We arrived and there was no parking so my husband dropped us off and he parked in the overflow parking lot and checked to make sure it was not a tow away zone. Once inside, we got on the 1 1/2 hour waiting list and they text you READY when your table is ready. To our surprise, it was only 40 min wait and our table was ready. Last night's dinner: Cobalt Restaurant, Orange Beach. We perused the menu, read the reviews and went. Twice. The first night, the parking lot was so packed that we could not find a place to park and figured that was our sign to try again another night. We returned the next night early. We split two items. Cobalt Crab and Shrimp Dip: Hot creamy (it wasn't at all creamy and it was over-baked) blend of fresh blue crab and tender bay shrimp with roasted sweet red peppers, Parmesan and Swiss cheese. Accompanied by grilled French bread. (Wayyy too many pieces of bread for the amount of the dip; however, had it been creamy, the ratio might've been better.) Bronzed Gulf Grouper: Served over (a very small portion of) Parmesan risotto (the orzo needed 1 more minute of cooking). Topped with Cajun cream sautéed blue crab (served with the topping completely missing). While it is said that this grouper dish is their most popular item, at $38, had it been served properly with an additional ounce or two of properly cooked risotto and two pieces of asparagus, it would've been a home run. The expediter that night was not paying attention for our table and for another couple who came out of the restaurant at the same time we did had issues as well. Their food was messed up and then they were given a $3 bill for their entire meal. The staff is not paying attention. I surmise they feel they don't have to since the place stays packed, but that's not an excuse. You can only get by with that for so long when you're making these kind of mistakes. Eventually, people stop coming back. It's a great location with great views and a nice venue, which certainly is a great draw. May be try it again on another trip. Maybe not. We waited 3 hours for a table, but it was so worth it thanks to our incredible cocktail server, Bryan. We were a group of 11 celebrating our beautiful bride for her bachelorette, and Bryan truly went above and beyond to make the night unforgettable. He danced with us to the live band, checked on us constantly to make sure we had everything we needed, and somehow made each of us feel special the entire night. The cherry on top? He gave each of us a rose before we left -- such a sweet and unexpected touch. Bryan didn't just serve us -- he celebrated with us. A fantastic person with an amazing energy. This was our third time here and by far this was the worst food and service as well as poor management. We waited approximately 10 minutes for a server and then when she arrived we said we were ready to order food and drink. We waited another 10 minutes for our drinks then our food came a few minutes later. I unwrapped my silverware and it had food on it so I asked another server if he could bring me another set and he said yes. I waited another 10 minutes or so and decided to get some off another table And after I sat back down the manager came by to ask if everything was ok, I said no and explained everything to him, he said "I'm sorry" and walked away from our table. Great view and great atmosphere. On a trip staying at Caribe we came twice to Cobalt. The restaurant staff was prompt and checked on you even when they were slammed. We tried the grilled oysters which were solid. I am used to New Orleans caliber but these will do...a little more butter and more flame and they get to the next level. I tried the bronzed grouper special topped with crab. Tasted good but needed a little more of the sauce. The burger that was eaten was okay but the mashed potatoes were outstanding...and the pepperoni pizza was not good. The second time we finally got a seat at the bar. The bartender (Jay) works his butt off. The drink line was constant....so either get a table or go inside otherwise you will wait. The second day a grilled chicken pizza was eaten and it was better than the burger whatever that means. I had the crawfish and andouille sausage in a vodka sauce. It was delicious. I would eat that ten out of ten times visiting there. Being the only place to eat there makes it crazy busy so don't expect a quick trip at peak times. read more

My 18yr likes this place so much, she insists we eat here... Today, i was hungry for something with Tuna... So, I chose the Blackened Tuna Salad.... I requested both vinaigrette dressings on the side... Once it arrived at the table, it was better than expected... Normally, I wouldn't pay over $15 for a salad... But, this one was well worth paying the difference...It had a big piece of well seasoned tuna, cooked to perfection, pickled cucumber, carrots, and onions, goat cheese (my favorite,) and candied pecans... The whole salad was a bit different and so so good... Dressings were very complimentary to the ingredients.... Now, It will hard for me to ever try something different bc I liked it so much... My mouth I actually drooling thinking about it.... And, it one of the healthier options on menu! Healthy does go out the window when passing the desert bar....My daughter also always insists that we get desert to carry back to our condo... Huge selection, as you can see pictured here.... Worst restaurant customer service I have experienced in 40 years. I've been here dozens of times and at company owned places like GTs and Cosmos and tonight I couldn't believe the level of rudeness and unprofessional behavior of one Datricia Lewis who said he was in charge of the front of the house. I had over a dozen people from Texas, California, Georgia, and Alabama and when my text showed we were 0 of 70, we went the front desk and were told our table was not ready. My daughter asked my other daughter what was up, and the person at the front desk said "I already told you your table is NOT READY." We didn't ask her. We waited over 1.5 hours. Datricia is is apparently over the front desk and I told her someone was rude to my daughter and she was dismissive, gaslighted us to say no one said this, when she was no where near the front desk. Even though, she insisted she was and wanted me to point out my daughter. I did and she told her what happened did not happen. WTF?? I like this chain of restaurants but it's the last time I bring over a dozen people to ANY OF THEM EVER AGAIN. One of my daughters has over a million reviews on Google- she's gonna light 'em up. You want alternatives? Try the Oyster House at Perdido Key. Good food, nicer people. We have eaten at Cobalt many times over the years but unfortunately, this night was disappointing. First, the hostess gave us a time frame of one hour to 2.5 hours, which is a big difference. After waiting 90 minutes, which we expected before arriving, we were ushered past the regular, cool dining room and into a poorly lit meeting room that was like an add on. The lighting was harsh and we were sat at cheap banquet tables and chairs. Every table that was sat in the room shared our disappointment and we could see and hear them express it when they sat. We never received or were offered bread but had bread plates. Our food was good so it earned the stars. The setting is spectacular (watching the sun set over Roosevelt Island as dolphins frolic in the waters), the food is great, and our server (Ahja) was perfect (one of our party said he was the best server she's ever had). It's a large place with an outdoor bar and stage for live music. We wanted an outdoor table; at first we were seated very close (too close) to the musician, so we opted to wait for another table. It was perfect--we had a front row view of the water. Speaking of music, the musician was a country singer. I am normally not a fan, but this guy was great. There was a large group of people sitting in Adirondack chairs close to the stage, just listening to him. I can't believe we've lived here for a year and had not heard of this place. "Customer service" person, nor the GM we're interested in assisting us in any way nor comping anything for our extensive wait time. Over a 2 hour wait is not reasonable not acceptable when quoted less than an hour wait. There were several large table (that would accommodate our 7 person party that were open and sitting there empty for 30+ mins. And no offer of any compensation at all. NOT OKAY!
