Once I made the decision to go with 3 Generations, I started working with Jeremy who went the extra mile to meet me at my work to sign the paperwork and select the type of siding for the house. We signed the paperwork in the late Fall, which is a busy time for them but Jeremy was always up front with their estimated timing, which I really appreciated. Once the work started, the job was completed pretty quickly. Again, Jeremy and his crew were very communicative and kept me updated on the status of the work until it was done. They also fixed some plywood dry rot and installed new plywood as well as correcting some roof deck problems in addition to all of the siding replacement. 3 Generations did a great job on the siding for our house. We received a total of 3 bids and felt the best about 3 Generations. We felt very comfortable with Kurt who came out and meet with us and also the price was very fair. We had a very old shake siding that was starting to dry rot and fall off the house. We could not go another winter without getting it taken care of. Kurt presented us with two options. He let us know about Hardy Siding and LP Smart Siding. Both great options but we decided to go with Hardy Siding which was a bit more expensive but not by much. Their crew was great. David was the lead installer on the job, he was very professional and accommodating to any questions we may have had. If he saw something that he wasn't sure about i.e. wires all over the place, he asked me first before doing anything. When the house was finished it looked like a new house, it turned out great. We called upon 3 Generations Improvements to replace our siding and insulate our house. We got quotes from a few different companies, and while 3 Generations wasn't the lowest bid, they were competitive, but Kurt took the time to explain a number of things I hadn't considered initially. Their proposal was very professional and detailed, listing what was to be done for each part of the job. They got to work pretty quickly after we came to an agreement and I was really impressed with David and his crew. They were sure to let me know when they would be there each day, and let me know when they found issues (and there were more than a few with our old house). They ended up fixing a number of problems with the woodwork around the house that I hadn't noticed how bad they were until they were exposed. The team worked through the holiday season and finished the job faster than we expected, which was really great. We obtained several bids, and we're happy that we selected 3GI, whose price was not only competitive but also their workmanship was excellent. Kurt's proposal and additional recommendations for repairs during the project were spot on. 3GI upgraded our siding from T1-11 plywood to James Hardie Board, enclosed our eaves with Hardie Board and Vulcan vents, replaced our fascia vents with Vulcan vents, and foundation vents with Wildfire Defense Mesh. We also replaced our windows with Milgard Trinsic and performed other repairs on our 30-40-year-old home. This review is woefully late, unlike 3 Generations who showed up everyday on time, and ready to work. Our work was done in late 2019. We invited 3 crews to bid, Jeremy and crew made the best impression. Both the professionalism, and cost were winning factors. We elected to have plywood installed in areas where the builder had not, the entire home wrapped in Tyvek, R2 foil/foam insulation installed, and then the siding. We've noticed a HUGE difference in home comfort and energy usage during the hot summer. The subs for the rock work were efficient as well, and were on time. 3G is definitely not the cheapest siding and windows contractor, but if you want a job done right with excellent attention to detail, they are your vendor. We had our entire home's siding replaced along with a dozen or so leaky windows. We opted not to do patch work because there was significant damage and dry rot across the entire house, both externally and behind the siding. 3G had completed jobs for similar houses in our community, and they came highly recommended to me. 3G was responsive throughout the entire project, patiently taking the time to answers all of my (probably OCD!) questions in person, via phone, and even text, all before spending a dime. Once engaged, they managed the project very well in spite of COVID and delivered on everything they said they would. As an indicator of their integrity, they respected all of the original pricing (estimated in February 2020) for our project in spite of increased labor and material costs they had to absorb as a result of COVID delays and impacts. This review is overdue. It took us about two years to work up to this job but really glad we did and glad we went with 3G. Their prices are competitive and their work is quality. We were impressed by Alex and crew throughout the process and Logan was always in touch and available to answer questions along the way. My wife and I really wanted to paint our house that we bought several years ago. Upon looking around the house, there were several areas of dry rot that needed to be replaced. My father in law who is a retired contractor informed us it was thousand of dollars worth of work to be done prior to being able to paint. So went went on the hunt to find a company to replace the siding on the entire house. We had a couple of consultations from a few private contractors as well as Home Depot. 