For many years we have noticed Coach House Dinner driving through Rt4 and this past Sunday we decided to give it a try being Google had great reviews yet on Yelp the establishment had a somewhat dismal record. Upon entrance we were greeted with smiles by I assume the owner George and the hostess then taken to our table. Seated our waiter provided us glasses of water, utensils, and menus. The restaurant was hardly busy with about 6 tables occupied so it was pleasant and we enjoyed the atmosphere. After viewing the menus, enjoying the decor, and deciding on our dishes. Then we waited watching our waiter go over to a friend of his seated at another table to chitchat and then sit down with him for 5mins. Then he briefly helped a nearby table who asked for a to go box. After which our waiter went to sit at a corner back table by himself doing something by himself hidden from view for over 5mins. Then he gets up walks past us to go over to the other side for another few more mins. Never once in our 15mins at our table did he check in with us. After over 15mins of no service we see him walk in our direction and I mentioned to him we are ready to order. He says "OK" and walks away not to be seen for another 5mins then he pops up at the other end of the dinning area just standing around twindling his thumbs looking around for a few more minutes. At this point we are tired, hungry, and frustrated with the lack of attention, service, and interest by this waiter. We did see a younger waiter that was serving other tables actually working and serving other customers so at this point and almost 30mins in the restaurant we decided to leave. We didn't even sip any of the 2 glasses of water on the table. We stood up and walked to the front where the owner was standing and I mentioned to him "Sorry but in the 25mins we have been seated at the table we received no service and no attention. Our waiter has not been attentive at all and not even doing his job". The owner waived his hands in the air as in confusion or surprise. Sorry the negative reviews are all true. Some staff here are horrible and should not be representing this establishment if Coach House Diner wants to survive in this industry. I cannot review the food because in 30mins we didn't even get a chance to put in our orders. Shameful George - my advice - you need to make some changes with your staff! read more

Been going here on and iff sincerge 70s and nothing has changed. The food is inconsistent and some of the servers are still rude. I wasn't impressed. I ordered eggplant Parmesan without pasta and expected the chef to know that marinara sauce belongs on top of the eggplant. Not the same as it once was. The menu is blah. Salad bar is gone (it is ok to have a salad bar in NJ) and when we arrived at about 1:30 on a Tuesday, there only was 10 people in the place. We got a BLT which we thought was the safest and that only came with a bunch of chips ( pickle and cole slaw was included)Sandwich was fine. However, the prices have risen quite dramatically. Now that might be becauseof inflation but comparing to other diners in NJ, have not seen anything quite so high. Good food, but bad service. I made a Yelp account just to post this review. I come here all the time with my father. We love diners and go to them whenever we get together. A waiter I had that day was not cordial at all, very unfriendly. Was an Indian guy. Was with my dad, so whatever. Brush it off. Maybe a week later, I went to the Coach House with my friend because of the good food I usually get when I'm with my father. Well, I got the same waiter. The first thing I said when he came to our table after saying hello was that we needed separate checks. He responded by saying that we were very busy, and to hurry up and order. He literally told me to hurry up. I just sat down. This really got to me because 1. It wasn't busy. You had like 6 cars in the lot. Maybe he's not able to handle it? 2. You don't talk to a customer that way. I've worked in food service my entire life before starting my professional career, and I've never talked to anyone that way. I left, ordered but left immediately after. What prompted me to leave was the fact that he was hovering by our table, and he said something in another language under his breath more than once, I was able to hear it. Didn't want the food he was bringing out. You need to fire this guy immediately and you definitely know who I'm talking about. I was astounded that I was treated that way within 10 minutes of walking in. Never coming back. It's honestly a shame that you're letting this guy walk around and disrespect people on a daily basis. This place is freaking great! The decor is cute and cozy, the ambiance is nice and the food is good as well. Where they win the most?? Breakfast all day, unlimited salad bar option or meal plus salad bar! I was looking for that. They have a great early dinner special where for 15$ you get a drink, rolls, a large dinner plate, soup, salad bar AND a dessert. How cool is that?? We visited this place on a Saturday noon, as we were passing by. This place offers a variety of selection and you can almost find everything here. Pre-pandemic, we never had to wait to get a table. They are big inside. During pandemic, they are offering outdoor sitting. They have a large parking area, which is coming handy now. We ordered Nutella pancake, spanish omelet, iced cappuccino. Pancake and omelet came with potato. I did not like the spanish sauce they put on the omelet but other than that everything was good. Portions are large and we could not able to finish everything. If you are a sucker of high quality brunch then this place is not for you, but if you are not picky, you could give this place a chance. read more

I have been going to the Coach House diner for years, I was a great place to go for a quick lunch or dinner especially after my children sport games at Bergen Tech. I was greatly disappointed when I stopped by last week after not going there for a few years. Had a quick lunch with my wife and the food was just above bad hospital food. I got a cheese burger with fries and my wife got a panni . My burger was done to it was grey inside and the fries where cold as ice. My wife said that the sandwich was basically tasteless and cold. But the worst part was that our waiter , a man in his late fifties with dark hair . When we asked for the check after not eating much of the food on the plate, he hovered right next to us for at least 5 minutes to see how much tip we where going to leave on the table. For a $50 plus meal I just left $5, I should have not left anything. Never again there are better places to go. read more

