When I'm in Maui, I always crave coconuts fish cafe coconut shrimp. I placed an online order before coming here for my order. It was just as good as I remember! The coconut and juicy shrimp were absolutely perfect with the sweet sauce on the side. It's a lovely snack and we were assisted by a very friendly man at the front. He asked if we were coming from diamonds which is apparently a bar two doors down. We were not but that would be a fun night out! read more

After being told by the cashier Coconut's was voted the #7 fish taco in the nation, I had high expectations. We did takeout and got the coconut shrimp and fish tacos. The coconut shrimp were the BEST I've ever had. Not too sweet, but perfectly balanced and the crust was light. As for the fish tacos, I've had better. They pride themselves by saying each fish taco has 17 ingredients, but I thought it was lacking compared to their coconut shrimp. read more

Fish and tarter sauce were great. The French fries were the worst I've ever had. Soggy, no crisp at all, just a terrible display. How can you put fries onto a plate that are that bad I will never understand. I won't go back, Disappointed honestly. One and done I'm embarassed for them, talk about botching a simple task. Who does this, tells you alot about a place RESPONSE: what are you talking about. I picked it up I was sitting in the parking lot and ate in my truck so no you didn't accurately dig into it. Amazing spot for a nice casual lunch! We devoured the fish tacos, ahi tuna salad, and coconut shrimp. Wow. Everything was fresh and flavorful! Probably the best coconut shrimp I've had. The best fish tacos on Maui! Fantastic staff that was very helpful. Great selection of eats. I had the Cajun shrimp fish tacos. My wife had the regular fish tacos and my daughter had the coconut shrimp app. Food came out quick and hot. Tortillas were crisped perfectly. Plenty of fish and fresh cabbage and what I think was mango salsa on top. The place was clean and well taken care of. We will be back! Really really good and filling dishes! Friendly service greats you at the door and you place your order and find seating. Small interior with some seating and some outside seating also. We ordered the fish tacos, basket of fries, and the taco mountain with pork. All of it was delicious, great combo of flavors with salty and sweet, and huge portions. My fish tacos were massive, could have been 2 each, they were falling apart and hard to eat because they were so full, that was my only minor issue. The pork was cooked to flavorful perfection and the taco mountain was like a "bowl" of food with a rice base but on a plate. Fries were thin and salty and hot, reminded me of McDonalds fries. This was recommended by a local and did not disappoint. I got the fish tacos and a local craft beer...they have a varied selection. The fish was excellent and flavorful. I believe this chain used to be in Kauai, so wee were excited . We would go to that one 5 time on that trip. But it's not the same as before. They used to have great happy hour but now it's not really much of a deal I think for shrimp. For the price you pay there are better choices now. Food was fine. Ambiance was as trip mall in a big strip mall and service was fine. Perhaps just a stop on a drive but not worth going out of your way. read more

This was our second visit to Coconuts in 2 years and yet again our very first meal in Maui after our all day ordeal to fly in from the mainland. We were pleasantly surprised that the cafe had transformed itself with a beautiful renovation inside and out. The vibe is ultra cute, modern and tropical. The staff was amazing - very welcoming and attentive. The food was so fresh and well presented - Coconuts certainly did not disappoint! We had the Grilled Mahi Mahi Salad, Grilled Mahi Mahi Plate and Mahi Mahi Fish and Chips. YES, when in Maui go for Mahi! The dishes were all freshly prepared and well presented. The flavors were so bright and refreshing, just awesome. Even with all the great food options in Maui I am tempted to go back very soon ... it was that good! It definitely deserved an upgrade from my previous 4 stars to 5! Excellent all around! Highly recommended. Not to be missed! read more

We went to both locations! The north location is smaller and doesn't serve alcohol (but we were told we could BYOB). The south location is bigger and serves beer and wine. I had the fish tacos both times and they are FIRE! Highly recommend. The fresh ahi was thick and cooked perfectly, that is, RARE! You must say SEARED RARE, PLEASE or you'll get cooked tuna which is not smart IMHO. Don't gamble with that. Don't assume. Ask. No matter which one you visit, you'll have a great experience! Closing note to every chef on this planet: look at the picture of the ahi on my review here... if you serve ahi OTHER THAN this way, you should never be allowed to touch fresh fish again. Look at that pic... look at it! This is the way. THIS IS THE WAY!! read more

The fresh coconut really enhanced the uniqueness to this dish. A definite must try. Local Chicken $17.99- a very basic dish that isn't anything different, so unless you aren't a seafood lover, I would pass on this local dish. Steak Soft Taco's(2) $17.99- if you are hungry, this dish will seem like an appetizer to you, so I is small in portion & not very satisfying. Every time we takeout food from here (all of four times when we visit Maui), we exclaim over how seriously so good the food is. The boys love the keiki meal options - fried or grilled fish with fries or brown rice. Husband loves their tacos... especially the mango salsa that top off the fresh and delicious tacos. We love the healthy option of ordering grilled fish over brown rice. And we love love the coconut shrimp! And prices are reasonable for such fresh seafood! Service is of course great. We can't vouch for the ambiance (we have only done takeout) but I'm guessing it's comfortable and fun. read more

