Great experience today! We used the app and set up an appointment for Ellie. We took her in for a bath and deshedding treatment, had her nails done, and some anal gland expressing. All the things we didn't want to do and let the groomers do it right. We did a drop off (scheduled appointment) and picked her up about 2 1/2 hours later. Easy peasy and so happy with the results. This (Lennox) location has always been one of our favorites as a store to pick up things, but love that they offer full-service grooming. I took my dog for their grooming service, I was not allowed to see my dog once he was finished before checking out, if I would have I honestly would not have paid the 130 dollars they charged me. They over-trimmed his beard and made him look like something other than a doodle. His face was not matted and should not have been shaved the way it was, leaving a huge bald spot in between his eyes. I will not be returning with him to this place, it seems they can only handle short haired dogs. Will be heading to pet suites next time. 0/5 stars but yelp won't let me. Edit: after further review, why would they add a doodle package if they cannot handle doodles as shown on other reviews? I made an account just for this. I want my money back. I never been to a grooming salon this terrible! My dog just had puppies and we couldn't put any type of shampoos or other scented items on her. So after a some weeks my dog had some matted areas on her legs and feet. I brought her in to get a new fresh mommy cut and wash and they berated me with questions about how matted she was. I just wanted her to get a cut and wash. Then after I left they call me again about her age. I just went to get my dog and then they skinned her fur allllll the way down. This Petco is in a large mall complex - the site formerly occupied by the Lennox Company, which was a purveyor of HVAC equipment at the location. You'd never know it as the buildings and business in the are new and fully modern and I'm guessing people newer to the area might not know or be familiar with the history or origin of the name. On this visit I stopped in to have a look at and reacquaint myself with the grooming area. In the past I used this service to help with grooming needs for a large mixed breed shepherd that I rescued in New York City years ago with assistance from ASPCA's Burgh Animal Hospital. My experience with the Petco groomer at that time was quite positive although she moved to Alaska as I recall. I did speak to someone in the grooming area here recently by telephone about their services. I was informed by that person that they do not muzzle, use cones, or similar restraints, and the preference is that owners are not in the grooming area while the grooming is underway. As I consider the possibility of grooming assistance as needs might arise, My past experience this site visit and the conversation I recently had with their staff will all inform my decisions. I like being able to shop online and do curbside pickup. Most of the time, I just run in and pick it up vs having the employees run it outside simply because I know that staff has been very limited lately and I don't mind going in. The reason I gave 3 stars is for how limited the dog food selection is. More often than not, they don't have what I want or need and I have to shop around and review more than I'd like. The other reason is because I've purchased items online just to have them not available when my order is processed. Like cat litter. It's not a huge deal but it's frustrating. I don't visit pet stores often and when I do, I tend to visit whichever one is closest to where I am at when I realize I need something. Hey! I'm just being honest. I also have several years of experience working at a pet store so you could say that my opinion is rather balanced out. This pet store is in the Lennox Center and its right on the corner near World Market and Nothing Bundt Cakes. There's plenty of parking out front and I was greeted right away. I came specifically looking for fish accessories and lo and behold that's the first department you see when you walk in. My beta fish Tito was well over due for some new rocks and plants. After browsing around a while I found everything I needed. I was really surprised to see saltwater fish in the tanks. The reptile tanks were also very clean and all the animals appeared to be super healthy. I got a solid looking water plant, a pound of rocks for the bottom of Tito's tank, and a natural looking rock décor for around ten bucks. I'd say that's pretty reasonable. The cashier was also extremely friendly and put a smile on my face. I believe her name was Jess and she was a sweetie. I can't wait to come back next week to get my niece and nephew a new pet beta. They're still pretty young so we need to start small. read more

Employees are poorly trained and do not know much about the store and product. I was trying to buy a fish that was priced at $20, but when i asked about it they said it was $60? We tried to buy a goldfish instead and they told us we needed to buy a 5 gallon tank for it, so we tried to buy a beta fish and they said the same thing. There was not a single thing in that store telling us that every single fish required so much stuff. They shouldn't even advertise their fish if they're going to turn everyone away. We would have gone above and beyond for our pet but they did not give us the time of day! Get your fish and pets somewhere else !! read more

