Beautiful space. Everything is so fun to look at in this restaurant. Came here for brunch with a friend and we got seated at a table for 2 right at the entrance. Great for people watching, but not a fan of all the traffic. Plus, our table was wobbly- and the restaurant had only been open about 3 weeks by the time we dined. Our server had to try and wedge napkins under multiple times. I don't usually point these out but if you're selling a certain vibe- you really should be delivering on it. The key lime margarita was a winner! Food itself was just ok. Bread platter was nice, especially the pain du chocolat- loved the apple butter. The carrot ginger soup really fell flat on the flavour for me. Beautiful presentation but such mild flavours. The smoked salmon tartar was ok, nothing special again for this price point. For the entree's: my friend got the salmon which was a little over cooked from the requested medium. I got the pulled pork which was actually probably the most flavourful dish we had. I will saw the saucework was pretty on point. It was a beautiful December weekend so we migrated to the patio for dessert. Nice and comfy space. Overall- don't think I'll be back in a hurry. Very trendy and beautiful decor at Cocody. We had great service and were seated promptly. I love that they had a sommelier on hand as well for a Thursday night. I honestly teetered though between a 3 and 4 star rating for Cocody due to the high prices not matching the level of taste and portion size with the food I'd expect. I also ordered a Whiskey Sour cocktail and it was so lemon forward I basically had to force it down to not waste it. The salmon and tartare duo was tasty, the burrata stuffed tomato with basil pesto was perfectly balanced in flavor and the cheese plate was very good also (albeit not for the price of it though). The Cod Filet was delicious and the Linz Beef Tenderloin with potatoes was also good, just not exceptional for a $64 steak. A really incredible dining experience. The decor is stunning and upscale. The food is delicious with beautiful presentation, artfully plated. The drinks were on point. And the kitchen is the most impressive and cleanest I've ever seen! They know what they're doing. We went there on a quiet Thursday night to celebrate our son's graduation, and were fortunate enough to have the chef's table. Sylvain was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Very nice to have him actively stopping by to check on the guests, and making everyone feel special. Chef Denis was also incredibly welcoming and friendly. Truly created a special evening for everyone. Our waiter (Josiah) was also very friendly and a total pro interacting with our group and even the children in our party. Across our party we tried many of the appetizers. Everyone loved the escargot, burrata salad, ALL the lolly's!, and the scallops. People in our group had the sea bass, lobster risotto, beef Wellington, beef tenderloin, and cocody fried potatoes. All amazing. And for dessert, Mango Carpaccio, and Pistachio Liegeois dessert were out of this world! We are planning to return soon to try so many of the great items on the menu. read more

We had the mini baguettes and the Foie Gras to start. The pear with the foie gras really paired well together. . I had the Linz Heritage Tenderloin. It was cooked to perfect and the Au Jus it came with was divine. I wanted to bathe in that sauce. My friend got the Lamb which she said was supuerb. Cocody potatoes were very light and the serving size was everything was perfect. You do order your appetizers and entrees together and they space them out for you. Cocody is a beautiful restaurant with great service--from the hostess to our server, the service was really good. However, the food is just fine and really not worth it for the high prices. Here's what we tried (we shared everything at the table): -Scallops: I liked the scallops, probably my favorite part of the meal. Great flavor, perfectly seared. -Bread service mini baguettes: The baguettes (and the servings of olive oil and tapenade that come with the baguettes) really are comically mini. While good, the bread service wasn't worth it. -Mushroom risotto: I liked the mushrooms just fine, but the risotto itself was watery/undercooked. Again, the restaurant is beautiful, and the service was very upscale--but I don't know that I'd visit again for the food. For a special occasion, I'd spend that money somewhere else. read more

