Wow! The worst experience my family and I had today. Our first and also our last with this place. I thought it was a good place to bring my family for brunch, but we left with a nasty experience thanks to the owner(older Asian dude) treating his own kind badly. I witnessed the owner himself bringing menu, drinks and food for other tables, but we had to wait our own table from the beginning to the end. He was mostly pleasant with other customers and never even smiled at us even though we were his customers too. When we were done, the waitress came and asked if she could take our dishes for us, but then as we were we all leaving, the damn owner himself stopped my daughter and told her to clean the rest of the table . I was shocked that the owner was asking my girl to pickup after herself when he didn't ask other customers to pickup after themselves. Not to mention, after we ordered our food, I overheard the Asian man ask the waitress who took our order "No drinks?" If you only want customers to order drinks, make your menu consist only of drinks. The food was definitely not worth this experience and I would not recommend coming here. read more

In terms of this place, I think there are better places that are more accommodating to people's diets and allergies. When ordering food here, my friend had asked to remove some aspects from the panini due to dietary restrictions; however, a man kept telling him that this was not possible since it was too complicated. Then, my friend ended up attempting to ask if the sauce could be put on the side instead of being drizzled all over the sandwich, and once again the man said it was too complicated, and we can't accommodate. So my friend just ended up getting a side salad to eat. Yet, the chaos didn't end there. Once we did get our food, someone had took ours from the counter. The food was okay. What wasn't okay was the way my family and I were treated the second we walked into this restaurant. We were offered menus and chose to sit at a table while deciding what to order. All the while I noticed who I presume to be the owner, a short Asian man, attentively handing menus to and serving food/drinks to tables around us. He walked by our table numerous times without as much of a glance. When our food was finally ready, we went up to the counter ourselves to get it. Finally as we were getting ready to leave, one of the waitresses came up to our table and took away some of our dishes. After that, I thought they would clean everything else as well, so my family got up to leave. As I was leaving, the Asian man stopped me and told me to bust my own table and that they weren't responsible for that. I tried to tell him the other worker had taken some of our dishes already, but he wouldn't even listen to me. Since it was my first time coming to this restaurant, I'm not sure what the "normal" form of service is, and my issue isn't at all with the idea that I had to clear my own table. My problem is that these policies seem to only apply to certain groups at this establishment. As an Asian, I really hadn't expected this kind of treatment from another Asian. Make your policies clear, treat your customers equally, and stop fostering such a negative environment. Definitely left this experience extremely disappointed since I had been wanting to try this cafe for a while. read more

The panini sandwich was truly inspired. Many restaurants fall into the trap of gilding the lilly with garlic olive oil, obscuring the flavor of the vegetables, but not cloud forest! A staple of Davis, this shop has wonderful staff and good decor. In terms of the coffee, a recent visit this month saw that the pours are heavy (a good thing) and the pricing respectable for the current economic times (an iced caramel macchiato runs around $6 for a 20oz). A downside can be the cramped quarters as well as the lack of WIFI. The shop features a section that is meant entirely for conversation and dining; however, a lack of WIFI for a coffee shop in a college town of Davis' reputation and magnitude is mind-boggling. I went based on reviews with my sister and my mom, and we were all impressed. The staff is super sweet, and we each got a panini and sat outside to eat them. Wait time was a little bit because there were only two people working, which was understandable. I've been coming here since my sophomore year (I'm now a senior) and it's got to be one of my favorite cafes I've ever been to. It doesn't look like much outside, but this place is a hidden gem! The general atmosphere is casual and gives off a very home-y, mom-and-pop shop feel. It's a nice change of scenery among coffee shops like Philz and Starbucks. The cafe is usually buzzing with a handful of students studying or older folks getting a quick bite to eat. As a student, studying here is great (just be aware of the 2 hours of free wifi per order), although sometimes it can get a little loud with people chatting or music playing. So if you mainly study in silence, maybe go somewhere else since it's a bit of a gamble. Other than that, the service is great and the workers are always very sweet and accommodating. I usually order the Cloud Forest Panini or the Bacon, Chipotle and Cheddar Breakfast Panini, but my favorite has got to be the Cloud Forest with ciabatta bread. It has a really nice crunch to it, the spring mix is never soggy and always refreshing, and there's a nice balance between all the components. The only thing is the potato salad is pretty small, but still tastes pretty good. I'll continue coming back unless proven otherwise, but overall it's definitely a sweet spot in Davis! read more

The chipotle sauce on the sandwich was a nice surprise. It was also nice to see the place filled with work from local artists. Okay I wasn't a fan of: Filthy Dirty Chai. I love Dirty Chai's and usually get one if it's on the menu. The filthy dirty chai adds chocolate and espresso so I had to try it. They used way too much cocoa and it overpowered the chai flavor. Deffinatly good vibes here! I'm wondering around davis for the weekend and I came across this little place. They actually have 6 different kinds of chi tea here which makes the world a happy place. Theres some ultra mellow music going and the people seem to be enjoying their conversation. They also have outdoor seatimg which is perfect for a warm summer day. Everything is original and the staff here seems to be students who are intra friendly. There is a ton of art on the walls from what I assume is all local artists. All photography so I'm deffinatly glad that they support the local artist! I ordered a candy chi which is one of the sweeter drinks that they offer and it actually has satisfied my sweet tooth.
