Only to sit in the chair have the tech start my nails and stop for 7 minutes to take care of checking in guests and ringing up completed customers!!!! It us not the first time but it is the last time!!! I got up mid service and walked out!! Thus place uses to be good unfortunately the new manager has no idea what is going on!!! Honestly I've been going here for 4 years. Initially great job and I've reviewed saying so. Never had a problem with no chip or dip on my nails. Ever. All of the staff was great doing nails. Now it's TERRIBLE. Thursday: i got my nails done Thursday. No chip. IT CHIPPED THE NEXT DAY as in the entire no chip just came off all at once. Also the others started to come up too. Saturday: cause i worked Friday. Fine i went back and was like i need them done and done correctly it's been less than 24 hours The "manager" fixed only the ones she felt needed to be fixed and at the end stated "i should have just done all of them well come back and we will do them again if they chip". Tuesday: (today) Well all i did was vacuum one thing on my floor and it happened again to a different nail the "manager" did. Sick of this place. I went in for a Gel-X manicure and a basic pedicure. From the start, she cut my natural nails way too short, to the point where they hurt, and didn't even file the edges before applying the Gel-X nails. While filing the Gel-X nails, she scuffed some of my cuticles and made one bleed. Besides the confusion over the base color I wanted, the actual design turned out ok. However, once I got home, I had to trim the nails down because my natural nails were so short that they were pulling away from the nail bed, causing extreme pain. During the heel buffing on my pedicure, she repeatedly hit the back of my ankle, eventually scuffing the skin open. She also used a wrapper, an actual piece of trash, to apply the gel to my feet.. and the cuticle cutters were not clean. Overall, it was a terrible experience that took much longer than any other visit to a nail salon, and I will not be returning. read more

I thought I found a good nail salon when I came here because everything looked new and clean. The service itself is not good at all (at least for me). I went in a week ago and asked the tech if he can add tips to my nails because they break easily with no chip & they were already cracked and he said no. I honestly think he didn't understand me and just did his own thing. He pinched my skin so bad I started bleeding and he kept going without saying anything. Then he just dabbed some glue on my nail that was completely cracked and I told him multiple times it won't hold with the glue. He ignored me and still did it and no joke the very next day my nail completely cracked. I'm sorry but I'm not spending $45 for nothing. Not happy with my service. I got a pedicure that was not worth the $32 for it. It looked like my 9 year old did it. Also, i paid $73 for a full set and i don't understand why. Their menu says $55 for full set but they said because of the almond shape and pink French tip? So confusing. It's a beautiful shop but the prices are not worth it. I tried to go to my original nail salon for a full set, and they were all booked for a few hours, so I decided to try somewhere new. I get square shape nails and they came out completely straight and even, which is harder to do than you would think. They also have a good selection of colors for non-chip sets. I was told there was a new client discount but I was not offered it when I came in. Prices are not posted anywhere & there's a reason.. they're outrageous!! I paid $109 BEFORE the tip. Which they ask you to pay in cash. I couldn't understand a word my nail tech said & they were all talking to each other very loudly in another language. The music is hard core techno. So not relaxing at all. The nails look nice but I was given a finish that I wasn't told if there was an upcharge.. $49 for a pedicure & $60 for a French manicure. On a journey to find my go-to nail salon and today we've arrived at Coco Nail Bar. On their website, you can make an appointment. I knew Friday afternoon and the weekend would be busy so I opted to go on a Monday. They were able to get my in a chair within five minutes of walking in. As I was looking over their wall of colors, they hand you a booklet for their pedicure options (express to the fancy stuff) and another for manicures depending on your service (dip VS gel). The area was clean. Staff was kind. Pedicure was great and fast (I got the express). Even though it was the express, their work and attention to detail was impeccable. They staff also jumped in to help where they can. I had a lady start my dip in the pedicure chair. I was in and out in 1 hour. They don't play around here with productivity. There was a sign that said gratuity in cash only however if you really wanted to pay tip with your card, you could. Had Apple Pay as well. Will be coming back to try their gel. read more

When I asked if they could do my fill while I was getting my pedi, they were so accommodating. Nance did my pedi and she was so gentle and even put one of those warm towels on my knee. I hate to give local businesses crappy reviews and usually if I have a bad experience I don't write a Yelp review at all but this place I need to call out. Disclaimer: I am from Houston where my aunts own nail salons and that's where I usually go to get my nails done but I came to Chicago to visit my boyfriend's family and had to get my nails done since I was flying out to Italy the following day. I called on a Sunday at 4 pm to see whether I can get a full solar nail set as well as a pedicure. The receptionist told me I can only get either a manicure OR a pedicure since they close at 5 pm. No full sets since they were about to close? No big deal. I should've came earlier. It was a 30 minute wait before I was helped but I was able to get them to do a full set on me (no pedicures though due to time). Good start so far. But things went downhill from there. The man who did my nails did an ok job. They were a little crooked especially my pinky. I also asked for a square oval/ squoval nail and said he'd never heard of such a thing and decided to give me oval nails. He was definitely rushing through to try to get home. How do I know? He kept looking at the clock, asking his colleague next to him what time it is, and even calling his significant other midsession to put his clothes in the dryer. The worst part of the experience was how much trash talking him and his colleague next to him were doing throughout the entire session. There was a customer next to me and apparently we are both nail biters and were both getting full sets. They kept talking about how crappy our nails are and how our sets will fall off in a few days and how they know we will come back complaining and demanding a refund. Then the guy next to us said he was going to convince her to have her cuticles cut so he can charge her extra. Then my nail tech was debating how much he should charge me. (This is one thing why I hate nail