I came here for a friend's birthday, and this place has been on my list since I requested the area. Some of our party (arrived on time) and they were seated so we immediately went and sat with them. From there we were asked still or sparkling and our water glasses were full. One waiter (Bob) came and provided us menus. Waited almost 10 minutes before they returned to take our drink orders. We provided our drink orders, and for an additional 10-12 minutes, some drinks (half the table 3/6) came out, and half the table was told the restaurant was out of champagne, so they were unable to provide mimosa flights. They offered to make it with rose instead. This is shocking because to offer brunch and run out of champagne and not even offer prosecco is interesting. We were finally able to order after about 40 minutes of being sat. I will note our servers changed, and we were confused about who our actual server was. The person taking the orders was unattentive and had us continue to repeat our orders. The person who continued to serve us did not take our orders. The staff were nice, I will give them that but understand our confusion as nothing was steady. The brunch food was mediocre, subpar, to be honest. For the price point, the taste lacks, and you will leave hungry. Our bread basket came after our entrees were served. They were kind to comp our bread basket because it came out so late. And to make up for the lack of quality of service, we were offered dessert. I do appreciate the restaurant's efforts to correct its shortcomings. It is felt like a series of unfortunate events. Management did share brunch is new and they are working out the kinks. The food missed the mark and service as well resulting in an overall poor experience. Some dishes were outstanding: the Seasonal Wild Mushroom Veloute was garlicky, luxurious, and oh so comforting. We also enjoyed the Mini Baguettes, unapologetically dipping warm, torn bread flesh in the Veloute. Divine! The Fresh Bucatini with Clams was rustic yet elegant, savory and satisfying. Other dishes we tried: Burrata-stuffed Heirloom Tomato (underwhelming... I missed the kiss of balsamic typical of Caprese,) and Cocody Potatoes (all agreed they were "just ok.") We also had the Atlantic Cod Filet and the Creamy Acquerello Risotto, both of which were delicious but not standouts. Desserts were stunning to look at. Valrhona Chocolate Royal was a rich, chocolate molten cake made amazing by the Baileys Ice Cream. We came here for a brunch with a party of two. Food: nothing special, the chef spent 1/2 of his time to decorate the food, components were weird and didn't go well with each other. I rather the food taste good first before worry about the presentations. Business lunch was a joke. They used cafeteria tray to present their small portions on it. Should have called this cafeteria lunch special instead. Some of their food is warm, some taste cold (and I don't count the salad here). Desert: tastes plain, components don't mix well. Drinks: everyone raved about the matcha martini, honestly I barely taste the matcha. It tastes ok but not as good as other drinks I had elsewhere. Atmosphere: I love their interior decorations and designs. However, with the space design for the booths and all. I could hear other people conversations which is very unpleasant. Service: given such a fancy environment, the waiter and waitress couldn't introduce themselves. I noticed there are 4+ people came by my table getting my order. This format is for non formal restaurant. The server who placed the food down couldn't take the time to convey what food they placed on the table is which is disappointing. Hostess: host was nice and accommodating. However, this restaurant front double door felt like 100 pounds lift. They couldn't help the guests who struggle to open this heavy door. Valet: small area for parking, but it's nice they provided complimentary valet. I'm giving 2 stars for the super sweet valet gentlemen. I was torn between giving 3 or 2 stars. Honestly the service we received killed it for us. We had a large reservation for a group of us. The waiter was rude and made rude comments. I had to ask for a straw several separate times and he said to me "you asked me three times I'll get it when I take everyone's order" about 15 minutes had gone by since the first time he asked to begin with. It doesn't take 15 minutes and a smart comment to get a straw. His attitude got better through the evening. But a few other comments had been made to our guests that were unnecessary. The food was good the scallops were phenomenal! The Lamb is good the gnocchi not so much it was fairly dry. Are mini baguettes were hard as a rock. The drinks were extremely strong and not well balanced in my opinion, several members of our group didn't like the drinks because the flavors just didn't go together well. It was an awkward experience that ended ok. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, this is not the place, which is very unfortunate because I felt the food was beautifully plated and equally delicious. Unfortunately, the quality of service did not match the excellence of the food. We encountered issues with inattentiveness from our waiter, leading to long wait times and mistakes in our order. Furthermore, the situation escalated when a correction was requested, and the food runner yelled at my friend. It was very awkward and uncomfortable, seeing as how we were there celebrating her birthday. Eventually, a manager intervened and the order was corrected, and a new waiter took over towards the end who was kind and attentive. The manager comped our drinks and my friend's steak. The experience is still leaving a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I hope they do what they say they will and take some corrective actions with the two waitstaff members. If you're going to spend that kind of money, there are a lot of equally nice restaurants in Houston that will treat you better. read more

