So yummy! I came here with some friends, and the foods and drinks were great. One of my friends got the yellow tail sashimi, and it was amazing. Mmmmmhmmm! Wrapped up our Charleston trip with this spot as our last restaurant! My friend is vegan so we just stuck to Asian places as they just naturally have the best vegan dishes! I was happy to see that they had a vegetarian menu, and ended up ordering the crispy vegetable roll. It was good and filling. I thought that there was a tempura vegetable element inside of the roll, so was surprised when it came out and the entire roll was covered in tempura. I also got a couple of drinks, and really enjoyed the Blackberry Sake Infusion. I thought that would just be a sake cocktail, but it ended up coming out in a little container with two shot glasses. We stuck with water to drink, and ordered the bang bang shrimp and some pork & ginger dumplings to try. Both these appetizers were awesome!!! I was particularly partial to the bang bang shrimp. For our mains, I ordered the spicy miso ramen and my sister ordered the crunchy salmon poke bowl. Both were fantastic! My spicy miso ramen had a little kick from some chili oil in the broth, but was not terribly spicy, which was perfect! The portion size was also very generous and had ample noodles, pork belly, and 2 eggs! Of her crunchy salmon poke bowl, my sister said it was one of the best she's had in awhile and made sure to compliment the chef. I'm not quite sure why this place is so underrated! We loved the food. The service was friendly. Could the local use more decor? Sure. Did my server forget to give me a spoon for my ramen? Yes. But did that take away from the overall food? Nope. We'd #EatatCo again! It was my first time seeing a happy hour menu extended until 7:00 p.m., and the selections did not disappoint. I ordered the kimchi and beef dumplings and the bang bang shrimp. Great portions, great prices, and both were delicious. Since the weather was a bit chilly, I also ordered a bowl of spicy miso ramen. I was shocked when it came out--big enough to share! And did I mention it came with three thick-cut pieces of pork belly? Most places serve paper-thin slices, but not here. The noodles were perfectly cooked. After a long almost year of renovations I am SO excited CO is back!! The updated space is beautiful! The bar is fresh and clean and elegant. The new murals are thoughtfully curated and make the space feel so elevated. The Happy Hour is still one of the best In Charleston in my humble opinion. They have food ranging from $5-8 and drink options from beer, to cocktails to the star of the menu the cold flavored saki. The crab wontons and beef and kimchi dumplings are AMAZING! Menu favorites are the yellow curry on Happy Hour, the chicken pho and the curry laksa. The new staff have all been absolutely amazing and the bartender Rachel is quickly becoming a familiar face we look forward to seeing. I'm noticing that happening often as I've visited places here in downtown Charleston. I manage a restaurant in a hotel, being warm and hospitable is number 1. Anyways so I ordered the 3 course for $25. Spicy crab Rangoon, curry laksa broth and pad Thai. I know this place obviously has an American flare or influence on the food but that's expected in Charleston. Rangoons were good, a touch of spice. Laksa broth was probably the best thing I had here. Flavorful, good savory notes and the strong curry taste which I really enjoyed. Pad Thai, noodles over cooked and saturated in sauce. Then I noticed no beans sprouts (my fave texture in pad Thai) then no chicken and I'm pretty sure Napa cabbage? Not mad about the cabbage but definitely doesn't come in pad Thai. I know tamarind is a component in pad Thai, but that's all I tasted. Not a good balance of what I'm used to with pad Thai. Sweet, savory and tangy so eh. I'm sure they have some other really good dishes but after the hype I'm a bit disappointed. Glad I only paid $31 for all of this. I think I'll go back to Ha long bay for viet food down here. Not even trying to be discreet. Another staff member was eating and drinking directly diagonally from where our seats were at the bar. They were talking about how hard it is to get fired from the restaurant lol. I thought that was funny how relaxed the management is. But I rated it 3 stars because the pho wasn't good. It was just beef. Wish they added some meatballs or tendon or tripe but since this isn't an authentic place, they didn't offer it. The dumplings were more doughy. Couldn't even taste the meat or kimchi. The sauce was bland. Not spicy at all. The curry was too salty and not authentic either but the portions were huge and you do get a lot of food for the meals. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and it started off good. Ordered the tuna from the small plates. I waited for an hour for it. In that hour they tried to bring me 2 other things and I told them I didn't order it. The bartender would come over every 15 minutes and ask me what I ordered. Once the food finally comes out I asked for the check so I could pay and leave. I would have loved to try other things from the menu but I wasn't willing to wait another hour. The bartender was very distracted and would disappear for 10 minutes at a time. The poor guy beside me waited 30 minutes for a beer.
