Best brunch I've had in nyc so far. Absolutely loved the corn pancake. Was so delicious and even though it was swimming in syrup it wasn't too sweet. The hibiscus quesadilla was kind of crumbly and didn't quite have the hibiscus flavor I expected but I still really liked it. The hot chocolate was very delicious as well. Unfortunately the service wasn't very good. The girl keeping track of guests didnt make a list so we got skipped over which was frustrating. There was definitely confusion as more and more people crowded the covered area and outside. Would definitely going earlier as the line got super long on a Saturday. read more

We got here at 11am on a Sunday and waited about an hour and a half for a table. The hostesses were super nice and great about keeping everyone updated on the wait, but it was inconvenient being unable to leave (they took down only names, not phone numbers, and you had to be right there when it was called). They did offer menus for people to order coffee while they waited. The food and drinks come out as they're made, not all at once, so be prepared to wait for your dish or snag a bite from a willing friend. SKIP: Einspänner- aggressively unsweet, which kind of threw me. The coffee was rich in flavor and consistency, and combined with the straight cream top and cocoa powder, it was a little too heavy and one-note for me. Torta with queso and chipotles - this came out last, which I thought was odd considering it was the only cold item. I wouldn't order it again. It was just a lot of cold shredded cheese, sliced avocado (and not a great one), and some chipotles. It was mostly the temp that surprised me, but the flavors weren't anything remarkable either. MEH: Coconut coffee - refreshing, with a strong coconut flavor. It tasted more of coconut water than coconut milk. REORDER: Hibiscus tinga quesadilla - my second favorite item: thick corn tortillas with smoky hibiscus flower and melted, stretchy cheese. It tasted like a really nicely spiced BBQ jackfruit. It's the nature of corn tortillas that they're a little dry, so I would have preferred more oil used on the outside of the quesadilla. The Pancake - yes, it's that good. We ordered ours to split between 3 people, but if I go again I'll be keeping one for myself! Fluffy, moist, cakey perfection with the right amount of sweet Dining in mid-January got us wild blueberries as a topping. Would I wait again? For the pancake, maybe, but it seems like these kinds of literal pan-cakes are becoming more ubiquitous. read more

Amazing brunch! We got there ~10.30am on Sunday, were the third party in line, and waited about 30min for a table. The space is on the smaller side, cozy, and nicely decorated. It does get a little loud. Everything we had was yum! My favorites were the Green Chorizo Quesadilla and the Masa Pancakes. I thought the batter was similar to Golden Diner's but I liked that the syrup/sauce wasn't too sweet. Everyone keeps talking about this place so I told my friend, I had to try it. So we came for dinner and it did not disappoint. First we went on a Thursday night and we ordered of items. We got the aguachille which a special of the night. The aguachille was really good; it was spicy and fresh. My friend doesn't eat spicy so she didn't eat it. Then we ordered the squash fritters, which were amazing. This was my favorite dish of the night. The fritter was flavorful and a nice texture. The queso on top with the pumpkin seeds made it a perfect dish and the sauce which it was in, was so good. I really enjoyed that dish. We also ordered the guacamole which was really good. The homemade tortillas made the guacamole excellent. As a main course we ordered the bone marrow birria. I enjoyed this dish too, the food was well seasoned and it was simple. We also ordered the cedar salad which was also good. The flavor palette was different with the selection of the leaves but I did enjoy it. I ordered a Paloma and it was so good; a nice balance of liquor and juice. It might be one of the best Palomas, I have ever had. The service was also amazing, the chef came to every table to ask us how the food was. I loved this restaurant and I will definitely be back. I plan to return for brunch and for dinner on Friday when they have live music. read more

Destination local Hamilton Heights dining In every measure of this restaurant, this is my favorite local restaurant with elevate brunch offerings and stellar drinks. I have had dinner but the food has been impressive each visit. The pancakes and tacos were both filling and flavorful. For the service, you need to check in with the host because it is first come first serve seating. The inside is on the smaller side but the quality and relaxed environment is there. Been on my list to try for a while! As soon as you walk in you are welcome by a warm friendly environment. Even the bathroom is colorful and smells like warm spices. Kicked it off with the tomato margarita and Mamá Chelo Jalapeños. The margarita was tasty but not quite tomato enough for me. The Mamá Chelo Jalapeños were tasty and unique. The tuna is not fishy at all and pairs well with the soft jalapeño and onions. The mole was my absolute favorite thing I had on this visit. The sauce is very rich and smoky and the duck leg takes the flavor so well. You can taste the duck even through the rich flavor of the sauce. I've been hearing about this place and it absolutely surpassed all my expectations. It's super cute, a little small, but the decor is really well thought out. I came for the aguachile without realizing that that was in the dinner menu so got the torta de pierna and the masa pancake. The torta is easily one of the best I've had. It wasn't super bogged down with a lot of components but it had super tender pork, a nice heat, and enough acidity that it kept the experience super bright. Wasn't going to get the masa pancake but so glad I did. It has most subtle sweet crust, and comes out piping hot. The peaches on top were cool and overall it was a great balance. Service was friendly and super accommodating. They spoke to everyone and it's clear they have a lot of regulars already. Will be coming back very soon. read more