3Generations came to our house and did a walk around. The owner Kurt was very nice and professional. He printed out some areas we hadn't noticed and asked us what we wanted done. We ended up choosing to do siding (James Hardie fiber cement) gutters, inside window trim, a garage door and some reconfiguration of the front. After a few days, Kurt came back with the proposals and samples. They came in 35% lower than Home Depot, and did much more work. Total project took about 3 weeks to complete. Kurt's crew consisted of 3 guys, Eugene, Elija, and Mark. They were very professional and excellent craftsmen. The work that was done was beautiful. They transformed our house from the ugly ducking on the street to the beautiful swan that all our neighbors are jealous of. We bought a putty-colored house; let's be honest, it was ugly. Knew the old siding would have to be replaced, but thought we had a couple of years -- until rainwater started dripping into the master bathroom and guest bedroom. 3G came and did an amazing job for us in early 2017. Kurt gave us a lot of insight about water damage, materials etc and even let us use his special camera to check around in the attic for roof leaks. They helped us find and fix dry rot issues, deal with water damage, and more. Our experience was very much like many other positive reviews here, but let me add one telling detail. This year we discovered that there was a problem involving the new siding near the dryer exhaust vent. Obviously it wasn't a huge issue (because it took a year to realize it) but it did need to be fixed. I emailed 3G on a Friday, they replied immediately, and the very next day - on the weekend! - our crew chief Vadym drove out and cheerfully fixed the problem in about 15 minutes. That's a level of commitment and service that's very hard to find these days! I recommend 3G very highly. A business with great integrity as well as skill. read more

We just completed having new siding installed on our entire house. We were prepared for the prolonged inconvenience but the process went much quicker than anticipated. We had initially considered having only spot repairs to our siding but ultimately decided to do the entire house. After estimates from several different companies we chose 3 Generations and are we happy we did. We picked prepainted Hardy siding along with the appropriate Hardy trim. Alex and his crew did a fantastic job. They were here every day as promised, worked their tails off and cleaned up everything before leaving each night. The job was completed last week but not before our workers finished every last detail of the job. We have had so many compliments from neighbors and we could not be happier with the job that 3G did. And the best thing is that we will not have to worry about painting our house for a long time as the preprinted siding comes with an extended warranty. We had Jeremy Owens and the 3 Generations team put in all new windows (14) in our home and polymer siding on the West and South sides of our 2050 sq, ft, home in 2010. Nine years later it all looks like it was just installed. We just had them come back and put siding on the front (North) side of our home and wrap the roof gables. Firstly, I don't like writing negative reviews but hopefully some people will find this useful. We used 3 Generations to install 6 windows, a sliding glass door, a French door and LP Smartside trim and siding. They had good reviews here on Yelp and they are a recommended installer by LP Corporation. The sales guy, Mike, seemed knowledgeable and very detail oriented. The work started on time and was going well until we noticed the new French door was smaller than our original French door. There was some discussion. They claimed it was correctly sized, we said no. Finally they said they would order a new door, but before doing so they offered us $500 off if we used the door as is. We said no, we wanted a new door that was the same size as the original door. So they ordered a new door, at their cost, which delayed the project by about 3 weeks as the new door was being made. After the new door was installed and the siding completed, I noticed a spot where the bottom of the siding was touching our brick patio. This didn't seem right. So I asked Mike about it and he said he's not worried about it since there is good drainage there. Hmmm. Just to check I contacted LP Corporation to verify. They said no. There should be a 1" minimum clearance between the siding and any un-flashed masonry. They also said if the siding is not installed according to their application instructions the warranty is void. By coincidence the city inspector came by the next day to do the final inspection. The inspection failed due to the siding touching the ground (masonry) and it also needed flashing above the window/door