In late September 2025, Petland Kingsdale sold me a dog that had highly-contagious kennel cough…read more Three days later, it was confirmed as pneumonia by my vet. The puppy I bought was sick and had been on antibiotics for a month - but he was not separated from other animals when he was sold to me. The Petland Kingsdale veterinarian and employees KNEW the dog had kennel cough and did not isolate him. Petland Kingsdale willingly placed this puppy in an area where he would infect other animals (and vice versa). I can only assume this is a standard practice, as the woman who sold me my dog called it a "cold" and likened it to "doggie daycare," as diseases were passed from puppy to puppy all the time. Except for the list of vaccinations, the actual medical treatment records were withheld from me until I signed the paperwork and made the purchase. The "warranty" (as if you are purchasing a washing machine) is valid only if you take your dog to their preferred vet. I view this as a flagrant conflict of interest. Also, you must purchase food items every 90 days to fulfill your end of the warranty agreement. Important to note: In the purchase agreement, Petland Kingsdale makes no guarantee that the dog is a purebred, and it does not guarantee the of the accuracy of the pedigree/lineage. They sell puppies "as-is." They require purchasers to sign a class action waiver and an arbitration agreement. Even if their puppies were NOT from puppy mills, and they gush over how wonderful their veterinarian is, I do not have faith that Petland Kingsdale and their staff are going above and beyond to exceed the paltry USDA and Ohio standards of care. I justified the purchase thinking - this is a clean store in an upper middle class suburb - the people working here are so nice - how could THIS place support such a cruel industry!?! Sadly, they do. It is heartbreaking for owners like me who feel emotionally manipulated - we only get slivers of information from sales staff and vague, nonchalant dismissals of concerns. I have always believed that concealment is a the same as lying.

My dog hates being brushed, and I had no idea I'd been using the wrong type. Lydia clearly explained why the brush I had wasn't ideal and walked me through other options and why they'd work better. I can happily say that, for the first time, my dog didn't mind being brushed and was actually calm! She also pointed out a few treats she thought my dog would like based on what I picked out. They were in a different section I would have otherwise totally missed. She even shared a helpful resource for learning more about my dog's breeds. You can tell she genuinely cares. I have 2 cats whose food I am very persnickety about (must be high protein, organic, no fillers, lowish carb, etc). There is plenty of store front parking. I was greeted by a beautiful friendly black and white Border Collie mix (? sorry) and a gentleman who was amazingly knowledgeable about everything in the store. We spoke for a long time about cat food, cat health problems, treats, etc. and I left feeling fantastic that such a store exists just seconds from my home. This place isn't huge but makes great use of the space with a large selection of raw food and treats ranging from a raw "bar" with treats (chicken hearts, chicken feet, salmon skins, etc on a choose-your-own a la carte basis) to refrigerated and frozen items. There are many different high quality kibbles for dogs and cats in addition to toys, some beds, leashes, you name it. I just cannot emphasize enough how much my experience today resonated with their motto of "Feed your pet like you give a damn.". I did not feel like I was being "sold to" but instead educated in a friendly non-pushy manner from a fellow caring pet owner. All the things we didn't want to do and let the groomers do it right. We did a drop off (scheduled appointment) and picked her up about 2 1/2 hours later. Easy peasy and so happy with the results. This (Lennox) location has always been one of our favorites as a store to pick up things, but love that they offer full-service grooming. I've been a loyal Petsmart customer for years. I remember when they were Petzezz, for crying out…read moreloud (well, the location on Wilson Road, anyway; this store is new by comparison). We shopped at the store on Wilson Road, and then on Trabue, for years before this particular location opened. Since Grove City is closer and a bit easier to get to than Hilliard, we switched stores, and just like the other store, the staff has come to know my mom and I by name. I really like that about Petsmart. You're not just another nameless face to their staff. It doesn't matter if you're a novice or an experienced pet parent, either, which is really nice. I have taken my husky a few times to work on his behavioral issues and work on his manners. By allowing pets into the store, Petsmart has made itself a fantastic learning environment for dogs like mine, who need to work on their obedience and learn that it's not okay to be a jerk when other dogs pass him. Since I'm training my husky to be a service dog, this is crucial. He's not a perfect angel, but the staff love him and he's learning to be more responsive to me and ignore other dogs. They also have training classes available, which I might take part in before we make the cross-country move to Montana. From puppy preschool to basic obedience, the classes cover a lot, including socialization. I do not recommend bringing dogs that are super-aggressive, though. That wouldn't end very well for any dog or person you encounter. Their selection of food and various supplies is pretty good, though they don't carry a number of high-quality premium foods that I have found elsewhere. I keep track of pet food recalls like it's my second job. I know they don't carry most of the grocery store brands (like Dad's and Ol' Roy), which makes me really happy, but they have stuff like Kibbles 'n' Bits and Meow Mix, which are mostly animal by-product and "cereal," neither of which is good for your dogs and/or cats. My husky is on Wellness CORE (low-fat) dry food, and while I do not like feeding my cats dry food, they get Innova and Wellness in addition to their wet food (they get Fancy Feast). Thankfully, Petsmart does carry Wellness and Innova. All the same, I would rather not see grocery store specials on their shelves. Their prices are more reasonable than Petco, and certainly more reasonable than the snobby specialty shops, but I don't think they'd lose business if they pledged to carry only premium pet food as Petco has done. As far as pet treats go, I would rather shop online. Too many of their treats contain ingredients that have no business going into any pet's stomach. My mom did find some organic, 100% chicken jerky that is made here in the States when the Canyon Creek Ranch treats were recalled, but I think that was sheer luck. Like many Petsmarts, this one has a grooming salon for pets, a Banfield Veterinary Hospital, and an adoption center. It doesn't have a pet hotel like one of the other stores in the Columbus area (I think it's the Polaris location that does?) but I don't think the hotel is wholly necessary. They do sell some pet birds and rodents, as well as fish and reptiles, and all of their birds and small animals are vet-checked to ensure that they're healthy. They do NOT sell rabbits, ferrets, puppies, or kittens. I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to support puppy/kitten mills anyway, because those animals are badly-bred and horribly unhealthy. Instead, they host many adoption events to try to find homes for many unwanted pets. I have seen Colony Cats and Cat Welfare, as well as Tri-State Collie Rescue, among the dozens of general and breed-specific dog and cat rescues at their events. Since kill shelters also hold adoption events at local Petsmarts, many, many lives have been saved. When you check out at the register, you can also donate to Petsmart Charities, which benefits homeless pets. Friendly staff, decent selection of food and supplies, helping homeless pets, and an overall enjoyable atmosphere warrant the five-star rating, negative aspects aside.
