What happened to this place? I guess there is a good reason why the parking lot is constantly more than half empty. This used to be my "go to" diner in the area, but the past two visits have been awful. The first of two visits: A lady steps up and apologizes profusely that she doesn't typically wait tables, but was asked to do so on this day as they were under staffed. Well - ok! Needless to say, the service was extremely slow, but it was the food that concerned me! I ordered an egg omelet with salmon in it and the salmon was so fishy and "off" tasting - I feared it was tainted. Someone else ordered a Chef Salad and asked for Blue Cheese dressing. The dressing had the consistency of water and tasted sour, like sour milk. This place is lucky they have yet to be sued for food poisoning customers. Just this past Thursday evening, we decided to give this place one more try. After being seated, we waited and waited and waited. A good solid 20 minutes and NO ONE came over to even say hello. We got up to walk out and told the girl who seated us that no one even stepped up to greet us, take a drink order -nothing. She just stood there staring at us, obviously couldn't give a crap that the service is non existent and unacceptable. "I just work here" I guess........ I went to the North Bergen location for dinner with a large group. The renovations made are very tasteful and they really did a beautiful job with the upgrades, very classy. As starters we ordered the grilled octopus and fried calamari. They were both delicious. We also got the lobster bisque and other soups and they were also delicious. I ordered the pork chop with mashed potatoes and jumbo asparagus and also delicious. The other guests ordered chicken parmigiana, chicken francese, broiled salmon, pan seared salmon, pork chunks and various sides and everyone was very pleased. The service was good and the cocktails were well made too. All the desserts we ordered were great especially the carrot cake which is amazing. The experience was very pleasing in every way. I hope they keep the restaurant in the beautiful, CLEAN condition it is in now and the only thing that can be improved is portion size. First time here and was definitely NOT disappointed. This is one of the few diners that provide a true 4 egg white omelette. The portion size was spot on and the whole grain toast was whole grain. This place has been here for what seems like a hundred years. I remember going when I was in high school. It's so hit or miss and inconsistent. I went on Christmas morning and had an excellent breakfast and really good service. Went in there tonight and was very disappointed we were a party of four and were sat in a booth in the way back area of the diner by the restrooms, where they seemingly forgot about us. The waitress seemed to not really understand serving etiquette. She took our drink order and came back with three of the four, which she handed to each of us, just like she ultimately did with the plates of food. There was no logistical reason for her to not place the glasses and dishes on the table. It was just awkward. The split pea soup tasted cold but it was barely warm. Chicken quesadilla was soggy, probably because of the cooked onions inside. Cuban sandwich didn't taste bad, but it was on the same roll as the French Dip, not a traditional flatter, pressed bread. Roast beef on the French dip was dry and tough and the au jus was barely warm. Overall, not a great experience but I will give them another chance. Could have just been a really bad day for them considering how it's been in the past. read more

"M'am," I uttered, "I haven't even got a menu..."Puzzled she was before she finally fetched me the menus. I went simple, for it was my first venture here. I ordered 2 eggs - scrambled - sausage, and home fries. It didn't take long for them to reach my table. The eggs looked soft, the home fries looked soft and the sausage looked intriguing. The eggs indeed were a weird texture and taste, almost powdery...like a powdery, powdered, powderpuff egg...*new show idea, the powderpuff eggs*...I digress...wait no I don't! *starring cousin Vic and the lakefront boys!*...OK, now I can move on! The home fries were soft and tasted like cleaning wipe, oy yuck...*new cleaning product idea, the home fry wipe aways* And finally, the smoked sausage...oh the smoked sausage...oh woah oh...the.smoked.sausage....it was actually half decent, I had time for it but wouldn't order again. Been coming here since 2001 and oh boy....This place has gone downhill so bad in the last year, no idea what happened but We used to come here all the time, it was a beautiful place, always packed, killer salad bar with your meal. I understand the salad bar was removed during Covid but the issue is not the lack of the amazing salad bar. I ordered the half roast chicken with stuffing $21.95 when it arrived there was no stuffing, when I asked about the stuffing they said it was under the chicken. When I lifted the chicken I was appalled at the greasy little brownie sized flat square I found, when I touched it I thought It was rubbery pudding, when I went to pick it up off the plate to remove it because I had zero intention of eating it, my husband said it looked like slimy