trim. Hmmm. At this point I downloaded and read through the LP Smartside application instructions. My best guess is that 3 Generations has never read these, because if they had, they would have installed the siding with the proper clearances and window trim flashing. Either that or they just ignored them which makes no sense since it would never pass inspection. Anyway, in reading through the application instructions I found several other issues with the siding installation. I pointed these out to Mike and he said he would take care of it. So after a day of fairly extensive rework they finished and it passed city inspection. But it still didn't meet LP Smartside requirements. I pointed these out to Mike. I think he had enough at this point, and he stopped returning my emails. I had enough too. Eventually we did get an email from Kurt, one of the owners of 3 Generations, he admitted mistakes were made and if I would take pictures and mark the things that needed to be fixed they would fix them. Hold on, so now I'm supposed to inspect their work and show them where they screwed up? They should be the ones to inspect it, but I guess they just can't be bothered to inspect their own work. I told Kurt to just go away. I ended up fixing the remaining bad clearances, missing caulk, missing nails, missing sealer, etc. Just yesterday I noticed that the trim piece above the right window is 4 1/2" and the trim above the left window is 4". Sigh... So beware, 3 Generations talks a good talk, but when it comes down to it they don't install things according to the manufacturer guidelines, inspect their own work, or correctly fix their mistakes. read more

Kurt stopped by a couple of times during project period(he came to us in Fremont from Sacramento!) to answer questions and monitor project progress. An easy company to recommend for siding and windows. That is their area of specialty, and I'm not sure if they even do anything else. They are located in Folsom, but had no issue traveling to work on our home in Oakland. Although the company name is 3 Generations because it was started by the grandfather, it actually is operated now by the father, Kurt Owens, and his son, Jeremy. Both are stand up guys. We had them remove our old original siding from 1947, re-bolt our foundation while the walls were open, add insulation (what an improvement), sheerwall (i.e. add OSB/plywood to create greater structural stability and also a flat surface for the siding), a moisture protection barrier, Hardieplank cement fiber siding that was manufactured to match the color or our house (a 15 year warranty on not needing to paint, and a 30 year warranty on the siding itself), and added or replaced 11 windows with Milgard Essence Low-E, double pane windows (warrantied for life). We received 3 bids. One company you'll find good reviews for too was about $20k (!) higher; word on the street is they sub all their work out, but got greedy and have high mark-up to get a substantial profit after paying the sub. The other company was about the same price as 3G, but primarily did roofing. I also have a window/glass guy, but he doesn't do siding. I ultimately was swayed by the fact that siding and windows is what 3G is licensed for and it's all they do. It shows. Their attention to detail and wealth of experience was evident throughout the project. Two of the other contractors mentioned above and with whom I have ongoing relationships, came by our house for other matters during the project and each were SUPER complimentary of the work being done, downright admiring certain details and telling me that, though they'd like the work, they each felt we made the right decision as the work done was clearly very professional. Kurt and Jeremy also were very responsive to my many calls and emails about various details and follow up on every open item. Their crew was outstanding and clearly could build a home from scratch if asked. We'll definitely have them return to replace some additional windows and do more siding on other parts of our house. We literally have people ringing our bell asking about the company and product. With much trepidation we contacted 3 Generations about residing our home. We had been warned that what we might find under the original siding may be bigger than what we would want to deal with. But because of reaccuring leaks coming through 30 year old siding, we needed to move forward. We had 3 Generations and other companies out to discuss the project and we came back to 3 Generations to do the work because 1. They were very professional and extremely knowledgable about what might be lurking under the original siding, 2. Willing to work with us regarding decks that needed to be rebuilt at the same time, providing referrals and giving us advice on how to prioritize them with this project. 