Cocina 35 is located on the Coronado island side and it sure was popping when I walked in late afternoon on a Tuesday. Many celebratory gatherings were seen and I was lucky enough to be able to get seated as they were closing soon. I sat by the bar and I had a nice view of the waterfront. The inside is decorated very nice with a flower theme vibe. I ordered one of their specialty chilaquiles plate: Cremosos a very unique approach to this plate: Creamy chipotle salsa topped with grilled chicken and I added a sunny side up egg. This plate was very very good I finished it all 5/5. For my drink: I ordered a guayaba mimosa served on a nice glass and had a flower for decoration. The drink was refreshing, bubbly and just enough guayaba flavor in it. I really enjoyed my time here despite being short since they were closing for the day. We walked by this place one night and when we saw the inside, we knew we had to try it out. The atmosphere in here is great! Multiple people came to celebrate their birthdays and got some classic Latin-American hospitality and celebration. We ordered some chilaquiles as those are some of our favorite Mexican breakfasts. Love this location. It has great views to really soak up the San Diego experience. For food we ordered the "Make your own chilaquiles". The tomate red sauce was recommended. It had good flavor. The chilaquiles have a good crunch which I always look for. My son got the kids mini pancakes that comes with eggs and fruit. We added a side of bacon. They have a cart with conchas and abuelita chocolate that you can order before, during, or after your meal. The abuelita chocolate is soooo good. We got a side of frijoles puercos (which have a nice spicy kick) and a sweet tamale. For drinks we ordered the cafe de la olla latte and the horchata which were both very good. First time at Coronado location. We walked in on Monday of Memorial Day weekend. We waited in line about and hour. We thought it might not be too crazy but it was! Make reservations online. We only decided to wait in like because we had 0 plans for the day and traded off being in line. This location is very spacious, with an ocean/skyline view. They also have outdoor seating as well as bar area (which you need your id for). We all ordered chilaquiles, they hit as they usually do. Another reason we decided to wait in line is because we already know what to expect of the food, the food is worth the wait. This is a different kind of review! My Lulu and I walked Coronado early this NASCAR morning. There was a gentleman that worked here at Cocina 35 wearing a pink NASCAR shirt, putting up flags outside getting ready for the arrivals from the Coronado Ferry. This nice gentleman with the pink NASCAR shirt which I wish I would have taken a picture of him, totally catered to my doggy to get a drink. He was telling me it's fresh water (obviously he gets that concept) and everything about this interaction with him really showed what kind of place this restaurant is at the the Coronado Ferry Landing! I didn't ask this guy for anything! He was just a super awesome nice guy that does way more than his job! I truly hope this review reaches him! Came here for brunch with my friends after making a reservation in advance (fyi they won't seat you unless everyone from your party is present). We wanted to go to this particular location since it's right by the water. Inside was really aesthetically pleasing. The bathroom was a vibe too; it kind of reminded me of a bathroom at a club, but daytime and family-friendly. Food: I ordered the Los Rancheros chilaquiles with sunny-side-up eggs since I had read about the chilaquiles online. Another friend ordered the flautas, which she liked. I thought the food was pretty good but wow was it expensive. My dish was $24; sure the portion was large but that's a pretty expensive dish for chilaquiles! My other friends ordered drinks too (Arroz con leche, Moliendo Cafe, Spritzer rosado). I tried all of them, and I thought the spritzer was the best by far; I enjoy drinks on the sweeter side. Service: Started off strong, but it really died by the end. No one checked on us at all after we received our food. 3 people ordered drinks, and 3 people only had water; they only brought out 3 glasses of water, so those with drinks only had their alcohol to sip on, which was strange. When I asked for a refill of my water, they only refilled my glass and ignored the other 2 empty glasses. Seemed very literal. Is this normal for this restaurant? By the end, I had to wave to get someone's attention for boxes and the check. It was a bit frustrating. Parking: Can be a bit tough during peak times, but there is a parking lot in the back. Overall, the food was pretty good, the drinks were ok, the prices weren't great, and the service was worse. Pros and cons all around, so it gets an average rating. I've been to three Cocina 35, and I used to love it, but something happened in the last year that the food quality and customer service changed, especially in the downtown and the Coronado locations. The one in Point Loma is still OK...for now. The downtown location was the best in its beginnings but now, I wouldn't go even if I get it for free. The food quality is way lower. The Coronado location customer service is TERRIBLE. Food quality is the worse! I asked for a fresh coffee because it got cold from waiting for the food, and the waiter refused to get me a fresh one because he said the coffee was made already and it was going to be the same temperature anyway. I couldn't believe he said that. My friend was very upset that I even left a minor tip. They told me they would have left $0 tip! I will never return to this location and definitely NOT recommended. People...please...this place is overrated. Invest your money somewhere else. read more