salons sometimes. Prices get a little sketchy and you don't know where they came up with the numbers.) This was all spoken in Vietnamese. You know how there's always these jokes about how the nail techs are smiling at you while talking about you? Well it's 100% true at this place. I told one of them at the beginning that I speak Vietnamese but that must've slipped his mind since he was in such a hurry to go home. Well he ended up charging me $55 for a full set. Not that expensive but definitely on the higher end compared to other places around the area. The interior is really nice but the type of people working in there is questionable. I was incredibly disappointed with my pedicure. I had an appointment, but waited almost 30 minutes before I got to a chair. At the chair, I essentially got a cupful of lukewarm water poured over my feet, and the I sat, sat, and sat. I finally had to ask someone when I would be seen, and a tech began working on me. No apology, not even a hello. I understand I only got the essential pedicure, but the whole pedicure took 20 minutes from start to finish. Unsurprisingly, the polish was applied terribly. It was clear she couldn't have cared less. Seriously, one of my toes wasn't even polished at all. But, my experience was so awful, I just wanted to leave. I will not be returning. Came in with a friend for pedicures, we called before hand and made an appointment and we still had to wait. We were given a pedicure book. Which were different options for pedicures and all extremely over priced. When there was no difference than a regular pedicure. The service seemed VERY rushed. Since each pedicure had a time attached to it my friend and I timed our pedi's. Which did prove to run short than what was listed. And at the time of payment the techs take your card and ask you for tips instead of being able to write it down like any other place normally would. DIRTY TOOLS AND STUCK UP MANGER I went to Coco for a gel set three weeks ago to the date. My first set was done greatly the lady was nice and took her time. Prom was coming up so i went to for a color change, quickly my experience was horrible. The manger was very pushy into me getting a fill in, which i couldn't afford not caring HE CONTINUED to make comments on my POOR CHOICE with wanting just color change. during doing my nails he would make comments about his skills being so great and telling me I HAD TO PROMISE to leave a review i felt he DIDNT deserve any type of review after his behavior towards me. Fast forwarding to now i noticed the day after prom my middle finger swelled up and turned green on the side. Calvin is the king of nails! So happy I found him again :) no ones ever done as a job good job like Calvin. These are my all time favorite nails I ever had. I definitely recommend him over anyone or anyplace! The only thing i could recommend for COCO would be to include the cuticles in a full set. I think charging extra for cuticles is extremely ridiculous, especially because the cuticles and kinda make or break the way ur nails look (especially if ur someone with bad cuticles). I think if they did this, it would set them apart drastically from other nail places. Especially for us girls who spend so much, I think for $85 your cuticles should be included, but that's clearly the salons decision. Used to love Coco but their quality has really gone down. My usual nail salon/tech was booked so I decided to try the new commons location. I went in 2.5 weeks ago for a full set and pedicure. Originally I scheduled with Sara but ended up with Jon and another guy. The only good experience I had this visit was the pedicure with Jon. He really took his time and did a great job. The other guy whose name I didn't catch was another story. I asked for a simple French tip with some sparkle underneath. Starting off he already seemed annoyed and in a rush. When prepping my nails his drill was turned up so high the heat burned my nail. The nail tips are too big and the acrylic and glitter are chunky. He didn't file it down properly and there's bumps all over. I asked for a pink nude base to match my skin tone and instead he did pale pink. The french is poorly done, I told him if he couldn't it was fine but he insisted. While lifting is normal, this much lift is crazy. Apart from that another customer came to complain about the nails he did and he was openly talking bad about the customer to me. To my face he said "I'm never fucking doing her nails again". After hearing that I didn't even want him to redo my nails I just wanted to leave. He took 2.5 hrs because he kept stopping to overhear other conversations. While yes it has been 2 weeks, I've never had them look this bad after that amount of time. These nails are the ugliest set I've ever had. I always wait until my nails start to deteriorate to give a full review so you know how long they last. I got the no chip mani and the milk and honey no chip pedi and the nails have lasted just over two weeks. Do NOT be shy if there is a little dent in your nail from the dryer tapping your nail say something so they can fix it right away otherwise it ruins the seal and integrity of the polish and won't last as long. They did a great job shaping my nails I didn't even have to ask them to fix any of them. Toes are still good with polish even after wearing closed toe heels a couple times. The staff were kind and I love their minimal modern black and white design/ decor inside. Was helped right away with my fiancé on a busy Saturday since they have a large interior space and plenty of staff. The pedi bowls for your feet are so cool with a holographic look. They have cute menus for you to pick your package or nail colors from, which to me is a great touch and makes the place more high end. The pedicure itself was nice and the nail tech did a great job with the massage and not rushing the pedicure and allowing me to soak/relax. Now for the improvements they could make or a heads up if you are trying to be cautious with COVID: I didn't see my fiance's chair get wiped down, but mine was sanitized awhile after I started getting my nails done -again note they were busy. The other pictures you see of the setup of the seating keep in mind you sit right next to another person when getting your nails done. Granted everyone is wearing a mask, but this personally wasn't ideal to me. I get from a business perspective alternatives are difficult because if they spread out the tables then there is less space between the pedicure chairs. If the close every other chair then there is a longer wait and less efficiency. The floors under my nail desk were disgusting and had nail clippings, dust/dirt etc. They definitely need to clean up in between customers more. They didn't really give me much massaging or oils or anything special for my manicure. Overall it was a good experience, I will be back since it is close to home. I want to try a design next and will be happy to see the bar back open in the future so I can have a glass of champagne/wine and really relax read more