I wanted shrimp for my freshwater aquarium. I had a specific type in mind but, unfortunately, they were out of the ones I wanted. However, I didn't leave empty handed! I called before I went in to see if they had want I wanted. They didn't, but the girl on the phone listed several other kinds so I decided to stop by anyway. She was very helpful and inviting over the phone! Impressed! When I arrived, no one knew that I called. I thought maybe I called the wrong location since who else calls about shrimp...? Nope- I called the right place. Weird. Anyway, even though my call was somehow forgotten, I was greeted and helped by a wonderfully helpful employee! She was AWESOME. She's the only reason why I gave this location a full five stars. She answered and knew almost every question I had! I trusted her judgment and opinions 100%. I ended up buying two bamboo shrimp and some other items. There was a point where the employee didn't know the answer and asked some kind of supervisor (I assumed). The supervisor lady seemed miserable. Like she totally hated her job. Didn't smile. Wasn't friendly. Just seemed grouchy. What's weird is the cashier was the same way! The cashier barely said anything and looked like she was about to cry. Girl, you okay? I mean I get it- we all have bad days, but.... you work in a pet store.... if you can have bad days in a pet store, you might need an antidepressant... Petco is a chain so I don't expect that much from it. It's got lots of cats and dogs of course. They also have the smaller animals who die months after you buy them. It also has grooming services. The employees are good depending on who is there. I recently came in to buy a few toys. It was nothing that special. They were too expensive for the quality. It also had some pretty uncaring employees. They are unable to answer simple questions like what shouldn't you feed this animal. It's probably better to do most of my pet shopping elsewhere. There are some employees who do really care about animals. It's the others who make it suck. They probably have never had a pet of their own so they don't know anything. I would stop at some other pet store before Petco. It's better to shop at the local stores anyway. There are other stores with better quality products at better prices. read more

Best dog grooming spot in the Grandview/Arlington area. I have a 8lb Pomeranian that gets matting behind her ears and often looks like a dirty mop when I bring her in bc she loves to play in the dirt The staff is very accommodating and do a terrific job. She always looks the way I expect and all her services are completed (they never forget to trim her nails or brush her teeth). I have tried other grooming places in this area and Petco is by far the best service for the best price. Oh and you can drop your dog off early if you need to and pick them up late so they are very accommodating on schedules as well. I went to see Dee on a friend's recommendation. After trying a couple different places for grooming, I couldn't find someone who was really good at grooming nor that I felt the groomer liked doing what they do for a living. Dee is a great groomer and clearly, genuinely, loves dogs. I told her my dog was skittish and wished her luck to take care of his grooming and nail trimming. When I picked him up, his 'report card' was glowing and she said he had zero issues the entire time. That made me think that it was the other groomers my dog had an aversion to and they told me he was a skittish dog. Only draw back is that the dogs are not taken through the grooming process all at once which makes for a 4 hour appointment when it would otherwise be an hour. I'm sticking with Dee. *RECENT LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE ENSURES THAT I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PETCO LOCATION. I've been a patron of this Petco for the past few years after bringing the family dog up to live with me from Cincinnati. When visiting the store and grooming salon, I was not impressed by the outdated grooming stations, but the friendly staff and close proximity to my home ultimately won me over. I've been taking my Shih Tzu, Tinker, to get groomed and am usually satisfied with our service. On Friday, we arrived early for our grooming appointment and began to discuss her grooming options. I noted on the phone when making the appointment that she had some matting around the legs (very common for this breed/ Tinker) and was told that this would NOT be an issue. The groomer stated that she could remove the matting, but would need to use one of their lowest blades. I agreed that this was okay. She almost instantly changed her mind and stated that they were not allowed to take ANY dogs that had matting and would have to ask her manager. The assistant manager that arrived was very friendly and noted that she was okay approving the grooming service if the groomer felt confident to complete. The groomer kept repeating "I would, but if anything happens, it's not on me. I'm not going to get in trouble over this!" The manager stated with she wouldn't get in trouble, but it was up to her if she felt comfortable. The groomer then ultimately said "No, I'm sorry. I'm not going to groom her." Having another appointment in 15 minutes, I left the store with Tinker. After I left, I called immediately to try to resolve the issue. APPARENTLY, Petco has a new policy in place that terrifies their groomers out of completing any services outside of a basic shampoo. According to the manager, the new policy is that if a pet is nicked or cut, they HAVE to take them to emergency vet care. And if they have to take them, then they have to take an incident report, And if an incident report is taken, then the associate's job would be up for review and that employee could face termination. While I understand the new policy and support their intent to provide our pets with the best care and service, I am frustrated at this not being disclosed at the time that I made the appointment and noted matting. I scheduled the appointment weeks prior, and would have had time to take my dog to the vet for a medical shave if it was felt that a traditional groom could not have been completed safely. My frustrations also stems from the fact that this particular groomer turned us away from our appointment a few months prior because we ran 5 minutes behind due to a bad traffic accident. I even called Petco to let them know the situation and was advised that they understood, but was turned away since she was the "last appointment". I would have liked to have seen soem consistency in this particular Petco's customer service procedures. It seems that inconveniencing a long-standing customer is not taken into consideration with the staff at this location. With this being said, I've decided not to return to Petco for any additional services. read more

