***4 1/2 stars*** I had a feeling I would be the youngest person in here by about 20 years, and that was confirmed immediately - it was basically the restaurant equivalent of seeing a Judi Dench movie in theaters. This place is a delightful time capsule that reminded me SO much of the little diner down the street from where I grew up in Hunterdon County, NJ called Ma-Dee's (which is still there). This is quintessential small town America at its finest. After passing by a few times during lunch, I decided to actually stop for a meal yesterday afternoon. I will say that the absolute worst part of this experience is the parking - you'd think that at some point in the last 40 years they would have secured more than the front area parking lot that requires you to back right into a county highway, or that at the very least they'd put down some white paint to denote some official parking spots so you don't have customers parking however they want at weird angles. I ended up parking in the back (keeping my fingers crossed that my car wasn't going to get towed for whatever reason), and had a tough time getting out without hitting some of the vehicles parked nearby. Thankfully a happy ending in that regard. I was told by an employee coming out of the kitchen to sit wherever I wanted, so I plopped down at the smaller counter off to the side. It wasn't particularly crowded in there despite it being lunch time, but everyone in there looked to be a) of retirement age and b) a resident of the nearby area. I stuck out like a sore thumb, though it probably did help that I was wearing a puffer vest. It's unusual for me to get anything other than breakfast at a diner, so I went with two eggs (scrambled) with hash browns, sausage and toast ($8!). Hit the spot. This obviously isn't Michelin-level food, but that's not why you go to a diner like this. The eggs WERE a little bland and definitely needed the pepper I added to them, but everything was perfectly fine and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you all of this food came out within two minutes. That really might be a record for something that by definition does need to be cooked to order. I was pretty stuffed after that but curious about the dessert options, and obviously couldn't turn down a highly-endorsed piece of chocolate cake. Delicious. I didn't confirm whether or not it was homemade, but that's certainly the vibe I got. The service was utter perfection. It was very obvious to everyone in there that I was making my Sparky's debut, and the staff made me feel right at home. They told me about the various celebrities that had frequented the diner over the prior few years (apparently Denzel is very nice), and were surprised to find out that I made the trek for lunch all the way from Pomona (which is literally about five minutes away but no matter). And the price point? It would honestly have been competitive during the Carter administration and I wouldn't be surprised if the prices haven't been adjusted since then. Definitely coming back with an appetite and an eye toward a very large parking spot. read more

A quintessential, quaint small-town diner that serves up the classics in a no-thrills, homey atmosphere. Food: Pretty decent. While not glamorous in presentation or packed with flavor, it's down to earth and provides some solid nutrition Location: I wouldn't embark on a dedicated trip there but it's a solid option for "food along your route". There's a liquor store across the street so you can refill on grub and spirits on your way upstate. Atmosphere / Ambiance: Homey comes to mind. It's an older establishment with long community ties. There's a bunch of baby pictures on the walls and we were told that several films have been shot there. Quality: Ingredients were good and the waitress told use they grow their own tomatoes. We went here for breakfast and were not impressed despite all the 5 star reviews. It was very crowded and loud for one thing. (We did go on a Sunday morning though.) The food was not great and my husband ended up not eating anything and sending his food back. The bacon he ordered was undercooked and if anybody had eaten it, they probably would be sick. My family and I love this place. Everything we have eaten here has been excellent. We tend to get omelets and sandwiches, and we enjoy everything every time. Picking up orders has been prompt and the staff have always been friendly. If you need a quick, tasty, inexpensive meal, really, go here and skip the other diners in the area. read more

From my personal experience, (and a few of my friends who live around here) the people here were super racist. I'm black and my friend is Spanish, but could pass for white. The waitress would not even look at me. She only specifically spoke to my friend, even to take my order. Every time I would open My mouth to speak, she would abruptly walk off. I should've left, but I ordered anyway, and when I got my plate, my bacon was burnt to a crisp, with a long blonde hair nicely placed perfectly under it. I've driven by the diner many times and live close by I only remember coming here once in the past because they're only open till 2:30 PM. And I was always at work till 5 PM. But now I work close by to where I live so I was able to drop in to the diner. This morning I had two scrambled eggs toast hashbrowns well done as requested and five strips of bacon which included a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. For the unbelievable price of $5.50. The food very good and well prepared. Hashbrowns delicious not greasy or oily. Toast with light butter as requested. I'll definitely be back for breakfast and try lunch. I just tried lunch. Pastrami on rye with french fries and a drink. It was a very nice portion of pastrami delicious, Who needs to go all the way into the city to get pastrami when you can get pastrami this good !! With tasty french fries and a large raspberry lemonade. All of this for the incredible price of $6.00!! I've eaten at well over 1000 restaurants. I'd have to say that This diner when you count in the quality of the food and the price is probably one of the best places I've ever dined at!! read more

My boyfriend and I love coming here for an affordable, delicious and filling breakfast. The service is excellent and the food is tasty! They make really good hobo's at an unbeatable price! All I can say is the food is cheap. It seems the reviews must be from locals that have a relationship with the owners which is nice to see but has nothing to do with the quality of the food. I always try and eat at local businesses but the food simply was tasteless and just bad. The service was nice but honestly that is all I can say about it. read more

I live right up the road and stop into Sparky's all the time. Good, quality diner food at great prices. This is the type of place where you come in, pick your normal booth, and, if you've been around long enough, grab your own cup of coffee. When you first walk in, the waitresses will ask if you even need to see a menu, since most people are regulars. Food tends to come out about 2 minutes after you order it as well. Sparky's loses stars because of the typical diner issues. The occasional hair in your food or lipstick on your coffee mug is not uncommon. The staff is always happy to replace the food and correct the issue but still, kinda gross. If you are looking for a local place with good, cheap food, Sparky's works. But if you are a food snob looking for a brunch that will rock your world, skip it. Also know Sparky's is only open for breakfast and lunch so don't expect them to be too pleased if you walk in at 1:30pm. read more

Sparky's as a breakfast spot. Sparky's is fine. It's cheap. It has down-home charm. The folks are nice. Cash only. It' has been a set of many TV shows and movies, which is cool. Sparky's is good for a savory breakfast. Bacon is very sweet, and some breakfasts don't come with homefries or toast, you need to order those separately. If you want pancakes or french toast, and you like to pour on syrup, go to J&B's Luncheonette, or Hogans Dinner in Stony Point. The syrup here tastes like pure corn syrup with an undetectable amount of maple. They really should offer better tasting syrup. read more

Oh Sparkys. How can you not love sparkys? I've been going there for my entire life and it is a weekly staple for my family. It use to be called The Log Cabin in those days. We use to order French fries all the time. Sparky's Diner is a place where you can go for Breakfast and Lunch. All the items on the menu are great and they always have soups of the day and hot Lunch Specials. I love going there on weekends for breakfast and we occasionally do lunch and may I recommend the Sparky's Cheeseburger Deluxe. The best cheeseburger you can get in all of rockland.
