I've been here several times since opening. This review will encompass my overall impression and also touch on my most recent experience which I was about a week ago (dec 2013) on a random weeknight. Overall, this is a great place to come for happy hour! Every trip has been overall positive and I've never felt anything other than this is a great place to go. I've had most appetizers (great happy hour deals on these) and usually get the curry laksa. The dumplings and spring roll apps are all great and I especially appreciate the vegetarian options. The decor is also really nice. I'd say overall good prices too. I love the hot chili sauces they keep on the table. I do not particularly care for the shanghai sausage, which is offered as an option with the Hanoi noodles and possible other dishes. It has a strange sweetness that I simply do not care for. Service is very good as well, and I was able to effortlessly make substitutions. Great place all around. Broth noodle portions are very large and obviously difficult to split so be prepared to take some home. Avoid the Bahn mi sandwiches, as the noodles are much better. I had the Hanoi noodles at my last visit and was very pleased (save for the sausage which simply didn't suit me- no problems with execution) and I really enjoyed it. read more

Trendy looking place but me being Vietnamese, this food is definitely americanized. Everything was a bit on the sweet side. I ordered dumplings and spicy udon. Spicy udon was not one bit spicy, it tasted like sweet and sour udon. I would give 2 stars but i like the environment and service. Food not recommended. read more

Was visiting Charleston and ordered the beef/Kimchi dumplings, the wings, and the krab rangoons. Food was not impressive for the price (compared with what I can find in NYC) and I was actually served raw chicken. Appetizers came out very slowly. Good service as the waiter took the wings off our bill immediately. Nice decor and set up but cannot recommend this place. read more

Took my family to CO for lunch yesterday and it was a very good experience. Service was excellent (though the bartender could have acted like she cared when we entered with a baby stroller). We ordered a mango spring roll, beef Po hot and regular and my wife had a curry noodle broth bowl? Wish I could more exact on the names of the dishes but all had great flavor and well prepared. My youngest had a chicken ramen noodle dish and she really didn't like the flavor, perhaps because she eats the crap you get in a bag at Publix! LOL I would go back again. read more

Sat at the bar and waited at least 5 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge me, she gave me a menu and said she'd be back for my drink order. 10 minutes later she still hadn't come back so I left. Im not sure what was wrong since the bar wasn't crowded and she didn't seem slammed, but I didn't care to stick around for that kind of service. Being a self-admitted Vietnamese food snob, I've been avoiding Co since I moved here in July. Generally, I do not do trendy Asian places because of the lack of authenticity. Also, I have a really hard time paying $12 for a bowl of Pho when I grew up eating the real deal in the hole-in-the-wall joints in Ft. Worth, TX for about $5 a pop. That being said, I decided to give Co a shot (on my birthday at that!). First off, the service was fantastic. We were seated immediately (at a community table that was quite fun) and our waitress was delightful and very helpful. I had a really nice cocktail off their specialty menu, and we sampled some dumplings and the summer rolls (one of the standards by which I measure any Vietnamese place). Both were delicious, and very fresh. I ordered the Seafood Pho for dinner, and I have to say, I was surprised at how good it was. It was NOT as authentic and flavorful as the mom and pop shops of home, but I've definitely had much worse Pho. The seafood in it (shrimp and fish balls) was very fresh and perfectly cooked. The broth was light and moderately flavorful. The standard accompaniments were all there, but I had to ask for extra hoisin and sriracha (which was brought very promptly by the food runner). Again, I have a hard time paying $12+ for Pho, but I've come to accept that that's how it's going to be in Chas (even the new Phuong in N. Chas is $10), and I have to admit that I was pleased with my meal. The others in my party had some of the Thai noodle dishes, and Banh Mi...all of which were VERY tasty (much better than Basil and MUCH less expensive). The superstar of the meal for me was the dessert. I think I found my dessert soulmate...Coconut Panna Cotta with Sriracha Caramel Sauce and toasted Sesame Seeds. Are you kidding me? I could have eaten three of these! Overall....highly recommend...especially given that we are in Charleston and severely limited on good, ethnic food choices! read more

Delicious! The Malaysian wings were the most flavorful chicken wings I've ever had. Blows away regular wings you'll get anywhere else. Try them. Also the blackberry fizz drink made with bourbon was excellent. Was very suprised by the atmosphere and food, both of which were great. good was great, service not too much. went to sit upstairs as the bartender didn't come off as friendly, though it might have just been end of second sunday vibes on her end. Sat down and waitress asked me to speak up with order. watched as table across me had few issues with wrong order items which were resolved. I asked at one point if my food would be out soon since I was self timing my meal to avoid a large parking ticket and she offered to bring out check. thought that was strange since I hadn't even seen my food yet. the food was amazing. I loved the kick from the ingredients!! was just upset that instead of offering a refill waitress offered to take my check. I finally felt rushed and just got a box. I wish I hadn't mentioned time since that became the servers main concern since it was just me gaging something for myself. read more

Travelling through the south can be tough for three vegetarians but Co made our first lunch in Charleston worry free. There were tons of options clearly marked on the menu (they even had a separate vegetarian menu -- just ask for it) and things for people going gluten free. The standouts included the tofu buns, edamame spring rolls and the vegetarian fried rice. I loved my Vietnamese coffee too. Two thumbs up! read more

The ramen taste like chicken noodle soup and the bahn mi sandwiches are masked in mayo. Great service but terrible food.

The Pho was awesome. Definitely compares with some of the best places I've been to on the West Coast.

