    Irish Omelette
    Art C.

A good spot for omelettes I made my way to Green Star this morning for breakfast, arriving shortly after they opened. Using the Yelp map feature helped, otherwise I could have missed it completely. While there is a sign by the highway, the restaurant itself is around to the side mostly out of sight. Pearl River folks would know where it is, I was just passing through, looking for a new place to try. We got off to a great start and the place is larger and nicer than I would have expected. This is not just a breakfast/lunch place. As I looked over the breakfast menu I saw they offered a long list of omelettes. I was thinking corned beef before I arrived and at the top of the list was their Irish Omelette, which includes corned beef. While I would have preferred corned beef hash & eggs, that wasn't on the menu, so Irish Omelette it was. An Irish Omelette includes potato inside the omelette, doesn't have cheese, and has not much corned beef, onion, and green pepper. It was huge, but kind of dry, like I belatedly remembered from other times at other places where I did exactly the same thing. For me it was a poor menu choice, but what I got was just what I ordered, so good job to Green Star.

    Snapshot of menu

Warning: menu is wrong, and the owner not willing to make it right for the customer. We got BLT takeout, 4 sandwiches. The online menu on Yelp (see attached) says "served with fries" but our sandwiches were served with nothing at all, not even coleslaw and pickle (which we later learned were supposed to go with each sandwich). When we called to ask about it, the owner asserted that the sandwich never comes with fries unless you pay extra. When we pointed out that the menu specifically includes fries, he said that grub hub must have made a mistake and offered nothing to make things right for us. Oddly, if the menu was correct, we would have bought the fries, and had full bellies. Now we are all hungry AND annoyed. Never going back. We used to like this place, but we can see that if anything happens out of the ordinary, they are not willing to work with you. I doubt that they will even correct the menu; he doesn't seem to feel it's his responsibility to make sure the Yelp menu is correct.

P Picked up an order tonight. Got the deli panini with disco fries. Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe it. First the fries barely had anything on them. The panini was anything but... the bread was not crisp on the outside like you'd expect from a panini, instead it was soggy and falling apart. The corned beef was beyond chewy. I couldn't even bite through it on the sandwich, ended up taking it apart and eating a few pieces before giving up and throwing it away. This was the first time i've been here, and the last.

Friendliest place! The true diner if Pearl River. The staff is always friendly and greets you with a smile. They have fantastic breakfast specials that are very filling. The kids enjoy the waffles.

I came here for a Sunday morning breakfast with family, and as someone with celiac disease, I always pay close attention to gluten-free options. I was pleasantly surprised by how many choices they offer. They have gluten-free pancakes, gluten-free French toast, gluten-free bread (which I had with my omelet), and even gluten-free wraps for sandwiches. It's refreshing to see a diner that clearly put thought into accommodating gluten-free diners. The menu has also expanded overall, with plenty of options for non-gluten-free eaters. I ordered the Southwest omelet with gluten-free toast and was satisfied with my meal. At our table, one family member ordered the stuffed waffle (which looked really good), and another had the short ribs Benedict. The Benedict was tasty, but the English muffin was a bit overcooked and we were expecting a bit more short rib on the plate. Service was attentive despite how busy it was. Our server checked in on us regularly, and when they noticed we were going through a lot of water, they kindly left a pitcher at the table, which was very appreciated. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during peak hours, but they do utilize a nearby convenience store lot for additional parking, which helps. They also have a great-looking dessert case, but we were way too full to try anything this time--hopefully next visit. Overall, this is a solid diner option that works well for families, groups with mixed dietary needs, or even a late-night bite. With a wide-ranging menu and breakfast served all day, there's truly something for everyone.