I was trying to be considerate thinking he was just a very busy... Sunday Morning breakfast with my family was a delight at Coach House Diner today. We waited about five minutes for our table which was great since most restaurants on Sunday mornings have about a 10-20 minute wait. The food was delicious and didn't take long at all either. Can't make this up if I tried. Place is clean and we used to love to come here but unfortunately as we entered the hostess was preoccupied to even notice we were waiting to be seated. When she was done bsing we followed her to our table. After a long wait our waitress who looked like she had not bathed in years took our order. While waiting for our drinks soda I might add we literally watched her first try to get a table to order more drinks, then went to front desk to bs, then got her own drink to walk around and when she finished that drink went and filled her glass again and wAlked around some more. Okay this is just for breakfast. Finally I was able to go locally and get a good breakfast not the greatest but a hands down good breakfast of eggs bacon and hash browns.i actually enjoyed it I ordered a toasted corn muffin which was good. Had recently started going here again and wanted to give a few tries before updating my review. Well as I write this I am on my way to Chit Chat Diner having left the Coach House due to poor service. The host that was there when we walked in basically said "sit anywhere you like", it was empty so okay. We sat down. I asked my husband to order coffee while I used the restroom. The guy heard us because he was placing the menus on the table but he didn't ask if we wanted coffee. He just walked away. When I returned from the restroom my husband said no one had come to the table yet. So we waited a few more minutes while this guy chatted with staff, poured the delivery driver a cup of coffee, and finally went to get water for us. At that point we decided our business probably wasn't needed nor wanted. We said we were leaving and he said, almost with glee, "oh okay, have a nice day!" We said thank you and left. The salad bar, which was the ONLY thing that made this diner worth going to, is now gone. The food is truly inedible, the service is atrocious, and the management is apathetic bordering on rude. In NJ, the diners are plentiful; why would anyone go here when they could go somewhere else to have a good meal with adequate service? The answer: they don't. A lot of reviews I read mention that a particular employee at a restaurant was rude. I always found this hard to believe. After all, if you are in the hospitality business, rude should never be part of your repertoire. I often think that people who write about them may just be hyper sensitive to rudeness in a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of way. Go somewhere busy, expect rudeness and voila, there it is! I also challenge anyone reading this to find another review where I mention a rude employee. That is up until now. The service at the Coach House Diner sucks ass. I went there with my sister, her kids, brother in law and my elderly parents. We were seated in a relatively empty room all the way in the back of the restaurant where we proceeded to order. Almost immediately after our waiter left, they seated a large party of junior high school girls all around us. How large, you ask, about 40. I can't really fault junior high school girls for acting like junior high school girls. I expected them to scream, run around, laugh loudly and to act like idiots. And they did. Worth mentioning is that they had a reservation so management knew quite well where they were seating us and when their party would arrive. They made sure to take our order quickly before the commotion began so we wouldn't get up and leave which, of course, we would have. What I did not expect was management's reaction and their refusal to assist us. We asked to be moved and they declined but generously offered to take $10 off our bill. Insulting, yes but it wasn't about the money. It was about our meal being completely ruined. Even if it was free, it would not have been worth subjecting ourselves and especially my parents to such a lousy experience. I will go one step further....Say Bobby Flay himself was cooking our meals rather than some poorly paid line cook. Say he was at the top of his game and presented his absolute best meal ever, and was kind enough not to charge us. It still wouldn't have been worth it. The experience was that miserable. So yes, my friends, the Coach House sucks and I would tell anyone in the area to take a short drive to the 4 West Diner. Much, much better experience. read more

This is a frequent lunch stop for us during the week at the office. I'll say they usually have a pretty busy buzz of people and the staff knows how to manage the crowd. I always order off of the weekday lunch special menu because these options come with soup or salad bar and a dessert to have there or to bring with you. The portions are generous and the value is there. I gave this place only two stars because the inside of the restaurant is pretty grimy, there have been occasions where we have had to wait a very very long time for our lunch, they do not remind you that you may take the dessert that came with your meal home and the food presentation is sometimes sloppy as if it were rushed. I'll say that this is far from my favorite diner but it serves it purpose, I would like it much better if the consistency in service were there. read more