My friends and I booked this place for a friend's special 40th birthday. Our reservation was originally at 7:30 pm, and we postponed it to 9:15 pm. When we got there at 8:55PM, a friend of mine went to check in. They said the table isn't ready as people are somehow staying longer tonight than usual. We were constantly checking in on them to see what's the status was. We noticed that they opened the doors for every guest that entered and existed. When one of us entered or exited, no one opened the door for us. They would only look at us and turn around. There were 2-3 hostesses, and not a single person came out to give us an update on our waiting status. Every 15-20 minutes, we would come in to check up when our table will be ready, and yet, they still gave us the same response. They all saw where we were waiting at, and yet, no one cared to at least let us know the waiting situation. When we called to postpone our reservation, and if they didn't have any availability during that time, they should've told us. Instead, they confirmed our new time, and when we got there, we had to wait over an hour, and yet still no status when our table would be ready. This place is very racist and it seems they choose who they want to open the door to. Everything we approach the door, we had to open it ourselves. Versus others, they haven't even reached the door, they door was already opened for them. This happened many times, not just once. A friend of mine and I both tested this, and sure enough, we were right. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. They should treat and be attentive to all their customers. Doesn't matter how good their food taste (can't tell, never tasted it), but no one deserved to be treated like that. If I could give this restaurant a negative (-) stars... The scallops were great and hands down the greatest thing. The Cocody potatoes were not seasoned & the mayonnaise could introduce some sodium, but dipping for flavor should not be assumed. A stunning night out at the latest lavish playground for Houston's gorgeous and glamorous...and I guess they were feeling the holiday spirit, because they even let me sneak in. Cocody (1971 W. Gray), named after a tony district of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (birthplace of one of the owners), just opened in Houston's own Cocody--River Oaks--and judging from last night's buzz, you should expect to hear plenty about this place. Chefs Lionel Debon and David Denis used to run the show at Le Mistral in the Energy Corridor, and they have created a menu that seamlessly blends France with the Gulf Coast. The setting includes soothing palettes of pink, peach, and gold and a ceiling peppered with hundreds of brightly-lit upturned crystal champagne glasses. Playful artwork abounds, including a whimsical take on the Mona Lisa. We enjoyed the food, but I will say right awat that the highlight of our evening was the amazing service from Georgina and Phillip. Without ever being intrusive, they steered us through our evening the way the best tour guides do--the rare ones who seem sincerely in tune with delivering the best experience to you and providing you with memories as magical as the sites seen. There were some timing hiccups not at all a surprise in a new place but that were so clearly not the fault of our servers, and we were never bothered in the least, simply enjoying the electric atmosphere and endless people-watching and sips from our glorious Left Bank Bordeaux. But because he felt we had waited too long for entrees, Phillip insisted on bringing us a couple glasses of bubbles, and Georgina later comped us a dessert for the same reason. A manager came by to apologize, too. We don't tend to say no to largesse, but the apologies and comps were unnecessary (though appreciated!)--we were enjoying every second of our evening together. My husband's tolerance and cravings for unctuous foods is far greater than mine, and he was ready to start riding like Debra Winger on the mechanical bull in Urban Cowboy the fat thick slice of pan-seared Hudson Valley foie gras set atop sweetened poached pears and a gingerbread crouton, doused in a dense black currant coulis. An organic beets rosace salad, sprinkled with Montchevre cheese and a hazelnut vinaigrette was as alluring to view as to taste. For entrees, I chose a slow baked Chilean sea bass in a saffron rouille, and my husband wolfed down a Linz Heritage center cut beef tenderloin in a Selim pepper au jus. For our comped dessert, we settled on one suggested by both our wonderful servers--a house-made Italian pistachio ice cream set upon a tart meringue disc. The superb service made this meal over the top--I'm sure all the staff is superb, but I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than Georgina and Phillip.
