We stopped into The Ridge Diner after they recently completed a major renovation and wanted to see how it turned out. We came for a Sunday morning breakfast -- it was definitely busy, but there were still tables available and the wait was minimal. The new decor looks very clean, fresh, and updated. They've done a nice job modernizing the space while still keeping that classic diner feel. It seems like they refresh things every 15 years or so, and this renovation feels very current. While we were there for breakfast, this is still very much a full-service diner with an extensive menu that runs all day -- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner options range from classic comfort food and sandwiches to pasta dishes, burgers, and more traditional diner entrées, making it an easy spot if everyone at the table wants something different. Breakfast overall was good. Coffee was decent, and I appreciated that it comes with a small pitcher so you can top it off yourself. The Cali crab cakes were excellent -- essentially a crab cake Benedict, and the cakes themselves were really tasty. The California omelet was also nicely balanced and well executed. The only miss for us was the potatoes. They looked more like sliced, boiled potatoes without much sear or crispness -- not really what you expect from diner-style hash browns. Service was fine but not especially proactive. Our server would bring things when we asked, but didn't really check in on how the food was or see if we needed anything. One thing that definitely caught my eye: the milkshakes going to another table looked stunning. We didn't order one this time, but they're on the list for next visit. I also appreciated how easy it was to pay the check by scanning a QR code right at the table -- quick and convenient, especially when it's busy. And...no credit card fee, which is always nice to see! Overall, a solid breakfast spot, especially now with the refreshed space.

After a full renovation, they re-opened a few days before Christmas, did a complete upgrade and modernized the restaurant. Service was quick, friendly staff with a cozy atmosphere. We had the left over pasta which is exactly what you think. A mix of "leftovers" mixed together. Looked odd but it worked nicely. Turkey burger was moist but was messy to eat. Avocado and steam from the patty completely destroyed the bread and it eventually just flattened up and was a hot mess. Maybe not add the avocado? Chili cheese fries were a tad spicy which was pretty tasty. Overall, it's good to have a classic diner nearby when you want simple, no fuss kinda meal. I'll be back for sure.

The Ridge Diner recently received a much-needed renovation, and it really shows. The space feels brighter, cleaner, and more modern, with additional seating that helps when they're busy (which they definitely were during our visit). I came here for a Sunday morning breakfast with family, and as someone with celiac disease, I always pay close attention to gluten-free options. I was pleasantly surprised by how many choices they offer. They have gluten-free pancakes, gluten-free French toast, gluten-free bread (which I had with my omelet), and even gluten-free wraps for sandwiches. It's refreshing to see a diner that clearly put thought into accommodating gluten-free diners. The menu has also expanded overall, with plenty of options for non-gluten-free eaters. I ordered the Southwest omelet with gluten-free toast and was satisfied with my meal. At our table, one family member ordered the stuffed waffle (which looked really good), and another had the short ribs Benedict. The Benedict was tasty, but the English muffin was a bit overcooked and we were expecting a bit more short rib on the plate. Service was attentive despite how busy it was. Our server checked in on us regularly, and when they noticed we were going through a lot of water, they kindly left a pitcher at the table, which was very appreciated. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during peak hours, but they do utilize a nearby convenience store lot for additional parking, which helps. They also have a great-looking dessert case, but we were way too full to try anything this time--hopefully next visit. Overall, this is a solid diner option that works well for families, groups with mixed dietary needs, or even a late-night bite. With a wide-ranging menu and breakfast served all day, there's truly something for everyone.

Run of the mill diner. Fries not crispy or salty enough. The renovation looks nice. The service overall is very slow. That's good when you want to take your time. Not so good when the kids are getting antsy.

The Ridge Diner 125 Kinderkamack Rd. Park Ridge, NJ 07656 Stuffed French Toast Appearance: 7/10 Taste: 7.3/10 This restaurant is currently being renovated, but they are still open during construction. I praise management and the servers for staying open to the public while also dealing with the contractors. This breakfast plate was ok, but not at the top of my list. The name of this breakfast item is misleading because the french toast isn't actually stuffed; it's more like a sandwich. The strawberry flavored cream cheese is not infused inside the toast. The cream cheese spread is between two French toast slices. When I next return, I will keep it simple and just stick to the typical breakfast items such as butter milk pancakes and over easy eggs. (I can vouch from previous experiences that their traditional plates are a winner.) #stuffedfrenchtoast #frenchtoast #ridgediner #parkridgenj #diner #njdiner #honestreview

Had a very nice lunch meal at this diner, the food is always good the service is always pleasant and you always get your money's worth. This is surly a local diner a little out dated-seems like many seniors go heed for a good meal.

    Corned beef sandwich! Mmmm!

Not too comfortable. Service was generally fine. Our server took care of us in the bar area, but she also had to deal with tables in the dining room. She did a good job. There must be another bar somewhere else because it seemed like our drinks weren't prepared behind the bar. They'd take a while to prepare after ordering and then come trickling in from somewhere else. The pickle chips, shishito peppers, wings (dry rub and buffalo), chicharon, were all great. Everyone especially liked the bee sting flatbread. The Queen flatbread was rather basic and not too popular, but I think it's supposed to be plain. Something else disappointing for me was that they don't have happy hour specials or a happy hour menu. Everything had to come from the main menu. Not much incentive for a group hitting the local spots for a fun happy hour.

