One of my go to steakhouses in Bergen County. Their french onion soup is consistently good and their steaks are cooked very well. I ordered the filet mignon and tried it on two different occasions: rare and medium-rare. Boy do they hit the spot with their meat temperatures. You can definitely tell the difference and I think I actually prefer rare sometimes as I really enjoy the rare texture. Both are delicious though. Dessert was tiramisu and it was average but I'm not expecting an amazing dessert from a steakhouse. My mom and aunt enjoyed their fish so maybe I'll try that next time. Mom's a pescetarian so she's really picky about her seafood so if she likes it, I'll take her word for it. My one gripe would be the service. They can be quite rude to Asians and I've experienced this on numerous occasions which turned off a few of my guests. They also have a $20 3-course pre-fixed menu during lunch on weekdays. read more

This was my third or fourth time eating at Cliff's Steakhouse over the last few years but first review. I would definitely have this as my go to steak house if it was just a little closer to home. We met up with long time (better K?) friends of the family for a very nice evening of catch up. I had a wonderful appetizer of fresh figs, prosciutto and parmigiano reggiano chunks. A very generous portion which I happily shared. K and I split the porterhouse for two. Luckily, we both enjoy it rare to medium rare which makes sharing easy and enjoyable. This was one of the best steaks that I have eaten in North Jersey. We had some outstanding creamed spinach and well done, of course, home fries style potatoes. Wife and K Wife both had a special of veal-on-the-bone parmesan. It was pounded so thin that it was the size of a small whole pizza. They topped it with a great red sauce and fresh mozzarella. Wow! If this special was on the menu again it would be tough to choose between it and that porterhouse. Dessert was some tartufos. read more

As a Fort Lee local I have been coming here for many years since it first opened. It has always been an absolute delight. The food and service is unmatched at any restaurant I've ever been to. Went in for lunch. The business lunch special was great for $20 (Soup, Sirloin Steak and Tiramisu+ Coffee). Wasn't too busy and the steaks were great, in addition to the advantage of being right here on this side of the river. I normally order medium rare at a good location, but you may want to order a little less cooked than normal because they serve your meal on a boiling hot (literally) plate and your steak will keep cooking. I was able to cook parts of my steak after cutting it by pressing down on the plate. And I would never go to the Assembly down the block again after being here. read more

Within reason, the steak at Cliffs is pretty tender and cooked well. However, the main issue is portion sizing and the cost of said portion. Was here to celebrate a birthday dinner and after order a Porterhouse Steak for Four, I was surprised to find they only gave a total of two (2) steaks for the four (4) people to share. Not only that, but they charge you $160 for the two steaks. Sure, the steaks were good, but the portion sizing needs to be updated or the pricing needs to be brought down. Having two (2) small steaks for that many people is ridiculous. One could not argue that you are here for the atmosphere, hence why the price is so steep. The sides were pitiful as well. We had a side of sauteed spinach and were brought maybe enough spinach for two (2) people. When we asked about portion sizes, they said that is their normal size. Would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a good and cost effective steakhouse. There are other places just as good if not better for a lower amount of money spent. read more