Today was a wonderful spring day to enjoy the outdoors and some Mexican cuisine. Nestled in the quiet, Hamilton Heights neighborhood, is Concina Consuelo, (where the dishes are cooked to order) owned by the lovely husband and wife, Karina and Lalo. The space felt very traditional and authentic. It seats 25 inside and another 10-12 outside. It was very busy and lively. Karina and Lalo greeted customers, cooked food, bussed tables, took pictures and video, and assisted their staff all with smiles and hugs. I ordered the, now famous, butter-honey glazed Masa pancakes made with heirloom masa, butter-honey, and peach compote. The pancake was made perfectly. It was light and airy on the inside and fluffy with crispy edges. The peach compote was not sweet or overpowering. As a person who doesn't like fruit on pancakes, I was able to totally enjoy this dish in its entirety. You can't come here and NOT try this. It's very filling and delicious. 5/5 I also tried the Chorizo quesadilla. The cheese pull on this was awesome. The green chorizo, salsa, and pickled onions had a nice consistency, and the flavors blended well together. 4/5 I also wanted the grilled cheese, but they were out. I will get that on my next visit, for sure ! To wash it all down, I ordered a pineapple espress-0. It was citrusy and very refreshing. You have to mix it together to experience the combination of flavor. 5/5 I highly recommend you put this on your foody list. I plan on coming back for dinner. We dropped by for lunch at 12:30pm on a Saturday, and there was a line snaking out the door, which I should've expected. The restaurant itself is really small, so they can't fit that many parties at a time. We ended up waiting for around an hour, but they passed out some hot tea while we were outside, which was nice. We ordered the masa pancakes, chorizo quesadilla, and the torta de pierna (braised pork sandwich). The masa pancake was something I was excited to try after seeing photos of it online and it was delicious. I thought the masa would make it denser, but it was warm and super fluffy. The masa flavor was also present but not overpowering. The torta was also delicious and very flavorful. The chorizo quesadilla was solid and well-stuffed with cheese and chorizo, but at least in contrast to the torta I thought it was a little lacking in flavor. They also have interesting coffee-based drinks - I was surprised to see Einspanner on the menu but they were out of those by the time I was ordering. Overall it was a great experience - despite having to wait outside for so long, the food was delicious, the interior was cozy and intimate, and the employees were really friendly, which made for a homey environment. The Quesadilla de Chorizo is TO DIE FOR-- absolutely delicious. The cheese, the chorizo, the tortilla, and the sauce were mm-mm good!! The tortilla is handmade in-house, using nixtamalized corn and the chef's own recipe. Far superior texture and taste to any store bought tortilla. Plus the tryptophan in it is more bioavailable (due to the nixtamalization)! The Agua Fresca was nice-- not too sweet and beautifully garnished with a fresh flower. And the *free range* (!) egg (huevo con Tortilla) was cooked wonderfully so the yolk was runny and custard. Happy animal products always taste better. Tiny little spot in Hamilton Heights with big upscale restaurant quality. Lalo and Karina (former EMP alum) opened this spot in their community to serve up some phenomenal Hispanic food. We came here for dinner and had some fantastic food: Aguachile with Hamachi- served with Apple , citrus sauce and fresh hamach with homemade tortilla chips on the side - perfectly balanced Must have the birria bone marrow served with home made tortillas. Would eat this over and over (and even trigger a gout attack) for this . Perfectly balanced flavors especially with pickled onions , water cress and cilantro. This spot has been on my hitlist for quite some time, I came by for brunch during a gorgeous day out. The restaurant is quaint and charming and we waited for about 10 minutes for a table indoors. Once you come inside, you are presented with the menu, it's a small menu but one that's packed with flavor. Me My friend and ordered the pancake, the eggs on tortilla, and the barbacoa tacos. Food does take quite a bit to come out, especially if the place is packed, but the warmth and good vibes of the place, plus once you taste the food it makes it all worthwhile. Everything was a hit. I enjoyed the savory eggs, how light and fluffy the masa pancake was, and how generous they were with the barbacoa. HOLY EFFING MOLE There aren't enough words to describe how delightful this place is. Food is possibly the best Mexican in NYC. Cocktails are amazing thanks to the mixologist Teisis. Staff (Salome!) is warm and the vibe is impeccable. Just go. So much depth to the food. Karina does all the cooking for all 26 seats all by herself in a tiny kitchen, which adds to the charm. Even the way she calls out "manos!" is pretty magical. Food rundown: Roasted beet salad (this was a special, not on the menu). Really unique. Never had beets like this before. Mama Chelo Jalapeños--stuffed with tuna. Perfection. the sauce was amazing Aguachile--if you like raw seafood this is done inredibly well. Mole negro, made with duck. Me, not a duck fan. When I read about the story behind the many praises, I knew I had to pay them a visit and I was not disappointed in the slightest. We arrived on a Saturday at 12:30pm to a line outside (they take no reservations so plan accordingly). 40 minutes later we were able to get a table at the small but very home-like and cozy restaurant. Coming in we were greeted by the owners' daughter who was cutesely giving out the menus. One of the owners, Karina welcomed us and took our orders. The menu is short but crafted to perfection. We tried the Grilled Cheese, Masa Pancake, and Picaditas de Chorizo with the latter being our favorite dish. Everything was delicious and portions are great enough to fill 2 people. We also tried the Bloody Spritz and the Pineapple Mimosa which were both quite refreshing. The seats get filled up quickly, so the best move is to go at 5:30pm and have a drink while you wait. As for the food, the bone marrows were really good! The mole negro was more split in opinion, but I personally enjoyed it. I got the green tomato marg bc some reviews were raving about it. It wasn't bad but the flavors weren't very well combined; interesting to try, but not necessary. Now THIS is Mexican food!!!! THIS is so far the one and only Mexican food place I'd recommend in NYC. Family owned (Dominican wife and Mexican husband), small, cozy vibes. Ingredients are very fresh and you can taste it!! Everything is homemade (tortillas included)-- thinking of going back immediately!! They have only been only for 3 months so you have to give some grace as they learn but even then... SERVICE WAS AMAZING. We had the pleasure of sitting in the back corner at the bar where the chef and her staff make orders so we got cozy w the chef/ owners. They're a Dominican and Mexican duo that grew up in the neighborhood and take insp from Veracruz dishes. Each dish has SO MUCH FLAVOR and tasted so fresh -- 10/10 almost all around. The DINNER menu starts over $20 and most things are over $30 but everything we ordered was barely the size of an appetizer. I ordered the confit tuna jalapenos but all i got was 3 peppers the size of my finger! The entire drink menu is $20 and up but my martini was only 2/3rds the size of the usual martini. That's a nearly $50 DINNER??? I said more than once to them that they should fix the menu so I don't order an appetizer thinking I'm getting, and paying for, an entree but I got no response telling me they would do this. It's a total rip off. The food was good but who cares? I then went 2 blocks away to The Inn by Fumo and had a great meal for much less money. read more

