Coco Renos is one of my favorite Long Beach establishments. I love coming to this little hole in the wall for some delicious enchiladas or fish tacos. It is my neighborhood go to for Mexican food! I love that I can walk there and particularly on a hot day, I love to order their frozen margaritas. The staff is always friendly and prompt. My favorite part however, is that this place attracts both vegetarians, vegans, meat eaters, drinkers, non-drinkers, and pretty much everyone living in Long Beach. My fish burrito had over-salted fish and cheap tasting cheese. The next day was not pretty, and I haven't even had that issue with cheaper "Mexican" food places. Service was alright. The Reno Room is close to my house and I occasionally meet up with friends there for tofu tacos, etc. Let's just get this out of the way first: The salsa is the best in Long Beach and I'm a big fan of the mango margaritas. But don't drink too much of them! I came here on a date once by a guy that asked me out while I was eating on my lunch break. It was a pretty OK 10 minutes into our date until he told me that he recently tried to commit suicide during a pot-induced (that always gets me) epiphany that if he didn't kill himself in that moment, he would try to kill his girlfriend-at-the-time. So he failed at committing suicide and became a born again Christian. He might as well have told me that he eats live babies. I had to drink 4 mango margaritas to get through that date and that was SUCH A BAD IDEA! It's too much sugar! I could barely make it walking home without throwing up! Coco Reno's is great! Best chile rellenos in town and as a standard measure I have all the Mexican food places take the relleno test. Also, the complimentary chips and salsa is crucial as well to any respectable Mexican food joint. Although I've been told by one waitress that works there that this isn't real Mexican food because they use jicama in some dishes and they never use lard in any preparation. So I don't know what you call it officially but I call it damn good yummy and healthy Mexican eats! The whole set up of Coco Reno's is perfect as well. This is as 'hole in the wall' as it gets. The restaurant is tucked away within the Reno Room bar. And most times, I'm not down to be cramped up next to some strangers. But given that there is a bar steps away, and we can keep the drinky drinks rolling, I have no qualms rubbin elbows with fellow Mexican food lovers. I've had almost everything on the menu. I have never been let down. The food is tasty, not too greasy, and totally worth the prices they're valued at. Their salsa... the spiciest in the west. BUT SO STUPID ADDICTING. Been here several times with a couple of my gfs who live down the street. Fairly inexpensive tacos and burritos, but every time I've eaten here, I'm always left dissatisfied. However, their salsa is delicious and spicy. Their chicken is hit or miss when it comes to being dry or moist, but been consistently bland. I pretty much douse the taco and burritos with salsa and it kind of makes it better. The carne asada was tender, but again, lacking the flavor I typically expect. I'll give them credit for their mushroom burritos, tasty and a great vegetarian option. Never had an issue with the service. Okay....maybe I'm a bit biased towards this place since I did live upstairs from the joint for 5 years. For nearly 2 years Cocorenos was my dinner. Why you might ask? Well, it was the only thing open past 10pm. and no...I'm not a chubby bubby!!!! I started ordering the shredded beef chimichangas, moved onto the wet burritos, and have happily settled on the shrimp cancun salad with blackened mushrooms. Far healthier!!! There's usually a place to sit unless you show up around dinner time when it does get packed. There are only 4 tables that sit 2 comfortably....4 people at one table does get kinda packed. YOU CAN ALSO SIT IN THE BAR AND EAT. A lot of people don't realize the waitress will go out there and serve you regardless if you're at the bar or at a booth inside the Reno Room. But, keep in mind, if you're eating in the bar, the restaurant is full, so your service WON'T be as fast. I love the endless amount of chips and salsa, one of my favorite parts. One of my least favorite parts is the parking. The restaurant shares a parking lot in the back of the building with The Library coffee shop, the piercing shop, and all the rest of the jerks who park there even though they aren't patrons of the building. As a Vegan it's difficult to find places that I can enjoy as much as my carnivore friends, this place provides us both a delicious opportunity. The prices are reasonable. My husband & I are addicted to the tacos. For $4.50, i get 2 freshly made ground beef tacos that I can only say are devoured on the spot. They remind me of the tacos I ate growing up. Sanitation and food contamination is bad but not enough to make the food taste bad , it's the type of food that makes your stomach hurt because there not the cleanest but doesn't taste bad so you wouldn't even guess it but if your drunk you don't care like 75% of the people their. A group of us came here for dinner on Friday night. It was our first visit and I picked it based on the ratings here. We first sat down at a table in the Coco Renos side, but then realized we were going to have more people in our party than we thought. We found bigger booths on the Reno Room side so we opted for that side. Once everyone in our party arrived (7 of us) we managed to squeeze into a booth. Our waitress was friendly although being a big party, some of us were undecisive and we ended up taking forever to order. One of our party members was a bit needy and I give the waitress props for keeping her cool. The food was awesome and the prices were great. I make it a point to come here at least once or twice a month for a shredded beef taco plate and a Guinness. It's definitely a small place, but the food is worth it. I'm always happy to be greeted with a basket of their fresh chips & salsa. I have been a fan of Coco's for many years. There is a reviewer below who stated that they are over priced...that may be the case if you are comparing them to Taco Bell! Two people can order 2 dinners, and a round of sodas for less than $20. That is a deal, items are fresh and made to order. Guac is handmade as is salsa and all vegetables are chopped there in the kitchen. So, if you think $20 for dinner for 2 with sodas included is too much. Taco Bell may be the place for you.. They do not make all food fresh, most of thier products are pre made including the meat, all sauces are packed and full of chemicals.. Coco's is not like that at all! Coco's has a nice selection of veggie dishes along with the basic standards. It has a small 4 table 6 barstool compacity. that isn't a draw back , but for those of us who are large, overweight it may be uncomfortable seating. It is intimate ( close quarters) ,sharing access to a bar. Having a small space makes sense to be able to have a good turn around, We were lucky enough to hit during a slower moment on a Tuesday. Server was pleasant and answered our questions. Food was served promptly, and with the crowd, the server was hopping. She also suggested mushroom tacos. YUMMY!!!! Food was amazing.