Road tripping with our cat from Cincy to Cleveland on a Friday night at 6:30pm, we stopped for some dinner mid-way near Columbus and realized our cat had peed in his carrier. No wonder he had been meowing miserably for the last 10 minutes! And now my poor kitty was sitting in his own pee!! Yuck! I called around pet stores in the area and of course half of them are closed, the other half won't let you in their "groomers only" areas because their cat groomers either had gone home or had recently quit. Lovely. This Petco came to our rescue. They not only had a self-grooming station but the attendee there was super empathetic and instantly could sense our urgency. She showed us everything we needed and while the area looked like it wasn't used often, it had everything we needed - cat-friendly shampoo, clean dry towels, aprons for humans, a large tub and blow dryer. Not luxurious by any standard but certainly functional. We spent about half an hour hosing down and shampooing our miserable little kitty. He's generally quite laid back so aside from a few minutes of miserable meowing because the water was too hot or too cold, he was overall quite tolerant. Afterwards, I asked the attendant if we could purchase a towel because our cat was afraid of the dryer so he wasn't entirely dry yet. She pulled out one of their older towels and just gave it to us. And she wouldn't accept any payment for our using the self wash station. What an angel! After his bath, our poor cat was shaking so we walked him around in a bag for a while huddled up against my chest for comfort. He normally enjoys taking walks with us in the bag so we were hoping to comfort him that way. He got petted by a ton of strangers who ohhed and awed at a cat in a bag. A store attendant showed us where some of his favorite cat treats was for our little trooper. All in all, a successful visit and we were on out way. Thanks Petco! You saved us from having to show up at the in-law's with a pee-drenched cat! Much appreciated! read more

My dog has been here in the past and they have done a fine job. The last time I brought him in, however this was not the case. They didn't do what I asked at all, and they actually cut my dog, causing him to bleed, and took a very unsightly chunk out of his face. The long areas, which I asked them to focus on, were untouched. The cut was a disaster. I called back the next day, simply as a concerned pet owner, to let management know so that the same thing didn't happen to someone else's pet, and not only was the management rude and unapologetic, but I was informed that the person who groomed my dog was the manager of the grooming department. My dog has no issues with being groomed, and is by no means a special needs animal-- there is simply no explanation for this kind of treatment, and even though their prices are good, no one's pet should be placed in the care of such unprofessional people who really harmed my dog. read more

There isn't much special to say about this location. It's a pet store. The quality of some of the toys and thing of that nature is poor and you may as well buy the same thing at a cheaper store like Big Lots or a Family Dollar, but as far as consumable items, Petco does sell some nice stuff. This is where I buy my dog food, and it's a very high grade food packed with real meat and other nutrients/etc. that dogs need. Feeding your dog a rice or oat based food from a big corp is the equivalent of eating fast food for every meal. Most animal food is as mass-produced as factory farm food served to people, and no doubt equally as bad for them. I may not find Petco to be anything extraordinary, but they at least offer that. I can also vouch for the fact that their employees, the ones I have dealt with anyway, do show a love for animals. That's comforting to know. Recommendations are much more reliable when you can trust the source. read more