strings were lifting off the plate from under it) it was so off putting and actually made me a bit angry that they would serve that to a customer under the premise of it being stuffing. My husband said "that's kitchen nightmares kind of stuff and laughed" I was not laughing. Tje carrots had a weird taste and it wasn't my imagination because my husband tried them and said same thing. They also had the nerve to over charge for the roast chicken meal $22.95 instead of $21.95. Yes it's only a $1 and Normally I'd let it go but after being served what I was served, no way i was going to pay even an extra dime. They corrected the receipt and apologized for the overcharge. I would not come back here for a dinner meal ever. If I ever come back it will be on a Saturday or Sunday for breakfast, that's it because the breakfast is good. But never for a dinner meal EVER..... oh and the carrot cake was burned on the edges and hard LITERALLY HARD to the touch about an inch in from the edges and top, so ate the center part. Smh.... never again. The ONLY thing that tasted good, soft and fresh was the chocolate cake my husband ordered, sorry no pic by the time I went to take pic he had finished it :) As far as service, very slow and not very attentive but I know a lot of places are short staffed. The portions were immense and everything was fresh and delicious. My dad devoured his omelette; he said it was amazing. The bacon was crispy and so good! This is a diner that's been around a long time. Unfortunately, the food tonight was not good at 6:45pm (dinner time). The brisket specials were almost tasteless, the corned beef special was dry and the potatoes and cabbage had this strange yellowish tint to them. Hospital cafeteria food might had been better than this experience. Tomato orzo soup was not fresh, likely sitting in the pot all day, and the potato pancakes were greasy. What a mess. Our server definitely looked like she'd rather be elsewhere. Such a shame because the place is vast, with handsome wood paneling and brickwork throughout. It could really be something but tonight the place looked old, tired, uninspired. Only saving grace tonight was the salad bar - maybe. Definitely much better after you've had a bit to drink. They do layer the cheese fries and nachos pretty well though. Lots of places just dump everything on top so none of the chips or fries on the bottom get anything. But here, they assembled the things in a way that gives coverage for everything. Solid diner. For many years we have noticed Coach House Dinner driving through Rt4 and this past Sunday we decided to give it a try being Google had great reviews yet on Yelp the establishment had a somewhat dismal record. Upon entrance we were greeted with smiles by I assume the owner George and the hostess then taken to our table. Seated our waiter provided us glasses of water, utensils, and menus. The restaurant was hardly busy with about 6 tables occupied so it was pleasant and we enjoyed the atmosphere. After viewing the menus, enjoying the decor, and deciding on our dishes. Then we waited watching our waiter go over to a friend of his seated at another table to chitchat and then sit down with him for 5mins. Then he briefly helped a nearby table who asked for a to go box. After which our waiter went to sit at a corner back table by himself doing something by himself hidden from view for over 5mins. Then he gets up walks past us to go over to the other side for another few more mins. Never once in our 15mins at our table did he check in with us. After over 15mins of no service we see him walk in our direction and I mentioned to him we are ready to order. He says "OK" and walks away not to be seen for another 5mins then he pops up at the other end of the dinning area just standing around twindling his thumbs looking around for a few more minutes. At this point we are tired, hungry, and frustrated with the lack of attention, service, and interest by this waiter. We did see a younger waiter that was serving other tables actually working and serving other customers so at this point and almost 30mins in the restaurant we decided to leave. We didn't even sip any of the 2 glasses of water on the table. We stood up and walked to the front where the owner was standing and I mentioned to him "Sorry but in the 25mins we have been seated at the table we received no service and no attention. Our waiter has not been attentive at all and not even doing his job". The owner waived his hands in the air as in confusion or surprise. Sorry the negative reviews are all true. Some staff here are horrible and should not be representing this establishment if Coach House Diner wants to survive in this industry. I cannot review the food because in 30mins we didn't even get a chance to put in our orders. Shameful George - my advice - you need to make some changes with your staff! read more

This place is freaking great! The decor is cute and cozy, the ambiance is nice and the food is good as well. Where they win the most?? Breakfast all day, unlimited salad bar option or meal plus salad bar! I was looking for that. They have a great early dinner special where for 15$ you get a drink, rolls, a large dinner plate, soup, salad bar AND a dessert. How cool is that??
