Cloud City Cafe was our very first cafe we stopped by living right across the building - we just had moved here from California (20 hours drive) that weekend. Our refrigerator was empty for about a week and we, my 5 years old too would stop by there almost every day hungry - they had yummy cocoa, chai and breakfast. Then the following weekend I have had a long day enrolling my kid into school and two other appointments regarding surgery plus doing grocery last and returned home to find out parking lot was full (someone without HC placard parked in HC spot as well) and my biotic knee was acting out - I looked around close by and only CCC's parking lot had an availability so I didn't had to carry my groceries and fallen asleep kid far. I once looked around if it's ok to park for one night while our landlord sort out regarding HC parking spot - I saw no sign that it wasn't allowed to park overnight. Grateful I parked there and went home, across the street, crashed on bed. Next thing I knew CCC had my car towed while they were opening up the shop (I had set my alarm to move it before people come in - from seeing how popular it was) however missed it just by 10 minutes and so I went in and asked the lady behind the cashier why my car was towed - she said? "It was parked overnight and it's only for our customers, sorry," same time she had this 'oh shit, it's HER car' look in her eyes not realizing it was mine as she had seen us coming in everyday the week earlier. my first thought was well, you just had lost two frequent customers. I walked out looked around again for the certain sign upsettingly there was none. Not only my car was towed, the towing company damaged, snapped my car cable and this whole thing costed me $1,400. not saying it was their fault but could not have happened this way. we had no money from the move, am single mother/part of low income family. of course after that confusion and shock I wrote them a letter, explained the situation and requested for a solution I never heard back from them (**it has been over a year and half now). I have had this sick in stomach feeling every time I walk out home and see this "community" cafe as this doesn't follow their "Cloud City Coffee is not simply a café, it's a community. Please join us. You are welcome." stated on their website. I definitely didn't feel welcomed nor am part of that "community", at all. I have never stepped back in and made a purchase since that day, even when my friends asked me to meet there for a coffee or tea. very disappointing. note: two weeks later they then added brand new "No Overnight Parking" sign - way out of parking lot sight, as it is for the next door business shop. **I couldn't leave this review for our safety until now. read more

My favorite coffee place in seattle. Sometimes busy but the coffee is amazing and cheaper than most places if you get the card where you pay for a bunch of coffees at once. The bakery items are amazing, especially the Elvis Scone which is only available on Fridays. It isn't on my way to work anymore since I changed jobs but I used to go at least a couple times per week. read more

I'm a coffee lover, get at least one daily. So when I moved to maple leaf, I began trying every coffee shop from greenlake to Wedgwood to Northgate to find my home coffee shop. Oh my god, I can't get over the reviews for this place. People obviously love it here. I'm just not a fan. I worked nearby for several years and tried diligently to find something to like about this place because honestly, it was the closest thing to my work and I kept wanting it to work out- kind of like that toxic friend you've had for years. Most of the staff I worked with avoided the place like the plague. So.much.wasted.money.down.the.drain. Their food missed the mark almost every time, which made me sad. Their coffee usually tasted bitter and burnt and they made it way too sweet, despite requests not to. The place up the street (blue saucer) is by far better (as far as coffee goes) and I usually tried to go there or to Rooster's drive through on Lake City Way. Some of the staff here are really great though, especially the gals during the morning weekday shifts. There were a couple ahole guys working there in the afternoons that were downright rude to customers (not to me, but to other customers). read more

Good service, friendly staff, good espresso, and free wifi. Nice space inside, conducive for chatting and meeting with friends. Family-style tables, so you get to share! Only shortcoming- not enough electric outlets for devices with dwindling batteries. Otherwise great! read more

The coconut bread is amazing, my wife and I come back here simply for that. We suck down the subpar espresso just for the coconut bread. They used to have decent 1$ Drip Coffee and pretty decent espresso drinks, and then they changed beans. The new brand is not very good and the quality of the drinks has slipped because of it. Looking for good baked goods this is your place, looking for good coffee better try somewhere else, such as Allegra or Vivaci. Also their political views are a little too loud, not verbally but in every other way, which while I am enjoying my coconut bread, its just not necessary to have to look at hundreds of political posters telling me how to think and what to support. But all in all good local bakery with average to below average coffee. read more

I love almost everything about Cloud City. The people who work there are great--friendly, accommodating, etc. The baristas are talented, and the coffee is consistently awesome--strong, and not too milky. The pastries are excellent, especially the coffeecakes and the coconut bread. And I like the atmosphere--a relaxed, neighborhood vibe. HOWEVER.....the loud,screaming kids are a huge drawback. I can appreciate that Cloud City is "child friendly", but it's a bit over the top. Kids regularly shriek and cry, while their oblivious, indulgent parents either ignore their behavior, or encourage it. Try making your way to the bathroom through an obstacle course, trying to avoid toddlers playing in the middle of the floor, or toys strewn in the walkway. Having some child behavior boundaries would be great, though I doubt if Cloud City would risk alienating their fan base of local parents. read more

I love Cloud City Coffee and we'd go here more often EXCEPT: It's filthy. Seriously, they do SO MANY things right with this cute neighborhood establishment, but the floors, the kids play area and the bathrooms are dirty. Not cluttered. Not messy. Dirty, like they rarely if ever get cleaned. Maybe I'm picky, but any place that serves food should wipe all services, vacuum all rugs, and sweep AND mop all floors every single day they are open. And, steam clean those carpets and couches once a quarter if not monthly. Clean it up Cloud City and you'll get five stars from me! ;) read more

