Shrimp wrapped in blanket
Jordan H.

Ate here on a late Monday night, there business hours said they closed at 830 but when we got there at roughly 730 we were told they were closing at 8 so we had to hurry up and order. Was a little taken back but didn't really have too much of an issue with that since I already look at the menu or places before go, so we had a good idea of what we wanted already. We got the Pad Se Ew combo noodles, Combo Thai fried rice, and Shrimp in a blanket. Everything came out nice and fresh and the portions were enough to share with another person. It was also nice that for the noodles they don't put spice in it already, they have sauces on the table for you to make it how ever spicy you want. Everything tasted great! I would love to come back and eat here earlier to really get a better feel for the place. But for them getting ready to close the food was good.

Crispy pork belly

Food wasn't all that great. Food was on time as promised. Papaya salad was bland, tasted like water and fish sauce only. Crispy pork belly under salted. Good portion of rice. The Chicken wings were only party wings and not full wings.

Chicken Fried Rice & Eggrolls

This place always hits the spot. My go to is the chicken fried rice and veggie egg rolls. The cashier was the nicest asking about my day but I didn't catch her name the service here is always great but today was just a take out day. The ambiance in the restaurant was amazing with music playing and they were packed!!

I came here for lunch with my mom and sister while visiting the food was really good. The service was nice. The food came relatively fast. I just wish I got my food a little bit more spicier, but it was all very good.

We tried to get a table at Mr pho but it was too long of a wait. I had heard good things about this place. Very clean restaurant. It's definitely more Thai than Vietnamese. My wife really enjoyed the food. I prefer Mr pho. It's definitely worth a try. The service was ok.

Came here for a late lunch and left feeling so Thai-food satisfied! The SO and I were in Merced for the day and ended up coming to Coconut Cafe about 45 minutes before they closed for siesta. We were seated immediately in a small booth. The inside looked like it was getting ready to turn down for their hour break between lunch and dinner (lights off, only natural light peeking through). There's a very cute flower wall for the aesthetic, but mostly it is very industrial with exposed ceilings and some really cool-looking steampunk-esque sconces dotting the walls. We ordered: Thai coffee - great pick-me-up; creamy and caffeinated as it should be Mango slush - tasted like artificial mango (per the SO) like powdery, we would probably skip this one next time Chicken satay - comes with 4 skewers and peanut sauce - pretty basic Chicken chow mein - SO said this tasted great Priew wahn with chicken - very saucy, would probably order this with a different protein next time Pad thai with chicken - SO loved the taste of this one and wished he had ordered this for himself. I loved the huge portion and that I could add my own amount of spice to it using the spices available at our booth. Roasted duck red curry - super flavorful and had plenty of fatty duck pieces. A tiny bit spicy, but so delicious Everything came out timely and piping hot. Service was basic but the ladies were nice. In the end, Coconut Cafe is definitely on my radar to return! I must try their other dishes!

Spring rolls

Best Thai food in Merced! The fried rice was delicious I got it with level 7 spice and it had a nice kick to it. If you like spice make sure to try the chili oil on the table. The spring rolls were also fresh and a good start to the meal.

The seating.

There was 9 of us. We ordered drunken noodles, panang chicken, crisp tofu, chicken pad Thai, pineapple rice, shrimp pad Thai. The heat was medium but the panang was a little hotter than we expected, but very nice. The noise level was almost nonexistent. Warning: they close at 7:30 p.m. Plenty of parking. We had a great time sharing plates and sharing conversation.

Chicken pad Thai spicy level 4

Pad Thai was so good! I got level 4 spicy and half way through it got spicy for me. It's probably a mild spicy I don't handle spice all that well but I still enjoyed my food. Definitely going back!!!

Pad See Ew

The food was so good I cannot even describe it. I got the pad see ew and cannot rate it higher. Service was excellent and they were very friendly and helpful even when full. Ambiance had nice music and it was not very loud within the restaurant with all the people.

