From the beginning, he was knowledgeable, informative, and took the time to explain the scope of the project and the costs involved. We were getting quotes from several other companies, so California Energy was not automatically going to get the job. What really stood out happened later that evening when Phil, the owner, personally reached out to ask about my experience and make sure my questions had been answered, whether we decided to move forward with his company or not. Coming from an HVAC sales background myself, that immediately impressed me. I have always appreciated working with family-owned businesses, and having the owner personally follow up showed a level of involvement and accountability you do not always see. Phil and I ended up talking for a while, and I mentioned that I was also collecting bids for a complete roof replacement. I had already met with six roofing companies, but after my experience with Mitch and Phil, I figured, why not get one more estimate? Ultimately, we hired California Energy for both the insulation project and the roof replacement. This turned into a very extensive project because we had multiple other projects and contractors working at our home at the same time. California Energy has been extremely accommodating and willing to work around scheduling changes, other trades, and unexpected issues along the way. Jamie has been the project manager throughout this entire process, and I really have to give him credit for keeping everything moving. He has essentially been shuffling all the pieces around while coordinating with the other work happening at our property, making sure California Energy's portion stayed on track and that my concerns and needs were addressed. With this many moving parts, that has not been easy, and I genuinely appreciate the effort he has put into coordinating everything. I have also worked briefly with Tony, another project manager, and he has been amazing as well. Even in the limited time I have worked with him, he has been responsive, helpful, and willing to jump in where needed. John and Oscar handled the roofing work and have been excellent to work with. They have been professional, responsive, and willing to address details as they came up. The roof is now complete, and the old attic insulation has been removed. We are currently waiting for some electrical work to be finished before the new insulation is blown back in. I also have to give a special shout-out to Jose. While working at our home, he identified a pre-existing issue with our HVAC system that could have turned into a very expensive repair down the road. He did not simply point it out and move on. He advocated for us, communicated with our existing HVAC contractor, and helped everyone work together to determine what was actually happening. That process ultimately revealed that the two-year-old HVAC unit installed on our roof was defective. Because Jose was thorough enough to recognize that something was wrong and persistent enough to help get it properly investigated, our HVAC company is now replacing the defective unit. That could have been a completely different situation had he not caught it. Thank you, Jose. With a project this large and this many moving parts, I do not expect everything to go perfectly. What matters to me is how a company responds when something does come up. Whenever I have brought a legitimate concern to California Energy's attention, they have acknowledged it and worked to correct it rather than ignoring it. That says a lot to me. We still have a few minor items for California Energy to finish, along with blowing the new insulation back into the attic once the electrical work is complete. I plan to update this review once everything is officially finished, but based on my experience so far, they have earned an A+ from me. The fact that I can remember so many employees by name, including Mitch, Phil, Jamie, Tony, John, Oscar, and Jose, probably says more than anything else I could write. Each one of them has made enough of an impression that I know exactly who they are and what role they have played throughout this project. To me, that speaks volumes about the connection this team makes with its customers and the amount of work everyone has put into getting the job done right. I cannot speak to what customer service will look like years down the road, but based on what I have experienced throughout a complicated and constantly evolving project, I feel very comfortable with the company we chose. Dave told me that he carries only Anlin but their double pane windows with a sound package and it's so good as triple pane windows. The quote I got was very detailed and included window specifications. It was very handy for a geek like me who wanted to verify and confirm all the details. In my recearch I found that Anlin sound package windows reduced noise by 29 decibles, comparing to 30 decibels for triple pane Pella, which confirmed Dave's statement. I had some limited availabilities due to my schedule and Dave was good at meeting me half way to find a working times for the installation. On the day of the install the team worked calmly, steadily, with great attention to the detail. However, as we discussed installation, he insisted that no ceiling brace would be needed when the weight-bearing wall was removed, and that " a couple of two by fours" was an acceptable alternative to the standard 4 by 10 inch header. When we insisted that both a temporary brace and header were essential, his bid increased by about 50%. Grant also told us that the only window manufacturer he used could NOT make a window with the coating we desired. He refused to even call and ask them, so we did, finding they were more than happy to meet our request, at no additional cost. We were relieved to have someone else do the install. BEWARE.

When the installer arrived to take the measurements, he pulled out a tape measure. Confused, we followed up with Monika and were told that the 3D technology is only used for customers with swing doors. My contract specifically said that laser measurement was included, but that wasn't delivered. Install day: - 1 door was painted the wrong color and had to be sent back - The 3 other closet doors were hung crooked - The installer damaged my floors by screwing in guides rather than using the adhesive option we were promised and left gashes in the flooring when bringing the doors in - A 4.5" unfinished trim board (which Monika never discussed with us) was installed across the top of the closets When my wife asked the installer about these concerns, he blamed Monika for not communicating with him better. While he did apologize for the door being the wrong color, he tried to convince my wife that screwing the guides into the subfloor was the optimal approach and that our flooring contactor had lied to us when they suggested not to screw into a floating floor, but he agreed to come back the next day with adhesive to fix his mistake. After sending an email to Monika documenting these problems, she offered to reduce our remaining balance and promised to send the installer back "until we were happy." Install day 2: - I called to check in on the progress and my wife let me speak with the installer. He skirted the issue of the crooked doors by blaming the existing closet framing. I acknowledged that my house isn't perfectly square and achieving perfection wasn't possible but I asked him to get it as close as he could. He responded, "I can see you're going to be meticulous about this so I can just leave the guide with the tape and you can do it yourself" - which felt like a complete lack of professionalism - The adhesive tape is clearly visible under the guides to cover the screw holes in my flooring that went unpatched - The doors are still not level with visible gapping - Sawdust kept forming as the doors were opened and closed because they drilled the door pull holes all the way through and forgot to put hardware on the interior holes. Hardware had to be delivered the next day to fix this issue. There was nothing that felt "custom" about this experience and it definitely wasn't a "one day" project. Monika made apologies, but that doesn't change the lack of quality in the doors, the misleading website claims, or the exhausting install issues.
