Delicious food cooked to order! Customers are treated like special guests, and you can tell the staff know their regular visitors by name. I ordered a combination plate and the crab wonton, they were so yummy! I'll be back to try more menu items soon. Decades ago, when my grandparents were alive, they used to order dinner to go from New China Cafe so when I was in town, it was a blessing to stop by and have a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I am not sure if it is the same owners, that was a long time ago... but the food and customer service today are great. I love supporting local, family owned businesses as much as possible. read more

0 Stars - Absolutely Disgusting Experience I ordered the broccoli and beef combination at New China Cafe and found a roach in my food. Yes, an actual roach. When we told the staff, no one apologized, acted concerned, or took responsibility. We didn't pay for that plate, obviously, but the lack of apology or customer service made the situation even worse. Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture, but trust me -- there was a roach in the food. This was one of the most unacceptable dining experiences I've ever had. I will never be returning, and I strongly recommend others stay away. read more

They are cool people. Authentic Chinese food. Watching them on the woks is amazing. It's the only place I'll go to in Merced for Chinese food read more

Not bad at all. Just hate the parking lot. They give a lot of food. Service is good, food is good. Atmosphere ok.

Had a birthday lunch at work. Big order! They were so kind, food was delicious! They even gave us some free crab wontons. Great service New China! And great food! read more

Never coming back, we saw a roach crawling on the window frame and my husband killed it and gave to the waitress so she can throw it away. It spoiled our lunch. read more

Dissatisfied and disappointed. Decided to try this place out since my usual is closed as the owners are on holiday. Not only was it expensive but it was over cooked, dry and flavorless. Ordered the dinner #3. Received only 2 prawns. Asked for crispy noodles in the chow mein (my mistake, I should have asked to clarify). The crab puffs had no flavor and were over fried. You can taste the slight burnt taste on the wonton. The foiled wrapped chicken lacked flavor and was over cooked. Meat was tough and chewy. Paid $40 and was absolutely not worth it. Will not be back. read more

Horrible! It was some kind of nasty reheated food. I have been there 100's times since my childhood, but now it is garbage food, so bad I had to throw it away. That is rare for me to throw away a meal. That bad!! read more

Orange chicken lunch meal 11 and some change with tax. If you know me, you have to know I'm a Chinese food snob. Had a friend tell me this was his spot. I was a little leery about it, but who knows. I'm not hear for ambiance. So I'm not going there. The food, well I'm not gonna bag on them. Let me just say not a fan and I can't go back. Wasn't happy with any of it except for the portion. Nice people though. Sorry.... Try them for yourself. read more

New China Cafe - Orange chicken - Chinese Near Me - Merced, California

Ok, so we went back since 2022 and have enjoyed several meals there, until tonight. My husband nailed it. Everything tasted the same. Orange chicken was the exception. Pot stickers were tough. Shrimp fried rice was not mixed well, a great deal of it was white rice, and I found three, count them, three shrimps in the pint of rice. The egg foo young tasted, well, odd. The fried prawns were overcooked, the entire dinner costing $83.00 went in to the garbage with the exception of the orange chicken. Sad. There was a new cook . . . maybe the difference? read more

Finally found a good Chinese food restaurant! We got 3 a la cart items and that was enough for a family of 5 plus leftovers. The service was great for being a busy day and only 1 waitress. Will definitely keep coming back! read more

