You don't have to bowl a 200 to fit in (I'm lucky to even bowl 100 lol) but you do need to come for a good time and bring your drinking shoes. We paid for 2 games upfront and had no issues adding a third later on. There are about 16 lanes or so and the bowling area has a cute vintage feel to it. Equipment maybe a little older as there were a few times when the pins were set up that 1 would accidentally get knocked over before we actually bowled a ball, but we didn't mind the extra help :) I do wish their bowling ball selection was a bit more organized and expansive. I was looking for lighter options and could not find any -- not all the balls had the weights labeled clearly so unsure if they didn't have any/were already taken/I overlooked them. The lightest ones I found were 10 lbs. We stayed and played some of their arcade games too which ranged from pinball to skeeball to foosball and more! Some machines take bills and some only take change but there is an ATM and change machine on site. There were also plenty of people there just to enjoy food/drinks or play pool. We walked since we live close by so did not have to worry about parking but only street parking around like a lot of areas of downtown.

Location is a little sketchy, and this is definitely a dive bar at its finest, but the real star of the show is the duck pin bowling located in the back. For those not familiar, it's a much shorter, elevated lane than regular bowling. Select from different weighted, softball size balls and roll it down the lane. It's much easier than regular bowling and scores tend to be high, so it's a nice ego boost and tons of fun! And instead of a machine re-racking the pins, there are teenagers that sit back there to set them up. Tips: Cash only for the bowling which is $5 dollars a person. Make sure to tip your pin setters! Its best to call in advance to reserve a lane, but walk ins welcome. There are four lanes and you can rent one or more for an hour and a half each. They bowl super late, and is an awesome spot to hang out with a group and play a few rounds! Come knock some pins down at this legendary spot!

We visited on a Tuesday and tickets were only $8! Not sure if that was just a special, but seems damn cheap compared to typical visits to a movie theatre. The seats were comfy as can be - couch style, recline all the way back, and are headed! We saw the F1 movie (which was fantastic), and the whole surround sound system here made it that much more enjoyable. If you're looking for something beyond popcorn, candy, and sodas, they do have a restaurant attached where you can get apps, entrees, and alcoholic drinks to-go (i.e. to take into the theatre with you). I'm sure many folks in the area, like myself, are used to the Marcus Theatres where you can have food delivered to your seat, but just a heads up that isn't the case here. Seemed a bit understaffed overall, as lines were long and service was pretty darn slow, but everything we purchased hit the spot. I mean who doesn't love buttery popcorn at the cinema!?

An icon in Milwaukee, and it took us many years to make it here…read more We have a current date night tradition to break us out of our normal rut by making our way through the alphabet by location each month, and we're on our second round of the alphabet, which led us to H. There are not a lot of H places on our list, and Holler House is legendary, so we figured we needed to hit it up now since it takes us about two years to get through the alphabet! We made reservations for the lanes in advance online, the owners greeted us when we arrived, shared some great history of the place and gave us some tips for ordering pizza from nearby Ned's (which we also had never tried) since we hadn't had dinner yet, and we had two hours of lane time. We learned that the back bar is the same as Wolski's, and once I heard that I recognized the stained glass motif flanking the ends of the bar. The two lanes are down a flight of carpeted stairs and there are four seats down there as well as holders on the wall for your drinks and a teeny women's room tucked off one of the lanes. Scoring is done by paper the old fashioned way unless you want to use an app. We had some friends who were willing to tag along to watch us and or/bowl some really low scores, and we had a good time. Max was our pinsetter and did a stellar job setting the pins back up and sending our balls back our way. In the bowling alley, you can play Touch Tunes, but we ended up forgoing the music and just enjoying the games and camaraderie. While we were bowling, the upstairs was transformed into a cribbage tournament space, and the place was full with players, but not overly loud despite the crowd. I noticed they had a selection of wines (and it wasn't the single serve Sutter Home/Yellow Tail), but expecting more of a dive bar selection I had already gone with vodka tonics, which were tasty at $5. Cathy made sure we were enjoying ourselves, and the owners seem to have themselves a great neighborhood place where they are carrying on the family history. If you haven't been and have thought about going, go. Do it.

I love this little neighborhood bowling alley!…read more Located right on Vilet in the heart of Washington Heights, Highland Lanes is a glimpse into the past and a whole lotta fun in the present all wrapped up in one. A small, slightly dive-y neighborhood bowling alley, Highland Lanes has 9 lanes, a bar ample enough to gather 'round post-bowling (and to keep those pitchers flowing during bowling), and a staff that's as friendly as one might expect from a neighborhood alley (which is to say a gruff brand of friendly that is entirely appropriate and even endearing). Given the size of the alley, their selection of bowling balls to borrow during open bowling isn't stellar, but we've always been able to find a bowling ball that does the trick (rolls straight and knocks down pins). One important note: Open bowling times are extremely limited. We actually joined a league so that we could bowl every other Saturday evening and so happy we did! Get to it!
