I love Pet People. They're a smaller shop and very pet friendly. They have good quality products and are priced accordingly, so we tend to go more as a fun activity for the pup rather than a regular visit. The team is always very enthusiastic about visiting pets. I'm often worried about them weighing my dog on the way out due to all of the unauthorized, ahem, sampling, that she does while visiting. Because the shop is smaller, and little pup is somewhat selective about canine encounters, we generally visit on weekdays when I have free time. We are usually 1 of 1 or 2 pets in the store and she has a great time. Note that the sampling station, I mean self serve treat display, is right inside the front door giving your pet ample opportunity to snack while your eyes adjust and you check for overly friendly animals in the vicinity. This is the closest location to my house and is the one I shop at the most often. The staff is always friendly. When I walk in the door they greet me and if they're not occupied with another customer they'll ask if I need help with finding anything. If I respond that I'm there to get a bag of food, they'll follow-up to ask me if I need them to get it for me. I brought the Neurotic Corgi in for a Thundershirt one year and the staff helped me find the correct size and showed me how to properly put it on the Corgi. We get Nature's Variety which is also available at other pet stores but the Best By date is always visible on the bags at Pet People. They usually get their deliveries (of this brand at least) on Tuesday mornings. read more

I would say that this is a high end pet store, but with boutique places like Posh Pets opening up, it doesn't really qualify. This is where you go because you only buy fresh, perishable dog food that has to be refrigerated. This is where you go because you're concerned that your dog's coat isn't shiny enough, or that it's teeth aren't white enough. I can't say enough about this location. The staff here are wonderful and I really appreciate their care. PetPeople is always well-staffed. No matter how many or how few customers I have seen in there, there is always somebody available to help you. Most importantly, the staff are knowledgeable and respectful. My shepherd mix rescue can be very shy and skiddish, and can get very nervous around new people and dogs. Every time I have brought her in, I have been so pleased with how the staff are sensitive to and respectful of her boundaries, while also eager to greet her and interact with her on her terms! We had a fantastic experience in the store today. The staff were so friendly and very patient with my dog, offering her treats (which she actually accepted!) and waiting for her "ok" to pet her. She was more comfortable than I have ever seen her outside the house and was curious about all these lovely people! As we were leaving she got spooked by someone running the air pump at the gas station next door, and bolted right back into the store. The staff were awesome! They helped me coax her out the other door with treats and I really could not have asked for better assistance with my quirky dog! As our dog continues to break out of her shell and open up to new experiences, PetPeople is one of our favorite "safe" and happy spaces to bring her. read more

The top reason this is getting a five star review is the employees! They are so friendly and nice, and pretty much spoil my dog with treats and behind the ear rubs whenever we go in there. My first visit I had someone walk around with me and sort out things I should have ready at home for when our new puppy arrives and stuff that I should come back in and get (and she made me swear that I would bring the pup in with me). They have everything you could think of from hygiene and grooming to food to bedding to accessories galore. Since we own a fast growing puppy, I have come in a couple times to get an updated leash and/or collar and each time I am stressed (but in a good way) because of the array of choices. Their food selection here is another great! I am all for those organic, I can pronounce all the ingredients, kind of food choices, and their selection on dog food is A+ quality. YAY! I am SO not a pet person, but I love Pet People! So here's the deal... The mister has two cats that I sometimes get roped into caring for. And this usually involves a trip to the Clintonville Pet People for litter, food, or treats. And every time I come into the store, the people are absolute delights! They know I don't have a clue what I'm doing, so they always take care of me. They look up the mister's account in the computer and then help me find exactly what I'm looking for. I'm always in and out in about 5 minutes, so of course I love that! read more

I love PetPeople so much. They are always incredibly helpful and attentive. I've been to a few other locations and they're just as nice there, but the Clintonville location is where I shop the most. I wholeheartedly believe that PetPeople's rewards system is the best. I love getting my coupons for money off in the mail, and they usually include a coupon for a pound of free treats or 50% off a toy...something like that. PetPeople isn't the least expensive place out there, but it's what my dog deserves, so paying more for dog food with real products in it is a-okay with me :) read more

I took my stinky lab-mix in specifically to use the self-wash. While I can't comment on their food, treat, or toy offerings, I can comment on my washing experience! The wash area was in the back-left of the story and was very bright and very clean. You have the option to use one of two stand-up stalls or one of two tub stalls. I get my 70lb lab in the tub stall so I didn't have to lean over. They pull-down ramp helped him get in with ease. I had my choice of four shampoos, with special ones for itchy dogs and stinky dogs (mine). Plenty of towels and aprons to get and keep everyone dry. I used the heated industrial blow-dryer to dry my pup. THE NEGATIVE: If there is a dog in the stand-up stall, you might not have room to use the dryer. My only negative is that it's $12. Seems a bit pricey for self-serve. read more

This location continues to give us problems with our orders. Now, instead of not having our product on time, they have it to early and are calling us to tell us we need to pick up all our stuff in the back. Honestly, I love this store. It has everything we need and low prices. Upper management has been great to us and very responsive. But this local store always has issues. They're always getting new people in...maybe that's why. I'll keep shopping here as long as it's closer but I'm going to Petsmart when I can to avoid the headache this place brings. read more