We came here to celebrate Mother's Day for my mom and one of my sisters, and honestly, our waiter Johan made the entire experience unforgettable. He went far above and beyond what we expected. Not only was he incredibly attentive to our table, but even while helping other tables, he always made sure to come back and check on us. At one point, someone accidentally removed my food without my consent, and he noticed immediately. Without hesitation, he made it right and brought back the food that had been taken from my plate. That level of attention and care truly stood out. What touched us the most was his kindness and humility. He even brought roses for my mom and my sister for Mother's Day, which was such a thoughtful gesture and made the celebration feel even more special. The atmosphere of the restaurant was already wonderful, but his character, professionalism, and genuine service elevated the entire experience. Because of him, we will absolutely be coming back. We sat at the bar since there was such a long line (yes, a LINE) to get a table. The view from the restaurant to the outside was beautiful with water views, sand, people. The places beautiful on the inside as well with flowers hanging from the ceilings and beautiful glass and colors everywhere, including the bathrooms. The servers/bartenders were attentive but not overly hovering. The cafe de la olla was unsweetened and they provided piloncillo (like brown sugar) liquid to add for some sweetness. My hubby and I shared a meal as I don't eat much and neither does he. The best was the chilaquiles and the tamale was so soft and yummy! Cocina 35 in Coronado is decent. Starting with the good: Gorgeous location in Coronado right on the waterfront. It is beautiful and the large glass walls give you a beautuful view of downtown San Diego from Petco Park up to Seaport Village and beyond. Secondly, the food is good, presented beautifully, and the service is good. The Chilaquiles are the best I've ever had. Meanwhile the carne asada for the eggs was ok, not very flavorable or tender, and the bacon a little skimpy. The one thing you need to be wary of is the cost. The food, while good, is pricy. You also need to note everything is extra. If you want nondairy creamer for your coffee it's $3 each. They have carts that go around offering bread or simple drinks while you wait, and the way they present them to you makes it seem like they are complimentary. They are not. Anything you get off of these carts costs extra and they will not tell you that until the bill comes. Secondly, it is loud. If you intend to have a conversation you will have to talk loudly. I found myelf near shouting at times. Overall, a decent breakfast if you want the experience of a high-end brunch. Good for special occasions, great coffee, but too expensive otherwise. You're paying for the view, experience, and location. read more

Cocina 35 in Coronado was such a great experience. There was a small line outside when we arrived, but they offered white umbrellas to help shade us from the sun while we waited, and I absolutely loved that. That kind of thoughtful touch is top-tier service to me. We stood there with our little umbrellas, and honestly, the line moved pretty fast. I ordered the make-your-own chilaquiles with creamy chipotle sauce and carnitas. The carnitas were super flavorful and really good. My only small complaint is that I wish there had been more of the creamy chipotle sauce because I wanted more of that flavor throughout the dish. I also ordered the mango drink, and that was delicious. My husband got the horchata, and he said it was a little on the sweeter side. The restaurant does have a lively atmosphere, and it can get noisy, but not so loud that you can't still have a conversation with the person you're with. There were a lot of birthday celebrations happening while we were there, which made the place feel fun and energetic. I even recorded a little so people can see what they do for birthdays. One thing I thought was really cute is that there was a lady with a cart offering pan dulce and Mexican hot chocolate. It's not included, but it's available as an add-on. We skipped it this time only because we had already ordered enough food and knew we were going to be full, but maybe next time. The view is gorgeous, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. I've been to other Cocina 35 locations, and I think this one might be my favorite just because of the view alone. This place is basically only open for brunch, but most of their chilaquiles don't come with egg by default. But you immediately have an option to add egg for $4. I feel like this is just a gimmick to make it seem slightly less pricy. The eggs....could be fluffier. The avocado is lazily in one giant log. The flavor of the pastor......it's okay. These chips are shaped more like Fritos, but the texture is not bad. They're not totally crispy and not totally soggy, which is good for this. Even plain coffee is $6, and I'm sitting here with an empty cup for like an eternity even though I'm literally sitting at the bar. I have to ask for more coffee as I'm asking for the check. I was visiting my family in San Diego and my niece suggested this place for brunch. She made a reservation and so we didn't wait at all to be seated. The only thing they ask for is that your entire party be present to be seated, which I think is only fair. We were lucky enough to be seated next to a large window, so we had a beautiful view of the Bay. We ordered so much amazing food and drinks; Café de Olla, a Carajillo, the Margarita Sampler and several of us ordered El Tochomorocho, which consists of Chilaquiles, Beans, Huevos Rancheros and a grilled Sweet Tamale topped with Sour Cream and Cotija Cheese. Wow, wow, wow, is all I can say!! Wait, I forgot to mention the sweet lady with the Conchas and other Pan Dulce. Loved it all!! They could not make any minor accommodations for adding two people-when we sat the table for two next to us was empty the whole time, we tried calling for days before and they never answer.
