I've been a loyal client at the Algonquin Sugaring NYC location for almost two years, and I've…read morealways had good experiences, including two previous 5 star review.. until this week. This was the worst service I've had since my early days at European Wax Center, and I actually left my appointment crying. I had booked my usual Brazilian + butt cheeks. Last week, I called to reschedule and learned--only because I called--that the waxer I've been seeing for the past year was no longer there. Management never informed me ahead of time, which I found unprofessional. When I rescheduled, I was told there were two other stylists available, so I agreed to book with anyone. When I arrived, I found out mid-appointment that my waxer had only started a week ago. She was very nice personality-wise, but the process was extremely messy--sugar in my hair, on my legs, all over the table, and on my clothes. She went over the same area 10-15 times, causing intense pain and burning. The service, which normally takes 20-30 minutes, dragged out to an hour and 15 minutes. I left sticky, covered in powder, and feeling awful. When I got home, I discovered I was bleeding, raw, and still had numerous hairs left. I immediately called and went back today for a "retouch" with Kristin. She was kind, professional, and quick--exactly how it should have been the first time. At checkout, I brought up the situation and requested a refund for yesterday's service. Unfortunately, the front desk employee was too new to process it, so I was told management would call me. As of now, I'm still waiting for that call. I used to love coming here, but all the skilled waxers seem to be gone, and management's lack of communication and follow-up is disappointing. For such a personal and vulnerable service, clients deserve to feel safe, respected, and cared for. Sadly, I can no longer recommend this location.

Look and feel your best; this is how I feel every time I leave Face Value Beauty Bar for my waxing…read moreand skin care needs. I've been seeing Julie for a few years now and she's always given the best-in-class service leaving me looking and feeling great. Aside from the high-quality job her prices are super competitive compared to big brand names and commercial enterprises who offer the same within the area and charge twice as much and take twice as long. That being said, it's a no-brainer to go with Julie as her skill is in a top-tier class all on its own. Aside from this, Julie is very personable, and it feels like interacting with a friend for a more humanized experience vs something transactional as just another customer/client. This adds a layer of personal touch thus she makes you feel understood with a more consultative approach to understanding human relations as much as she knows the technicalities of her services and skin care itself. Which is a great foundation of Face Value Beauty Bar being so successful. All in all, if you're reading this then without a doubt, I highly recommend Julie for your waxing and skin care needs. You'll love the outcome of the services you get, how you look, and how you feel! I 100% guarantee it! I got there at 855 am appointment was at 9 am I wasn't greeted, everyone seemed like they were annoyed to be there, not friendly whatsoever. At first the pedicure was going great, really great massage but the service provider was taking her overly sweet time, it was hard to relax when I was sitting in the chair for almost three hours. I had mentioned at 11 am (being in the chair for over two hours at this point) that i had to leave within the next 15 minutes and she responded we were almost done. Well it was 1135 am and she was no where near done and I missed out on the paraffin wax because I had another appointment to get to. She globbed on cuticle oil all over my calves and now was rushing to get me out of the chair, the front desk person didn't offer me any discount even though I didn't get the whole service I paid for $100+ Toes came super cute not going to lie about that, but not even three days later one toe chipped and another polish fell off completely. I've never had no chip act like this usually lasts me for months. I didn't check out until 1145, being in the chair for almost three hours when the time for service said 60 minutes was obnoxious and my relaxing time was over very quickly, if you have plans cancel them and take off work to get services done here because that is waaay too long. I did end up getting my toes fixed and I maybe will try another location in the future but this location was not the vibe!

Since they're by appointment when I arrived the parking lot was empty but I only waited a short time. I did arrive quite a bit early and saw that they had a break in times between sets of appointments. When I arrived I was greeted by the owner and her adorable daughter! She made the wax go by so quick and as painless as possible! There was the option to wear disposable underwear and a robe. The whole experience was wonderful and she was so knowledgeable about the products she was using. It was nice to know that she respected that some people aren't completely comfortable changing in front of strangers or being exposed. Since I've been waxed plenty of times this wasn't the case but it's a good thing for first timers. Overall I'll definitely come back and try a Brazilian next time with how comfortable I felt with her! Side note: with everywhere in Algonquin being under construction at the moment I couldn't enter through the front door and I came in through the back! Obviously nothing they could control, but just as a heads up!

It is in a quiet room with one other pedicure chair, with low lighting, soft music playing, and fresh smelling aromatherapy. I'm not a huge fan of scents but they used real essential oils (not fragrance), and they were so calming and pleasant. The pedicure starts with a brief foot soak in a warm and relaxing seat. Once you soak for a few minutes they give you a blanket, a warm neck wrap, and recline the chair to zero gravity, and give you an eye cover. I genuinely fell asleep as soon as she started to massage my feet. The experience was 10/10, and I will definitely be recommending this place to everyone! Thanks Sam for an amazing pedicure.
