I went with the higher end product, the better windows and liked the price comparatively. That is where the enjoyment ended. There have been many issues, so many I'm not sure I can remember them all... The first of which was the contractor and his helper peeing in my yard! That stopped after I complained but it started thing off unwell. The contractor would often say he would be at my house at a certain time and show up and hour or more after that time. Twice he was going to come up and he didn't even call to cancel when he didn't show. Granted, it was a weekend and it was raining but a call would have been considerate. The construction process requires cutting panels that leave a thick, white Styrofoam dusting all over my front yard. The contractor did ask me to move my car but my yard is just coated in this white foam. Doesn't wash away and I really don't know how I'm going to get rid of it. The first rain showed extensive leaking. I pointed it out to the owner and the contractor and expressed major concern as I was installing expensive flooring. Attempts were made to seal the units more securely. It is true I had this installed over a concrete existing floor but paid an additional nearly $1500. to have Tyvek and subfloor installed to prevent weather and cold from penetrating my top addition and the concrete was supposed to have been leveled and sealed by the concrete guy Coachworks was using who never showed up. He did show up to pour an additional needed extension, however, then never came back to pull up his forms or take his boards and stakes. I had to hire someone to do that and put them aside until his eventual return without notice. The installation required a fan and light be installed in the ceiling/roof and the guys cut a hole in my roof to do it! Then, to keep it from leaking, they caulked the heck out of it! You can easily now see this ugliness from the upstairs window when you look out. It leaked! They came again to seal the leak and put more caulk on it and really made it an monstrosity! I've had two other contractors tell me there were numerous alternatives to cutting a hole in my roof! Very ugly! There was another rain and, again, more leaking. In concern, I asked the owner for something in writing saying they'd be responsible if the leaks wrecked the flooring. He agreed but I never got it. Each time the owner and his contractor would come and try to pass it off on a problem like the concrete or the fact that I didn't have gutters ( I didn't, but I didn't when he bid the job and never mentioned the fact I would need them) or several other attempts to pass the buck. He, the owner, did try to fix it and it did get better after I spent additional money putting up gutters. This happened several different times with the culmination being the last big storm when I woke up to an inch and a half of standing water in the lower addition. I immediately called the owner, he and the contractor came up and took the doors out again, caulked everything again, blamed more things but did seem to reduce the leakage substantially. The cause, rain off the roof bounced up dirt into the weep holes. I can only surmise I'm the only person that has ever had one of these units installed that didn't have gutters! This was never mentioned to me along the way, only when it leaked. In between all of this, as I'm heating my new addition, I go out one evening on my way to see my outdoor Xmas lights and low and behold, I can see them from inside the addition! Turns out the contractor missed a 3/4" gap all the way along the top of the wall where it joined the existing roof! Lots of PGE dividends went up those few days with my heating bill! The answer again? More caulk. My additions are essentially holding together by caulk and spray foam. The contractor didn't join the walls to the shiplap existing siding, just butted them and spray foamed and caulked the holes, as of this writing and the current rain, the bottom level is still leaking, albeit, slightly by comparison from what it was. The owner still is willing to make futile attempts to subdue the leaks but now his story is I need to put gutters up on another side and more cost to make his damn buildings waterproof. All in all, a bad and disappointing situation. I very much like the owner and he's a really nice guy but I think he doesn't have a good understanding of his product in the real world. He can quote specs quickly and easily but it just didn't occur to him that there would be so many issues with this project. I'm sure he's not made much money off this project given the many times he's been back and back. I only give two stars here because, to this very minute, the owner is still trying to solve the problems but his solutions always seem to cost me more money so I'm done. I don't recommend this type of addition if you intend to live in the space. read more
