When we told the staff, no one apologized, acted concerned, or took responsibility. We didn't pay for that plate, obviously, but the lack of apology or customer service made the situation even worse. Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture, but trust me -- there was a roach in the food. This was one of the most unacceptable dining experiences I've ever had. Ordered the dinner #3. Received only 2 prawns. Asked for crispy noodles in the chow mein (my mistake, I should have asked to clarify). The crab puffs had no flavor and were over fried. You can taste the slight burnt taste on the wonton. The foiled wrapped chicken lacked flavor and was over cooked. Meat was tough and chewy. Paid $40 and was absolutely not worth it. Ok, so we went back since 2022 and have enjoyed several meals there, until tonight. My husband nailed it. Everything tasted the same. Orange chicken was the exception. Pot stickers were tough. Shrimp fried rice was not mixed well, a great deal of it was white rice, and I found three, count them, three shrimps in the pint of rice. The egg foo young tasted, well, odd. The fried prawns were overcooked, the entire dinner costing $83.00 went in to the garbage with the exception of the orange chicken. Sad. There was a new cook . . . maybe the difference? read more

Got seated immediately, not a large crowd but a few parties. Make sure to bring a jacket because it seemed like it was freezing inside. Order included: hot and sour soup, orange chicken, lunch special with sweet and sour chicken, lunch special with general chicken, lunch special with kung pao chicken, lunch special almond chicken, lunch special broccoli beef. Lunch specials came with the entree and chow mein (either regular noodles or could have them fried), wontons, and fried rice. Hot and Sour Soup: very hot when it came out (absolutely loved that!), spicy, and delicious Orange Chicken: nothing too fantastic about it, they had a great crisp to it which I haven't had from other Chinese food places, so I appreciated that. Sweet and Sour Chicken: nothing too fantastic. Wasn't that sweet or sour General Chicken: one of my favorites, had great flavor, had a similar taste to the orange chicken but with more flavor, and had a lot spicier to it (wasn't too spicy, definitely a milder spice flavor) Almond Chicken: nothing too fantastic, the chicken was cooked well and the sauce was good Broccoli Beef: great flavor, beef was cooked perfectly so it was nice and tender, and the sauce was delicious White rice was white rice, as good as you can expect it to be. Fried wontons: loved them! Had a great crunch with the addition of all the other food. Fried Rice: alright, not a big fan of fried rice in general, but were good. Chow Mein: absolutely fantastic! Loved it so much, could eat that as just a plain meal. Had great flavor and all the veggies were cut to a small perfect size to help add to the flavor. Definitely one of our favorite places to eat! Service was great, and our drinks didn't stay empty for long (it got busier as we were waiting so they did get empty at times, but nothing too bad considering the busyness of it.) Our waitress was great with making sure we didn't need anything and that we were happy. Can't wait to come here again! The food is absolutely delicious, would recommend going however keep in mind there weren't that many staff so the service is a bit slow but they were all really sweet and considerate, it's a very cozy ambience, would recommend going here during non rush hours! I'd heard of this little hole-in-the-wall recently and was hooked by the fact they made their own noodles, apparently being known for their crispy noodles and egg foo young, two of my favorite dishes when done right. Let me tell you, New China Cafe does both of them right, heck, more than right; they were both amazing! The small restaurant was doing good business at about 5 p.m. on a Friday; while not packed, it was always steady and always loaded with locals, a great sign in my book. The crispy noodles were tender and the perfect compliment to a little sauce or gravy that comes with their other dishes on the menu (like the Egg fou young) or the bean sprouts and meat if you get them as the noodles in your chow mein. They are beyond good; I think I could eat multiple orders all by myself. (10/10) The Egg Foo Young is also amazing. The order comes with three perfectly sized patties, and the veggies are chopped extremely small and cooked until soft, just the way I like them. It's very difficult to find Egg Foo Young prepared this way. If anyone is familiar with the old Wong's Takeout on Tully Road in Modesto, this is as close as you can get. (10/10) We also got wonton soup., which was simple with a delicious broth, bok choy, and pork wontons. As mentioned, the broth was delicious, light and flavorful. The wontons were really good, a little dense, but the meat in them was wonderful with a touch of sweetness. Really good. (10/10) The rest of our meal consisted of Chicken Chow Fun, Beef and Broccoli, Sweat and Sour Pork, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. None of these dishes were the best I've ever had, but they were all very good, with the Chow Fun, Shrimp, and Beef and Broccoli being a 7.5/10 and the Sweat and Sour Pork a 6/10 (it was a bit overcooked and therefore drier then it should have been. If it were cooked to a better temp, it would easily be a 7-8/10; the honey walnut shrimp would gain a point also for this reason. The service is VERY good! Everyone was very kind and helpful. It was a wonderful meal, and somewhere we'll definitely make the 45-minute drive for again. read more

It has been a family tradition on Christmas Eve for the past 5 years that we get take out from New China. It never disappoints. My granddaughters LOVE it and I agree. The House chow mein is absolutely delicious! Other family favorites include Mongolian Beef, Garlic chicken and orange chicken. Also the updated website now allows me to order and pay online which is very helpful. Great food and the family has always been friendly. Also very good prices and large portions. Well tonights chow mein was there, my God it was wet and wilting. Yes wilting noodles, with hard ham. gag double gag. Rice was wet to, don't know what they where thinking , wet rice. The cook must have received his or her cooking credentials from the cooking school of Helen Keller. Now the sweet and sour chicken, it was more like sweet and sour crust pieces, there might have been 3 or 4 pieces of chicken in the whole dish. I was Rolling around Merced in my Whip Black Beauty ,taking care of Business. I was a little hungry so I Checked my Yelp Mobile App and New China Café popped up .So I rolled there and I parked Black Beauty in their Private lot. I Ordered - Asparagus Beef , Pork Chow Mein HK Style , Pork Fried Rice and a Spring Roll. This Special came with a Bowl Of House Soup. I also Ordered Watermelon Juice as a Beverage and it was very refreshing. My Bowl Of House Soup came first . It was Egg Drop Tofu Soup . It was Hot and Seasoned perfectly. Very Tasty. Next out was the Fried Spring Roll and the Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce. The Spring Roll was fresh out the Fryer. It was Nice and Crispy . I enjoyed Munching out on it. Last but not Least was my Combination Plate. The Asparagus Beef was perfect . It was cooked in Black Bean Sauce. Yum Yum. The HK Style Pork Chow Mein and Pork Fried Rice was good too. I took my boyfriend to eat here for Father's Day lunch and we ordered the big meals so it came with a variety of different foods. One happen to be a wonton soup and it was good not to bad up until we seen a dead fly in the soup. I didn't fight I didn't argue I stopped eating ,paid and left and told my self I'll never return nor recommend anyone here. I really am disappointed about this review. I would always make it a point to go there and eat when in town. I ordered big orders this time and a lot for the family. Grant it They were very busy but that is no excuse for the food we got. Their Mongolian beef was horrible. It came in water instead a sauce and tasted old. The chicken chowmein was also in a soup like consistency. That is supposed to also come in a gravy. They sent the noodles separate which is a good thing. But they were uncooked. We ordered pot stickers they were barely cooked and sent no dipping sauce for them. I am so disappointed to have to give this review of my favorite Chinese restaurant. 2/17\21@ Guess what I called them so they could make it right. They hung up on me. Talked. Awful to me.