The host at the desk didn't even look up for literally three minutes. When he finally did, he was preoccupied a d seemed annoyed with us..he grabbed the menus, brought us to a booth, tossed the menus on the table, and basically walked away. No hello, no Happy Mother's Day, no "your server will be with you shortly." It then took about 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee and we had to ask to be waited on We placed our food order at the same time, and about 20 minutes later the waitress came back and asked us to confirm what we ordered. Needless to say, everything took forever after that, including getting the check. We were in the diner for about an hour and a half. Everyone understands restaurants can be busy on Mother's Day, but it wasn't busy when we got there, and even when places are busy, no one should be spending an hour and a half in a diner for breakfast. What's disappointing is that this is actually the second time we've been there since the renovation, and unfortunately we had the same experience with the service both times. From now on, we'll gladly take the extra 20-minute ride to the River Edge Diner in River Edge. The service, food, and staff there are excellent, and you actually feel welcome and happy to be there. Food here was OK, but the service and overall experience were disappointing. We will not be going back.

Most meals came out around 12:30, but one gluten-free order was completely mishandled. One person in our group did not receive their food with the rest of us. We waited over 20 minutes while everyone else ate, and by the time we were finishing, he had only been given a small side of eggs, his main dish (gluten-free French toast) still had not arrived. We asked staff multiple times, politely, and were consistently dismissed. No eye contact, no updates, no urgency. Our server was absent for long periods (10-15 minutes at a time), drinks were empty, and no one took responsibility for fixing the issue. By 1:10 PM, over an hour after being seated, the full order still hadn't come out. At that point, we had no choice but to ask for it to be wrapped to go, since the rest of us had already finished eating. The most concerning part was the manager's response. After calmly explaining the situation, there was no apology, no attempt to correct the experience, and no effort to take accountability. Saying "I'll talk to your server" and leaving it at that is not an acceptable response to a clear service breakdown. This wasn't just a delay, it was a complete lack of coordination, communication, and basic customer service. Mishandling a gluten-free order and then ignoring the table is unacceptable. The food itself was good, but the way this was handled reflects very poorly on the staff and management. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this location based on this experience.

It looks like they are doing some work near the lobby area, possibly weather related, but it did not take away from the experience. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted right away. The staff was friendly across the board and our server Emma was great. She checked in often and made sure we were good. Even though we ordered at different times, the food still came out relatively quick. Now onto the food. We had two Godfather omelettes with home fries. They were okay, but mine lacked flavor and the hash browns were overcooked. The potato skins with bacon were good, but also a bit overcooked. The standout for me was the breakfast egg rolls. Stuffed with Taylor ham, egg, and cheese, they were juicy, crispy, savory, and loaded with gooey cheese. Easily the best thing I had. We also had the bacon egg and cheese biscuit sliders, which I was told were good. The fish and chips, on the other hand, did not hit. It was greasy, heavily breaded, and the fish was mushy inside. The fries had a slightly off taste, though not terrible. I also had an espresso martini. It was decent, not the best I have had, but still enjoyable. Overall, the experience was good. Friendly service, a clean and comfortable space, and some strong menu items mixed with a few misses. I would come back to try more, especially the Bandito Burrito, Latin Steak and Eggs, buttermilk pancakes, short rib and egg tacos, Mexicali skillet, Cuban breakfast, cheesy bacon tots, Irish Dream coffee, and Pirate's rum punch. And definitely those breakfast egg rolls again.

The service was appreciated while the food came out promptly. The prices were on the costlier side too. For a shareable, the breakfast egg rolls ($13.95) were ordered. They consisted of Taylor ham, egg, and cheese, with a cranberry ketchup. This was a different type of egg roll and they were great. The egg rolls was extremely crispy, and the cranberry ketchup had the ever so slightest cranberry flavor. There were six halves and they were large with plenty of filling. I shared the cinnamon swirl pancakes ($16.45?) and Albacore Tuna Melt ($16.45?). There were three good sized pancakes. The pancakes were solid. They were light and fluffy. I would have liked to seen more cinnamon sauce present as it was mostly only on the top pancake as they were stacked. The warm syrup was a nice touch though. The tuna melt was also pleasant. There was a nice toast on the bread with plenty of tuna present. The cheddar cheese could have been melted more. The homemade chips were crisp and thin too. Will I go back? No doubt.