All fresh and beautiful. The ambiance is cozy, family oriented and fun. It's a family business and it shows in the love and dedication staff display. They had live jazz on a Friday. So fun and a good vibe. We celebrated a birthday and everyone got into singing. It's a neighborhood restaurant and we ran into at Lear three people. First, the highlights: the food is exceptional and the setting is very cute. We especially enjoyed the pato en mole and the papas. A good if short drinks menu. Reasonable prices. The service is friendly. Still, one of the more annoying dinners I've had recently. The (very friendly) waitress did the "I will remember your order" trick and didn't write anything down, and then apparently forgot it all. We got guac instead of salad; the wrong drink for my son (the drinks came out with mains); and they forgot the pato en mole altogether and brought it out right before dessert. The second thing was that the tortillas are these stingy, mean, tiny discs, and brought out only 3 at a time. We'd have felt so much happier if they were those nice, plump blue corn tortillas now common in fancy Mexican restaurants. Despite ordering almost everything on the menu, we needed to go home and make more food to feel satisfied. This place has much potential! The owners are lovely, carrying their daughter on their hips as they serve and greet people. Highly recommend sitting inside - it is so cozy - but outside on a beautiful day isn't a bad option. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the entire city. Not only is the food incredible, but the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm eating a meal with my family. The service is one of the friendliest in the city, you can tell that they genuinely care about the people that they cook for and want to create community within their restaurant. This restaurant should not have outdoor seating if the staff cant keep up with tables. Try Oso or literally any other restaurant nearby. Walked in on a Saturday night and were quickly seated by the hostess. After being seated we waited 15 mins to have our order taken and then another 20 mins for the first dish to come out. -Guacamole & tostadas: lacked seasoning and tostadas were rubbery and not crispy nor toasty at all! -Candy beats: the yogurt and sauce were delicious, but the beets were beyond burnt. -Birria bone marrow: this dish was not bad, but the tortillas that came with it were tough and rubbery. (You should be able to at least get that right) -Duck Mole: duck was dry and overcooked and the mole sauce only tastes of bitter chocolate and no other flavor. -Dessert was the worst thing I've ever had a restaurant. It's as if the cook went to Ctown in the corner, grabbed a bag of frozen berries, covered them in whipped cream, and decided to call it a tres leches and charge $15 for it. Do better. It was a surprise to find this little restaurant in Harlem. There were no tables, and we took the last two seats at the bar. While we waited, I surprisingly felt at home. The aroma of the food, the care with which Karina prepared each of the dishes, and the kindness and joy they served us. By the time our table was ready, we didn't want to take it anymore; we ate much more than we planned to order because we didn't want to miss out on their delicious food. I have dietary restrictions, and I was surprised to see that everything from the exquisite tortillas to the delicious tres leches dessert was prepared right there, gluten-free and preservative-free.
