Roberts N.'s review is bogus. He wasn't even in Coffee Coffee yesterday when that incident occurred, because I was there for a while and never saw him. I'm sure he's either made up or is writing the review for a "friend". This friend is a local troublemaker who works at Rhino Art, lives in his creepy white van covered in surf stickers, and harasses local businesses. (Example: sits at Lofty Bean and after hitting on the female employees, hassles them for not giving him free coffee). He's well known in the area. For the purpose of setting the record straight, let's call him Dick. Dick had been there for a while freeloading the wifi. We were sitting behind him and noticed him once again lurking around the shop, downloading what looked like porn, and not buying any coffee or food (we go there pretty often, and we see his usual pattern). He was sitting at the bar. The owner had noticed that Dick had parked like a douchbag, taking up two spots in the tiny parking lot. He came over and very quietly said he noticed Dick was in the shop for a few hours that day, and asked him to park across the street if he was going to be in the shop for hours, since they try to have those spots open for customers going in and out, deliveries, etc. It was pretty quiet. We only heard because we were totally eavesdropping, hoping they would kick creepy Dick out. Dick gets angry, and curses at the owner. The owner is very nice but firm. Dick then runs after the owner, and has some altercation with him, and then the owner told him to leave (YAY!!!). Dick curses, flips the bird, says something like "you're gonna be sorry, you don't know who I am" (yes, we do, you live in that van over there), and then leaves and slams the door. He freaked out the customers who heard the whole thing, but they were fine since he left, and we were stoked he finally got booted. We began talking about whether Dick was crazy enough to actually do something, and after while came up with a couple options: vandalism, coming back and making a scene, or being a chicken and writing nasty online reviews. I looked, and shocker: there it was. I don't normally write reviews, but the story had to be told. Five stars and huge props to the owner for being super nice and professional, even when having to confront an aggro creep. I appreciate someone who looks out for all of his customers. read more

Life is short, don't drink crappy coffee (I.e. Starbucks). While not the best latte I've ever had it was certainly in the upper echelon. Great fair trade coffee served with friendly service in a very relaxed environment. I recommend taking a few minutes to sit outside on the patio near the ocean and enjoy a quality cup of joe. read more

Coffee...Great - Service...Awful This could be such a fantastic little spot. It's cozy and has great coffee. I guess it is why I continued to go in even with the terrible service. It comes down to the little surfer punks behind the counter. I understand that it is hard to hire great service members at a little coffee shop but at least get someone friendly. A previous reviewer put it perfectly. It is like they are doing you a favor. My wife loves their white coconut cream tea. She prefers it iced. Every time she orders it iced the barista has to make a big deal about it. As if we have asked them to perform a miracle. I have been in there dozens of times and not once has anyone smiled at me. I guess I'm not cool enough to order coffee from them. There's a reason why Lofty Coffee has a line out the door throughout the day. They welcome customers in and make them feel comfortable. Every time I am in Cafe Ipe I feel like I'm in somebody's way at all times. You can have the best product in the world but at the end of the day it comes down to the customer. read more

Unfortunately I have to give a bad review to such a lovely location. Anyhow during lunch I ordered a cesar salad, breakfast croissant with turkey for my husband and 2 coffees. Total bill was $24+ (for avocado addition they asked $1.50). For the price I was expecting a high quality, healthy meal. We received very boring, flavourless salad and the sandwich (they switch to a multigrain bread since they runout of croissants) which came with the lowest quality, gross ingredients: cheese was one of those "cheese like" product squares (similar to Kraft cheese) and a turkey slices of a cheapest lunch meet quality, eggs (we couldn't even tell if there were real eggs) and a tomato. Everything tasted as if I bought my lunch at 7/11 or a gas station with the huge price difference. WOW! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT considering I could get a healthy equivalent for a better price at the Whole Foods Market few blocks away. read more