IMHO This was my first visit to this particular location, and I was excited to be here for lunch. At the other Kihei location, we've enjoyed the most delicious fish tacos ever, and I expected the same quality. Walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor, scan the surfboard menu, then go inside and order at the desk. Put your order number on your table and it will be brought to you. There are tables available both inside and outside. My hubby and I've been trying to eat less and save money this trip, so we opted to share one order of Coconut Shrimp & Chips! I normally don't even like fish tacos, but Coconuts Fish Cafe completely changed my mind. They have the best fish tacos I've ever had. Each bite was packed with fresh, vibrant flavors that really surprised me. The portion was generous too, each order comes with two tacos, and that was more than enough to fill me up. That said, I still really appreciate what this spot is all about. Everything is made to order, from tacos and mulitas to quesadillas and their Sunday-only barbacoa (get there early if you want to try it--it's first come, first served!). What keeps me rooting for them is that they're a non-profit and proceeds go toward supporting the children and youth of local churches. So even if my meal wasn't as memorable this time, I'm still happy to support a business that's doing good in the community. Would I go back? Yeah, probably--especially on a Sunday to try the barbacoa. Just hoping for a little more balance the next time around.

We got the ahi sautéed with cajun rice ($28), the mahi mahi blackened with french fries ($27), and the clam chowder ($7). I liked the sautéed flavors with the butter and garlic. I loved the flavor of the blackened char flavor, and we loved that the fries were thin. The clam chowder was standard. One of the surprising stars of our meal was their house magic sauce. It was one of the condiments table-side and we found that it was so good with everything. We drenched it in the fish and even dipped it in the fries. Yeah the food is alright for the rich people. when they actually get a pick-up right. Ive called in 8 pick-up orders over the last year...NOT ONE was correct,come back home to find different sloopy fish i did not order. My fiance and I have been goin there for 2 years being very loyal customers to them, giving them houndreds of our dollors so I only went back once to let them know they need to work on getting orders correct. they used to tell us" you guys are what made us."..well wheres the respect back coconutz!! since you got big you dont give a shit about the Aina an the people that made you big. I knew them so well they offered me to do work for their rental and the dumb expantion of their cafe which was great for me cuz helping what I thought were friends and lookin for a new home,seemed liked it was ment to be. (our credit is perfect by the way)....they said sure sure that would be nice...well without even telling me callin me or letting me know anything,they rented their unit and that tentant is doing the work for them. I know its personal story and has nothing to do about food review..but it does because of them over pricing people, claiming good food and getting the fame they wanted to become popular, they think their king of maui. they remind me of a wal-mart now. your breathing the stinky persons breath who is standing right next to you cuz their place is so damn small. I never and I mean never eat fish. I hate it. I stay clear of all things that live in water. But today we went here and the staff was super accomodating for my child who changed her mind on whether she wanted red sauce or not on her spaghetti. The man taking our order asked if we had been in before when I said no he said we are famous for our fish tacos but my favorite is the Ono on the bun. I asked if it was fishy he told us it translates to Delicious and wasn't fishy. I took his advice ordered it, my husband got the tacos, and my son is Gluten free so he ordered grilled chicken and brown rice. Everyone enjoyed their food. The fries are like red Robin flavored but smaller and I preferred them over red Robin's. Oh and I ate all of my Ono on the bun. First time in my life I have ordered fish and I actually ate it!! It was good too. Tasted like chicken. I would give them a 5 but there was some miscommunication on the gluten free and we thought the teriyaki option was also gluten free on the grilled chicken but it was not unfortunately. So my son was accidentally eating gluten. Apparently just the plain grilled chicken is gluten free not the flavored. The order taker wasn't versed in their gluten free options but everyone apologized profusely and genuinely went out of their way to take care of us. read more

My husband and I found this place as we are driving around Kihei looking for a quick lunch before heading to Lahaina. The girl who took our order was really nice. We decided on an opakapaka fish burger (additional $2) and fish tacos. The great thing about this place is you can choose how you want your fish burger seasoned. My husband chose the lemon butter as was recommended by the server. He really liked the fish and mentioned he could taste the freshness of the fish. I on the other hand chose the 2 fish tacos. The mango salsa was very flavorful and overall the fish tacos were better (due to the amount of stuff-coleslaw inside of it) than the ones I generally see on the menu at other restaurants. Although the french fries were fairly good, I think they should accompany the fish burger without an additional cost, which was not the case. I think the burger alone costs $14.95, kinda higher than I would pay at other places for one, but for the freshness, my husband thought it was worth it. The decor of the restaurant is fairly unique with canoe style tables. I think the time it took from the order to the table was a bit long, but I guess that's when you know you're getting it fresh! read more