Once upon a time when I was in college, my roommate and I wanted a pet. Very badly. We were silly girls, wishing for such a thing when we were living in the dorms and pets were strictly prohibited. But we were both animal lovers and moving from our homes with pets to a dorm with no pets was hard on us. So we talked about it and thought it over. And decided we could sneak one and no one would be the wiser. One snowy night we decided to hop on a bus and ride it over to the Lennox area - neither of us had our cars on campus and it was too cold to walk so our only option was the bus. We rode it over to Petco, the only pet store within our reach at the time. We were ready to impulse-buy an animal. We had all intentions of buying a hamster. That would be small and inconspicuous and stay in a cage. Did I mention that we had two other roommates that we had to hide the animal from? We shared a room, so we were going to keep our pet only in our room. It had to be an animal OK with small spaces. I wanted a hamster, but when we got to the store my roommate fell in love with the rabbits. Yes, they were ridiculously cute, but I wasn't sure that would be our best option. But my roommate had already fallen in love with them, and their rabbit selection was pretty good. They hardly had any hamsters. I wanted a golden one and that night they didn't have any. They only had like two gray ones and a bunch of guinea pigs, which we didn't want. So we picked this little gray bunny. He was quite cute, and he wasn't very big. So my roommate bought the bunny for about $40. The sales associates talked to us about him a little bit, and told us that he really loved their hay. So I bought a big bag of that, some chewing sticks, pellet food and a water bottle. Then we found him a cheap cage at Target. I paid about $40 in all. The cages at Petco were so expensive! They also gave us a little info sheet on caring for a rabbit, which we knew nothing about, so we were grateful for any information. We were carrying this poor rabbit around in a little cardboard box. We got on the bus trying to hide it because I'm sure rabbits are frowned upon on buses. We were so afraid the thing was going to have a heart attack. But we made it home and set up his cage and he was all scared so we fed him and he chowed down on his hay. He seemed happy enough after that. We made sure he had everything he needed and gave him time to adjust to his new home. Man, was this rabbit crazy! I'm not sure if he was just scared from the move from the store or what, but he was not friendly. But as the year went on he never got any better. We'd take him out and pet him, but he'd try to bite us if we picked him up. He'd get so mad and dodge at us if we took him out to clean his cage, which we did regularly. We always made sure he was fed and gave him other foods on the rabbit care sheet - yogurt, lettuce, etc. He should have been happy. I didn't know until then that rabbits growled. He growled at us all the time. And he was always chewing at his cage to escape and he would sometimes - then chew everything up he could reach. And poo everywhere. He was just a bad bunny! But we'd still love him and pet him and he'd relax when we laid him on his back and pet his tummy. So maybe it's not Petco's fault at all that our bunny was so neurotic. But I'm pretty sure we didn't do anything wrong. We took care of him, never hurt him or yelled at him and gave him anything he needed. He was mean since day one. So I have to wonder - did they give him proper care from the start? I've always heard that rabbits were so even tempered, and ours was so not. I worried that maybe he wasn't treated well and he became mean. But the people at the store who we talked to seemed really great and even knew that this bunny liked his hay more than anything. The girl we talked to seemed so great with him, and maybe even a little sad to see him go. But sometimes you do hear bad things about animal treatment in pet stores. At least our bunny was very healthy and active. He was not at all sluggish or ill, just feisty as hell. But after such a crazy experience, I'm not sure that I'll buy another animal from any pet store. Especially when there are so many that need good homes from shelters. But this was the only store we could get to from campus, so if you're a student and need an animal, I guess this is the place to go, but maybe think a little harder about your decision. As far as the store goes, it was pretty nice and it did have everything we needed for our bunny. It was a great place to stock up on all his supplies. But it wasn't good when we had to go to Target to get the cage. They cost way more than we had at Petco, and we had to do something quick for his home. In the end, we did get away with having a pet. We showed the bunny to our friends, but our RA never found out and it didn't hurt anything in the end. And it was fun to have an animal around, even though he was psycho. We dropped our dog off for an 11am appointment and they told us it would be 3-4 hours. After not receiving a phone call FIVE hours later, we stopped by. The groomer hadn't gotten to our dog yet. The groomer told us our dog would be ready by close at 7pm. EIGHT hours later, our dog was ready. They charged us for items that we did not agree to. Then when we got home our dog drank a giant dish of water and was acting like she was dehydrated. The assistant manager was not trained in any sort of customer service and blamed us for matting (not actually an issue, just a story that he and the groomer came up with). It is unfortunate that we had such a negative experience at the groomer since the training was amazing. read more