3. Were able to knowledgably address our windows which in the end, all needed to be replaced. Their estimate was clear, fair, and once we kicked off the project they were our partner throughout the entire ordeal (including mushrooms growing in the wood under our siding). We live on the Napa river and the homes here are very exposed to weather and lots of water. The team that Kurt orgainzed to work on the siding, windows, decks and everything else on the outside that had dissolved away over the years and needed to be fixed, were great. This turned into a 6 week project but we are soooo happy with the final result. As the cost of the project went up and up and up, Kurt with 3 Generations worked to help consolidate costs, give bulk discounting and everything else within his power to help our dollar go further and to get this project finished in the way it needed to be (and frankly we had committed to once the project began). They were professional and empathetic all along the way. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn't hesitate to have them lead it all over again. This company did our entire siding, trim and all of our windows of our home and garage with Hardiplank as well as the trim material. (Not all siding companies do this-because it is harder to work with than wood trim).They also did repairs on the dry rot and redid our railing for the unit we have above the garage. This is not the first time we have used 3G. They started by helping us out with a dryrot problem a few years ago that including reskinning the chimney and two sides of the house with Hardiboard. That went so well, and we were so pleased with everything that we called them back out to a couple of years later to do the other two sides of the house in Hardiboard. We have been in the same house for 34 years and done a lot of work, and worked with a lot of contractors over the years. But 3G is heads and above the best we have ever dealt with on any project. Their prices are reasonable (not the cheapest and not the highest either), the quality of their work is outstanding. Now people use words like outstanding, fantastic, and others a lot. Let me explain what I mean by outstanding: - The workmanship is neat, clean, everything fits as it should, there are no gaps or cracks ANYWHERE. - The are the neatest, cleanest group I have ever seen. They clean up at the end of each day and they even sweep up their mess, each day. - When the project is done, they go over every little detail with you and make sure you are happy with the job. - The project managers, and the carpenters treat you like you are the only customer in the world. - In every aspect, they go above and meet and exceed all expectations. First said, as clients, we are extremely detail oriented and have had extensive experience with contractors on major projects (multiple houses) over the past thirty years. Our recent experience with 3G Home Improvements to replace the siding of our home in Foster City, install new gutters, and paint the eaves was the smoothest construction project that we have ever had. Initially, we interviewed multiple contractors. Kurt Owens of 3G stood out for his very professional attitude, his thorough analysis, and detailed explanations of the various options to consider. He pointed out a number of areas that needed special consideration. We were very impressed with his knowledge of the various products and the specifications for their installation. It took several in person meetings to firm up the details of the project. Vladimir, the head of the 3G construction crew, is a master craftsman. The finished work that he and his team did on this job is superior to any other similar project that we have seen in the Bay Area. I had a wonderful experience with 3 Generations Improvements. I had 3 different contractors out to quote the job and while the quote from 3G was not the least expensive, it was the most expansive. It was due to their honesty that I chose to go with them for the project. I had them remove and replace the old siding on several walls of my home, in addition to replacing the deck and installing all new windows and a slider in the house. They actually understood the complications of working with stucco exteriors and the fact that they are prone to leaking if the paper isn't replaced properly. They peeled back the stucco all around the door and did a great job of matching the existing stucco and paint. You can't tell at all that there is any new stucco and the new door is beautiful. 3Generations completed a major home improvement for my home during the summer of 2017, and I am absolutely delighted to provide this review because they deserve the highest accolades. If you want stress relief, hire 3Generations. If you want trusted professionals, hire 3Generations. They know what they are doing and will exceed your expectations. My home is a standard builder grade production home, about 25 years old and was decaying from hidden and obvious dry rot of the wood siding, trim, and window sills. The windows had failed and provided no thermal benefit. The gutters were rusted out. Over the years I tried to remedy things with painting and cutting out and replacing dry rot in obvious spots, but conditions ultimately got worse. Truth be told, these building failures could have been prevented if the original builder had done all the right things in the beginning, but there is little evidence that this