I interviewed a half dozen or so contractors prior to selecting Nico Pro Construction (NPC) to do my Dream Garage project. The usual criteria: conveyed competence, experience, estimate completeness, competitive pricing, timeline, and gut-feel, were all considered and evaluated. From the beginning, it was clear to me that NPC was a cut above the others. I especially appreciated that Nazariy, NPC's estimator, was also going to be the Project Manager. That in itself was huge to me, ensuring I wouldn't ever get the "he said, she said" game that is so often prevalent in construction projects. Throughout the project, Nazariy provided me with updated timelines keeping me "in the loop"; that was a big plus for me. And while we had our share of mostly weather related delays, I always knew where we were with the scope of work. As was the case with Nazariy, NPC's crew of workers performed their efforts with a solid sense of pride and regard for their work and my project. Sadly, that mindset is not as common place in construction as I remember it to be; NPC clearly exhibits the proprietary interest you want in your contractor. I was reminded of this with a couple of the subs who worked with us, as some of their efforts were lacking. My biggest advice when choosing a Sentrel shower wall is to wait for a sample before making your final decision, especially if the color isn't available to see in the showroom. In our case, the Master shower floor and walls were supposed to be the same color, but once installed, the walls looked noticeably different and had more of a gray/green undertone. We absolutely love the workmanship and truly appreciate all the hard work that went into completing our bathroom. The only thing we're struggling with is the wall color. If replacing the walls is even an option, we would love the opportunity to discuss it, although we honestly feel hesitant asking because we know how much work went into the installation. And the full internal framing replacement of 3 windows, insulation and drywall. Project crew was great, and professional. Being here was several weeks, I worked from hime to let them have access to the backyard and inside the house for their needed repairs. They all worked without issue and concern, and provided necessary updates when available. Communication with the city for permits was at issue at first, and an initial inspection was missed. As myself and the team weren't aware it was taking place at that specific time. 2nd inspection, the inspector was several hrs late and made the contractors wait all day, and no work could get done that day. Inspections after were good. Only issues I noted were a number of nails left out in my yard, all in the same area vicinity. Where my dog also goes out to walk, so that was a little concern. But there was nothing else that occured, and clean up for was good before and after. Total work - $18k+

Dan at ABD came to my house to provide an estimate for replacing my back deck. We wanted to demo…read morethe old deck and replace with a smaller 208sf deck. Dan was on time and very professional. Dan provided an onsite quote of $25,000. I asked if this included the permit. He said he doesn't always get permits, especially if the property is set back from a street where people can't see the work being performed. I asked about financing options and he had one of his lenders send me the application for financing, but after reading the fine print, I realized that the lender wanted to put a lien on my home to secure the loan. After Dan got back to his office he sent me a contract for the work but the contract didn't include a cost breakdown. I called Dan and told him that my county requires a permit for the job, and we need to hire a contractor to handle the drawings and permit process for us. Dan was not familiar with the permit process for our county and said he would have to make some calls. He said he would have to hire an architect for the drawings and verbally told me it would cost approximately $7,500. I asked if he had any other lenders that offer unsecured loans. He said he would talk to his finance dept. and back to me. After the call, I sent Dan a text letting him know that I would be contacting other contractors for quotes. Dan immediately responded with better unsecured loan option at 6.9% interest. I let Dan know that I would get back to him after reviewing other quotes. After meeting with other contractors we decided a cheaper way to complete this project would be to build a landing and staircase to the ground instead of a deck. I called Dan and he said he could build the staircase for $8,500 but permit with drawing would cost an additional $6,500. I asked him about the other lender he had mentioned before with the unsecured loan, and he said he would speak to his finance dept. and get back to me. That was the last time I heard from Dan and he never got back to me. ABD may have great reviews online, but I don't think people hear about customer's experiences who decide not to hire them. Just wanted people to be aware of their un-permitted work practices, their lenders that try to put a lien on your home and contracts with no price breakdown.

I had some unique issues that they were able to take care of like some rotted eaves and installing windows and doors that I provided. They were able to do pretty much everything I wanted to the exterior of the house which looks amazing. They had great pricing and worked extremely fast and efficient. The onsite crew was amazing with high attention to detail, especially flashing everything according to James Hardie specifications. Quality work, quick, and pricing seemed reasonable. In regards to the air conditioning issue that caused a leak due to improper installation, crowne communities went radio silent on me after I notified them of the problem. Not sure why crowne communities would do something like that, and it was the second issue we had with water leaking through our roof due to their build quality. In summary RZ Drywall is great, crowne communities has not been.