Got seated immediately, not a large crowd but a few parties. Make sure to bring a jacket because it seemed like it was freezing inside. Order included: hot and sour soup, orange chicken, lunch special with sweet and sour chicken, lunch special with general chicken, lunch special with kung pao chicken, lunch special almond chicken, lunch special broccoli beef. Lunch specials came with the entree and chow mein (either regular noodles or could have them fried), wontons, and fried rice. Hot and Sour Soup: very hot when it came out (absolutely loved that!), spicy, and delicious Orange Chicken: nothing too fantastic about it, they had a great crisp to it which I haven't had from other Chinese food places, so I appreciated that. Sweet and Sour Chicken: nothing too fantastic. Wasn't that sweet or sour General Chicken: one of my favorites, had great flavor, had a similar taste to the orange chicken but with more flavor, and had a lot spicier to it (wasn't too spicy, definitely a milder spice flavor) Almond Chicken: nothing too fantastic, the chicken was cooked well and the sauce was good Broccoli Beef: great flavor, beef was cooked perfectly so it was nice and tender, and the sauce was delicious White rice was white rice, as good as you can expect it to be. Fried wontons: loved them! Had a great crunch with the addition of all the other food. Fried Rice: alright, not a big fan of fried rice in general, but were good. Chow Mein: absolutely fantastic! Loved it so much, could eat that as just a plain meal. Had great flavor and all the veggies were cut to a small perfect size to help add to the flavor. Definitely one of our favorite places to eat! Service was great, and our drinks didn't stay empty for long (it got busier as we were waiting so they did get empty at times, but nothing too bad considering the busyness of it.) Our waitress was great with making sure we didn't need anything and that we were happy. Can't wait to come here again! Also absolutely loved that they have the lazy susans on the table, and would fill the soup bowls on it and then turn it around so we could all get it. read more

The food is absolutely delicious, would recommend going however keep in mind there weren't that many staff so the service is a bit slow but they were all really sweet and considerate, it's a very cozy ambience, would recommend going here during non rush hours! Will definitely come back! We got: - fried wontons (gave us a lot, did not skimp out at all) - potstickers (very well stuffed, definitely got our moneys worth) - orange chicken + fried rice + chow mein (well seasoned) - Thai tea - Iced tea read more

We purchased for chow mein and rice noodles not Mongolian beef had no taste at all. Chow mein is not that good either. Don't think that was the best was the right amount to very disappointing. I think we're gonna have to try another restaurant instead of this one. read more

Won't be ordering online no more. read more

I'd heard of this little hole-in-the-wall recently and was hooked by the fact they made their own noodles, apparently being known for their crispy noodles and egg foo young, two of my favorite dishes when done right. Let me tell you, New China Cafe does both of them right, heck, more than right; they were both amazing! The small restaurant was doing good business at about 5 p.m. on a Friday; while not packed, it was always steady and always loaded with locals, a great sign in my book. The crispy noodles were tender and the perfect compliment to a little sauce or gravy that comes with their other dishes on the menu (like the Egg fou young) or the bean sprouts and meat if you get them as the noodles in your chow mein. They are beyond good; I think I could eat multiple orders all by myself. (10/10) The Egg Foo Young is also amazing. The order comes with three perfectly sized patties, and the veggies are chopped extremely small and cooked until soft, just the way I like them. It's very difficult to find Egg Foo Young prepared this way. If anyone is familiar with the old Wong's Takeout on Tully Road in Modesto, this is as close as you can get. (10/10) We also got wonton soup., which was simple with a delicious broth, bok choy, and pork wontons. As mentioned, the broth was delicious, light and flavorful. The wontons were really good, a little dense, but the meat in them was wonderful with a touch of sweetness. Really good. (10/10) The rest of our meal consisted of Chicken Chow Fun, Beef and Broccoli, Sweat and Sour Pork, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. None of these dishes were the best I've ever had, but they were all very good, with the Chow Fun, Shrimp, and Beef and Broccoli being a 7.5/10 and the Sweat and Sour Pork a 6/10 (it was a bit overcooked and therefore drier then it should have been. If it were cooked to a better temp, it would easily be a 7-8/10; the honey walnut shrimp would gain a point also for this reason. The service is VERY good! Everyone was very kind and helpful. It was a wonderful meal, and somewhere we'll definitely make the 45-minute drive for again. read more

Sweet and Sour Tough Chicken" was it? weird corn flour like batter on butterflied Shrimp " Very exspenice" won't order ever again.