Great job, everyone! The staff is passionate about the menu, which enhances the overall experience. The fish tacos, fries, and calamari were all well-prepared and packed with flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portions. I appreciated the variety of sauces available and the fact that everything was already set up on the table, including water, glasses, and napkins. The staff even updated my order directly from the table when we decided to add more items--now that's excellent service! Great fish tacos and fish & chips. The coconut shrimp is a must try. Food: The food was fantastic. I got the fish & chips. It came with two types of fish: ono and mahi mahi. My favorite was the mahi mahi but my wife tried both and she loved the ono. We also got the coconut shrimp. It was sooooooo good. The sauce was great too. My wife got the fish tacos. She said they were awesome and flavorful. No alcohol so BYOB. Service: The staff is very friendly. They came by with apps when ready and our food appeared a few minutes later. If you're not sure what to try let me tell you to start with the fish tacos, they are fresh, tasty, and Super filling! The mango salsa that comes on top is outstanding, fresh sweet mangos and lots of cilantro, yum! Personally, my favorite thing is the Mahi Mahi cajun style. While my family and I were on vacation in Kihei, Maui, we came here for dinner one night. We each got 1 fish taco (one order comes with 2 fish tacos) and split an order of the calamari and chips. The fish tacos were AMAZING! A great combination of flavors, between the fish, coleslaw, mango salsa, tomatoes. sauce.... They were good-sized chunks of fish too. The tacos can be pretty messy, because there is a lot of stuff loaded onto the two tortillas. The calamari and chips were pretty good- it was strips of calamari steak, not the small pieces of calamari, and it came with a tartar dipping sauce. The fries were just okay. Still the best fish and chips for the price on the island. The quality is not the same since they started and open their second location. I would still recommend it however. I guess the problem is, I have been coming here since they opened originally and it's just not the same or even close to the same quality. Again, still worth the visit. I will be back, my opinion and again it's just an opinion is that if you want to be a corporate fast food store then they're one of the best. If you want to be a local place that has a " reputation that Maui represents" then paying more attention to details is probably something they need to do. I wish them all the best. read more

This is my first day in Maui and my dad took my family and I to Coconuts Fish Cafe. I ordered the calamari and chips, my sister ordered the original fish and chips and my parents ordered fish tacos. Since we all shared the meal, I was able to try a variety of dishes. The best one was the fish tacos. The mangoes on the top really made the taco original. The calamari wasn't really calamari, it was just octopus but it was still tasty. The fish and chips had only two fishes but they were big. Service: The service made you feel like you were home. They came to you to ask you how it was and cleaned up your table immediately. I would recommend this place any day. read more

Ok, this has got to be the most overrated restaurant that I have been to on Maui. Full disclosure, I am a vegetarian, but their food was terrible. Their idea of "veggie tacos" is a crumbled veggie patty in a tortilla with coleslaw. As tasty as that sounded, I opted for the Cesar salad, which was a bowl of romaine floating in a sea of Cesar dressing and cheese with a few croutons thrown in. The rest of my party had the fish tacos, which are way overpriced and not very good despite being "famous". I've never missed Wahoos Fish Tacos from back home as much as when I had lunch at Coconuts. There are some incredible places to eat in Kihei but this is not one of them. I've tried it twice since the reviews are so good. The service was nice but the food is dismal. The coconut shrimp was okay (the dipping sauce was good), the fish tacos had tasteless fish smothered in a mayo based sauce (yuk) and a lot of pineapple salsa. Today I tried the fish and chips which was probably the worst I've ever had: dry and tough. The fries were soggy but edible. My hubby had Mahi Mahi on a bun. He said the fish was okay but it was drenched in a mayo based sauce that almost ruined it. read more

We have been coming here 2-3 times a week since they opened (we live about 10 minutes away). Our running joke is that they won't be able to pay the light bill when we go on vacation (now that really is a joke because this place has a line out the door every day). We've tried just about everything, but now just order "the usual" - one order of fish tacos (two large fish tacos) and a basket of fries. Plenty of food for my wife and I. With a $5 tip, it comes out to a little over $20. Not bad. Local tip: To avoid the crowds go between 3 and 4. read more

I'd give it less than 1 star if I could, you charge a lot for FOOD POISONING!!!!! I'd like to think it was just a bad day for you, but no it wasn't. perhaps, you should use the pesticide for something more than a door stop out back. the Fish tacos are WAY BETTER at JAWS!!!!!!! and FYI if you don't have a liqor licence you can't legally allow ppl to bring in alcohol, and although the workers all seam nice the owners a real jerk, you mister can smile and lie, but some of us know your fish is frozen and that the things you say are assinine! read more

This is a fast and casual place to grab a meal. The food is fair quality for the price and convenience. The prices need to be updated on their outside and inside menus. The only updated menu I saw was their paper menu version found at the register counter inside. I've attached pictures to this post for reference. Note: Kamaole Center location requires around 10 steep stairs to get to the location with no elevator access as an option. Recommend visiting the Azeka Center location if you're looking to avoid stairs. read more

This restaurant was fantastic! The fish tacos were delicious, packed with fresh, flavorful fish, and the poke nachos were perfect for sharing, loaded with vibrant toppings and great textures.
