NOT IMPRESSED! walked in and the gal upfront asked if they could help. I explained needed a thermostat and she asked how i knew thats what was wrong. I explained the symptoms. The gal says okay, we would like to do a diagnostic to make sure the head gasket has not leaked due to the truck being hot. I said no thank you, I just want the thermostat replaced. The gentleman comes over and says I'm sorry, we are not the repair shop for you. HAHA! I guess because they could not upsell additional services to increase billing. There was no need to perform such a service at this time. It is a service you can do, but was not necessary. Do yourself a favor question anything additional that is suggested here. Honesty is not the policy, increased sales are. This would be a great place for a sting operation on additional services for the police or a news crew. Just for a follow up: If you listened, I explained what was wrong and what I wanted done! I did not tell you how to run your business. Fantastic customer service. I called about a timing belt and water pump replacement. I spoke with Rochelle, and she explained we have to back up and see the overall health of my car. Being that it is 16 years old and 228k miles, it might not be worth it to fix the timing belt. Made sense. Took my VW Passat in today and gave it a thorough check up. Turns out my car is in great condition! And even better, the timing belt doesn't need to be replaced. They saved me $1,500+. The stuff I need to fix are easy and I can keep my Passat going strong! I live in the Bay Area and was looking for a repair shop to care for the car our son is using for school at UNR. I spoke to James and he assured me they could help. I helped coordinate the drop-off of the car and James did the rest. He texted with both my son and I with updates and photos of the work being done. Only Pros! No Cons! So far I've been nothing short of impressed getting my SUV serviced at CoAuto. Value for Money -Only charged me $30 for an general diagnostic on the vehicle. Peace of Mind -All the parts I had installed are covered by a 24K mile warranty two year warranty and comes with roadside assistance for a year Prompt Service -I had a 8am appointment and the team at CoAuto was ready. I was able to drop off my car and head out after only a few minutes. Keeping me Up to date I've never had a mechanic keep me so well informed on the progress of my service. He treated my SUV like I had left an injured child with him. In total I had 5 separate phone calls with Vinnie. After telling me his diagnostic he further went on to very clearly explain why he recommended service with estimates on cost every step of the way. -Before beginning any work he made sure to get my approval. Twice Vinnie called to update me on cost increases and when I could expect to pick up my vehicle. -Ride Home Shuttled me home after dropping off my car. Then picked me up when my car was ready! This poor review is not a result from CoAuto's service or competence but rather exorbitant pricing. They appear to be a friendly and professional shop. Their vehicle updating system via text is a great way to monitor their work and progress on your vehicle. So my Check Engine light turned on for my 2015 Kia Sedona and my personal mechanic installed a secondary catalytic converter and Oxygen sensor. After that it was like playing whack-a-mole with trouble codes. I realized it was above his capability and I got my vehicle to CoAuto. I provided them with a complete recent history and work done to the vehicle (BTW, my vehicle was running great with no symptoms. I just needed to clear the Check Engine Light to pass smog and register the vehicle.) They started with a complete diagnostic analysis ($195) and recommended beginning with a "Fuel Induction Service" ($292.25). I had already done my own with a high end product but approved their recommendation. This led to a recommended "Engine Compression Test" at a cost of $1,564.25. In this process, they access the spark plugs and test each (6) to see if the piston rings, valves and head gasket are properly sealed. It passed! 6 new spark plugs at a cost of $227.88 ($37.98 per plug!!) an upper intake manifold gasket ($197.35!!) plus $869.20 in labor! OUCH. Their next recommendation was replacing the main catalytic converter with California Emission specs at a cost of $5,700. I asked if this next step would solve the issue. To this they were not certain. At this point I had researched average cost and time for Compression tests and was under the impression I was paying roughly triple of what I should. I cut my loses and took my vehicle to another shop that indicated labor on my vehicle for a compression test is a 2 hour job, not 6 that CoAuto charged. Other recommendations that CoAuto had for my vehicle but that I did not pursue: *Transmission Fluid Exchange $391.62 *Changing my coolant $380.96. (strange because I had just changed it myself 2 weeks prior for $45) *Front Lower Control Arms $1,639. I already had this diagnosed and had ordered OEM lower control arms for $300. I had them professionally installed by another mechanic for 1.4 hrs of labor and spent a total of $540 vs the $1,639 CoAuto quoted!! Again, I'm not speaking to their competence only, what I feel, is excessive pricing. I wish they could be my go-to shop but that's just not going to be the case. read more