It really good and relatable they also have good customer service. But the four stars is because they do need to ad a little more chicken to count pow chicken. read more

It has been a family tradition on Christmas Eve for the past 5 years that we get take out from New China. It never disappoints. My granddaughters LOVE it and I agree. I have been coming here for years. This is honestly the best Chinese restaurant in town in my opinion. It's a little hole and wall kinda place but they are nice and the food is amazing. This place is always packed every time we go in. The have the best special fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, soft noodle pork chow mein , and beef broccoli . They always give you a lot of food and the prices he's doing are a little expensive but not to bad for what you get. read more

Went to new china today, I don't know what happened but it's not the same. Maybe they got a new cook or something but it wasn't good. I had the general chicken combo it didn't taste right, maybe different seasoning? It has been great forever, until now. Not even the tea was good. read more

This simple restaurant is in an old neighborhood on Main St in Merced. Pot stickers were crispy with a serious chili sauce on the side. Note that appetizers are a whole meal's worth of food. Chicken and broccoli was very tasty. The mens' room was nasty and smelled bad. Food, however, was excellent. Recommended to all. read more

I was Rolling around Merced in my Whip Black Beauty ,taking care of Business. I was a little hungry so I Checked my Yelp Mobile App and New China Café popped up .So I rolled there and I parked Black Beauty in their Private lot. I rolled in and was Greeted and Seated and Presented a Menu. I Perused the Menu. I could hear the Iron Chef in the Kitchen Woking the Orders of Food. They have a lot of Dinner Specials . I Ordered - Asparagus Beef , Pork Chow Mein HK Style , Pork Fried Rice and a Spring Roll. This Special came with a Bowl Of House Soup. I also Ordered Watermelon Juice as a Beverage and it was very refreshing. My Bowl Of House Soup came first . It was Egg Drop Tofu Soup . It was Hot and Seasoned perfectly. Very Tasty. Next out was the Fried Spring Roll and the Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce. The Spring Roll was fresh out the Fryer. It was Nice and Crispy . I enjoyed Munching out on it. Last but not Least was my Combination Plate. The Asparagus Beef was perfect . It was cooked in Black Bean Sauce. Yum Yum. The HK Style Pork Chow Mein and Pork Fried Rice was good too. The Booths at New China Café are Very Comfortable. My Waitress was very Attentive and quite Cute. I paid by Discover Card and rolled out. read more

Do not eat here, I repeat, DO NOT EAT HERE!!! You wanna stay away from this place like the plague. I stopped by for nostalgia reason. Came here all the time with the folks but let me tell ya it ain't the same. Waitress was rude, no refills at all. Told the waitress my chicken chow mein had no chicken that my pork fried rice had no pork and she said, "you see it's right there". Told her my crab puff camr out over cooked and she said "we change oil for new customers". I get better service at Mickey Ds. This place has fallen off. read more

Well let start by saying we should learn from our mistake, I thought so but I gave them another try. All around if you where stuck on a desert island and that's all you had to eat, it's not to bad with extra soy sauce and sweet-and-sour sauce and yes on everything. But to night, middle of the week Wednesday we gave it a try, just didn't feel like cooking. Well we learned our lesson, we will be cooking from now on. My wife bought the meals to go, rice , chow mein sweet-and-sour chicken. Well if your a Star Trek fan, then you know how disgusting Klingon meals are, there is one dish called Glock, live moving large wet worms. Well tonights chow mein was there, my God it was wet and wilting. Yes wilting noodles, with hard ham. gag double gag. Rice was wet to, don't know what they where thinking , wet rice. The cook must have received his or her cooking credentials from the cooking school of Helen Keller. Now the sweet and sour chicken, it was more like sweet and sour crust pieces, there might have been 3 or 4 pieces of chicken in the whole dish. Here that Helen Keller school again, they can't see what there serving or hear the people gagging. But rest a sure I won't be back, unless I end up on a Desert island. read more

One happen to be a wonton soup and it was good not to bad up until we seen a dead fly in the soup. I didn't fight I didn't argue I stopped eating ,paid and left and told my self I'll never return nor recommend anyone here.
