Spectacular! The best meal of our trip! I ordered the Chicken Fried NY Strip on Mashed Potatoes. The absolute best I have ever had, Highly recommend. We also ordered the Milk Bread made in house and WOW! Paired with house made garlic Butter, just fantastic. We also ordered a Wedge Salad, also great. Our Lunch mates ordered their classic burger and fries (WOW!) and a Grilled Chicken Breast with Avacado, all just Great! The hosts emphasized the time limit on the table multiple times before seating us, and then again once we were seated. It felt very awkward and uncomfortable, especially since it was early in the evening, around 5:40 p.m., and the vast majority of the tables were empty. Had we been approached by our waitstaff immediately, and had our order been taken as quickly as we are accustomed to, we could have been out of there in under an hour. With as long as it took for the wait staff to approach us, take our order, bring our meal to us, and take our payment at the end of the meal, we might have approached their *important* table time limit. The food and atmosphere were pretty good, but our experience was overshadowed by how we were made to feel upon arrival. To me, the most outstanding part of our meal was the Japanese milk bread. I'm a foodie and I've eaten at a lot of places. This is seriously good food. Try this place. You won't regret it. I got the 14 oz ribeye and it was amazing. Service was nice and ambiance nice for a conversation and like waiter gave us space. Also parking relatively easy. Food was very good and love how waiter recommended great pairings with my wife's dish that were 100% accurate. Shows they know their menu. Love that. It's expensive but great for an occasion. And yes menu is small, but has something for everybody! read more

Wow wow wow!!! We had such a wonderful time. We came in on Saturday for their happy hour and stayed for dinner. The happy hour menu has a few selected cocktails and two appetizers. Not the best happy hour prices or selection but it's nice they happy hour on a Saturday. Our server I can't speak more highly for her Anyssa. She was absolutely incredible. She walked us through the whole meal and had amazing recommendations. We got the lobster bisque she mentioned and it was delicious. She knew how to read the tables and provide the service at each one. She made us feel incredible comfortable and that we belonged. She is super refreshing. We started off with a happy hour margarita and old fashion both delicious. Then the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare was okay, lots of the flavor got soaked up. The bread was so good we got two orders. For dinner we decided to split the Beef Wellington and got her recommendation of the green beans. It was so delicious. We paired it with a bottle of Hess Wine. For dessert we got the chocolate cake and espresso martini her recommendation! The atmosphere was nice with us sitting in a booth. It was pretty busy on Saturday, so definitely recommend reservations. The bill was around $200-$300. We definitely back and highly recommend Anyssa for a wonderful experience! read more

"I've never heard of a chicken fried NY Strip. But it's really good. It's not just half breading like a normal chicken fried steak. I recommend it." "That is one helluva tomahawk looking pork chop. It has a sweet jam on the top with the goat cheese. Really nice... it's really good." "I like their take on the Old Fashioned. Sweet bitters with spicy rum is a cool idea. I like it." These are all things I heard from other tables while waiting for my drink order. After 30 minutes passed, I told the other diners it was nice chatting with them and left. No, it wasn't busy. No, they were not short staffed. I understand this younger generation is tired of working for slave wages because lawmakers refuse to change things and do away with the gratuity system and as a result there is a significant wage worker shortage. I get that. I am patient, tolerant, and on the side of the service industry. But I have also served, and I can spot the difference between a busy, stretched thin crew and poor service. There is a limit. By the way the picture is of the drink I got within 2 minutes of sitting down at the place across the street. The food may not be as epic, but at least I'll taste it before the next ice age. read more

I've been here enough roughly 6 times. This is not a restaurant that seats you quickly, prices are cheap, food is made quickly, portions are giant and you leave as soon you get there. This is a place you come with a date or friends to have great drinks, enjoy the ambience, savor your meals, and have dessert. Expect to be here a few hours to really enjoy it. The food I've had has always been delicious. My favorite app is the coconut panko shrimp. Caesar salad is delightful. Recommended entrees: Beef Wellington, the duck, short rib, scallops, pork chops and steaks. Crème brûlée is delicious. My only negative was recently I ordered the short rib and it was crazy fatty-hardly any meat. It was a sad day. I've had it before and it was much better then. read more

