This is the first self-serve bubble tea shop I've ever been to. It's nice that you really can put how much ever you want of whatever toppings, and the price is the same. I forget the pricing, but something like $6 for a small (16 oz), $6.50 for a Med (24 oz) and Large $7 or $7.50 for a large (32 oz?). Just guestimates, but, overall, reasonable for what you get. A good variety of milk teas, regular teas, and even smoothie choices. I'm basic, I don't get anything too sweet or fancy, so it was the house milk tea for me. But, they offer you little sample cups to try out the flavors before you commit. I enjoyed the 302 milk tea, the guava green tea, and the lychee smoothies best. But, of course, you can't customize sugar level on these, since they're pre-made, from the fountain. The meal deal is very reasonable ($17). Pick one item from list A (protein), and one from list B (a carb dish). Great for feeding 3 adults and 4 kids. We had the Teriyaki chicken, popcorn chicken (2), fried pork chop, and then the spicy udon soup, curried pineapple fried rice, and also the spicy basil fried rice. Also, a side of Calamari (side appetizer, not a part of the meal deal). Everything was good, but I probably wouldn't order the basil fried rice (liked the pineapple fried rice better) or the udon soup (hard to share, and not anything to write home about) again. The food also came out pretty fast; I was surprised. The pork chop was surprisingly moist and tender on the inside, crispy on the outside. I think I liked this most! Boba was a good enough texture, too. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely not terrible. I'd want to go here again, so much bang for your buck! I have been coming here for a few years and I've never had an issue until now. The cashier was friendly, no issues with her. I ordered a combo (cumin chicken and fried rice) and I noticed the cooks were not wearing gloves while making the food. At first I didn't think anything of it but when I saw a second cook eating next to the stove/grill, I didn't feel comfortable getting my food from there. I still watched the rest of the process, the guy who was eating, set his food aside, DID NOT wash his hands and began to make the cumin chicken. When he was putting the chicken in the container, he used his unwashed hands to push the chicken into the container then proceeded to grab the remaining pieces of chicken with his bare hands and placed them on top of the rest. They have an A & B combo for a pretty decent price. DRINKS They offer small, large and medium. The small size is your regular size boba cup that fits in your cup holder. I love the freedom to pick my own toppings. They also offered a lot of different toppings (no red bean though ). I tried their boba which wasn't too sweet. I also added the three puddings they had: milk, egg and taro. I topped it off with the taro red bean smoothie. Drink was delicious. FOOD I liked the broth for the hotpot soup. They give you a generous amount of popcorn chicken, four huge tofu bits, two shrimps and some fish balls cut up in halves. They also had bok choy and lettuce. Overall, not a bad price. I haven't gone to Class 302 in years! We decided to make a little detour on our way home and get a taste of nostalgia. First off, it's in a plaza with a bunch of stores to check out and explore with friends. It's next to other restaurants/dining places but it was the busiest shop out of all. The interior is like a classroom and it's pretty small though there are dining seats. The cashier section is also small, and there was only one lady doing everything at the front. It seemed really stressful, as she was taking order, refilling toppings, sealing lids, and picking up phone calls! Kudos to her for providing excellent service but I hope this establishment can provide more staff in the front to help out. A medium is $5.75 and is HUGE. At other places, $5.75 is only the drink! Here, you order the cup and can put whatever drinks or toppings you want. You can also ask for sample cups to try the teas as there are soooo many options. There are milk teas, fruit teas, and smoothies. My friend and I love fruity teas so we got the peach green tea which had the perfect balance of peachy goodness and the light taste of green tea. We also got toppings like lychee jelly, popping boba, and much more. The boba here was surprisingly soft and good despite it sitting in a pot for a while (unless they make it fresh to refill). So chewy and so soft. For our second drink, we got taro milk tea with egg pudding, taro pudding, and milk pudding. All the puddings were very jiggly, sweet, and tasted like their names. Lastly, we also got popcorn chicken. I didn't expect much as I haven't had popcorn chicken in so long and just wanted to get the chicken in the popcorn form and crunchy texture. I had soooo much fun personalizing my drink!! This was my first time trying out a self-serve boba place, I felt like a little kid super amazed at the smallest things haha just like their logo and store name, the decor resembles a classroom which imo is so darn cute! For the drinks, you'll have to pay at the counter first. They only offer two sizes (medium $5.75 & large $6.75). Then you can head to the toppings station (they have so many to choose from!). You can also mix the drinks if you're into that. After you're done, simply go back to the counter and they'll seal your drink for you (: I mixed their oolong (osmanthus) and jasmine milk tea and topped it with crystal boba and taro pudding. Today we went into class 302 at around 7:40pm. As soon as we walked in, we noticed the cashier lady in the back doing her makeup and taking her time. At this point, some teens walked in and asked the lady for sample cups. Meanwhile, the metal lid to the boba container wasn't closing correctly and my girlfriend was