Came here for lunch (although we opted for the dinner menu for more choices). We were treated (spoiled, even) like royals and honestly regretting not learning about this place sooner. Food: 10/5 for apps we had the burrata, thick bacon, french onion soup, and calamari, all of which exceeded expectations. For entrees we had the aged porterhouse for 3, creamed spinach, sauteed garlic mushrooms, and onion rings. Each dish was lovely (could do without the onion rings) and don't even get me started on the steak-- literally melts in your mouth! For dessert we had chocolate lava and creme brulee--also bomb. We were also offered a sambuca on the house, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Service, also 10/5. The waiters were amazing and very patient. I came with my family of 6 (a teenager, a first grader, and 2 toddlers) who constantly dropped their utensils and cups, but the waiters patiently gave us new ones each time. Saw that some of the negative reviews were based on service and things not named steak on the menu. I enjoyed the porterhouse here so much that I cannot give anything below a 5 star, and when I went the service was outstanding. However we were one of the few seated at the time. I don't know about other dishes, but the appetizer special we ordered and porterhouse steaks were OUTSTANDING, best steak I've had to date. I would recommend ordering the steak cooked one step below your typical preference as they put the steak on a hot plate and it actually cooks on there. Dinner with GF Steakgasm...oh ma gahd We ordered their signature Porterhouse for 2 medium rare along with the creamed spinash. The meat was so succulent and juicy. I was literally licking off the juice off my plate. The table next to us had A1 sauce and I actually cringed. The creamed spinach was just ok. The price is extremely affordable for high quality steak (I believe it was $76 for 2). Sides were only $6. Top that off with a nice glass of red and you have a perfect meal. The restaurant is actually a house, with lots of windows and a front patio area for dining. It's one of the better steaks I've had the luxury of enjoying... We've been here many times and it's always consistently very good. They have Valet parking, nice fireplace, very friendly owner and it's a small but elegant little place. Full bar along with a nice selection of reasonably priced wines. This time we went with the Steak for 3 which is enough for 4. They serve it Luger's style which are hot plates with a little butter in them. You cook the steak a little more on your plate so the steak comes a little rarer then you order it. If you don't like the hot plate then order Filet or RibEye.Both are excellent. Dry aged beef is the only way to go. Buttery, flavorful and cooked perfectly. We also ordered Caesar Salad, Endive salad, Hash Browns, Creamed Spinach and Steam Asparagus. The Caesar is a real dressing they make at the restaurant. Fresh and favorable romaine. Hash Browns are well seasoned and crispy. Creamed Spinach is spot on. Not too much cream and well seasoned. Endive was also quite good, fresh and just the right amount of dressing. Service is attentive and friendly not intrusive. We aren't big on desserts so I can't give you any insight. They do look good though. Prices are less than Manhattan so you get very good value for your dollar. I'd suggest a reservation on a Friday or Saturday night since it is small and they do fill up. I went to Cliffs Steakhouse for the first time this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. There was a nice fire going in the fireplace and the lights were dimmed appropriately for dinner. The waiter was nice and our food came out fast and cooked well. Tasted good as well! Must also add that the food was priced appropriately for a fine dining experience. A gentleman who I presume to be the owner or manager came to our table several times to welcome us and to check on us throughout our time there; he even walked us to the door on our way out. Very nice establishment. Even the gentleman who took my reservation was pleasant to speak with! Will return and would definitely recommend. Came here for a nice valentine's day dinner & I think we're going to have to redo it somewhere else. The food was not bad, the portions are on the smaller side so we were still kind of hungry. We decided to get a dessert since we had space. The waiter did not come to our table after collecting our dinner plates for 40 minutes. We were sitting at the table with empty wine glasses and no service. Eventually I called one of the waiters over and just asked for the check. To reward my gf for goin all out for me on my birthday weekend, i took a chance of taking her here after work and it was well worth it!! This place gets zero rating!!! Being a Black African American female. I feel the service was very bias. We was seated at our table. It took 15 min for the server to come over. We were trying to order drinks. I ask for a Henney Sidecar the waiter come back 10 min later and ask how to make it smh. I said never mind. They bring out the appetizers and the lump crab looked like fruity pebbles. The crab cake was a fried hockey puck in old oil . My friend tasted and said it tasted bad . They took it back and the manager says sorry it was a expired can they popped open and it is no good. So your fresh lump crab comes out of a can. OK anddd you told us the can was expired WOW. That was taken off the bill. Next the condiment holder was dirty on the bottom. Received attitude when ask to take it back. Next our orders come ask for medium well rack of lamb. My friend and I both received well done char broiled. While waiting to tell the waiter the issue. Took them 20 min to check on the table and they didn't come on there own when someone was finally close enough we called them over . They took our lamb back after I showed him it was well done . And he then went and check out ticket took them back to the kitchen and I never heard nothing about did I want them back or replacement. So the waiter comes back and ask my guest was they done wanted to take there plates but wait what happened to our food. Are they bringing us another plate or what?! Needless to say me and my friend never ate. They took off the lamb chops but wanted to charge for the side of mash that was cold and watery and watery cream spinach. How could I eat with no entree. The waiter gets nasty so to avoid anything further we ask for the check and will dispute with the cc company. Never been treated so poorly. The last 2 weeks I have ate at Ruth Chris in Paramus and Capital Grille in Paramus and was treated like a Queen and there lump fresh crab meat was not out of a can and sever with warm butter and not dirty cocktail sauce In a dirty condiments cup. Last Saturday, 11/7/20 I had dinner at Cliffs Steakhouse with my daughter & a friend for the first time. We each ordered filet mignon as our main course. Following dinner we each went directly home. My friend and I each became very sick within 10 minutes of arriving home. It's Monday & my friend is still sick. Today I called & spoke with the manager to advise him. He argued it couldn't have happened at his restaurant but offered me a gift certificate & bottle of wine to return to the restaurant. I told him I wouldn't be returning after getting so sick. He refused to offer any kind of refund on the check I told him the person who prepared our food may not have washed their hands or there was Ecoli in the food. I then said the right remedy is to call the health department. At that point he hung up on me. The man behaved totally unprofessionally. This place is the shiz. I'm a veteran steak devourer and have destroyed many a dry (and wet) aged steak all over Manhattan and that place in Brooklyn, and I gotta say, Cliff's more than keeps up. I would never stray away from my beloved Luger-style porterhouse and as such have never really had a bad steak. However, my dining companions have made such impetuous gaffes and have paid the price. Stick to the porterhouse and you'll do excellente. A few other notes... the dining room and decor are great... it feels like being in a warm house, esp in the winter where they have the fireplace going. And I would like to point out few unpleasant things we thought that was needed to address. I requested the area to be semi-private, but that wasn't really semi-private, it was rather just few tables put together. And the servers didn't really have great attitude of serving, From smallest detail from pouring water but servers kept wasting water on the table to throwing spoons and forks to the table... never attending to us when our "hot dishes" got cold for porterhouse steaks. It was very poorly done, and it has angered my fiancé's family... as well as my family as well. This dinner was supposed to be perfect since it was engagement dinner for both of our families and you were given directions to accommodate accordingly, but actual service wasn't even close. We believe that if we were to pay certain amount of money to treat ourselves with great food I think great service should follow as well. I think you should know that better than anyone especially in food service business. With that said, the value of our dinner should've guaranteed satisfactory level of customer service which we never received. We are very upset with your poor customer service and wanted to let you know that it will be very unlikely that we will be back. Went to the Cliffs this past Tuesday for a business dinner, and it was definitely the best dining experience I've had in a long time. We started our meal with whole chilled lobster, shrimp cocktail and (I think) stone crab claws. The lobster was cooked perfectly and pre-separated so there was no mess. The shrimp were the biggest prawns I've ever seen, and the crab meat was pulled and served in a red cabbage bowl. Everything was excellent. For our pasta course, we were served rigatoni in a Bolognese-style sauce. I used two pieces of bread to make sure I got every drop of sauce. I ordered the special, a bone-in fillet. It must have been 14oz without the bone. Cooked perfectly rare, seared just right on the outside, and arrived sizzling on a plate of butter. The seasoning was perfect, and it was one of the most tender fillets I've ever tasted. We had great service, with the owner stopping by three times to check on us. The only reason I can't give Cliffs five stars is that the beer and wine by the glass selection was a bit lacking. Other than that, I can't complain. read more

