The Deome brothers Fred and Harley and their expert construction team did a fantastic job rebuilding our deck. They also did modifications to the roof over our deck to make it just the way we wanted to have it. The deck was done without any screws showing in the top of the deck boards, which we like a lot. The deck looks beautiful and is one of the main attractions of our house. All of the people who work for them were very friendly and nice. The Deome2 team did everything we asked for and more. As an example of "more", on the original deck the boards ran in several different directions as the deck wrapped around the house. Harley and Fred Deome suggested a way to make the deck look nicer and cleaner by running all the deck boards in the same direction all the way around the house. This took some extra framing and wasn't the way the other two builders we spoke with would have rebuilt it. So this made the deck more attractive, and it was one of the reasons we decided to go with Deome2 for rebuilding our deck. We asked for quotes from three different builders for this deck replacement. Deome2 Builders was not the lowest quote. But a reason we went with Deome2 was their willingness to both rebuild the deck and to also make some improvements we wanted to make on the deck cover roof. They were the only one of the three quotes who was willing to do both tasks. For everything this project took two years to complete. Partly this was because of the high demand and the long lead times for builders during Covid. Deome2 was able to start the deck about 7 months after we signed the contract. The main deck rebuild took them 1-2 months (... partly because it was done over the Christmas holidays). About 7 months after that they did the roof work for us. The final cleaning up of the last fix-up items was done about 9 months later. I give them a lot of credit because they fixed every detail to our satisfaction, including all of the minor fix- up items. We greatly appreciated that. They outsourced it (subbed it) to a low-quality fence builder. So, we ended up with a nice deck and a crud fence. If you need only a deck, try them. If you need anything else as well, try elsewhere. We contacted Deome 2 Builders about replacing a large upstairs deck/balcony. Harley came out to our house and seemed knowledgeable. We really liked him. He said he would send us a quote within a week or so. Weeks passed and nothing. I pinged him by BM and text after a bit. Nothing. I called several more times over the next few months, but still radio silence. I recently, after about 5 months, called, texted, and emailed. I still haven't received a response. The good. We hired Deome to build our pool deck right before Covid, and boy did they deliver! The quality, the craftsmanship - all top-notch! That deck helped us to get through Covid for sure. Needless to say, my wife and I have recommended Deome to many of our friends! The bad. The "service". One of the deck lights died a couple of months later. I was too busy with work and only called Deome when two more lights were gone, and I couldn't figure how to replace them (there were installed flush with the surface, which looked great, but not servicable). They picked up (probably expecting a new customer). Unfortunately, Covid was already here, which made things harder for contractors, etc. I told them to take their time but ask to get it done when they get a chance... Fast forward, a year since my first service call, multiple text messages and calls Deome finally sent somebody "who was in the area" to look at it. The guy came and said that he would go and try to fix it the next day, so I planned accordingly... Nobody showed up! Since then, I left a few voice mails and texts - NO FEEDBACK AT ALL! Not a single call/text returned! And for the record, I did not complain or ask them to do anything for free! It looks like I will have to fix it myself. I was hopeful to use Deome for my deck remodel and some other work around the house. I had them come out and look over the project. I followed up a week later when I had not received any bid nor any indication they wouldn't be bidding - no response. My brother followed up again about a week days after that, they said they had already sent a bid but would resend it. We confirmed emails but, again, nothing. A few days later, he followed up again, this time they said they were now booked up till March 2018 (6 months from now) so they wouldn't be bothering to be re-sending a bid since "they were sure we needed the work done sooner". I realize not every contractor wants to or can work every job but I had just wish they'd said they were not interested earlier on so that we wouldn't have spent time following up / waiting for their bid. If they really are booked up six months, I wish they had told me how bad their backlog was earlier on so that I could of spared us both the appointment. Harley is the man. I called multiple contractors in search of someone that could tear up my old deck and build me a new one. We decided on the Trex decking, due to the low maintenance and beautiful look. Harley worked with me to come up with a good design, along with some custom requests from myself. We had to do everything in phases, since I had to remove a large redwood tree stump before we could take apart the old deck. The process was seamless. The deck came out great. I will say we had a small issue with the built in LED lighting, but it was not Harley's fault and he worked hard to correct the issue. We couldn't be happier with how the deck turned out. We had a very simple 240 square foot deck, no steps, no patterns...the job was to level the existing piers, put new 4x4 pressure treated down, cut the wood (simply cut 16' boards into two pieces and lay them down), screw in a simple faschia board, screw down and apply a light sealer. The owner came out to bid and advised that they are now having their crews leave jobs at 2PM daily to double time work on two jobs per day because of demand and that they could fit in our job during their afternoon window and it would take about 2-3 days. Seems reasonable since 240 square feet is a small deck. We had no access issues or special requests. In fact, we had already priced out the materials as costing just under $4000 retail, nevermind his contractor discount potential. The bid came in at $10,000. Given $6000 for labor with two guys, that's generously $2000 labor per day for a low design deck project. Assuming they worked from 230PM (time from other job site) to sunset (930PM) mid-summer, that's 7 hours per person X 2 people = 14 hours per day of labor, assuming no breaks. 14 hours into $2000 equals $142 per hour for deck labor. My accountant and lawyer do not make these rates. When asked to explain the massive discrepancy, the owner complained he had "overhead". Sounds like a business model that is not sustainable. read more

I've been trying to get all my ducks in a row for years now to build a sorely needed deck on my home. In the begining Harley was very accommodating and came by several times to help me put together a quote and plan. After signing a contract with him and providing a deposit... I heard nothing. I sent a text to follow up and figure out scheduling, and let him know my financing was complete on a Friday afternoon. The following Wednesday he responded, at about 9 PM. Also I learned many years ago you never want to go with the cheapest contractor. I appreciated the honesty, the depth of knowledge and the responsiveness of the owners. Their foreman, Brad and crew worked tirelessly even throughout the hottest days of the summer. They had great attention to detail and whenever I noticed something that was even slightly off they had already noted it and had plans to fix it.
