I interviewed a half dozen or so contractors prior to selecting Nico Pro Construction (NPC) to do my Dream Garage project. The usual criteria: conveyed competence, experience, estimate completeness, competitive pricing, timeline, and gut-feel, were all considered and evaluated. From the beginning, it was clear to me that NPC was a cut above the others. I especially appreciated that Nazariy, NPC's estimator, was also going to be the Project Manager. That in itself was huge to me, ensuring I wouldn't ever get the "he said, she said" game that is so often prevalent in construction projects. Throughout the project, Nazariy provided me with updated timelines keeping me "in the loop"; that was a big plus for me. And while we had our share of mostly weather related delays, I always knew where we were with the scope of work. As was the case with Nazariy, NPC's crew of workers performed their efforts with a solid sense of pride and regard for their work and my project. Sadly, that mindset is not as common place in construction as I remember it to be; NPC clearly exhibits the proprietary interest you want in your contractor. I was reminded of this with a couple of the subs who worked with us, as some of their efforts were lacking. When such incident arose however, Nazariy was always Johnny on the spot stepping up and stepping in to ensure all was righted. In the end, NPC successfully provided me with the Dream Garage I had envisioned. To anyone who is looking to find a competitive, competent, contractor, that they can truly trust, I wholeheartedly recommend Nico Pro Construction. We have "tried" other contractors, but Ed Riddle is simply hands-down above his competitors. Most importantly, he was truly interested in providing us finished product and design that we wanted! He didn't ever make it about his agenda and was never pushy. Last year, we were introduced to Ed when we moved to the area and needed our 5 hilly acres masticated and cleared. He wasn't the most inexpensive, but he was competitive and you get what you pay for, as they say! His bid sat on our desk for a few weeks while we tried to get 3 bids. After meeting a few other companies, it was very clear that Ed Riddle was the right guy. He followed up, he was flexible, and he partnered very well with us. This year, we decided to build a large garden area and really needed the help of a knowledgeable contractor who we could trust. Again, we asked 3 companies to bid. Ed and his crew began work and were here as scheduled until the job was completed. We made changes along the way and it wasn't a painful process and he kept the price the same. Now we have a beautiful fenced in garden area, a chicken run, and we are so excited to make our dream a reality this spring! One thing my husband liked about his construction is that he put a creature skirt all around the fence and the coop to make sure that rodents and the like won't steal our goodies that we grow! He even listened to me, the wife, about the things I wanted! Ed installed several railroad ties to create the steps down the hill to the garden. I'm short and he made sure that the steps were comfortable for me. He is SO GREAT! After speaking with a few (some never bothered to even return my call) I had a lengthy conversation with Ed Riddle (of Godina Construction). I explained our situation of wanting to have a fence built but we had several issues with noise and vibration on the property we had to contend with. Ed listened and told me he understood. He sent me a quote which was very reasonable and explained how he and his work crew could deal with the issues I presented to him. We had to have a late morning start time, and we had to do most of the work by hand (no heavy loud machinery). My disabled son has noise and vibration sensitivities and can't tolerate loud sounds. Ed and his crew were very respectful and followed our guidelines to the letter. They built us a great fence (totally enclosing our 3.5 acres) and kept us in the loop at all times during the construction. We have also had Ed and some of his crew out to do other work such as French drains and the moving of structures on our property. For our main stairwell, we needed to build a closed stringer, custom railing, newel post, stair treads to match existing floors, and trim work. He was the ONLY person willing to custom build the newel post to the exact dimension and style I wanted and actually sat with me and drew it out exactly. Every other bidder told me my only option was to choose from a catalog, but Russ fashioned it from scratch! This convinced me he was the one to hire for ANY CUSTOM WOODWORK. Russ brought my vision to life by closing the stringer and building a clean and simplified trim. He worked with me on the stain for both railing and stair treads and did not give up until we were both satisfied. Matching the stain and matter finish of our floors was a major accomplishment in and of itself. For anything involving woodwork, Russ is your guy!

The work can look good initially, but in my experience, the quality didn't hold up over time--especially with the finish work and subcontractors. A few examples: 1. Tile work had issues. Fixtures were not properly pre-fitted before drilling, which caused alignment problems (sink hitting the ledge). 2.Tile installation was not fully level/flush, 3.Trim and baseboards were not finished correctly--joints are now cracking, and surfaces didn't appear to be properly primed. 4. My new flooring was scratched when heavy items were moved, despite asking them to wait for help. This was never repaired. 5. Does not double check work, he will come back to fixbut this ahould not be the homeowner responsibility. Based on my experience, I would be cautious relying on them for detailed finish work or subcontractor management. For more basic scope (demo, flooring install, paint prep, windows), they may still be a reasonable option.