I am very impressed with CoAuto with their promptness, attitude, and service they provided to me (and my car) on 12/23/2020. After multiple visits to the dealership and hundreds of dollars spent, they were able to fix three of my car warning lights (WHICH REMAIN OFF - thank you!!). Long story short: they saved me thousands of dollars. Not only were they able to fix the items that I had requested help on, they even fixed items that I was not aware of were broken in my car (blown OBD port, remove tape that was placed on wires from the dealership) without an additional charge. So far, so good. I made it home. I drive an old truck with lots of miles. The drive belt disintegrated five miles out of Reno on my way to California. A Yelp search revealed CoAuto was not only the closest repair shop, but also highly rated. I dropped the truck off at night when no one was there. The lot was empty. Google and Yelp stated an opening time of 8 in the morning. I was there at 8 and found the shop was humming and their lot full. That's about my only complaint. I could've been there earlier to speed up the process of getting my baby on the road. Polite, concerned and helpful is the best way to describe the front office. It takes a few extra minutes to get all the information for the repair, but it makes up for it later with a messaging/PDF system describing your initial visit, what the technician saw, what needs to be done and the repair estimate. A great system that protects everybody. I'll be taking my truck to CoAuto for more service in the near future. So far, so good. read more

I told them what I need and they said yeah, but it was not true after you let them diagnose your car. After that they want you to let them do what they want and forget about what you wanted. They did great from beginning to end. We had a truck that had severe steering problems. The back wheels were not free spinning during turns. They identified that the problem was a damaged wiring harness and then repaired it rather than replacing it. Fixed several other minor issues and performed a complete oil service and diagnostic. My 2014 BMW 535IGT broke down I took it to Co Auto. James the service advisor was very nice and told me they had the best BMW mechanic in Reno However the news is bad and they told me that my car engine was blown they gave me a quote for a new block and other parts for a total of $35,000 This was terrible news as the car was not worth nearly that much so I went about getting a quote to sell the car I got a quote for $4200 from a company that specializes in buying cars with blown engines I did ask COAUTO how they knew my engine was blown and they said white smoke coming out of the rear it was their experience that that probably means a blown engine or head gasket And the result the car needed a new engine I talked to the local BMW dealer and also my brother who had a BMW shop in Stockton for many years. they read the code problems that I got from COAUTO and said they did not think it was a blown engine To make a long story short I had my car shipped to a BMW shop in Lodi California. I was shocked to learn that they were able to put in two new fuel injectors in the car started running again just fine. My cost for the new fuel injectors spark plugs and oil change came in around $2500 That's right $2500. i've gotta say that COAUTO Was very respectful and prompt in getting back to me and help me out storing the car till I could get it shipped. BUT how in the hell they missed such a simple fix completely baffles me. I was told three different times that COAUTO had the very best BMW mechanic in Reno thankfully I got a second opinion. read more

They were opened, although they were unable to get to the car until Jan 2, everyone I talked with was great. They evaluated the car and determined the head gasket was blown. AAA towed the car to a service station where they checked the car and found that the electrical system looked fine, that is until you turned on the headlights. Just had my oil change here and it was fantastic! I've been searching for a good, honest mechanic here in Reno. I took my time and I happened to have a conversation with Anthony and I decided to bring my car in. They went above and beyond, rotated and filled my tires. There always is the doomsday moment when you're getting the maintenance report but fortunately I was good to go. They mentioned minor preventative measures to act upon in the future, but it wasn't the stereotypical pressure I've received from mechanics who demand something must be fixed.