builder cared about how to make buildings last. Years later, I had the problem of fixing major problems. This was not a small fix and I knew it was going to cost a lot to get a fix that lasted. It had to be done right. I wanted someone who understood weather proofing from a building science perspective, not just a window installer or siding guy who could make things look good. I wanted someone who looked at a house as a system, as an assembly of integrated parts where you have to understand how the materials and layers work together to prevent rainwater entry and to provide for drying. Homes get a lot of stress, particularly claddings (siding) and trim with rains and sun, temperature swings and ultra violet radiation. You want things to last and look good using modern sheathings in a properly insulated wall assembly. I got all I wanted and more. This is the best investment I could have made and I feel good about it. From start to finish, I worked with Kurt Owens, President of this family business and his son, Jeremy. I had difficulty blocking the time to schedule the job and they were flexible in working with me. Kurt explained everything in detail and made sure I understood why I needed to do more than just replace a window or cut out some dry rot. He proposed the siding and windows to fit my needs for quality, durability and attractiveness with consideration for my budget. I took his suggestions and am completely satisfied! He said the job would take 2 weeks and it did: on time, on schedule, within budget. No overruns! His communication and follow-up with me was beyond my expectations. The 3G's crew were remarkable on site. They worked like a well oiled machine: fast, collaborative, no mistakes. They had all the tools and materials needed on the job site and worked from 8-5, non-stop. Vladimir, the crew supervisor, is a skilled craftsman and conscientious, motivating team leader. They cleaned up the job site at the end of every day. Watching them working together was like watching a ballet. My neighbors were so impressed that they stood around and simply watched - - amazed. No one had ever seen this kind of workmanship before. The finished job not only makes my house beautiful but it also makes it feel more comfortable. It is quieter inside and the house feels tighter than before. I expect my heating bills will go down this winter and my air conditioning bills have already receded. In fact during one of our unusual over 100 degree days this past summer, I didn't have to turn the air conditioning on until 5:00 PM. I was sorry to see the job complete because I loved having this team at my home. Working with 3Generations was a sincere pleasure! Wanted a contractor that did both siding and window installations. After looking at different types of siding we decided on LP Smartside over Hardie. Contractors that are basically certified to install LP Smartside or Hardie are difficult to find. After speaking with a couple of contractors I was lead to a rep of LP Smartside for 35 years and he recommended 3Generations Improvements in Sacramento area. Since we lived in the east bay I was somewhat skeptical of having a contractor send crews from that distance. This turned out to be not an issue at all. Kurt Owens the owner and a gentleman for sure came by the same day I contacted the company. He was already on the job in another Bay Area city. This was a surprise because of the quick response! My wife and I went over what we had in mind for new siding and windows with Kurt. He seemed very knowledgeable about the siding we wanted and although we wanted Anlin windows we ended up with Alside. Time will tell if this was a good choice. I know from a cost standpoint it was. We purchased ten new Mezzo windows, 3 with grids one we had to have changed because it was built with the incorrect grid pattern we wanted. We also decided to install new gutters. All work went smooth with Vadim (sp) as the construction lead. They did produce a lot of saw dust so watch out for that. Kurt made us feel at ease during the whole process. Always if an issue came up with Vadim he had an answer from Kurt immediately. We could feel the sincerity of Kurt knowing this work was important to us and the assurance that 3Generations always wanted for us to be ABSOLUTELY happy with the work they would do! And it was. We live in Petaluma, CA and had 3-Gen redo our siding and windows last summer. All I can say I is wow, we had a great experience working with this company and they really care about their business and their name. All phone calls and emails were returned promptly and they took a good amount of time explaining everything to us. When they first came out to look at our home, Kurt gave us some suggestions to improve insulation and energy efficiency. We have been in our home for 24 years and up until this past year our downstairs would get so cold in the winter. Well, after the new insulation, siding, and windows it's like having a new house! Our nights can dip into the 30's but even when the heat is off overnight the house has not dipped below 61. The sidIng and new windows look beautiful.
