We tried the Tomahawk Ribeye and the Porterhouse. Definitely the Ribeye was better, tender, juicy. Porterhouse filet side was smaller than expected. Hot buttered plate wasn't really enough to make the steak Med-Rare throughout the course as it cool obviously; which left many parts rare. I'm sure if you ask for another, they would provide, although we didn't ask. The bread was good & warm. However, I was bit disappointed to get refrigerated butter rectangles. Overall food was a 3.5. Aged flavor was very subtle and I wish it was more predominant. Menu did not indicate which aging method for 21 days. My taste buds tell me it was wet aged, also for the price it seemed more fit. Staff were definitely friendly. They do need to fix the lights - not sure whats going on but it kept getting dark-bright throughout dinner. First time visiting the Cliffs Steakhouse in Englewood Cliffs. Drove by the 9W soooooo many times, but did not imagine finding a decent steak within Bergen County. (It usually is Benjamin's, Keen, and Peter Luger in NYC). Quite a surprise with the service... and the T- Bone !!!!!! The service was on the spot .... much better than Peter Luger !!!! Individual plate was grilling hot, so that we could grill the meat more if wanted. So, we should start with Rare to slowly heat it to medium rare. Since it was a weekday, we were seated at the very end of the restaurant where it was quiet for the three of us to dine in a comfortable ambience. Love the fireplace! It adds just the right touch if you're lucky enough to get a table near the warmth. It's appears to be in a house and that adds to the comfy factor. Wait staff is very attentive and the food was definitely fresh. The chocolate lava cake came out about 10 minutes after I ordered it and just seemed to have warm chocolate poured over it. I'm used to having to order it at the beginning of the meal so it has time to cook. While it was moist and tasty, it didn't meet my expectations as the "lava" wasn't inside the middle of the cake. Food was great. The porterhouse for 2 was perfect for my group of 3 because one of us doesn't eat a lot of meat. It came medium rare as we ordered and was flavorful! We added oysters and sautéed mushrooms to share. The oysters were good, nothing special. The mushrooms were okay but didn't seem fresh and came drenched in sauce that made it too heavy of a dish. My only beef with this restaurant is that the service was appallingly bad. We came in and were quickly seated. It was JUST us and one other group at our 3PM reservation during our whole meal. No one else. A bunch of wait staff were loitering around. We waited for a while before a waiter finally asked if we wanted any drinks (at this point, we still had no menu so I'm guessing he just meant water). More time passes and we were finally given a menu. During this whole time, it felt like we were at a funeral. It was quiet and not a single waiter had a pleasant expression in greeting. We decided our orders pretty quickly since the menu was small. The waiters gave us the absolute MINIMAL effort for service. I know this for a fact because they literally couldn't even spare time to give their specials for the day. We had to ASK for it and there was a crap ton of specials that we wouldn't have known about had we not ask. When the bread came, my husband requested for the bread to be warmed up. The waiter came back with it toasted, charred, and hard as a rock. The olive oil was cheap, and the balsamic vinegar tasted like soup dumpling ginger soy sauce (I wish I was joking). Nothing against soy sauce but we were hoping for it to taste like balsamic vinegar... When the sizzling plates came, only two plates sizzled. This is a major highlight for their restaurant's dining experience so you'd think the waiter would consider getting a new hot plate for the sizzle, but no, that was not the case. We had to ask for it. We also had to ask for more water. And for more sizzling plates to cook the rest of the steak. AND for the steak sauce, which was just A1 sauce. Overall, we would not visit again. My friend who was with us and had been the one to recommend the place said she'd give it a 3/10 stars compared to last time she went with a date. Maybe the evening staff is better, or maybe it was because we were stereotyped for being Asian and for potentially tipping poorly, I don't know. Either way, it was a Saturday and we were the first guests - you'd think the staff would be more energized and ready! The decent food does not make up for how we were treated. Wow! What a great find. In from Chicago and randomly found this place - it's a great representation of a classic Steakhouse. Professional waiters, gracious GM, fantastic lunch. Wish I lived nearby so I could regularly go. For lunch, I had Halibut and broccolini, and was with colleagues before a business meeting - "no garlic please" and they obliged. If you're looking for quality steakhouse dining then this place is the spot. From the appetizers to the entrees to the porterhouse it met expectations and upped the bar. Not one item or dish underwhelmed, or felt cheap or old. Quality ingredients were used in all the dishes. My favorite was the flavoring on the steak, and how it came out. They have a very hot plate where they add some butter which will cook some of your steak once placed on your plate. There are a few restaurants that use this technique. But, the flavors this porterhouse had stood out. I've had steaks from a wide range of restaurants, but this place seemed to use the right spices and grilling method. It was crusty on the outside, and juicy on the inside. Very very