I had such a great breakfast sandwich on Thursday (I had the Dawn Patrol, add bacon), I went back Saturday for another. I was told on Saturday that they couldn't add bacon. When I told them I was just there 2 days ago and had no problem adding bacon to my BREAKFAST sandwich (bacon is a part of many people's breakfast), they said you must have had another cook that day and they couldn't do it. OKAY-well, then I'll just order a side of bacon and place it on the sandwich myself. (Not sure why putting bacon on my sandwich when it is just sitting in the kitchen already cooked is such a difficult request.) They told me they don't sell sides of bacon. WHAT? 2 days ago I can get bacon on my BREAKFAST sandwich, and today I can't? Shame on you Cafe Ipe for taking such a simple request and refusing it. I was even willing to PAY for it. The last time I checked, customer service was part of running a business. I wasn't asking for some strange request. You have bacon, I wanted some on my sandwich. Your rigidity was such a turn off, and I WILL NOT BE BACK. Fortunately for you, the location is great and people like coffee shops in Leucadia and Encinitas. If you were located anywhere else with this attitude, you'd be out of business quickly. By the way, I agree with Lauren's review. You are also insanely slow and need to get it together at your front counter. People were waiting forever while the cashier stopped taking orders to clean out the iced tea dispenser. Really? We were dumbfounded from the moment we walked in. Having been in the business for 15 years, and my husband still being in it, we truly were perplexed. GOOD RIDDENS! Oh, by the way, thanks to the PANNIKIN down the street for a great breakfast sandwich (that allowed me to add items on for a small fee). Imagine that--catering to the customer. read more

VG's doughnuts, check. Hot coffee served up with a friendly smile, check (what a welcome change from another coffee shop's morning attitude - but we won't name names)! Working from home just around the corner makes this a welcome addition to the hood. Now they just need to get some beers on tap in the evening, and I'll never have to leave the bubble. read more

Just had the best bagel on 101 at Cafe Ipe. If you have not been to Cafe Ipe, you are missing out on a great experience, especially on a warm summer morning. Nice vibe, great outdoor patio, fantastic fresh roasted coffee and, of course reasonable. I like our Pannikin, but this is a whole different experience. Strongly suggest you give it a try. read more

@ Coffee Coffee service is Coughy Coughy. First and last visit today with the family. Ordred a latte and mocha with pastries. About 5 minutes later the drinks were ready, but when I looked at them, both looked like muddy slush, so I asked what happened with the drinks and why were they missing the latte art that other cups served prior had. The answer by the girl (strawberry blond with blue eyes) playing the role of barista was that I should have asked for it when I ordered, but offered to remake. I took the offer. After all other orders were completed, so another nearly 15 minutes she provided the remade drinks and again lectured me on how I need to order next time. The drink was comparable to Starbucks with less bitterness and acidity. Not comparable to other roaster coffee shops. The arrogance, lack of care, and lack of love for coffee are disappointing. Luckily there are better alternatives available just down the road. (May give another try in 6 months if stuff rotates.) read more

Fantastic!! I ate the most wonderful donut here! Changed my life. The donut to frosting ratio was impeccable and, boy, they sure did not hold back on the sprinkles. Very grateful for this place. Great little coffee place on 101. I'd driven by Cafe Ipe countless times and always thought I should try it out, but just hadn't made the effort. Went last Sunday to work on assignments and drink some good coffee, and I am totally hooked! A live band (I'm assuming they were local young musicians) was playing out on the patio, and they were amazing. Loved the vibe, free wifi, and great food/drinks. I'm so happy I found this place close to home!! Everything I had there so far was excellent (acai bowl, salmon on croissant, pastries). Coffee is every bit as good as lofty's or Zumbar. More breakfast food choices than other coffee houses nearby and the portions are very generous (shareable) and reasonably priced. I especially want to commend their server (Mexican gentleman), who has been exceptionally nice and helpful every time I visited. read more

They have a breakfast sandwich, which I had but the English muffin was cold and hard- not even heated up or toasted.
