My favorite part of this spot is the ambiance. Super cute lighting, surfboard tables and local art for sale on the walls. Service was fine, you order ahead. The server had a whole tourist shpiel for places to explore which we cute (and unnecessary). The fish and chips are a joke. They brought out maybe 1.5 ounces of heavily breaded fish on a humongous pile of fries -- the fries were salty and addictive, but we were all ready for some tasty crispy fish. Instead, there were two very sad limp pieces (barely 2 square inches and pounded paper thin) on top of all the fries (which were so obviously meant to be filler and cut seafood costs). We went to both locations! The north location is smaller and doesn't serve alcohol (but we were told we could BYOB). The south location is bigger and serves beer and wine. I had the fish tacos both times and they are FIRE! Highly recommend. The fresh ahi was thick and cooked perfectly, that is, RARE! You must say SEARED RARE, PLEASE or you'll get cooked tuna which is not smart IMHO. Don't gamble with that. Don't assume. Ask. No matter which one you visit, you'll have a great experience! Closing note to every chef on this planet: look at the picture of the ahi on my review here... if you serve ahi OTHER THAN this way, you should never be allowed to touch fresh fish again. Every time we takeout food from here (all of four times when we visit Maui), we exclaim over how seriously so good the food is. The boys love the keiki meal options - fried or grilled fish with fries or brown rice. Husband loves their tacos... especially the mango salsa that top off the fresh and delicious tacos. We love the healthy option of ordering grilled fish over brown rice. And we love love the coconut shrimp! And prices are reasonable for such fresh seafood! Service is of course great. At the other Kihei location, we've enjoyed the most delicious fish tacos ever, and I expected the same quality. Walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor, scan the surfboard menu, then go inside and order at the desk. Put your order number on your table and it will be brought to you. There are tables available both inside and outside. My hubby and I've been trying to eat less and save money this trip, so we opted to share one order of Coconut Shrimp & Chips! My friend's daughter loves this place, and has been telling her mom she has to try the fish burger. So, after we checked into our place, we came here for lunch. My friend did try the Grilled Ono on a Bun, and other items. She did really like the fish sandwich. I got the Shrimp and Chips, which was good, but I got full quickly. I first ate here 9 years ago. Came back a couple times afterwards. They have the best coconut shrimp I've ever had! Their famous fish tacos are pretty good too! You get two full tacos when you order it. I recommend eating half of it with a fork before eating it like a regular taco. Also, I would order the coconut shrimp combo with fries instead of a la carte. There's another location about 5 (?) miles away, that's upstairs and a more modern building. They opened a location in Los Angeles during the pandemic, but it closed up in a year. Mainly because the whole block was under construction for a facelift...and the pandemic. I go to the next closest locations in Scottsdale, Arizona, whenever I visit our adult son. Great food!!! read more

I will dream about the Poke Nachos forevermore! In my opinion, they were the highlight of the meal. Watch the hours because they are a little strange. We were used to mountain standard time when we arrived on the island and were famished at 4 pm. We arrived at Coconuts at 4:30pm however they were closed from 4-5pm. We wandered around a nearby store to wait until they opened again. Boy am I glad we did!!! We ordered the Poke Nachos to share, 5 in our party ordered the fish tacos and one ordered the Kalua pork on a bun. The portion sizes are very large for the fish tacos and sandwich! We could have ordered two less meals and had plenty of food. Sharing the nachos with 5 of us and one fish taco was more than enough to fill up myself, my 25 year old daughter and my 18 year old daughter. My husband and 16 year old daughter were easily able to finish both fish tacos. The vibe in the place was so cute! The tables were wooden surf boards, the cool tones and cute decor gave the whole place a very beachy feel. The air conditioning unit was dripping a bit, but we just adjusted our seating to accommodate for the drips.