Highly recommend this place! I was visiting New Braunfels for the weekend and wanted a cool, upscale place for dinner....this was exactly what I wanted! It's not a large place, but it's upscale without being snobby. I sat at their bar for dinner....drinks were fantastic and staff was on point! I had a steak that was fired better than some expensive steak places in Dallas! They were out of a wine I ordered with my steak....but the owner himself recommended a replacement that was perfect. Again....service from staff was some of the best I've had. Prices are not cheap....you're paying for this excellence....but it's worth it and definitely fair for what you're getting. We came here for our 37th anniversary dinner. When I made our reservation, I was specifically asked if we would be celebrating any special occasion and I told them about our anniversary. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating considering I made the reservation the same day. I had read some rather negative reviews but there were quite a few good ones. I've tried places with mediocre reviews and been pleasantly surprised. I prefer to keep an open mind. I should've taken these reviews to heart. First of all, the waiter did not even acknowledge that we were celebrating a special occasion. I felt like it was too awkward to have to mention it, especially after being asked specifically about it. Secondly, I feel like they're trying too hard to be trendy or gourmet. Their food is mediocre at best, lacking flavor and seasoning. Finally, you absolutely don't get what you pay for. I don't mind paying good money if the food is outstanding. In this case we did not get what we paid for and it was an expensive dinner as we ordered appetizers, meals, and drinks. It came to a total that was much higher than what we were comfortable spending for what we received. Our waiter was pleasant enough, but didn't really engage with us very much. Over all, it was a mediocre experience that will be chalked up to a lesson learned. Disappointing. We're fairly new to NB, but hope to discover better eating experiences in the future. It's tough coming from a military background where we've been stationed at some killer foodie towns (Tampa, San Diego, etc.). read more

Wow. Our first time visiting Cody's newest location in New Braunfels and we will definitely be back for future date nights. Food: Killer. The best steak in town, by far. So tender. So we'll cooked. The scallops just melt in your mouth. The Brie & Tuna appetizer was to die for. Wine pairing was delightful. Everything was perfect but the star of the show was the service. Mr. Randy Fitz was our server and when I say that the service was perfect, I'm not blowing smoke. Randy is obviously an experienced server who knows what he's doing. My family and I made the drive from Dallas down to New Braunfels, and it was well worth it! From the service to the food, this place is a 100/10. Everything was very well put together. We were sat outside, and the weather couldn't be any better. Fantastic food, service and drinks. Will definitely make it a point to make it back here in the future. Such an amazing place to eat fine dining small quiet and quaint. Makes for a perfect date night. I got the filet with mashed potatoes. The meat was cooked so perfectly seasoned just right with a great touch of salt made it amazing. Mashed potatoes very creamy loved it just sadly a little too salty and I love mashed potatoes so I was bummed to not be able to finish it. The braised beef short rib with mash was great the gravy and meat balanced out the saltiness from the potatoes so it didn't affect that meal. Can't wait to go back again though! read more

Had to find someplace to eat while my wife attended a meeting. On the internet this looked like an average place to eat, boy was I mistaken, when I walked inside it felt like a higher end restaurant (actually nicer than quite a few we've eaten at). Service was exceptional, Cheyenne waited on me, and the food was outstanding. I think I'm a bit of a burger snob (if that's what I'm getting) and really prefer smash burgers, this was a fat, perfectly cooked burger that was absolutely delicious (I wasn't really in the mood for a regular style dinner). I commented to Cheyenne this is a place I would consider taking my wife for our upcoming 46 yr wedding anniversary. Highly recommend. read more

My husband made a reservation for my birthday dinner 2 weeks in advance. We've lived here a year and have always held this place in high regard due to its rating, status and reputation in the area. On the day of the reservation, we were hastily sat to a high-top table. I think this was at convenience to the restaurant. This reservation was for my birthday before going out of town for over a week. This was the last day I could see my husband before coming back after my birthday. He did the work and made the reservation well in advance. The other part of the work was on the restaurant. With such expensive prices, we expected a near fine dining experience. I was sat at a rocky stool with crumbs of old food in the chair back. The chair back was broken. The staff hastily replaced the chair with one that was not fit for the high-top table. I did not accept this replacement. Bottom line: reservations at so-called esteemed establishments should be respected and honored. This was not and I would recommend that you ensure to double check your reservation to this establishment before wasting your time. read more

