Food is always good here but since when did y'all get sheisty on the sauce, barely any when we ordered last night .

The original Claws in Garden Grove burnt down, and is currently being rebuilt. This location is in a busy shopping center in the same area as Coco's, 85° bakery, Gen, and where other Asian restaurants are located. Parking can be a pain, so you either have to arrive early or be patient, or walk it from the neighboring parking lot. I met my friend Roger here for dinner on a Wednesday night, and I had to circle for parking at 6:30 PM. I did end up finding a spot in an adjacent lot near a Korean barbecue place and sports bar. Like all the other seafood in a bag place, this place offers your typical seafood from shrimp, peeled and unpeeled, clams, crawfish, and crab legs. We decided to split the 3 pound seafood combo which came with two appetizers. For the appetizers we chose the wings and the garlic fries. My friend Roger did not care for either appetizer, and I found the be just OK as well. The garlic fries or not garlicky at all, and I was shocked they provided us with catsup to go with the fries. As we were ordering, we were told they did not have any live crawfish, so we decided to try just 1 pound of the frozen mud bugs, and 2 pounds of shrimp. For one of the shrimp, we went with just the medium lemon pepper, and the remaining 2 pounds we went with their cannonball, which is a mixture of all of their sauces. We went with the medium spicy level, which was NOT spicy at all (compared to Kickn Crab or Boilng Crab). This place is definitely cheaper than Kickin or Boiling. That 3 pound combo dinner for two with an added corn and one soda came to $53 before tip. Here's one thing that pissed me off: Apparently they charged us $.50 for SPLITTING the bag of seafood?? I guess you have to agree that the entire order is one flavor? How petty is that? The place is very clean, and I do like that they have external sinks outside the bathroom. The staff was there quickly when we needed something, and the food did not take very long. I don't think it's a solid 4 Star but maybe 3 1/2 star. They have other items on the menu besides seafood in the bag, I didn't really check it out as my main purpose was going for the shrimp and crawfish. Frozen crawfish was just OK, a little rubbery, and definitely tiny. It's not the best substitute for the real live ones. read more

Another creole/cajun seafood boil restaurant to add for the books. I've been to so many that I've lost count. The routine is the same with not much differentiation...seafood cooked in delicious seasonings all piled in one bag. The only thing that differs from one seafood boil restaurant to another are the selections and its with the selections that Claws shines. All comes equipped with menu items such as Cajun fries, wings, gumbo, clams, oysters, mussels, shrimp, crab, and fish...but steaks, sea snails and frog legs? Mmm mmm! There were also ribs and a variety of rice and pasta dishes. Lots to choose from and definitely a reason to come with a complete empty stomach on my next visit. Outside of the usual order of shrimp, clams and mussels I ordered coconut sea snails to have as an appetizer. The snails comes in a small bowl however the bowl is fully loaded with sea snails in a coconut curry. The flavor of the curry and snails were delicious. Would have been even better had I ordered a side of white rice to pour them on but didn't want to stuff my self before the rest of the food arrived. For the other items me and a friend ordered our separate bags of shrimp, clams and mussels (Cannonball-Spicy) with a side of Cajun fries and fried okra to share. I could taste a bit more lemon with the cannonball seasonings then most places which I liked. Normally I'd squeeze lemon over my seafood so that spared me from doing so. I like that the fried okra has a normal bread crust rather than cornmeal crust. Nice and crunchy without the grittiness. Last, either it was my imagination of the Cajun fries had a sweetness to them. Not sure if it did or didn't but that's what y taste buds tasted and it was flavorful. Claws is a cool place to grab seafood. Briana was amazing! She served my birthday party group of 15 and did it with so much joy! We has an amazing time, Ate way too much, but we will definitely be back. Coming in with high expectations, I left with a full tummy but also feelings of disappointment. The service was great, but unfortunately the food was a miss. I had 1lb shrimp with the mild cannonball sauce and it just had too overpowering of a butter taste to it. When my parents tried to order the non-spicy cannonball shrimp (my moms not a fan of spicy), the waitress gave them fair warning that they wouldn't add the Cajun sauce in for non-spicy orders. However, they still went with it and lived to regret it because the sauce was pretty tasteless. They ended up just dipping all their shrimp into my sauce. Claws is the best restaurant of its kind in the Cerritos area. I come here quite often when I'm craving seafood. They have 3lb, 4lb, and 5lb meal deals that come with X pounds of seafood with a choice of 2 select appetizers. I typically share the 3lb deal with one or two people, which is $48. Only the cheaper appetizers are included in the 3lb deal (cajun/plain/sweet potato/garlic fries, chicken cajun rolls, fried okra, edamame, wings). It'd be cool if we could just choose one calamari instead of two smaller appetizers, but I guess they want you to upgrade to the pricier 4 and 