I just love this pet supply store. Associates are welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable and always shower my dog with treats for which she gladly shows off her suburb sitting skills. Today's the associates were particularly helpful in picking a new dog food for my sensitive stomach pooch. They listened to my concerns and directed me to a more suitable food replacement. I can even switch my frequent food buyers card to the new food and they will honor my previous dog food purchases. Another aspect of this store which I enjoy is the DIY dog washing stations. I feel the price is a little steep at twelve dollars, but for the convenience of a professional dog washing facility it makes the price more tolerable. They provide towels, four kinds of soap, hair dryer and your house stays clean. I think I will wait till my dog is extra dirty to make it worth the price. I discovered this lovely pet supply store a little over a year ago, and I have gone nowhere else since. Let me preface this by saying I'm an animal sciences student, and I know a thing or two about animal health and nutrition. For starters, the product selection is outstanding. I could buy anything in this store and be confident that it was safe, quality, and healthy for my pets. None of that crappy commercial food you find in the supermarket. They always carry my dog's food, Canidae, and they ordered my cat's food, Solid Gold, whenever I needed it. They have toys and treats and just about everything you could possibly need. They introduced me to this really great stuff called PlaqueOff - you sprinkle it on your pet's food and it's like brushing their teeth! My dog's got the whitest teeth and freshest breath in town. (Do they make this stuff for people yet??) They've also got this neat wax stuff called Musher's Secret. My dog is out with me all the time because he's a service dog, and it does a great job of protecting his paws from the elements, hot pavement, rock salt, etc. Beyond that, the customer service and business practices are absolutely amazing. Andrea and most of the other employees recognize me and my dog (Fort) by name. He gets lots of treats and attention whenever I bring him in, and if the place is empty they let him run around a bit. It's one of his favorite places to go. If I buy him something he doesn't like or destroys in seconds, they let me return it for store credit (I haven't had to do this often). And I would like to note that, when my cat of eighteen years died last spring, not only did they let me return some of his things and donate his left over food, the staff all took the time to sign and mail me a beautiful condolences card. We take Big Guy here on a somewhat regular basis for the pet wash. Super easy to have him "walk" right into the tub. At $12 certainly beats the groomers. Have all the shampoo, towels and blow dryer you would need. We also buy his food here as well. Make sure you get the frequent buyer card! Buy 12 bags the 13th is free! My kitty has been having some issues with staying hydrated and Grayson and Tyler were soooo helpful with getting me everything I needed to help my sweet boy. Petpeople is like an insecure high school girlfriend or boyfriend asking "are you ok? Are we ok?- If i were rating just on the products they carry it would be a 5 star review. But petpeople does have one major issue. The minute you walk through the door you were greeted, which is wonderful. Excellent customer service. However, you are then instantly taken through a series of questions asking what brings you in today, do you need help finding it, and asking how your pet is doing with the particular product you were searching for. Again, this all sounds great, except for the fact that the employee will interrupt a conversation with your wife (yesterday) or interrupt a phone conversation (two weeks ago) just to get their script across. In fact, two weeks ago when I was interrupted while entering the store on the phone with a client, the employee not only continued with their script after I had greeted them and declined any assistance finding the same bag of food I come in for every two weeks, they continued to badger me with questions about what brought me in while following me up and down the isles while I was still on the phone. I understand petpeople wants their employees to appear helpful and knowledgeable but I think teaching their employees to be intuitive as to who needs assistance vs. who just needs to be greeted would go a long way. Instead, their current system leaves me feeling like every time I walk through their doors I am being interrogated. Offer help, that's awesome. But if someone declines or plainly states that they know exactly what they are looking for...you've done your job. Stop asking. Instead, petpeople seems like an insecure high school girlfriend or boyfriend wondering if you're ok. It's kinda creepy. Maybe we should see other people. read more

Semi-independent pet store, right down the street from me...can't go wrong. I love that you can buy kitty litter in bulk here--who knew? It is such a better deal, too! The service is always awesome and the people are really helpful. I cam here before adopting Lucy (my new pup!) and the guy working was so helpful and full of suggestions. Also awesome was the 20% discount I got for buying everything on the "new puppy" list. I have a senior dog, and a puppy, so I'm basically here all the time... at least twice a week. Every single time I've been here every employee has been completely exceptional. They seem to all truly like animals, and though I'm never one to actually ask for help or ask questions, I somehow always end up getting great tips from these employees. As far as the products, actual dog food seems to be pretty much the same price as everywhere else. I do have to say some of their prices are a bit higher on things like toys, some treats, beds, etc., but reference what I said above about about legit employees. Plus, they do run specials. The dog washing stations are AMAZING and it's only $10 per wash. I bring my own shampoo, but the shampoo they provide seems to be pretty legit. They have the blow drying vacuum, and plenty of towels too. I'm not gonna lie, they need a tip jar though because I feel bad that they have to clean up after the hairy dogs aka my German Shepherd Anyway, shop here. Ps. Seriously, everyone here is so freaking nice! Everything from my original review still stands. We use the enzymatic toothpaste sold here and it works great. If you get the pet people card, you get a pound of free bulk dog biscuits and get rewards for earned points. We used our reward to buy our dog a cute stuffed animal that he loved to shreds. The biscuits are all natural with tons of different shapes and flavors. I guess it was national biscuit day last week, so they sent an e-mail with an extra coupon for free biscuits! (The perks just keep comin.) We brought the little guy in and of course, everyone there just loved him and gave him lots of puppy treats. It's like taking a kid to a candy shop. With everyone being so nice and the stores being so clean and laid-back, it makes our experience that much more enjoyable as well. read more