My wife and I went here for a small lunch. We split the summer roll and a Vietnamese ramen. The summer roll was very fresh tasting. We especially like the fish sauce/vinegar dipping sauce. The ramen was very flavorful. If we had the opportunity, we'd love to try some of their other options. We were very happy with our food. read more

Went here for happy hour and ordered the pork belly buns and lemongrass lychee sake. Both were super delicious. The pork belly buns had great flavor and they put a tasty sauce on them! The bun was light and fluffy. I expected the sake to have a stronger lemongrass flavor, but it was actually pretty toned down so the lychee flavor really shined through! The sake was very refreshing and smooth and was just the right amount of sweetness without being too much! My mom ordered the spicy crab Rangoon and loved them! read more

Indeed as another reviewer wrote, CO is a real gem. Fantastic wait staff who make a gazillion trips up and down the stairs each night yet remain cheerful, attentive and responsive. The decor is sparse, modern yet warm and comfortable, offering a variety of seating from large tables with benches to small tables with chairs. The food is perfectly executed and represents a modern interpretation that carefully preserves-and respects- traditional Vietnamese flavors and textures. In particular, we appreciated the separate Vegan menu, which had a great list of options. We tried all the small dishes (tofu buns with crispy tofu, pickled cucumber and carrots, cilantro, crispy edamame; the spring roll with mixed vegetables, lettuce bed, ginger miso; and the lemongrass tofu spring roll with herbs, vermicelli, bean sprouts, peanut sauce). We then shared the yakisoba, which was made with rice noodles, tofu, cabbage, carrots, onion, zucchini, garlic, and sweet mirin soy sauce. Everything was excellent. The have a very thoughtfully selected wine and beer list and a full bar with a variety of specialty drinks. And they deservedly just were awarded the best 2012 International Restaurant by the Charleston Food Bloggers (http://blog.charlestonfoodbloggers.com/). The worst service to begin with! We stopped in on 12/27/18 to have lunch. First of all the upstairs wasn't open which we didn't know. Was seated downstairs in what appears to be a bar. It was nice , yet very very small. Our waitress was not very informed it appeared!! She neglected to tell us once we sat ... we started to order, there was no chicken available! And, it wasn't going to be available for at least 30 minutes. They use one wok to cook beef, pork, and chicken separately. Why upon sitting she didn't inform of this until we began to order. She was rude about it and I would have left. My son, had to put his pup down that morning. My son had not been eating , because of his loss. He was craving CO and wanted to go. I will never return to this place! They need to let the customer know upon sitting they are out of , or certain food is not available! I do not eat pork or beef. The only options and shrimp... We did eat there. My food was just " ok"! We did go upstairs to eat finally! Our waitress upstairs was great and tried to make up the fact we were treated poorly! Never again!!!! read more

Delicious food!! Service was really slow but our server comp'd the appetizer which was nice. Ordered the udon noodles which was so flavorful. My husband ordered the pad Thai which was pretty good but the udon was definitely better. Try the Singapore hot sauce. I liked it so much I bought two bottles to take home! read more

Love this place! My boyfriend and I were in town for the weekend and tried it out for lunch. The trendy yet comfortable atmosphere is great. We got fast, attentive service at the bar. The food and drink menu has several noteworthy items. The pork and crab spring rolls are delicious. The pho is also very good and a great value. Best of all were the unique cocktails. Ordered several dishes. It was just Okay. My wife order the Pad Thai. The Shrimp appeared raw (flimsy and chewy) and had a horrible odor too. We did tell the server and brought my wife a plate of shrimp. Texture and taste were fine the second time around. Most likely will not go back. read more

Very disappointed. I went here on a Friday night with my sister around 7. It was busy but that's normal since it's a small restaurant. We patiently waited an hour for our entree to receive a completely different dish than I ordered. Food runner claimed the ticket was right in the kitchen but that they would start on my order right away. To top it off my sisters was cold! Once our server came over 10 minutes later she claimed the kitchen screwed up and laughed! No apology or anything. I told her to box it up and that we would take the check. I understand things happen I've worked for years in Food & Bev but at least be honest when you make a mistake and apologize. Gave 2 stars since the food was ok. read more

When we walked in (7:30PM) it was fairly busy so the 25 minute wait seemed reasonable. However, an hour+ later we were getting tired. We were finally seated (9:15PM), a couple of appetizers we ordered arrived and we waited again.....2 out of the 4 entrees arrived, and we waited...finally 25 minutes later the last two entrees arrived. The excuse " We only have one wok". Tables all around us that had been seated later than we had were served, so really?? We won't be back. As to food quality. Flavors were good except mine which was too sweet. Service - the hostess and the waitress were profusely apologetic, and appeared frantic most of the time we were there. So, short staffed, incompetent kitchen, weird seating layout - I think the owners need to rethink their business model. It didn't work for us, and we saw many groups of 4 leave instead of wait for tables. When we got the bill they had taken half off two of the entrees. read more

On a recent trip to Charleston I was searching out vegan options. Charleston is very friendly that way actually - more than many other places in the south. I was by myself so sat at the bar downstairs. The bartender was a really nice guy who took my order, made sure I had plenty of fluid flowing and got me my food. He also made recommendations for an appetizer and a main entree and he was spot on. I do like a guy who knows what he is talking about. The food was very good (a little too oily to be considered great) but all vegan and tasty. I had the fried rice and the tofu spring rolls - and was very happy with both.