I tend to have a love/hate relationship with pet stores: on one hand it's one-stop shopping for your pet needs, but on the other, the staff can be indifferent at best and the prices tend to be prohibitively high. Petco does a lot to counter that Hulk in me with staff friendliness right off the bat... there is a consistently welcoming vibe, and they can back it up with product knowledge. I have yet to stump them with the most esoteric of questions. Also, their stores are very pet-friendly: not only do they allow leashed animals into the store (which is important for the customer to size items properly) but staff is quick to offer attention, treats and toys to my dog. Naysayers can call that blatant salesmanship, but all I know is that it gets her tail wagging. Petco consistently has what I need, when I need it, and you'd think that given my love for Amazon and online shopping, what's not to love their Amazonian free shipping over $35 policy? But I do love the store and its staff, so there is something for that brick and mortar presence. Their pet grooming services are a nice plus and an obvious reason for a store visit. The only thing that keeps Petco out of the four-star category for me is their overall pricepoint. To be fair, in the world of pet store retail, they are actually pretty fair, but compared to big chain department stores and online vendors, they could be more competitive. But if you take advantage of their Petco Rewards system and their advertised specials, you can come out about even. In my eyes, it's probably a fair tradeoff for the convenience factor. read more

Usually, I love this location. Though my experience there a couple weeks ago has kept me from returning. Upon picking up my young pup, i wrapped him to keep him warm and on my way home took him with me to Petco to pick up the final touches. Unfortunately i was unable to get some details, like the food he was being weaned onto, until i arrived to pick him up. This not being my first pup I understand the risks of exposure to other dogs before the vaccinations are complete(hence me swaddling the pup and not letting him interact with any other animals or even humans). What I don't understand is a pet professional chastising me upon entering the store. You would think that the goal would be to possibly educate me. Instead the goal was to look great and show off in front of the others working. I wouldve been hella impressed if the gentleman I'm speaking of wouldve offered his help to expedite my shopping experience and minimize the risk of exposure for my pup. Instead screaming his disapproval across the check out lanes seemed to be the route he was more comfortable with. read more

Mixed feelings about this review. I was going to give it 4 or 5 stars for their service, but my experience at check-out certainly put a damper on this trip. I arrived maybe 5-10 minutes before opening since I'd been out running errands and didn't want to have to come back later. It was raining outside, and although I had an umbrella, one of the employees opened the door to let me in so I wouldn't have to get more wet. These are the small gestures that I really appreciate and make me want to return to a store. With regards to pricing and selection, it's pretty much what you'd expect for a Petco. I was able to find everything I needed, and was ready to check out within 15 minutes. For the most part, check-out was fine, but my cashier just dumped my cans of wet cat food into a bag and called it a day. Although none of my cans were dented/damaged, they very well could have been. I paid for these products, you shouldn't just toss them around so carelessly. Will still come back here because it's the most convenient location, but I really hope I get a different cashier next time (or that she starts to care just a wee bit more about her job...) read more

So to say I'm DONE with PetCo is an understatement! I made an appointment for last Saturday to have my 7th month old yorkie groomed for the first time. I was greeted by a groomer by the name of Dee, she began to tell me her years of grooming and how long she's been doing what she does, and that they would not be able to groom my Yorkie because he was in her words quote the worst matted dog she's ever seen in her life! Needless to say this statement is not true. I had to prolong him getting a haircut because he sprained his knee and was on medication, so in between that time his hair grew considerably, and yes there were some areas where there was some matting but he was not mad at all over and he certainly was not the most matted dog she had ever seen in her life. Dee took about 30 minutes to explain in some crazy medical terms what was going to happen to my dog if she were to shave him, and suggested that I take the dog to the vet and have him put under to be shaved. I left there feeling frustrated, hurt and annoyed. I then drove to German Village to a pet grooming place called All about the dogs( where I used to take my chocolate lab) I went in simply just to ask her to give me a second opinion about what Dee at pet Co had told me. The lady that works there at all about dogs took my dog in her hands felt brodys fur and said to me there's some matting but not it's not severe and were able to give him a haircut, and that the woman at Petco had no idea what she was talking about and even question how long she been a groomer. Suffice to say I am absolutely 100% done with Petco my dog is at all about the dogs right now being groomed I heard from other friends of mine that Petco is the worst when it comes to wanting to groom small dogs and specially Yorkies The groomer Dee at Petco left me feeling dismayed and disheartened. I will never shop at Petco again and I will let everyone that I know about my experience was Petco especially the one on Olentangy River Road and to never shop there again and Dee you are the worst groomer and the worst advice given EVER! read more
