I've been a loyal client at the Algonquin Sugaring NYC location for almost two years, and I've…read morealways had good experiences, including two previous 5 star review.. until this week. This was the worst service I've had since my early days at European Wax Center, and I actually left my appointment crying. I had booked my usual Brazilian + butt cheeks. Last week, I called to reschedule and learned--only because I called--that the waxer I've been seeing for the past year was no longer there. Management never informed me ahead of time, which I found unprofessional. When I rescheduled, I was told there were two other stylists available, so I agreed to book with anyone. When I arrived, I found out mid-appointment that my waxer had only started a week ago. She was very nice personality-wise, but the process was extremely messy--sugar in my hair, on my legs, all over the table, and on my clothes. She went over the same area 10-15 times, causing intense pain and burning. The service, which normally takes 20-30 minutes, dragged out to an hour and 15 minutes. I left sticky, covered in powder, and feeling awful. When I got home, I discovered I was bleeding, raw, and still had numerous hairs left. I immediately called and went back today for a "retouch" with Kristin. She was kind, professional, and quick--exactly how it should have been the first time. At checkout, I brought up the situation and requested a refund for yesterday's service. Unfortunately, the front desk employee was too new to process it, so I was told management would call me. As of now, I'm still waiting for that call. I used to love coming here, but all the skilled waxers seem to be gone, and management's lack of communication and follow-up is disappointing. For such a personal and vulnerable service, clients deserve to feel safe, respected, and cared for. Sadly, I can no longer recommend this location.

Look and feel your best; this is how I feel every time I leave Face Value Beauty Bar for my waxing…read moreand skin care needs. I've been seeing Julie for a few years now and she's always given the best-in-class service leaving me looking and feeling great. Aside from the high-quality job her prices are super competitive compared to big brand names and commercial enterprises who offer the same within the area and charge twice as much and take twice as long. That being said, it's a no-brainer to go with Julie as her skill is in a top-tier class all on its own. Aside from this, Julie is very personable, and it feels like interacting with a friend for a more humanized experience vs something transactional as just another customer/client. This adds a layer of personal touch thus she makes you feel understood with a more consultative approach to understanding human relations as much as she knows the technicalities of her services and skin care itself. Which is a great foundation of Face Value Beauty Bar being so successful. All in all, if you're reading this then without a doubt, I highly recommend Julie for your waxing and skin care needs. You'll love the outcome of the services you get, how you look, and how you feel! I 100% guarantee it! When it came time for them to pay, one of theirs was more money than quoted and more than her friend's, even though they did the exact same thing. She asked them why it was more expensive, and they didn't give her any answer at first, then said it was because her shape was "round" instead of "Square". I've had my nails done for years at different salons and have never been upcharged for the shape. I don't like places that try to take advantage of teens just because of their age. They were also very poorly done and look like she did them by hand. I can't justify sending her and her friends back there ever.

The spa pedicure with Sam B. Was amazing today! I was able to book online for the same day, and she…read moreeven got me in a tad early. First of all this pedicure is truly a spa experience. It is in a quiet room with one other pedicure chair, with low lighting, soft music playing, and fresh smelling aromatherapy. I'm not a huge fan of scents but they used real essential oils (not fragrance), and they were so calming and pleasant. The pedicure starts with a brief foot soak in a warm and relaxing seat. Once you soak for a few minutes they give you a blanket, a warm neck wrap, and recline the chair to zero gravity, and give you an eye cover. I genuinely fell asleep as soon as she started to massage my feet. The experience was 10/10, and I will definitely be recommending this place to everyone! Thanks Sam for an amazing pedicure.

She really wanted a massage but was nervous- so I figured being in the same room would help. She has Jessica who was so sweet and explained everything to her. I've had a lot of massages in a lot of fancy places, but this massage was probably the best one I've ever had. I came back for a hydra facial and saw Jessica, again. She did such an amazing job, I ended up getting a massage package deal. I feel like that one facial did wonders. I don't plan ever going anywhere else.

I was told it could be done, but it was not done. I also did not care for the quality of the products used on my hair, and the end result was not at all what I asked for. I also did not appreciate this individual giving their personal opinions in conversation about topics which had no bearing on the issue at hand, namely, things to do with hair, hair maintenance, hair products, and my own hair. Being in a hair salon, I expected light and general conversation, about topics that were mainly hair-related. It was not. I was not pleased with the cut or the service. Thankfully I was able to get my hair fixed at a different salon. I cannot in good conscience recommend this salon, nor would I ever return there.