I love the Could City BLT sandwich! Hands down my favorite in Seattle so far. Lightly toasted sour dough. Nice good sized bacon strips. Fresh tomatoes. Lettuce. Mayo mustard. The bacon is warm and hot off the griddle. When you bite into the sandwich the warm sourdough, fresh lettuce tomatoes and the bacon. mmmmm If you see me there 8 out of 10 is for the BLT! ;) read more

Cloud City is the closest coffee shop to my house, so I've been there a few times. But it's not the kind of place I'd hang out on a regular basis. I don't dislike the place, it's just not my thing. They make a good drink. But their food is overpriced. And if I want to pay that much, I'd rather go someplace that will give me what I pay for. The best thing about this coffee shop, though, is the self serve station. Walk in, fill up, put cash in the box on the counter. You can't beat quick, $1 coffee. read more

Great little neighborhood coffee shop! Right near Maple Leaf Reservoir Park. You can grab a cup of coffee or a hot chocolate and then go to the park. This place is crowded on the weekends, so if you need a place to work it might be hard to find space here. Tip: bring your own mug for the drip coffee and it's only a dollar! ! read more

Cloud City is my favorite coffee shop. It's not the best coffee I've ever had in my life, but the coffee is solidly good, the pastries are great, the breakfast burritos are solid and cheap!! The best part about it is that you can run in quickly and get a $1 self-serve cup in your pajamas if you just need coffee, but if you want to stay, there is ample seating, free wifi, and a variety of food/drink options. The $1 iced coffee is my current summer pick-me-up. Yum. read more

Cloud City Coffee is the quintessential Seattle coffee shop. Cozy, a slight hippy vibe, neighborly, and high-quality. The baristas know their stuff, but neither are they aloof. You'll find people working on their laptops, scribbling in their journal, or watching after their kids as they play in the kids corner. When we went in their, we heard The National playing (always a good sign). A large side window lets evening light pour into the shop. If a coffee shop could ever summarize an entire neighborhood, this is it. read more

Alright, so after returning to Cloud City, I have to bump it up a notch. The coffee is pretty good, even though it might not be as visually aesthetically pleasing as some other places, and the baked goods and other treats are delicious. The service is good, and the play area is so great for the kids. The music is kept at a good level--not too loud. As I said in my other post, this isn't the coffee shop to go to if you want to work on your computer, but it's great for all the things coffee shops were originally great for: snacks, coffee, and socializing. read more

I visit periodically with my grandmother to drink coffee and play a round of Scrabble. They have good coffee whether you're looking for something in particular or just a drip. Their food is pretty tasty and they sell local artists' work. They have a kids' area and free wifi. A community board and books you can borrow. Overall the place is rather inviting. read more

For the greater Seattle area, this is an affordable place to get an afternoon treat right next to a wonderful park. We got a HUGE ginger peach scone, DELICIOUS slice of coconut bread, and INNOVATIVE Mexican bread pudding for $7! Not sure if we hit some special Tuesday afternoon deal, but we all enjoyed what we got. Cute decor, other food looked great, and looking forward to trying the coffee. anytime a place has exceptional coffee AND exceptional customer service, they deserve 5-stars. hands down. I'm not a snob about my cup o' joe by any means, but let's be real here... a tully's americano from campus pales in comparison to a cloudy city creation. granted, some of the students-turned-pseudo-baristas on campus aren't setting the bar too high, but you gotta give credit where it's due. cloud city employees are always so friendly; I'm easily won over by service with a smile. they have good hours for a cafe, too: 6-6 daily. do note that this is definitely your neighborhood/family-friendly joint. if you're cool with the loud volume that this entails during busy times, then you'll agree that my 5-star rating is fitting. read more

I haven't been here in a few years but was so excited to see all of the gluten free options! The food was just as delicious as I remembered. I also remembered everyone being really nice and friendly but the barista with the bangs was so rude and short. She was snappy when I asked about punch cards and then forgot my food in the microwave and I had to have someone else grab it for me five minutes later. She definitely killed the vibe. read more

One of my favorite places in Maple Leaf! Great breakfast sandwiches and pastries (especially the coconut bread and cinnamon rolls!) and super family friendly. They have a play area with toys for young kids and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to the coffee, breakfast foods, and baked goods, they also have great lunch options. It can get kinda crowded but that's just because they are such a popular destination. read more

This is the my FAVORITE cafe in all of University District/Maple Leaf/Roosevelt. Their coffee is great, and their huge selection of breakfast sandwiches, quiches, bakery items, desserts, and teas make it the best place to post up and study for a bit. Outlets to plug into are not in abundance, though, so come fully charged. Tables are mostly set for community, so space can be limited at times, but the lighting is warm and during the summer there's tons of natural light and fresh air. Not a quickest place, but they'll have you in and out in no-time. The staff are so helpful and kind. They even let me borrow their stapler one time! There are tables and chairs but also a couch and rug area that has children's books and toys, and it can sometimes turn into a bit of a jungle gym, as many families/nannies bring young ones here. Bring a set of headphones and you're good to go. This is the kind of place that makes Seattle one of the best places in the country. read more
