We arrived a little after 9pm. The service of the young server was perfect. He was prompt, polite and attentive to our needs. The food was as good as you can get at a highway diner. We got what we expected and enjoyed it. Desert, however, is another story. D is allergic to anything that contains caffeine. That means no coffee, tea, certain pain medications and NO CHOCOLATE. She asked me to go to the display counter and see what kind of cheesecake there was. There were many different kinds: mango, orange, caramel, banana and more. Unfortunately, this diner's idea of garnishing a desert is with a creme topping loaded with CHOCOLATE STICKS, CHIPS, AND COOKIES! (see attached photo) EVEN THE DESERT LABLED VANILLA CAKE WAS FESTOONED WITH CHOCOLATE HOO-HAH! When I mentioned this to the management, I was told, "Well, we have rice pudding and baklava." No matter how I worded it, he just couldn't seem to comprehend that a good 90+% of his deserts had chocolate which was discriminatory against people who are allergic to chocolate. I even tried to put it in another reality for him. I asked if their baker made anything with peanut or peanut butter. He replied in the affirmative. I asked if they had a special preparation area so that there were safe deserts for a child with a peanut allergy. He didn't seem to understand the premise. So, if you, or your child have ANY food allergies, I strongly suggest that you avoid the Suburban Diner at all costs. We will be doing so in the future.

The host at the desk didn't even look up for literally three minutes. No hello, no Happy Mother's Day, no "your server will be with you shortly." It then took about 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee and we had to ask to be waited on We placed our food order at the same time, and about 20 minutes later the waitress came back and asked us to confirm what we ordered. Needless to say, everything took forever after that, including getting the check. We were in the diner for about an hour and a half. Everyone understands restaurants can be busy on Mother's Day, but it wasn't busy when we got there, and even when places are busy, no one should be spending an hour and a half in a diner for breakfast. What's disappointing is that this is actually the second time we've been there since the renovation, and unfortunately we had the same experience with the service both times. I altered the Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe by substituting home fries for French fries, adding an over easy egg to the burger, and holding the lettuce and tomato. The kaiser roll held everything in place and the hot sauce was the perfect supplement to the breakfast burger. The home fries were cooked well done, which is exactly how I like them. Sure enough, the amount on the bill was $82 not $86. I pointed this out and they tried to gaslight me, saying I must' be mistaken about the credit slip. Only after I insisted that they show me the credit slip I had signed did they say "oh yes, we charge extra for using a credit card." I know some places do that these days, but (1) if there was fine print on the menu indicating they do this it certainly wasn't prominent enough (2) the bill should have had a notice there was an extra charge for paying with card (3) not returning the bill with the credit slip shows that they were counting on my not noticing (4) gaslighting me that I must have been wrong about the credit slip instead of simply saying "oh, that's the credit card charge" is really sleazy (5) the actual discrepancy was more than the 3% they claimed was the charge for using a credit card. I wouldn't really care that much about the fee if they were straightforward about it, but I really object to this kind of underhanded behavior. It left a bad taste in my mouth. We won't be back.