The empanadas would have been very good if cooked a bit longer since they were a bit gummy inside. The shrimp ceviche was served in red sauce and was absent of a decent amount of shrimp. It was tasty but more of a salsa rather than a ceviche. The rib special lacked the promise of the flavors of the chipotle bbq sauce that was promised and described in the menu -- the pork lacked flavor. The chicken Milanese appeared to have been deep fried in a fryer rather than pan fried per tradition. This made the thin slices a bit tough and chewy which was unexpected. Disappointing that I didn't listen to my server who tried to steer me in a different direction as he advised. We haven't been wowed here the last three visits but will give it another shot in a few weeks to see if things have changed for the better. Listen to your servers, people!!

If you enjoy a good blue cheese, you would be happy with this. My friend ordered the turkey dinner. He was very happy and it had a very sizable portion. All in all a good meal. I won't be heading back to Peppercorn's anytime soon, GUARANTEED!…read more My wife and I came in and were warmly greeted by the bartender and our drink order was taken promptly and made perfectly...but that's unfortunately where the compliments end for both the restaurant and the bartender. We ordered Nachos for an appetizer and they came out cold. Cheese on the bottom was melted, whatever crap they put on top was ice cold and not melted. Not sure if this is the way they make them ordinarily, but I've never eaten nachos with cheese that was not melted ... we sent it back to be reheated and got a face from the bartender about it... didn't bode well in her favor but more to come on her shortly. Next both of us got The Godfather sandwich with added chopped bacon... it came out undercooked in some parts of the meat hut after the face for sending back the nachos, I sucked it up and just ate the edible parts... in addition to this though, they don't serve it closed. It is not an open faced sandwich, but served open-faced...not terrible, but just weird to me. Probably to prevent room on the plate for more fries to be added. So now the meal has ended, we ask for the check and notice a couple of unusual charges... I had 2 Belvedere and 7up w a lime and my wife had two Spicy Margaritas. We were each charged $25.00 for our 2 drinks...no issues...where it gets nutty is the additional separate charges listed vaguely at $7 and $4. Now the complaint isn't about cost per se, but rather the sneakiness and seemingly dishonest approach by the bartender that was unnecessary. My wife questioned the charges and we were told some nonsense about having to up charge because it was a larger glass for a margarita and it doesn'tcome in a smaller glass...WTF? First off, she didn't ask for a larger glass. Next, why isn't there just a charge for a margarita at one price? If you only serve it in one size, why do you need an up charge on a taller glass? That was the explanation for the 7.00 charge, 3.50 for each drink she had. The 4.00 charge I couldnt even make sense out of ... she explained that it was because margarita's have more than 1 liquor so she had to add an additional liquor fee. What in the holy hell is going on with the pricing for this drink???? So now as far as I can understand we have a $12.50 FLAT fee for a margarita according to its initial charge on the check. Then 3.50 extra for each drink because it is served ONLY in a pint glass... and a $2.00 per drink for extra liquor because more than 1 type of alcohol was put in the Margarita... so now a $12.50 Margarita on the menu becomes an 18 dollar upsell when no one asked for anything larger or additional, other than the way it should be poured according to the drink menu... it was sneaky, underhanded and it made us feel like we were targeted as unsuspecting patrons who wouldn't be back again and the upcharge didn't matter. Well she was right and wrong... wrong that it doesn't matter and was not wrong to do, but she was right that we won't be back again

I say reluctantly because they tried hard…read moreto be attentive, but fell short and the food, while priced like a high end steakhouse also fell short and this is why. First the positives. Lovely atmosphere. The staff was polite and kind. The manager stopped by to chat and check in. The folks with me who ate the strip steak enjoyed it. It was tasty and cooked perfectly as they requested. That's good considering it IS a steakhouse. The negatives. It is not always the case that everyone in the party likes steak or likes every steak. So a good steakhouse will do the other options exceptionally well too. Particularly the meat. Here, they did not. I like ribeye. That's my favorite. They only offer a 24 oz ribeye, however, and since none of my peeps wanted ribeye (curses on them) I was up a creek. I don't like strip or filet. Didn't want pork. But I do LOVE a wedge salad, and few places have one. Steakhouses generally do. So I was quite happy to have one. Until I had it. They did not do it well. At all. First, the bacon... while it clearly began as a few lovely generous lardons, ended up four over cooked, hard as rocks bacon chunks. The chicken was dry and terribly overcooked. Hard on the edges. I would expect a steakhouse to get the grilled chicken breast correct. And the bacon is inexcusable. When the salad costs $30, you have to nail it. Could I have sent it back? I'm sure I could have. But looking at the neighbors' table, theirs looked the same so I figured what's the point. And I didn't want to be a Karen about a salad in a steakhouse. And I wasn't holding up my table's meal for a redo on a salad. At the end of the day, if you don't get something this simple correct, it is a fail. I'm sorry to say that. Truly. But it requires addressing. There are too many other options for good steak that do these non-steak elements right too.