I attended this place for a birthday party and the service and food was excellent. They have a good wine selection and offer steak dinners for multiple people at one price. I enjoyed my afternoon lunch here, I have been meaning to go here since i have gone next door ( cafe italiano) for quite sometime, this time i decided to go for lunch and was not disappointed, their lunch menu was satisfying, I believe it was $19.95 for a 3 course/ great portions, I started with vinaigrette salad then I had the sirloin steak which came out sizzling hot , accompanied with string beans, when I took my first bite i knew i was a fan and would come back!! great taste and it was seasoned just right, my friend had the salmon which also was great, it had a nice cream sauce , my friend absolutely enjoyed it. for dessert i had tiramisu and coffee yum!!. The manager did come by our table and greeted us which was very nice, in the end we were offered a complimentary drink,.........The wait staff were professional and very friendly...I am a fan and would definitely go back soon!! read more

I came here with my family for my mother's birthday hoping for an upscale yet lowkey dining experience. Let me first say that the restaurant is quite literally a renovated home, which I was not expecting. The service was lackluster, my family and I waited a ridiculous amount of time to order drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts; I'm talking 30+ mins between each item. Upon seating we received no menus, I had to ask the waiter to provide one. There was no cocktail menu, no hand towels in the restroom, I'm not even sure there was a designated bartender. There were several times throughout the night that I had to literally get up from my table to find a waiter to order more beverages/dessert or receive my check, meanwhile I'm watching my waiter sit and converse with another table. The bill was handwritten by the same waiter who sporadically checked in on us throughout the night, I couldn't make out most of the writing so I'm not even sure how accurate it was. After paying, they then added their own tip without informing me of such. As a hospitality worker I'm more than happy to tip but I've never seen an establishment add gratuity AFTER you've already made payment, it felt very dodgy. I'm not sure if this was a typical night for them but the service was so terrible it makes it impossible to review this place fondly, the only redeeming quality was the food and that's not by much. The appetizers were delicious, but the entrees and drinks could've been better, I don't usually write reviews but seeing that I spent almost $600 for such a poor experience is gutting, I truly hope they work on their service so no one else has to experience what my family and I went through here. read more

The place is very outdated and slightly confusing to enter. The plates seemed permanently stained which hindered my desire to eat off of them. The sautéed spinach was mediocre. Husband ordered medium rare cowboy steak, I ordered medium - both came out medium well to welll done. We were hungry so we didn't send them back but that's pretty unacceptable for a steak house to mess up so badly. The cut of the meat is thin and it comes out sizzling on a plate. How can they possibly serve it medium rare when it comes out STILL COOKING on your plate? Crab cake appetizers were disappointing, more bread filling than actual crab meat. Creamed spinach as a side was okay. We skipped dessert based on the rest of the meal. Service was adequate, they consistently filled up my water glass without having to ask.