I've put off this review for a while because I knew it would be long...my husband and I come to Cody's a lot, generally for appetizers and happy hour. Y'all, even if that were the total basis for my review, it would totally be 5 stars. We love the bacon wrapped poblanos, the tuna tartar, and the burrata salad. The bar service is great and the bartenders (and Cody) know their stuff and can make great recommendations. We've been for regular dinners a few times, and it's always solid, if a little pricey. I think it has the nicest fine-dining ambiance in NB, so I can get past that. But here's the thing, once a month, Cody's does a multi-course chef's tasting reservation-only dinner, and it is far and away the best food and service you can get in NB right now. All my pix and comments from here on out will be about the dinner we had last Sunday. First, it was very on point for mid-summer (who am I kidding...hot as hell) weather with seafood, citrus and basil showing up as repeated flavor notes in the courses. Second while it was promoted as a 7-course dinner, the amuse, which is generally just a taste, was an entire bowl of extremely delicious cucumber gazpacho, a perfect summer dish. The remainder of the courses included a seared scallop on a watermelon feta basil base, a really lush monkfish on a saffron risotto and my personal fave, a light little dish of phyllo wrapped around asparagus and risotto with a tasty variation on a Hollandaise sauce. Everything was beautifully plated, and they had enough servers on hand to make the timing feel perfect. I love dinners where the food and the service combine to create an evening's entertainment, not just food. Cody's achieved that and the last two chef's tastings meals I've had there have blown away anything else available in New Braunfels. read more

If you pay that much and everything on the menu is so expensive you expect it to be amazing. It was just mediocre. Great addition to New Braunfels. Food and service match the San Marcos location; much better outdoor seating and cozier interior in New Braunfels though. We had the rib-eye and the beef Wellington, both were outstanding. The beef Wellington had the perfect amount of peppy spice on the meat and it truly melted in your mouth. Although the dishes we had were $$$$ (around $60 per person) there are less expensive options ($19-25) that look great-- we just can't pass on the Wellington. Best steaks in NB. read more

Our reservation was at 6:30, we ordered before 7 and food did not arrive until after 8:30 and it came out cold. No manager ever came over to speak to us or apologize. Tables around us sat after us were helped. We left without any service, thanks for disappointing my wife and I on our anniversary. Gave this place a second chance after being disappointed when they first opened, and were just as (if not more) disappointed the second time around. First, we loved the restaurant that was at this location previously. It was great food, great service, great all around. When it changed, we were hoping we'd find an equally great place. Upon the first visit, some similar items on the menu were now $10 - $20 more expensive, and no longer included the amazing focaccia bread everyone loved so much. ( They actually kept it for a brief time during the transition, but started charging). The food was not as good, and the menu was transitional (we were told). Previously, there were several vegetarian selections which we also enjoyed. This time we went for happy hour, asked to sit outside as it was a beautiful day, and were taken to a dirty table in direct sunlight. All the patio umbrellas which previously existed have been removed, and all the tables were covered in a pretty thick dust. We asked to be moved to a table with some shade and were seated at a similarly dirty table. This one included bird poop! The table was never cleaned, or wiped, and plates and utensils wrapped in a cloth napkin were brought and placed directly on the dusty table. There are a few food and drink items available for happy hour, but for you wine drinkers, there is no happy hour for a glass of wine, only for an entire bottle of wine. ($13 a glass) I ordered the Coconut Shrimp which was quite good. ($8 for 4 shrimp, normally $14) We also ordered Brussels sprouts which came drenched in so much sauce it was soggy, and un-eatable. The $14 squash salad was mushy, and not very good. The $20 Lobster and Halibut Street tacos, (3) had some sort of pickled vegetable which totally dominated the flavor. It made the Lobster a bit pointless and just tasted like a pickle taco. All other items on the menu came with a steeper price point. ($30 - $65 range - with no sides, or up to $125 Ribeye. Sides are all separate. Average $8 ea.) Perhaps, we would have been happier with the preparation and flavor of the steeper priced selections....?? Overall, not a good dining experience. For 2 people, 1 glass of wine, Brussels sprouts, 3 street Tacos, salad, and Shrimp Appetizer, Our total bill came out to $80 with a 20% tip. (Other suggested tip rates were 25% and 30%) I am not concerned about the price IF the food and service are worth it. I'm just trying to give an idea of what to expect. I will say our server was attentive, but that didn't change the food or the dirty tables. We won't be returning a third time. read more

Went on a Saturday at 11:30am when it opened. We were greeted and sat a table with a smile. The place is tiny, but very elegant. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was good.