struggling a bit. The cashier lady reached over a bit aggressively and placed the metal lid down with some force, clearly annoyed, and went back to tending the teens. My gf and I both looked at each other and said jeeze, this lady could have done better in taking and placing the lid or saying something. P.S. she was already having a bad day and cried after this experience because this was all she wanted to feel better. Feeling in the mood for some Taiwanese food, I began searching for some good food and came across Class 302 on Yelp. Also receiving a recommendation to try this place, I wanted to see if it compares to other Taiwanese options. Coming into Class 302 at 8PM on a Thursday night, the first thing I noticed was the theming. Hearing the name at first, I just assumed it was a random name. But entering the small cafe, I realized that it the theming was meant to mimic a classroom! From the green chalkboards above the seating area, the hopscotch art on the floor, and the tables that clearly symbolized desks in an elementary school, the attention to detail caught my eye! After admiring the decor, I looked over the menu and ordered one of their combos with Popcorn Cumin Chicken and Pineapple Curry Fried Rice which cost $15.50 before tax. I then received a buzzer from the cashier, waited roughly 7-10 minutes for my food, and then picked it up. **The combination meal set allows you to pick one item from their protein selection (Choice A) and a carbohydrate selection (Choice B). Though I selected Cumin Chicken and Pineapple Curry Fried Rice, there are plenty of other options such as Fried Pork Chop, Spicy Garlic Chicken, BBQ Chicken for protein; and Rice with Meat Sauce (滷肉飯), 302 Fried Rice, and Miso Udon for carbohydrates. Second note, they don't appear to do substitutions for their food as one of their cashiers mentioned that the food comes pre-portioned. If you have allergies, unfortunately you'll have to select from their premade selection.** Taking my food out of the bag, I was very impressed at the amount of food given! Though at first I thought the popcorn chicken was going to be in a small bag, it was given in a pretty large paper cup with about 25-30 large pieces of chicken. Though the name "popcorn" implies less quantity, it ended up lasting two whole meals. Similarly, the fried rice was filled up to the brim in a large bowl and lasted two full meals. From your typical fried rice ingredients like peas, eggs, and carrots to some items I did not expect like the large chunks of pineapple (about 8 or 9), raisins, and pork floss (肉鬆), there was a large variety inside. The ratio favored the peas and carrots the most, but no other item was "neglected" per se. In the Downey and surrounding areas, a single meal can easily be $14-15 at the majority of places. But because this combination lasted two, price to portion is very high in my book and easily is justified. Do note though that not every item on the menu is guaranteed to give similar portion sizes. If I had to describe the flavor of the two dishes, I'd say...very unique. But though some parts ended up being unconventional, they ended up working out in a way I never would have considered. Beginning with the Cumin Chicken, the coating was light crisp and very easy to eat. Unlike more sharper panko coatings, the texture wasn't aggressive on the mouth which let me focus on the meat. The coating tasted sweet, almost similar to subtle cinnamon, and the pepper seeds introduced a minor kick. Onto the fried rice, the rice had a sweet and savory curry flavor and was subtle! This allowed the medley of other ingredients to have prominence. Following the rice, the eggs felt emphasized and really brought out the best in the curry flavor. Next, the peas, carrots, and onions were how you'd imagine them: Sweet, soft, and tasting like a hint of soy sauce. The pork floss tasted great on the fried rice as well and added a fuzzy thickness to the texture of soft rice. It also tasted somewhat sweet, allowing it to be cohesive with the rest of the dish. All these were typical, but the pineapple wasn't. Because the pieces packed a lot of juice, they appealed to its acidity of the curry while tending to the sweetness of the carrots and peas. Combined with the moist, defined raisins, these two ingredients made a creative and special mix that bridged all the flavors of the dish together. Though it might not sound good on paper, keep an open mind! It tastes better than you think. Class 302 strikes many as being a place to get a good boba. But I argue that it is easily a great spot to pick up a quick meal with some friends and family. The environment is one everyone can relate to and isn't all that distracting. The food was given in large enough quantity to satisfy any appetite, all the while possessing a unique taste. The staff were also particularly nice throughout. If I had to give any advice though, the one thing I would say would be to balance the ratio of the rice to all other ingredients in the fried rice. Though having plenty of ingredients is never a bad thing, the fried rice turned into a salad after a awhile due to the dwindling amount of rice. All of the former said, this experience at Class 302 was a very positive one and warrants a high 5/5 stars! The boba was enjoyable here. My sister took me here to try it out and I really like how it is a self serve spot. Once you are doing putting all your toppings in you pick what tea or slush you want and you turn it in to the front desk and they seal it for you. The Thai tea has always been a favorite of mine and it was really good here. Only thing I forgot is to put ice in mine, don't forget it for yours. Our cashier was very friendly and quick with sealing the cups. I got lucky and it was dead for 10 minutes, I was able to snap a few photos and capture the ambiance.
