After speaking with a few (some never bothered to even return my call) I had a lengthy conversation with Ed Riddle (of Godina Construction). I explained our situation of wanting to have a fence built but we had several issues with noise and vibration on the property we had to contend with. Ed listened and told me he understood. He sent me a quote which was very reasonable and explained how he and his work crew could deal with the issues I presented to him. We had to have a late morning start time, and we had to do most of the work by hand (no heavy loud machinery). My disabled son has noise and vibration sensitivities and can't tolerate loud sounds. Ed and his crew were very respectful and followed our guidelines to the letter. They built us a great fence (totally enclosing our 3.5 acres) and kept us in the loop at all times during the construction. We have also had Ed and some of his crew out to do other work such as French drains and the moving of structures on our property. I also received a recommendation from a friend for a local contractor, so we ultimately obtained estimates from both Condor and a smaller local company. When Tal Pinto arrived for our initial consultation, we walked through the house and discussed our ideas. I had a very specific vision for the kitchen, including painting all of the existing cabinetry. Rather than simply agreeing to the project, Tal took the time to evaluate the cabinets and explained that they were already extremely high quality. He told me that if they were his cabinets, he would leave them exactly as they were. That level of honesty immediately stood out to me. Instead of trying to sell us on unnecessary work, he provided thoughtful, professional advice that was genuinely in our best interest. From that moment on, I had a great feeling about Condor. When we received our estimate, it was one of the most detailed and organized proposals I had ever seen. The steps in front of the house needed to be replaced. A number of contractors asked me to take…read morepictures of the steps with my smartphone and text it to them. It would be very difficult to give an accurate estimate that way because there's a lot of dry rot underneath the steps which needed to be inspected in-person. R&B Framing was the only company which showed up to take a look at the steps. Two days later, Jose Cedillo emailed me an estimate and thoroughly answered my questions. His company uses Redwood or cedar wood for Victorian homes, though cedar does cost extra. We were surprised by how fast his crew finished the job. They showed up on April 9th, early in the morning and worked until the evening. They arrived the next day to finish the rest of the steps and the banisters. He also painted the banisters according to the original white creme color. If it's a legacy house, they'll stick to the originality of the Victorian architecture. (Per building code regulations, when a house is considered a legacy house the paint must be the original--or close to the original color--of when the house was first built.)