After a late night out, my friend and I were driving around looking for a diner that was open 24/7. Somehow, we stumbled upon this place. At first, it looked like a good place because even at 3:30am it was pretty busy. Once inside, we were seated right away. Inside in general is pretty big. Have both booths and tables. The menu was big but not as big compared to other diners in the area. Idk I actually liked it because it made finding something to eat much easier. To eat, of course I ordered a French Onion Soup (shocker). I also did something very risky. I felt bold. I went for it--the chicken shrimp quesadilla. My friend was not as daring at I was and he ordered a Gyro. My French onion came out first. It didn't look too appealing. The cheese on it was good but there was definitely not enough on there. Literally, it was a thin layer. In my eyes, it was just wrong. Also it was overly watery and salty. And then came our actual food. The chicken inside my quesadilla was good but there was pretty much 2 SMALL pieces in each portion...And the shrimp was just super cheap with no flavor--and there was a ton of it. Practically a shrimp quesadilla. Another sad part, it lacked cheese. Was there a cheese shortage tonight or something because writing this review made me realize that both of my cheese meals had no cheese! Super weird. The guacamole was also horrible but the salsa and sour cream was decent. In general though, no Bueno, no Bueno at all. If you go there, please do not be an idiot like me and order this, just don't do it. You have been warned. That's the last time I take a risk like that at a diner. On the up side, my meal did come with some very delicious French Fries and I enjoyed every single bite of those scrumptious things. My friend said his gyro was alright. Bathrooms were also pretty darn dirty. But the service was good and hey, at the end of the day it's a place to go that's open 24/7. We came in last night ordered our food and when we got the food we had NO cutlery (sure no biggie ). Looking for a good diner in Hackensack? This isn't it...keep driving. We saw the rating on Yelp was 3 stars, but we decided to go for it anyway because it was in front of us, it was late, and we were absolutely famished. When you walk in, you are hit with utter chaos. Maybe we caught them on a bad night or something, but the noise level here was friggin' bezerk; rowdy teens screaming, hoodlums having drinks, and fatties clamoring over the very rank all you can eat salad bar. As for the food, surprisingly, it wasn't all bad...some highs, some lows, but definitely nothing to write home about. My girl got a Reuben with fries and I went for a cheddar omelette with bacon on the side. The food was mixed in quality; the Reuben was decent (actually the fries were nice!), but the eggs and bacon were not that great. First, the omelette didn't even have cheddar, it was American cheese, and the bacon was rubbery. I have to add, the salad bar, featuring slimy macaroni salad, canned beans, and congealed bacon bits was really nasty looking, with food all over the place...on the counter, on the floor, and mixing in different containers. I was also getting queasy from the train of porkers passing by with towers of food on their plates. It was absolutely horrendous. Total bill was $25 with tip. Oh, Coachies, I used to frequent the original CH in North Bergen because it was a block away from where my ex lived. I was expecting this one to be the same exact thing and boy was I wrong. They may be sister restaurants but they are as different as me and my crazy, not-as-good-looking sister (jk Heidi). I have found both restaurants have pros and cons. Here's what I have to say about Hackensack: The cons: This one has a completely different menu. It doesn't have my usual diner go-to's that the other CH has such as black bean nachos or potato skins. Also, the food kinda sucks. Whomp whomp. I've gotten the vegetable lasagna (which didn't have any vegetables, may as well call it baked ziti) a veggie quesadilla and a Mediterranean wrap. I wish I could say this CH's food quality lived up to it's big sister's amazingness, but alas, I cannot tell a lie. Fortunately, it's sub-par entrees are all made up for by...DUN DUN DUN DUN! Pros: THE SALAD BAR. To die for. The North Bergen CH has mainly pickled vegetables which grossed me out. The Hackensack one is totally different. Fresh everything you can imagine. Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomatoes, celery, etc. They also have grape leaves, button mushrooms, corn salad, lima beans and other random stuff. Even imitation bacon, ew. (ok, so not EVERYTHING is fresh). The best part is if you get a lunch or dinner special it comes with free unlimited salad bar. The prices at this CH seem to be lower which doesn't really make sense to me but whatever. So for every time I went I spent about $9 and got two plates full of amazing make-your-own salad, and an "ehh, its edible" entree. Both restaurants have hit-or-miss service and a pretty nice atmosphere. Come here if you're like me and FREAKING LOVE SALAD and are also a cheapo. Fill up on the free salad bar, take the sub-par entree to go and feed it to your dog/husband/roommate. read more

Okay so my boyfriend is a vegetarian / vegan so coming here is great because they have the salad bar which is usually pretty well kept. It's 9.95 and unlimited so it keeps him happy while I eat my eggs and bacon :) The food is always pretty good, especially the omelette and the French onion soup. Overall the service is spot on, and there is ample parking. Sometimes it can get a little loud inside but nothing too crazy, it's not like a night club or anything. I've not been here in. While but my wife wanted to check me and I actually glad I came. The three of us had the yankee pot roast, chicken and pasta along with the coach house burger. The burger was huge, my chicken and pasta delicious and my wife's pot roast was very good also. She loved the baked sweet potato. Dessert was carrot cake which was also good. After attending a college basketball game at FDU my family of 9, went there as diners are our jam, coming from NJ and all. I set foot in the hallway, leading into the main dining room, and my foot stuck to the floor. Major bad sign. We were promptly seated at our table and everything was filthy. The menus, the table, the silverware had crusted on food, and when the waiter brought over our waters, there were left over food chunks in two of them.
