The team is always very enthusiastic about visiting pets. I'm often worried about them weighing my dog on the way out due to all of the unauthorized, ahem, sampling, that she does while visiting. Because the shop is smaller, and little pup is somewhat selective about canine encounters, we generally visit on weekdays when I have free time. We are usually 1 of 1 or 2 pets in the store and she has a great time. Note that the sampling station, I mean self serve treat display, is right inside the front door giving your pet ample opportunity to snack while your eyes adjust and you check for overly friendly animals in the vicinity. My wife and I visited Colony Cats, Cat Welfare, and Cozy Cat Cottage to name a few. With all of the wonderful potential fur kids we saw we didn't see the one that we just connected with. We decided to go to Pets Without Parents as it was a rescue that we had not been to before and it was just down Indianola from our house. We had no expectations when we went to PWP other than we knew that they were a smaller rescue that was located in an older house. When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by a volunteer and showed where the hand sanitizer (so that we could clean our hands between kitties). The individual who greeted us was figuratively knee deep in cleaning dog cages but, she was friendly and responsive when we had questions. There, in the center cage on the bottom was this beautiful kitten! Both of our hearts melted when we saw him, as he was nearly the spitting image of the cat we had just lost. The individual working the shelter that day let us know that those two kittens were meant to be picked up today by the person that was adopting them. Our hearts collectively dropped as then we knew that of the cats at PWP, these were the ones that we shouldn't get attached. We petted all the cats that we could, well save the brand new box of feral kittens! I am sure that in no time they'll be adoptable little fluffs! Despite not seeing a cat/kitten we connected to we decided to put in an application. The application was very similar to others you might see when adoption a new animals. Asked for references, job information, current pet information, veterinary contact, as well as things the adopter's view on declawing. Much to my surprise I received a call the very next day from the PWP shelter manager! I thought that the call may have been to clarify the application we had submitted but, it was not. The adoption on the beautiful kitten (that was meant to go home the day before) had fallen through. They wanted to know if we would like to come meet the little we had seen the day before. We quickly (and gleefully) went back to PWP to officially meet & pet this kitten. Cat carrier in tow, of course, just in case! If you adopt through PWP you get a wellness check up card for use at the vet where the animal has received their vaccines & spay/neuter. We took this offer so that we could get our new little friend checked out before we established him at our vet. This was great as he had a cold (that they were treating him for) and we were able to proceed to the next step in treatment, an antibiotic shot to help knock out the remainder of the kitty cold. The adoption contract at PWP is more heavily worded than others might be. There is a provision in it where if the contract is broken that PWP can seek money from the adopter who has broken the contract. It seems to me that this is included to bring home the gravity that is the responsibility of adopting a furkid. Oh, and I can verify that the folks at PWP do check references, which is great since they are working to place pets in well suited homes. P.S. Pets Without Parents is loud. With the pupsters looking for a new home in the adjacent room, any kitten/cat adopted from these guys will likely be a-okay with loud sounds and barking dogs. Train tracks also run right next door to the rescue. P.P.S. Our new kitten is fitting in purrfectly at home.

In late September 2025, Petland Kingsdale sold me a dog that had highly-contagious kennel cough…read more Three days later, it was confirmed as pneumonia by my vet. The puppy I bought was sick and had been on antibiotics for a month - but he was not separated from other animals when he was sold to me. The Petland Kingsdale veterinarian and employees KNEW the dog had kennel cough and did not isolate him. Petland Kingsdale willingly placed this puppy in an area where he would infect other animals (and vice versa). I can only assume this is a standard practice, as the woman who sold me my dog called it a "cold" and likened it to "doggie daycare," as diseases were passed from puppy to puppy all the time. Except for the list of vaccinations, the actual medical treatment records were withheld from me until I signed the paperwork and made the purchase. The "warranty" (as if you are purchasing a washing machine) is valid only if you take your dog to their preferred vet. I view this as a flagrant conflict of interest. Also, you must purchase food items every 90 days to fulfill your end of the warranty agreement. Important to note: In the purchase agreement, Petland Kingsdale makes no guarantee that the dog is a purebred, and it does not guarantee the of the accuracy of the pedigree/lineage. They sell puppies "as-is." They require purchasers to sign a class action waiver and an arbitration agreement. Even if their puppies were NOT from puppy mills, and they gush over how wonderful their veterinarian is, I do not have faith that Petland Kingsdale and their staff are going above and beyond to exceed the paltry USDA and Ohio standards of care. I justified the purchase thinking - this is a clean store in an upper middle class suburb - the people working here are so nice - how could THIS place support such a cruel industry!?! Sadly, they do. It is heartbreaking for owners like me who feel emotionally manipulated - we only get slivers of information from sales staff and vague, nonchalant dismissals of concerns. I have always believed that concealment is a the same as lying.

My dog hates being brushed, and I had no idea I'd been using the wrong type. Lydia clearly explained why the brush I had wasn't ideal and walked me through other options and why they'd work better. I can happily say that, for the first time, my dog didn't mind being brushed and was actually calm! She also pointed out a few treats she thought my dog would like based on what I picked out. They were in a different section I would have otherwise totally missed. She even shared a helpful resource for learning more about my dog's breeds. You can tell she genuinely cares. Easily the best experience I've had in a pet store!

The system is very clunky and old. Strange codes to interpret when issues occur. The service was decent but is now terrible. The minimum price for servicing a potential broken circuit is $80. I had a grounding rod failure which I was charged for. The collar quit working so I drop it off at the owners house and they have now had it for a week and no return phone calls. My dog has already gotten used to not having the fence and has escaped the yard. I also use the very old fashioned portable unit in the house to prevent her from going up the stairs which she has now done and chewed up my daughter's expensive inhaler prescription. Multiple texts and phone calls requesting to get the collar back have gone unanswered. Go with invisible fence.

Took my Goldendoodle to Wendy's for a grooming mid August. We recently moved to the area and needed…read morea new groomer, as we have only taken our dog to one person, and after some research I decided to try Wendy's. On the phone and in person they were very pleasant and looked busy, and they gave me a lengthy consultation, so I felt pretty good about the situation. I asked her to do "poodle paws" on my golden doodle, which means you taper in the paws very short instead of leaving them shaggy (which looks a little ridiculous at first but anyone with a dog who has shaggy paws would know why this makes things a little easier!) I even showed her pictures of what my previous groomer had done as a reference. When I went to pick her up everything looked pretty good except for the fact they took the paws SO SO short, they looked scary. But I thought, oh well, they will grow back and next time I would tell them not to go as short. Then when we got home I noticed my dog licking her paws and when I went to check it out I saw that they were BURNED from the clipper on all four paws and they had burned her upper lip raw as well. Her one paw was so bad that we had to wrap it for almost a week and put wound cream on it. Two weeks later and her paws are healed, but her lip is still healing. Seeing her in pain and uncomfortable for almost 2 weeks broke my heart, and I pray that this will not scar her for life every time I take her to a (DIFFERENT!) groomer.