My mom came out to visit Columbus and brought our little Westie with her. He's a picky eater with dietary issues, and unfortunately she forgot his kibble back home. She asked me to locate his food for their arrival. PetPeople was my first call to find his brand (Fromme) and type (grain-free Game Bird). They had exactly what I was looking for and were very helpful as soon as I arrived in the store. Pet People have always treated my dog, who means the world to me, right. All the employees are just so nice and always offer Koba a treat when he comes in with me (he usually declines because he's so persnickety, but it's the thought that counts!). I know that they have good quality treats that won't harm him. I spoke with an employee several weeks back about how they were getting rid of all their treats that were manufactured in China (when that whole scandal was first coming out) - he admitted that they didn't sell anything that was on the harmful list, but was doing it just to be extra cautious. That means a lot to the consumer. Their selection of dog food is great, especially since Koba has pancreatitis and has to have a special low-fat diet. And he LOVES the beef taffy - he will prance around the store with a piece of beef taffy in his mouth and you can tell he feels like a king! The store itself is on the smaller side, mostly dealing in dog and cat food and treats with some toys and high-end bath products, and a couple of coats/sweaters. They also have a self-serve bath area in the back (I've never used it, but it looks convenient). The thing that sets Pet People apart from all other pet stores is the knowledge of the staff. You can tell these are fellow pet owners and they really know their stuff, rather than some high school kid who just needed a part-time job and can't tell a rat from a mouse. Every time I go there the staff are happy to help me answer my questions and beyond, with special knowledge of the stock. I only take one star off because their prices are pretty high, esp. in an age where you can get the same specialty products online for much cheaper (e.g. pet meds). Although, this place is just down the street from me so the convenience is there, paired with a face-to-face connection. read more

I have been going here since they opened and can't say enough good things about their staff and the quality of merchandise they carry. I get everything for my dog here from accessories including harnesses, beds, car seats, cooling jacket, boots, leashes and all are top notch. Get basic food grain free dry food, 95% meat wet, and goats milk to treats like ice cream, baked good, apple and carrot snacks. Highly recommend the yak and elk horn chew toys. Dog washes are appropriately priced, easy to use, and convenient. Majority of staff has been with them since they opened or for multiple years and that says something. They know they products, they know their customers, they remember their pets, and they are super friendly and helpful. Would be nice if they had regular sale ads like a grocery or major chain, but they have a rewards program that is second to none. You will not go wrong for you, your pet, or your wallet with pet people. read more

I've been a customer here for a long time and refer my petsitting clients here as well. Today, Sarah (one of the managers I think) went above and beyond to help me out. I had brought in some unopened items that one of my clients had bought for their dog that they recently lost. They were just too sad to take care of it themselves so I asked if PP would be willing to let me return the items for a store credit which I could pass on to my clients. Sarah quickly agreed to do it and while we were managing the return, 2 other staff members (Chuck & young woman whose name I don't know) held my unruly dogs :) Only down side is one of my dogs stole a lovely chew bone which I then had to buy! Kudos to these folks who are always pleasant & helpful. Shopping here also supports a locally-owned franchise. read more

We've been here before and enjoyed the store (our dog likes it too), but this is the first time we've actually needed serious help. This time, we came here because our vet recommended it as the place to get non-wheat, non-corn, high quality dog food and treats. She was SO right. I've never seen so many choices! In addition, we needed to get a harness for a dog so he wouldn't strain his neck on walks (he's a big dog, and he wants to go where he wants to go). Melissa not only helped us to pick one out, but she also actually fit it on the dog. She also helped advise us on what dog food would be best for our senior dog. I absolutely love PetPeople! My husband and I adopted our 4-year-old husky about 3 months ago. While my husband has had dogs growing up, this is a first for me. Typically, I have multiple questions and am always learning new things when I visit PetPeople. They are very knowledgeable and want the best for their customers (both human and animals). Harnesses, training treats and anxiety products are just a few of the items that the staff has helped me find. Our dog comes in with me multiple times, and they remember him by name. While I feel absolutely horrible that he keeps urinating in the store, they haven't kicked me out for that. ;) One of the staff members also has a husky. They often try to have her work with me as she can speak with me more specifically about husky behaviors. I'm very appreciative for that, even though all of the staff members seem knowledgeable about all breeds. I'm so thankful for this location and its proximity to our home.