tasty. The staff here are super friendly, courteous, and very accommodating. All ways around when you need them, and out of site when you don't. This restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining. Had dinner here last night for the first time with a couple of friends, and it did not disappoint! Everyone ordered filet mignon and each steak was perfectly cooked and came out sizzling. Butter garlic sauce on the steaks was amazing. While we were eating, our waiter brought out a complimentary plate of pasta for the table which was fantastic. Rigatoni Bolognese which had the most tender, delicious meat and an amazing sauce over pasta that was cooked perfectly al dente. After dinner and dessert, the waiter brought out a bottle of complimentary Limoncello for the table which we all enjoyed. Our waiter's name was Peter and he provided excellent, attentive service throughout the entire evening. The owner also visited our table a number of times during dinner to make sure that we were all enjoying ourselves-which we were! We finally decided to have a nice steak dinner after being catered with take outs since March. This place did not disappoint. Beyond what we expected even. The grilled Octopus appetizer was cooked well and a good portion to share for 2. My husband had the Tbone steak whick comes with a hotplate with brown butter ( yum) and I had the special of the day, Halibut with shrimp . Both food came out perfectly presented and seasoned. The warmth of the owner who greeted us with a genuine smile and seated us at a very nice table was not shared or reflected by the staff. My wife asked what was popular, and the waiter replied they had steak ,pasta, and vegetable dishes to choose from, ignoring the whole point of asking. Literally nothing is included with your steak, they will place a plate in front of you with a piece of meat sitting there and a warning not to touch it because it is too hot. Everything is a lá carte. Despite visually appearing like someone else's leftover, the filet was tender and delicious. Medium rare is closer to rare but this is a steakhouse. A glass of Cabernet was full bodied and paired well. The side of mashed potatoes was perfect, homemade and buttery, not too much salt, or too little. The salmon was a bit overdone, but few restaurants get it right. It was lightly but nicely seasoned and very good. At about 9pm someone remembered to turn the music on. It came on loud but they quickly brought it to an appropriate level. I just wish they had been playing music from the start because it added something. This place is unique on its own. If you like steak, it's a must try at least once. My usual order is porter house which gets served in HOT porcelain plate. It's seared hot so if you want your meat rare or close to rare, must give them heads up so that it doesn't over cook on the table. Service is okay, nothing special but not bad. The side dishes, including like 8-10 pieces of thin asparagus, small. The service was awkward. I think they meant well but the jokes were awkward and just simply not a smooth experience. The food was amazing and the only reason why I've gone down to 3 stars is due to the fact that an appetizer of just 3 scallops cost 42$ which was the most expensive item on my bill. Sirloin steak came out with awesome grill marks, basted with butter and the exact desired temperature. The accompanying broccoli was also full of butter and fork tender. This was the first time we (at work) ordered from here for lunch. Ordered the crabmeat cocktail - which was delicious. And two of us ordered lobster ravioli. We both agreed the sauce should have been a creamier sauce - lobster ravioli tastes different in a tomato basil sauce. But for $15 or so dollars (my bill was over what I thought based on internet menu) we got 4, FOUR, ravioli. That was what we found ridiculous. That's like $4 + a ravioli. Let me start off by saying I gave this place the benefit of the doubt I found it on Instagram during the pandemic I went there for my birthday December 29, 2020 I brought around 20 to 22 guest to celebrate my party so I brought this establishment quite a bit of money that night which all of my guests was completely unsatisfied with their meals and their experience those who were drinking and those who were sober same negative experience but I honestly enjoyed my steak that night the rest of the meal was terrible but returned two additional times in the food was subpar but today July 22, 2021 return for my brothers birthday me and him went there but because I have prior knowledge that everything else on the menu was not good I ordered what I like the first time that I went there the T-bone steaks they tasted like they were old The meat was so sour I was completely disgusted and unsatisfied we didn't even get through the meal as soon as the Meal came out we packed up and left when I got the bill they charge me an additional $48 with just the menu prices before tax my Meal came up to $102 I confronted the waiter about the discrepancy which he told me you ordered the bar I did not order the bar I didn't order any drinks at all we have water with lemon and one pineapple juice and might I add they didn't even bring out the lemon just plain tapwater I watch them filled it from the sink it wasn't even purified water Point being and bottom line I think this place is racist not a direct Racism where its in your face it's more on the lines of the energy they provide more of how they treat their black patriots the quality of service and the quality of food I wouldn't suggest any black diners to this establishment or any allies.
