    Banana bread chai
    Sydni K.

Was strolling around downtown and decided to grab a drink to cool myself down. I was drawn in by the cute aesthetic of the shop but unfortunately the service was not great. The worker didn't acknowledge us walking in and wasn't super helpful when we had questions with the menu. There was ample street parking nearby but no designated lot for the place. I got the banana bread chai. Overall, the drink was pretty good and a good level of sweet. I'm not a chai expert or anything, but it hit the spot for a hot Hilo day. The pink heart straws were a cute touch! While my drink was good, the service here definitely needs to be improved.

Original Coffee Girl was always a cute visit because of the decor and the drink specials, but service always took unusually long. With the new location, I'm in love. Just as aesthetically pleasing (a bit more grown up in a way), but service has been so friendly. Same great food (avocado toast!), but I think the downtown location makes tastier drinks. The banana bread latte is my fave on Big Island and Oahu. My friend got the BBL downtown and Puainako, and she said the downtown one was better! Happy for them to be able to open a second location.

Forgettable coffee, but sweet staff and incredibly dialed in aesthetic. They got me good with the heart shape straw, I've never seen it before.

    Avo toast . So good!

Such a cute coffee shop!! Love the decor and comfortable seating! Would be a lovely venue for small gatherings! The coffee and avo toast were delicious too! Friendly barista and very helpful barista! Will definitely go again!

Such a cute cafe in Hilo. Very chic and loved the decor; and the drinks were pretty good. Only complaint is they are a little spendy at relatively $10 each for the large, but gotta support local small businesses. Their menu seem like a good variety- a little something for everyone. They were very tasty though- the foam was so good. Gals were super nice too.

This place is perfect. The coconut and strawberry matcha are EVERYTHING. The service was amazing, the shop itself is adorable. Highly recommend

    Caramel Macchiato with Oat Milk

Greeted as soon as you walk in the door, friendly baristas. They will help you decide which drink to get if you're unsure. I got the Caramel Macchiato with Oat Milk, it was 10/10 amazing! And the Chicken Pesto Panini is always made fresh to order & so delicious. They do have a Fall Menu available with a variety of pumpkin drinks. They also have different muffins daily, my favorite is the sprinkle muffin! This shop is much larger than the original Coffee Girl at Puainako Town Center & this one is also open on Sundays!!

My coffee was fresh and tasted great, and the bagel hit the spot. I had the "Country Club" bagel. The staff were friendly and welcoming without being overbearing, which added to the laid-back vibe. Keep in mind I pay close attention to detail - The merchandise out in the front of the store needs to be taken better care of. Some of them aren't doing so good. - It honestly didn't smell pleasant in there. I'm not sure if it was just that day but it didn't smell nice that's for sure. - Walked in, only one other customer in there. Worker looks directly at me and stares like I'm an inconvenience. No greeting, no wave, not even a smile. We actually had to be the ones to smile and tell the employee "Hi!" - We walked up to the counter and still no hospitality of something like "how can I help you?" "First time here?" "How are you today?" Etc. - She uncomfortably stared at us as we looked at the menu. Not even looking at it for a solid 30 seconds and says "Let me know if you have questions" then walks away. -We did buy a single dessert because we were already there. After purchase there's no "Thank you" "Have a nice day" it seems like having business was a pain. - The utensils on the side aren't wrapped and all loosely in a container with the fork and spoons handle in first. To me that's unsanitary already, other people's hands are touching it. Dust will also definitely accumulate as old ones won't be switched out just keep getting more added in there. I'll give this place another chance but how our first trip went I'd really like to give it a 0/5. All in all we didn't feel welcomed in there.

That alone meant so much. From the moment I arrived, Paul made me feel special. He greeted me with a warm smile, seated me at a beautifully decorated birthday table, and surprised me with a birthday sash and crown. It was such a thoughtful gesture that truly touched my heart and made me feel celebrated on my special day. I enjoyed fresh-squeezed orange juice and the Belgian waffle with bacon. The waffle was absolutely delicious--beautifully presented with fresh fruit and whipped cream, and honestly the best waffle I've ever had. A huge mahalo to Paul and his team for making my birthday so memorable. The food was outstanding, but it was the kindness, warmth, and genuine hospitality that made this experience unforgettable. 12/10 Highly recommend!

And you need a reservation. The tiny restaurant only has three two person tables (the other party of four had two pushed together). And it is only open Wednesday thru Saturday, 7:30am- 2pm. I made the reservation for my friend's Birthday lunch by text. It is conveniently located by the farmers market, and there is plenty of free parking in the area. The space is airy, and on our visit, decorated for Easter. We were immediately greeted by Paul. The restaurant is staffed by him, and one other employee. The menu is short, and all the better for it. Paul explained the menu and gave us recommendations. I was already interested in the Pasta de Marco, which appears to be a part of a regular menu. Angel hair pasta, lightly fried, tossed with fresh veggies and pesto, and lightly toasted baguette on the side. We also had the tuna, two ways, and papaya salad. Both were perfect, incredibly fresh, all ingredients balanced, beautifully presented. Paul had us end with the Belgium waffle. I've had waffles in Belgium, and these were the best I've had. Crispy, soft, with berries, whip cream, and powdered sugar, it didn't even need the (warm!) syrup. This experience felt like being a guest in the chef's home. Paul treated all customers as a friend, he was funny, relaxed, and personable. I also personally appreciated it is the safest restaurant for me to eat at as he hates bell peppers as much as I do! The only disappointment when the meal ended. Mahalo!

The espresso was strong, not overwhelmingly bitter, and had a good consistency to it. While sitting at the bar, I noticed that they had a Day Drink menu with a bunch of coffee and chocolate cocktails, including an espresso martini and a cacao old fashioned. For $14 and $13 respectively, these seemed like very reasonable prices. Definitely something I'll check out on my next visit. On the right side of the store is a gift shop, while the left side has a bunch of seating for patrons. I noticed there were a few people here with their laptops out, so I can only assume it's also a good place to work as well. The store seemed pretty quiet, street parking outside was easy, and the staff I interacted with here was friendly. Puna Chocolate Company is a good rest spot to stop by to escape from the busyness of Downtown Hilo.

Mostly in mint color, the interior is simple and yet it does emit a lot of cuteness. What was eye catching to us was the swing inside at one of the side windows. Whether it's okay for a person to actually sit on it to enjoy a little swing time is something I didn't find out from the young lady who manned the upfront bar by herself, if it's solely as a decorative piece to create the kind of ambiance this place suits to manifest, it does do a lot to attract visitors' attention. The lady was quiet and yet kind enough to give us everything we needed for the late morning walk into the town. My daughter and I wanted to split quads of espresso shots so that was our only order and yet we needed two separate cups with lots of ice in each cup with a little side cream (half and half) so we could make our own iced latte or cappuccino later (we didn't want ice immediately after the espresso was made as it would have diluted the coffee had it been made that way. Sounded like it was a little too much to ask which we felt a bit awkward. The kind lady simply did everything for us. Thanks to her for being so accommodating to our demanding needs!!) The shop is located from other businesses oceanfront so it's walkable to other things as long as you are talking "the center of Hilo". So for the location, convenience, cute ambiance and patience in service, we enjoyed our quick pick up experience while we were in town.