"side salad" = 4 pieces of cucumber Honestly had me cracking up trying to decipher the meaning of a salad

I visited this restaurant before while visiting Merced, previously I tried their curry which was pretty good, This time around, I decided to go for their BBQ chicken, which the menu described w/ side of rice and "side salad". To say the least , I was quite disappointed. (Side salad was literally a slice of cucumber cut into 4 pieces) The chicken was not seasoned and to make things worse it tasted as it had just came right out of the fridge, and quickly heated up. The fridge taste on the chicken was disturbing and left me feeling quite unpleasant... I tried to add the chili sauce to cover the taste and there was a hair in the sauce . Ugh.

Pork egg rolls

Pho and egg rolls and chow mein and boba are great I wish they sold more boba that would be nice for drinks as a option but I did not see that on the menu u only on yelp or reviews but they are great

Upon arrival, the restaurant had plenty of space and a friendly, booming owner to welcome us. We…read moresat wherever we wanted, and menus were brought over quickly. We chose to order: - Imperial Rolls (chicken, shrimp, a lettuce, cucumber, cilantro, and bean sprouts in rice paper wrappers) with a delicious peanut-soy dipping sauce; - Tom Kha Kai soup (Coconut Chicken), Spicy 3 (1-10); - Chicken Pad Kee Maow (Drunken Noodles), Spicy 3 1-10). The food came out quickly and very fresh. The Imperial Rolls were tightly wrapped and stuffed well (albeit more like cigarillos than the larger egg roll size you'd expect). And they had 2 small shrimp in each, as opposed to the pictures in the menu which showed 3 shrimp lining the insides. Cuts happening everywhere. ‍ The Tom Kha Kai was well-blended (coconut and broth melded beautifully and creamy!), chicken, mushrooms, and white onion slices were perfectly cooked in a serving bowl and not the usual sterno-fueled soup contraption. It was mildly spicy and probably the best I've ever had! The Chicken Pad Kee Maow was different than others I've had. Sam Cafe adds in a little sweetness (Tamarind?), broccoli, chunks of cabbage (also slightly sweet), carrots, onions, red peppers, tomato chunks, and basil...along with the requisite large rice noodles and white meat chicken. Truly satisfying and delicious without feeling super oily, burnt, or lacking sauce. The entire meal was a great deal and an amazing find in the middle of the Central Valley! Next time I'm up this way, Sam Cafe is on my itinerary!

We were frequents of this place prior to it changing ownership and we absolutely loved this place…read more We finally decided to try it since the ownership change. Let me tell you-from the second you walk in being warmly greeted to the second you walk out with warm "thank you for coming in, hope to see you again soon" , it's amazing! The ambiance and decor is warm and bright. It's tropical feel with the mix of burnt salmon orange and cool pops of aqua are inviting. It's clean and modern. It's cozy and feels home like. The place was updated with new tables and chairs, nice navy blue table cloths, chairs and bench seating, a new check out counter was all tastefully done, the dishes are clean white "china" with gold trim. The glasses are like a dainty goblet and you feel like you are in an expensive, ritzy place. You can sit anywhere you'd like. You are greeted and conversed with, taking your drink order. The drinks are brought to you with a smile and you tell her what you'd like to eat. If there is something you aren't sure of they are excited to explain. The presentation is absolutely amazing! We eat with our eyes first and let me say that my eyes were very excited and happy! We were used to the cuisine we had before and so we didn't know what to expect. Our dishes didn't disappoint! I had my usual, Panang Curry with chicken and added mixed vegetables and sticky rice. My husband had BBQ Beef. My sons had the combination pho and chicken satay. From the first bite to the last it didn't disappoint. The Panang was gorgeous and flavorful! The veggies were perfect and I ate until I couldn't eat anymore! The BBQ Beef was tender and perfectly seasoned. My son loved the pho, it looked and smelled amazing and tasted so good! My younger son didn't waste any time with the chicken satay. It was tender and flavorful. We will definitely be back. It is STILL our favorite Thai restaurant. It's a gem in Merced.

I didn't know they had a second location because my friend took me to their first location once…read more The day I went they were closed so I drove to their second location and was not disappointed at all. The raw beef Larb was made perfectly in texture and flavor. The Pad Thai was also very good but I was most impressed with the duck curry bc they were very generous with the duck. Most Thai places would serve duck curry with very limited duck meat but this place made it worth the order. This will definitely be my go to place whenever I'm in or around Merced area.
