as our server did a very good job at our table. read more

This used to be a great local restaurant. But unfortunately, as usually happens, an out- of- towner has taken over the daily operations, and not for the better! :-( The prices have all jumped higher and the new manager, Craig, has removed some of the most popular and best dishes from the menu. He has also cancelled the daily winter specials, which featured a different dish Monday- Thursday. There used to be a good crowd in there after work for dinner and happy hour, not any more most nights. But I think the manager is oblivious to this fact. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone anymore! On the flip side, the staff, Tim, Andrea, Papi, ect. are fantastic! read more

My partner and I visited the lovely town of Cold Spring yesterday for the first time. The town was great! Decided to have dinner here. Yes, it was July 4. Waited about 15 minutes to be seated outside while there were plenty of tables open. Sat down and ordered 1 glass of wine and one diet coke which we received and then gave our order which was one salad to share first and two burgers. And then we sat. And sat. Enjoyed the glass of wine and one soda. Since it was very warm we would have liked to enjoy two more sodas but our server never returned. Two folks were seated near us and I watched as they received bread, drinks, and shrimp. And we sat. After about 30 minutes I flagged down the host and asked him nicely that I understood this was July 4th but if he could see where our server was. He said he would and I watched as he went right back to seating guests. I watched as he seated a party of 10. I watched them all receive drinks and bread. I again asked the host once again, who, I'm very sorry, but was running around like a chicken without a head. He went right back to seating people and never took a second to locate our server. Then I watched the couple that was seated right after us get their main meal. And we sat. And sat. For the 3rd time, and now at 50 minutes waiting, I again asked the host if we could get to see our server - that perhaps we could get the salad? I'm afraid that I had to raise my voice a tad to get him to move towards the inside of the restaurant - this really made me feel awful. 5 more minutes passed and nothing. For the first time in my life we got up and walked out. It became painfully obvious to us that for some unknown reason they did not wish to have us dine there. We walked up the hill and went into Whistling Willies. The place was packed, we were seated in a few minutes, received our drinks and salads within 10 minutes and were enjoying delicious burgers in 20 minutes. read more

Yesterday, my husband and I had lunch on the patio which was nicely shaded on a hot summer afternoon. The old depot building is very quaint inside and out. Our waiter, Eric, was very nice and on top of things. That was about it for the good things. I had NE clam chowder to start. It had a beige color to it and it had a thick coagulated broth. It was more of a potato bacon soup with some tasteless clams. Both of us ordered the French dip sandwich with fries. We asked to substitute the Parmesan rosemary fries with garlic truffle sauce which they did. The meat on the sandwich was cut too thick and was rather chewy. Some pieces had fat and gristle. The au jus was good. The "special" fries were SO BAD! Shoe string cut that were completely hard like potato stick chips. So dry and tasteless. Eric brought us the regular fries when we told him the Parmesan rosemary fries were awful. The garlic truffle sauce was good to dip the regular fries in though. Be prepared for trains going by - we didn't mind it but some folks were startled by the noise. The atmosphere was good but unfortunately, our meal was not. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for a late lunch on a summer weekday after a morning in Cold Spring. We were seated right away on the outside patio, but without any eye contact, warmth, or any welcome by the waiter. Menus and silverware plopped in front of us at the table and off he went. The menu is somewhat limited, with a few burgers, some entrees, and some appetizers which were mostly fried. After ordering, we waited over half an hour for a burger and the salmon, while several other tables who arrived after us were served and even finished their meals. We were never approached about a delay or offered additional water, etc. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. It was cooked correctly and the salmon had an unusual crust which was very good. The burger was fair, but also cooked as requested. During the meal I believe we were approached once by our waitress. We felt ignored and as if they could care less about our satisfaction or if we ever came back. We won't. While the setting is great (if you don't mind the trains hurling past about 40 feet away every few minutes) the mediocre food and apathy by the staff are more than enough reasons for us to explore other options should we return to Cold Spring (which itself is wonderful). read more

our group of 7 came here after our hike to the nearby Mt Taurus; we actually had to wait in line for at least 10 minutes before we could be given a table that late Sunday afternoon. you can actually just get inside the building to quickly get drinks and food, but you may probably miss a lot by not getting a table inn the outdoor area that has colorful lawn umbrellas on each table. the train would pass by during the whole period of our meal in this place but it felt like it was all part of the dining experience; you'd have a sense that you're somewhat being pulled by the power exerted by each passing train. i settled for portabello sandwich and a mug of dark beer, which became perfect combination to stave off the hunger that i was having then after finishing that hike. my friends got themselves different kinds of burgers and beers, and we had a great conversation that lasted for over an hour, until we realized it was getting chilly and it's time to head off again to the city. i'll certainly be back here one of these days again, even if the service is kinda slow (which was understandable, mainly because they had so many customers that time). read more

A group of 27 of us were road tripping and stopped at this spot for lunch. We were coming from the city... you know how New York City residents can be. The waiters and staff, which was understandable, were most likely not used to such a large group of people as it's not a very big restaurant... especially a group that is used to New York City food service. However, they made as much of an effort as they could to keep us happy, despite some of us getting nasty towards the waiters. Yes, the food was cold blah blah but you can only expect so much from a small establishment outside of the city. Honestly, I thought the food was nice, I absolutely loved the view, it was very beautiful, and the waiters were as patient as a waiter can be when customers are being unfairly difficult. They even gave us a discount which honestly, I didn't think we earned. We maybe deserved it, but we didn't earn it with our behavior. I ordered a hot chocolate after lunch and it was warm and delicious. I wouldn't recommend a very large party, however I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a beautiful cozy spot for breakfast or lunch. read more

it took 1 hr to get our food....4 adults 2 children..everyones food came at a different time...it was awful too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the waiter was disinterested..not helpful nor pleasant.......my grandaughters husband had 3 bites of his 25 dollar steak.it was mostly all fat..................they were unobliging about it...........[this was on mothers day 2011.plus the place has no handicap parking that we could see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!save yourself the bother................. read more

I had come to this restaurant several times in the past and enjoyed one particular dish. Based on that, I booked my rehearsal dinner. What a catastrophic mistake. After realizing that the number of may party changed, I called the owner to discuss how he could issue the difference since I had PREPAID for the entire party (what an error that I will never repeat). He actually started shouting at me and complaining about the charges he incurs in using the credit card machine. He goes on a barrage of verbal abuses and hangs up on me! Stunned, I call my fiance to ask if we should move it but with only 1 day notice and having paid several hundred dollars, he thought we should stick it out and the owner would come to his sense. Well, he didn't. We arrived and stood at the maitre'D's desk for quite some time and no one came to greet us. I was finally able to usher in my party through the bar as staff just starred at us. We found our tables and ordered. The salad came out on saucers instead of salad plates; dinner took an hour and 10 minutes to arrive after we finished the salad; the fish smelled spoiled and many of the "fresh, local vegetables" were burned. I was so embarrassed that I was only able to eat a string bean before pushing the plate away from me. The staff did their best but they had obviously been "warned" about or party. at the end of the evening, the manager approached me about issuing a credit for the difference in the number in attendance.
