I really wanted to love Coffee Exchange because the rustic, aesthetic vibes are totally my thing, but the energy was just... off. It's a great-looking spot in RI with a small patio and some limited parking in the back, but the atmosphere felt pretty unwelcoming. To be honest, as a person of color, I felt like we were treated differently than other customers. While the person taking our order was fine, the rest of the staff and even the patrons were snappy and rude, which really killed the vibe. It's a shame because the coffee itself is actually incredible. You can tell they really know what they're doing--the options are expansive and every cup is clearly well-crafted. If you're just in it for a high-quality brew and don't mind a side of cold energy, it might be worth it, but the lack of basic hospitality makes it hard to fully enjoy. A total "vibey" spot on the outside, but definitely lacked the warmth you'd expect from a local coffee shop.

So many beans!!

Absolutely incredible coffee. I have only ever had Yama cold brew once before, so I'm so glad to have another location that has it available! This is a true coffee shop- so many beans!! Service was quick, insixe was so cozy with plenty of seating & outdoor seating as well.

I recently came back to Coffee Exchange to purchase coffee for friends since I knew they really enjoy Coffee Exchange. Next to the order counter, there is a collection of Coffee Exchange's sustainably sourced, and freshly roasted, specialty coffee. A staff member welcomed me and asked how he could help. I informed him I was looking to purchase a pound of the Guatemala Chajul American Roast and Colombia Fudam American Roast. He asked if I wanted it to be grinded and I said yes. Then, he asked if it was for French press, chemex, espresso, or drip. Since I wasn't sure what brewing method my friends used, he asked if they lived locally and I said yes. Since different methods require different grind sizes to optimize extraction and flavor, he didn't want to grind it and the taste to be negatively affected. He informed me that my friends can bring the coffee beans to Coffee Exchange and they can ground it for them. I appreciated that and he was very friendly.

Let me say I've been to many different cafes. I got an iced latte from here and it was sooooo good! Had to keep going back. It's busy all the time but the coffee and food is worth it.

This spot is so cute. The inside is so comfortable and surprisingly spacious. The coffee is great and it's so cool to see the selection of beans right at the shop. The coffee was nice and service was pretty efficient!

This place has a great selection tea and some gluten-free snacks. It's always very crowded when I go there however. I guess people like the coffee! That being said, it's often hard to find someplace to sit.

Amazing location and vibes inside. Hot cocoa and chai are both great options for non-coffee drinkers. Busy for a reason!

Amazing coffee and vibes! This is my favorite coffee shop in Providence. The espresso and drip coffees are all great! I've also used their beans at home in my chemex and really enjoyed them. Really great spot

We came on a weekday morning around 11am, and every table was taken! Great ambiance, but definitely very busy with many people working on laptops. 4/5 Caramel Latte -- sustainably sourced house roasted beans, personally I expected a bit more roasty notes from the espresso. There was also many prepackaged syrups along the wall, and wished they had homemade syrups.

Friendly service and great coffee. Just a little loud due to the customers who come in and basically shout at each other.

Ask the Community - Coffee Exchange

Not open on weekends?

Sorry Michael, Since the Pandemic started, we've only been able to open 7-3 mon-Fri. We're down to 8 people from 28, so our hours need to be managed to maintain this small staff and not open up for more people inside (social distancing. etc.)…

5 Stars for a great strawberry matcha latte and phenomenal cappuccino…read more This coffee and matcha shop has so much more to it than a typical coffee shop. It has a ton of Japanese treats in the fridge as well as shelves. They also have a bar and sell wine and fun cocktails. They brew Bolt coffee (a local brewer and coffee shop) and make a truly exceptional cappuccino. Like, really really good third wave style espresso drinks that I've not found at other shops in Providence so far (two week visit). I was initially worried their iced strawberry matcha latte might be too sweet, but that was fortunately not at all the case! It was balanced and mild. Just be sure to stir it up! They also have some pastries and baked goods from Seven Stars Bakery, and we thoroughly enjoyed a small lemon cake. We'll likely be back in our last few days in town because we became quick fans!

I like the branding, brightness of the cafe, and the fact that there's a decent amount of seating. I got the Iced French Vanilla Espresso Latte + Espresso Teddy which was well-made, bold, and enjoyable. I think the Espresso Teddy is actually made with cold brew and not espresso which I expected given the name and would have preferred. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the slow melt and the boost of caffeine I got as I kept sipping. And it's super cute! The Iced Mont Blanc was also a good try; the sweet orange flavor was subtle and surprisingly enjoyable adding a bright taste to each sip. If I'm ever back in Providence, I would totally come back and maybe try their matcha drinks.