5lb meals if you want the good stuff! I recommend: -Raw Oysters -- Pretty good quality and meaty, $10/half dozen, $17/dozen -Shrimp & Crawfish -- Cannonball medium is my go-to. If you want it the shrimp peeled, it's 50 cents more per lb! Less of a hassle and pretty worth the 50 cents, but you don't get the full experience without peeling something though IMO. Add corn and potatoes if you like them... they're amazing with the sauces!! -Fried Calamari -- The batter is just right, not too salty, and the portion is big. So I try I go to any crab in a bag place at least twice before reviewing because I'm always blown away the first time and disappointed the second. Well I'm excited to say I have gone twice and both times have been very consistent. Great flavor, not too spicy (very mild is actually very mild) I've been to places where mild still leaves my lips burning. I also like the fact that when giving them your number they can look up your past order to see what you had before. Sometimes when ordering at other places I forget what spice level I last had. Overall this place is a definitely winner. I was so mad the last time I went because I saved my shrimp juice and planned on throwing some cooked shrimp in it the next day for lunch but someone in the house threw it out, y'all know I was ready to fight. My husband and I have been coming here since they open. We are literally here every week or every 2 weeks. We love how fast and efficient they are. We love coming in on Sunday to watch the games. If they don't have it on they will pit it on for us. And in whatever TV we like, I love that customer service. Love the waiters and waitresses who remember us and our order. All they ask if we will be having the usual, Love it! Shows they actually value they're customers. I always recommend Claws to everyone! If I could give it 10 starts I would. Let me start out by saying the food was great, the service provided by mimi the hostess was trash she was extremely rude! I asked if she could possibly take a picture of us & she replied with "no im on break" in the rudest way which is completely fine be on break BUT you could have said sorry I can't right now or let me get someone to help you, she also shouldn't have been sitting at a table directly in the middle of the dining room next to my family & I. She then came back a few minutes later because I expressed that I was upset with her responds & decided to ask again rudely "do you have a problem" I said yes I do, but I'm currently with my family eating so please leave us be & she repeated herself & I said the same response again. I've been a returning FAITHFUL customer to claws for the past couple of years. Today 02/17/2022 I went to get 3 orders of fried shrimp w fries & fried okra. I asked for my shrimp to be fried CRISPY because sometimes they bring it out still LIGHT yellow & it's fried soft.. My order came out exactly that way & when I called & spoke to the manager she suggested "eat somewhere else" since they didn't come out to my liking. She stated they always come out "that way." I again tried to explain while rudely being interrupted for the 10th time that they were light yellow & soft.. not the golden brown when they're crispy. Long story short she advised I drive back 35mins to bring food back & wouldn't compensate me. On top of that, refused to give information on higher up so I could speak to them. Another female server claimed they couldn't remember, but as a group I and my friends remembered...:/ first experience here and the impression is I will never return. I'd recommend other options for Cajun. As we waited for the food we saw other tables around us be provided timely customer service. Though they had been seated after us. Highly disappointing if one of my friends hadn't come up to a server taking a to go order we probably wouldn't have been served at all. DELICIOUS!!! I am such a huge crawfish lover and had my fair share of eating out at various cajun seafood type of restaurants, and so far Claws has been one of the best out there! Why? The frozen crawfish still tastes fresh and the size is big! Definitely worth your money! I ordered the cannonball flavor which is a mix of all and it's sooooo rich and not overpowered with butter. No wait on a Sunday night, but there were tons of people waiting next door for Sake2me. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 pounds of shrimp, some corn, some potatoes, and fried okra and we were stuffed! The sauce we got was the one with everything like Boiling Crab's whole shabang, but it just wasn't the same. I still haven't tried a place with the same marinade as Boiling Crab's, but ain't nobody got time to wait an hour plus for a table there! The service was a bit slow considering they looked like they had a lot of servers. At least three were just chatting by the host stand most of the time. Shrimp (head on) - 3/5 - Shrimps were a good size, but the sauce was just lacking something. We got mild but it was more like something in between mild and medium to us. We ordered some corn and potatoes but we were missing two of the corn. Double check your order! Fried Okra - 5/5 - I am a fan of this! Used to love coming here for the King Crab Legs all the time. They would cost between $35-$45 a pound. It WAS worth it for the amount of crab I was getting. Didn't get a pound today and the price went up to $52 a pound. Got twoBoiling Crab little legs. Usually get 3 thick legs. Manager insisted it was a pound yeah with all of the juice in the bag maybe. Very disappointed with this Restaurant, I drove 45 minutes to come and have dinner with my family. To my Surprise the hours have not been updated and 8:37pm they won't take any customers. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and the answer was that they only have servers, so the answer is NO! we spent more time going back in forth spoke to Christina (the Supervisor) after a few minutes we have a Supervisor, she stated that I could take a picture of the door where it clearly states their hours changed! I asked her to update online that way customers don't come thinking they're going to have dinner. She said we don't have control of Google, yelp etc that pretty much the hours are put by someone else and she doesn't have access in making in changes, but if I take a picture I will know for next time their hours of operation. They don't allow you to get a half pound of shrimp, which is too much for me. This was my first time at Claws. I got a pound of shrimp and and Cajun fries with my friend. I got the cannon ball with medium spicy, it tasted pretty good. I enjoyed the food, but i think their service is a bit off lol. Our server maybe came once to check on us, I was shook. It was kind of awks lol, he also took some time to catch our order. The place was not even crowded lol, so I was confused to why he was not present. I still tipped at least 15% because I believe in workers rights and even though I thought he was tacky, he still deserves a living wage. I am so surprised to see the lower reviews for this restaurant because I really enjoyed this place and would highly pick this over BC or other surrounding seafood boil spots. I have been to their other location in Garden Grove, but I came here on a whim! I was actually craving sushi and wanted to try the place next door, however this was a much shorter wait on a Saturday and they were able to seat us within 15 minutes! So don't shy away from the long lines outside because it may not be for this restaurant... and even if it was, check out this place and give it a shot because it was so worth it! We ordered the live crawfish and shrimp for our seafood, and of course our corn, sausage, potatoes. Ughhh, I love the sauce here and I am thinking whatever concoction that Claws is boiling inside their kitchen, keep it a secret. And I can even help you with that secret... it's garlic! It's actual garlic chunks in their sauces and I love them for that! We also tried their cajun fries and their coconut sea snails. Both dishes were so good and we were very happy with the food. The reason why I'm giving it a 4 star and not a complete 5 is because something was in the water.... and it wasn't good. Every sip tasted really strange and weird and left a really ugly aftertaste in my mouth. So I would recommend them to change their filter because we needed water but it was pretty gross to sip on. Captain Claw says "Let the Head Suckin Begin!" That's their motto. Saw plenty of folks doing that to the crawfish and shrimps. Don't blame them cause the sauces they smother their seafood in are finger lickin delicious!! Honestly did not know what to expect when my sis n'law took us to Claws. Found out that they are similar to Boiling Crab. I think Claws menu is more diverse though. They serve everything from Cajun seafood to steak to pasta to salads and plenty of stuff in between. Pretty good food that we ate at Claws. Surprisingly, she did not order any crab legs with the 4 lb Meal deal for the group. Would have been nice to try. She got us all Shrimps to share. Have to admit that those shrimps mixed with the mild garlic butter sauce was head suckin scrumptious! Rest of the meal was good too. Chicken wings were tasty. Fried Okra was also good. Sweet Potato fries were on point. In addition to the meal deal, we shared an order of Chowder Fries and Loaded Garlic Asada Fries. My niece loved the Chowder Fries. I thoroughly enjoyed the Loaded Garlic Asada Fries! Order them! Claws is a good place to satisfy your shrimp cravings as long as you don't mind getting a bit messy. So what are you waiting for? Servers were very friendly from the moment we sat down. They handed us menus, one with family combos, which were priced pretty high for just two people. Shrimp being the primary choice for the seafood in a bag, we opted to try the jambalaya and soft shell crab sandwich. I was asked if I wanted my jambalaya with rice or pasta. I chose rice. It comes with sausage, shrimp, and chicken. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The jambalaya itself, however, had way too much tomato paste. No wonder the server said she preferred the pasta. The meal comes with a side salad, which was just blah. The soft shell crab sandwich was big enough to share. It comes with a side. We chose sweet potatoe fries. TIP 1: The plastic bib helps. But I still recommend wearing a sleeveless top--the juices will splash onto your arms! TIP 2: If you love to squeeze lime on each bite like me, instead try squeezing lime juice into a tiny plastic cup to dunk your seafood in. Way easier. TIP 3: Don't waste the shrimp heads! They're packed with with a lot of meat (brains I think?) and flavor, so at least pack them to-go for someone else to eat and enjoy lol. Chicken wings and cajun fries were standard stuff. But what really blew us away were the chowder fries! Fries smothered in a chowder gravy sauce, topped with bacon bits and potato chunks. I would come back here just to have the chowder fries again.
